    Hello Rick:
    I want to thank you for this video. I just purchased the 67i but I am new to the GPS universe and especially the crazy Garmin GPS ecoSystem. I am a tech guy but as a newby to GPS I find myself completely lost with the terminology, apps, maps, buttons, synching, satellite subscription, and, especially, the poorly explained and unintuitive Garmin universe of desktop software applications, web pages, map options, and phone apps all of which are needed to use the device effectively!
    After watching your video I still have miles to go, but I now have a foundation for learning that has cut through the worst of my confusion. I feel comfortable about it now. So, really, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

      Don't feel bad. I've been using Garmin GPS hand helds since about 2000 and find the 67 a huge step backwards compared to earlier model which did not require searching the 'net and having additional apps etc and all that garbage. The convoluted and slow satellite imagery selection and downloads are a disaster.

      When it comes to 67i vs the 66i, I find the 67i is much faster and better. Are you referring to models proceeding the 66i?

    Thanks for your videos.
    About to pull the trigger and buy a 67i.
    I am now in my 70s, but still quite active. Do several canoe trips in Quetico/Canada and BWCA in U.S.A as well as 1-2 backpacking trips each year in Black Hills, Colorado/Wyoming.
    I have an ~9 year-old, DeLorme InReach SE that I have used on trips for years and still works for MapShare, messaging but, of course is cumbersome and has no on-screen navigation or other features. Time for an upgrade.
    My question: When you are out on a multi-day wilderness trip and have the 67i and your smart phone with you on the trip, do you ever use the Bluetooth connection to the phone to do navigation/see maps on the phone? Or is the navigation function/screen/UI on the 67i so good you don’t really need your smart phone to connect to the 67i?
    Or do you use the Bluetooth connection to the phone mostly for typing messages via the Garmin app as typing messages is so much easier that way? In short, if I am going to have both my phone and the 67i with me on a trip, how much will I use each and in what situations will I use the phone? (Most of the trips I take are out of cell phone coverage areas; I have no service).
    Asked another way: if I have a 67i, will it be worth lugging along my smart phone? Seems to me I would only use the phone for the ease of typing out messages.

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  7 месяцев назад +1

      First, you do have the Bluetooth connection that allows you to use both the device only, or you can use your phone. I like being able to use my phone because the screen is larger and its easier to type out a message, but on a multi-day trip, I don't want to rely on Bluetooth technology or the phones battery. The screen is large enough on the 67i to see everything well and it works great as a standalone device.
      If I was concerned about weight in my pack, I would have no problem leaving my phone behind, but I always carry my phone for photos plus making phone calls if I do get cell service.
      It's true, that it's much easier to use your phone to message. What I personally do is have my quick text messages set up so I can select them and don't have to type out a message. When I get to a place on the trail for lunch or am at my campsite, it's not a problem to spend a little more time typing out the message on the device, but usually I fire up my phone and message the easier way.
      I hope this helps. If I were climbing Mount Everest, I would never take my phone, but if my adventure and space in my pack is not an issue, then I'm definitely taking my phone with me.
      Let me know if you have any other questions or if I answered your question well enough.

      The Montana 700i and 750i are meant to be used with off-road and city navigation. You can use the 67i for that but it's not the same and it's not as responsive as the Montana.

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  Месяц назад

      Several Garmin Technicians told me that the "Locate" button is more of an emergency type action that you would use if you wanted to know where the Garmin user was. This is what search and rescue teams can use to help locate the person. They said that waypoint cannot be deleted.
      This is something I want to challenge more and confirm they are correct or make sure they haven't changed anything that may now allow that waypoint to be deleted.

      If you select quit at the bottom of the device, it will move to MESSAGES, where you can then select NEW MESSAGE, then select SEND LOCATION. This is the fastest way to get to messages but it is also on the Main Menu. I know of no other way to make this faster.

      Now you can go to the MENU and look for the WAYPOINT manager and your waypoints will be listed there.

      The 67i is my favorite satellite communicator for precisely this point. You can sync it, but you don't need to.
      The Mini 2 is slightly different in that you need to sync it to your smartphone to get most all the features that the 67i has to offer.
