    I mean, the moment Bethany told Tyra, "I really want y'all to focus on my talent and not my boobs," I knew she was going. You can't say anything negative to Tyra about how she judges the models, no matter how absolutely correct that advice is.

      Bethany did confirmed that in her interview with Oliver TwiXt, and she also mentioned Tyra was a bit mean to her during that session which they didn't show; that's why Bethany made that annoyed face at the end.

    Fun fact: jenascia(the girl who overslept) woke up before anyone else bc they had to shave their whole bodies. When she was done she had one hour left before everyone had to wake up, so she went back to sleep but she didn’t hear her alarm. 🤦🏻‍♀️ “I’ll sleep ## more mins.” is dangerous lol. Lastly, jenascia said she reconciled with April but they never showed that, plus when the girls were on the elevator ready to go, april said to go back up bc jenascia was missing BUT the production crew didn’t let her.

    The irony of everyone screaming at Camille and calling her aggressive while she's perfectly calm. Seriously props to her because I don't know if I could've remained that calm. It's obviously jealousy and hateful editing. Maybe she shouldn't have talked back to the designer but I don't think she was being aggressive at all. These narratives are as troubling as always.

    • @Original_Tenshi_Chan
      @Original_Tenshi_Chan 2 года назад +1

      @@dacrayzblaze1 Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. Years of conditioning have some people thinking the stereotype of "Angry black woman" is legit and every black woman. And it never ends well. I was watching a John Oliver special on Medical Bias (basically, medicine is made for straight, white, cis men. The basic knowledge of ALL medicine is based on THAT. For example, women were viewed as "men, but weaker and with pesky hormones", no lie. There was a study done in 2008 I believe, on the effects of environmental factors on Uterine Cancer.... All of the study participants were men. Just.. just ruminate on that one for a minute.)
      Anyhow, in this special, he was talking about how medical bias against women and minorities has led to many unnecessary deaths that could have easily been avoided if they just treated the patient like a normal human woman. One story in particular was a mid thirties, professional/business, black couple having their first kid. They weren't keen on giving her the necessary pain meds (because believe it or not, for a LONG time medical science believed that black people, especially black women, couldn't feel pain like their white contemporaries. Around the time of the Tuskegee Experiments, they were also experimenting on black women. Operating on them WITHOUT anesthesia. It's bad..) Anyhow, during the delivery, the mother kept saying something didn't feel right, she felt "Off". The nurses and doctors dismissed her claims, waived her off, and told her it's normal. She started panicking, but was afraid to demand they check her, for fear of them viewing her as "an aggressive black woman". Her husband was panicking too, pleading with the doctors to check her, but he too didn't advocate as hard as he could, because there was the threat of kicking "the aggressive black man out of the delivery room", and he wouldn't be able to help his wife at all, even in his limited capacity.
      In the end, she was bleeding internally, and because the staff ignored her and her husband, because they were too scared to be labeled Aggressive and thus written off further, she died during the delivery. It could have been prevented, it should have been prevented, but because of stupid stereotyping and systemic racism, that isn't even a one off case. America has some of the highest maternal mortality rates for a 1st world country. Black people regularly have to hold themselves back in order to avoid "scaring" fragile white people. Look at Central Park Karen. That guy was a consummate professional, calm through and through, yet Karen was screaming down the phone to the cops that he was threatening her, coming at her aggressively, and she "feared for her life". She KNEW that her claims could potentially get that man killed, and she didn't care. Most people sided with him, but I guarantee that if he rightfully told her to Fuck Off, that public opinion wouldn't be so clear cut.
      Obviously, no race, gender or sexuality is a monolith, but to pretend it isn't happening would be egregious.

I am so so glad that you were able to break free from it, identify triggers and are in a much healthier place mentally. Sadly EDs are on the rise and it's not until shows like this make some heavy modifications or are banned, the constant stream of TV diet adverts are banned/reduced/restricted to what they can and can't do/say, and crackdowns on sites like insta to stop promoting pro ED content and things like diets then cases of EDs won't stop rising. We need to have a shift in culture too because in society so much focus is put on size, there needs to be much more of a shift towards promoting body acceptance, good mental health practices and self love. There's been a trial school in England/Wales where they've actually put mental health professionals in schools full time and do classes regularly on mental health. It's still in it's early days but it has had some amazing results so far with the wellbeing, focus and mental health of its students. We need to provide support for young people when they're at their most vulnerable. It's even helping to improve attendance and increased the number of people passing their core GCSEs. I have had two weighing experiences in my life. When I was in P4 (I would have been seven or eight) the entire class was weighed to learn about grams, kg etc. All our weights were written on the board and guess who was the heaviest? Even now (I'm 23 now) I can see my name at the top of the board and how absolute garbage it made me feel. I was overweight when I was young but not when I was in P4. I was taller and heavier set in P4 but the weighing most definitely contributed to my putting on the weight later because I was made to feel that shit about it.
    Then in first year of High School (I was eleven) they did "health checks" that involved weighing once again. To give them some credit they weighed us privately. It was recommended that I go to what I jokingly call "fat camp" now but was actually a course on better eating and exercise. I was so humiliated, but I went and did the course with the group. The privacy in the weighing was pointless too because a boy in my class was sent there too so everyone in my class/year know I was there because he was much more popular and had more friends than me.
    These were all contributing factors to me having eating issues for the rest of my high school experience. I have a healthier relationship with food now. Not perfect, but much better, but nothing good comes from this type of thing, particularly at such a young age. I don't step on scales anymore. It puts me in a bad place.
    Absolutely teach a healthy relationship with food, exercise and mental health, but humiliation is not it. It never was going to be it. Weighing sucks, man.

    • @KingOfGaymes
      @KingOfGaymes 2 года назад +7

      Weighing in class makes no sense to me, to show everyone’s weight to the whole class is horrid. It’s as bad as showing your grade to the whole class because kids are viscous and will bully for things like that. It’s just common knowledge how mean kids are in school especially with physical aspects like weight. That should be private info.
      I’m sorry such things happened to you and hope you’re doing alright 💜

      And yeah, I was eleven! I live in Northern Ireland so I started Primary School when I was six and entered high school when I was eleven. I was one of the older kids too because I'm born in August. There's no middle school or anything it's just straight from primary school to high school.

    Wow! After watching your video I have to say some facts to prove your points, because you are so great at reading between the lines🤩
    1. That whole "Camille VS Yoanna" thing was pretty much made for the show. Jenascia stated that it was actually Yoanna who was pretty much hating on Camille.
    2. Bethany said that she knew she was going to be eliminated because she found out that everything is scripted. Bethany was pretty much in position of "blond girl with big boobs". She also said that during the conversation with Tyra she did not give her any advices. When it comes to the picture they chose for her, She also said that she complained about the fact that there were better pictures (that part did not make it on official episode).
    3. Shandi said that Tyra pretty much played on her insecurities the whole show to make her (Shandi) as the kind of shy girl who came from "ugly" to chic. Shandi actually called Tyra As*hole 🤣
    aaaand there is much more tea....in next episodes 🙂

  • @Nocturnalux
    @Nocturnalux 2 года назад +14

    I think a lot of the bullying- that's the only way of describing it- comes from the producers themselves. Sure, the contestants are catty as it is, at least plenty of them are, but we should never forget that the confessionals are the result of prodding.
    They will ask, point-blank, what you think about this and that person and if you are too nice, they will encourage you to say something nasty.
    This reinforces prejudices they may already have had, and it might even create some new ones. Once the girls realize the production is not just cool with but actually wants them to be "cutthroat", they go along with it, enthusiastically enough.
    Left to their own devices, I'm sure plenty of these feuds would spring up but they'd be fewer of them and odds are, not this virulent.

    I didn't really see anything wrong about Camille's behaviour, maybe apart from how she responded to the fashion designer's critique of her walking. Yoanna, on the other hand, was a bit of a snake, and it might again be the editing, but her accusations of Camille appeared to be just her feeling threatened by another contestant. Yoanna did improve her walk pretty miraculously, though, from what Nigel described as clomping, to a half-decent model walk.
    My favourite this week was Mercedes. The way she styled those boots was absolutely stunning, she looked great on the runway, and managed to shine without any unnecessary drama.

    so in roughly 2014-2016 my mom and i watched a bunch of ANTM together. we’d sit and binge a whole season together over a weekend while my stepdad was out fishing. (props to my mom for never letting me fall into a “im too fat and short” thought process during those watches, btw.) i remember some things about this episode, in particular!
    1. all the talk about janacscia being 5’7 and too short is wild to me, someone who is is 5’7.5. it was a serious blow to my confidence in my early teen years to hear janice basically shittalk her for it. also the weights and measurements bit made me feel awful as a kid and still does now 🫠
    2. its interesting to me how many people are saying they originally sides with yoanna when they watched this ep back in the day. maybe it’s because we watched it a decade after airing, but both my mom and i thought she was pretty manipulative. i remember thinking she seemed like the people who bullied me in school - always talk about how they hate drama and negativity, only to be the biggest source of it. considering that was my thought when i was fourteen, i think the description of it being “high school” is extremely apt.
    3. my mom’s biggest gripe has always been exactly what you were talking about with the lack of teaching. they claim to be teaching them how to be models but there’s never actually any TEACHING happening. its just telling them what theyre doing wrong without explaining how to do better. it drives us both insane and it was very comforting to know someone else had that gripe too.
    4. let’s be honest. if shandi didnt have the super thin, “model” body, she would have gone home instead of bethany. its stupid - bethany cant help her chest size, and all tyra did was say “you have to pose differently” without EVER explaining what that meant. me and my giant bazongas slap her on behalf of all large breasted women everywhere.

Either, a) she was never going to or b) now that you've drawn attention to it she won't just to spite you. If Yoanna had just bit her tongue and kept it to herself Camille may have proven her right but now she's been vindicated regardless of her actual intentions. The best way to beat someone is to give them enough rope to hang themselves, don't try and force it because horrible people will reveal themselves very quickly.

    This episode seemed to be edited to make Camille look bad, but I think it was edited in a way to make Yoanna look bad. Twas a red herring all along! The editing is kind to no-one, who knows how much of their interactions we never got to see.

    I would LOVE to see Luxeria cover 'Manhunt' from 2004. It was, of course, one of the many competitive reality shows that took "inspiration" from 'America's Next Top Model.' Fun fact one of Janice Dickinson's top male models from her "modelling agency", John Stallings, was on that show as well.
    It's where that "Kevin, your dog just died" meme came from

    watching this 20 years later has given me a new perspective. I think I skipped a lot of what happened in each episode. I never thought Yohanna was this bad but wow the drama with these girls.

    Criticizing a person for being timid and telling them to "work on it" is kind of an oxymoron...

    The way this episode went has me really crossing my fingers that they're not going to play the "villain Camille" plot thread straight and instead show that Yoanna was the manipulator all along...but I really can't trust these shows to promote emotional complexity, intelligence, and nuance like that and I'm worried that Camille will be portrayed as genuinely bad.

    hahahaha, loving catwalking everywhere - I do too. Especially a long corridor, bridge, clear straight football, I'm always strutting pretending I'm on a runway. I also grew up watching ANTM, must have been implanted in our brains through the episodes!!

    Luxeria!!! So @11:33, I did some snooping and it turns out that Miss J earned their fame by coaching supermodel Naomi Campbell and model Kimora Lee Simmons. I found that very interesting!
    (also, at around @16:00, look at how all of their wardrobe changes!!! It was all edited in the strangest way, and definitely used Camille's laughs for a catty storyline!
