The engineering that goes into the construction of this amazes me. I would love to see a documentary showing from drawing board to final form.

Microsoft is doing a great job getting people excited about the Series X: powerful hardware, Xcloud, new studios etc...
A recent poll conducted by IGN indicates that 43% of gamers are excited for the PS5, while only 27% of gamers are excited about the XSX. It's not about power; it's about games, and Sony has more numerous, varied, and imaginative games. Also, while the PS5 may be a bit weaker, it'll still be powerful enough to render games in native 4K at 60 fps.

Don't forget game pass. If they give a month+ free to everyone who buys the series X, they'll be able to boast that they're bundling over 250 games with their console. That would include Halo Infinite.

Zach Davis tbh they’ve always been open about they’re hardware. Xbox one had one of the worst launches in Xbox history and for some reason they were completely open about it. They even had the balls to say that Xbox one would not operate without internet, on their announcing day?? The main reason the ps4 killed in sales was mainly due to its rocky launch
Ruben Ganeshaan I agree that was one of the reasons, but saying it was the main reason is probably wrong, especially since most consoles are sold years after release.
The big thing is Microsoft needs to offer better games.

I prefer XSX's design
Series X while being more powerful than the PS5, is more compact and easier to reassemble after a teardown. Also alot of the components are metal in Series X compared to the cheap plastics used in PS5.
This piece of hardware easily justifies the $500 price tag while PS5 looks like a ripoff. I've never owned an xbox but i'll give my money to microsoft for next gen.

I recently own a PS5, but I'm amazed how Microsoft combined the complex hardware, without compromising cooling inside a simple monolithic form that we're all familiar with. It's an ingenious design. They probably went: "Let's develop an SOC with several teraflops of power that current games are not yet optimized for this processing speed, stack each hardware component on top of another, make the heat sink larger, draw cool air from the bottom and exhaust heat on top making air convection easier for this machine." Perfection. I'm gonna get one of those beasts soon.
MS engineers outdid themselves. That's an amazingly looking and an amazingly built product.

@@LeePhan79 I still have my Xbox 360 from 2005 and it only red ringed once and it was not because of heat. All I had to do was unplug it and plug it back in and boom perfectly fine to this day though I gave it to my brother ever since I got a Gears of War 4 One S back in 2016 and then gave it to my other brother and then got the One X no issues 🤷♀️.
I've played on PlayStation consoles my whole life, but have always loved the XB controller. And now this. From an engineering standpoint, this is a revolution. Love how things are shaping up. Great job, Phil!

JP for me time will tell. My thing is, with Sony backward compatibility for the PS4 games. It’s hard to switch, kind of like moving from Apple to android phones. I don’t want to repurchase games. I’m pretty much committed at this point. Now switch is a different story, because of its exclusives.

The issue is they're basically saying fuck you to all the people who stuck with them as they were being dragged through the mud the entire 8th gen, for now Xbox has no hard hitting exclusives, and with all the recent studio acquisitions they're at least about 2-3 years away from publishing those exclusives that everyone is waiting for, and by that point in time, Microsoft won't support the xbox one x anymore and that's just sad.

I'm a Sony man through and through however hats off to Microsoft for this beast and all the consumer friendly features like backward compatibility, gamepass etc etc. Hopefully it inspires Sony to do the same. Now Xbox just needs to establish some solid new ips and not always rely on halo forza gears

As a PC gamer I appreciate Microsoft's decision to make all first and second party games available on PC alongside the next XBox. They've realized that this move benefits everyone and does not hurt console sales and indeed expands Microsoft's game services to both the Windows and XBox platforms.
I'm a Sony gamer as well, but I can't help but wanting Xbox to be a real challenger this generation. Competition is always good.
Xbox has:
Metroidvania - Ori
MMO - Sea of Thieves
RTS/TBS - Halo Wars, Gears Tactics
Open world racing - Horizon
Flight Simulator - Flight Sim 2020
Fighting - Killer Instinct
These genres are all exclusive to xbox. Sony never offered them.
The Initiative - Secret AAAA game.
The Coalition - New Gears, or Perfect Dark Reboot or something new.
343 industries - Halo Infinite.
Turn 10 Studios - Forza Motorsport 8.
Playground Games - Open World RPG, Next Gen Forza Horizon.
Inxile Entertainment - Next Gen RPG.
Obsidian Entertainment - Multiple secret projects in development.
Ninja Theory - Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Project Mara and third unannounced project.
Compulsion Games - New unannounced project.
Microsoft offers huge variety of exclusive projects for any taste.
One good thing about the controller is they kept the battery system, so you could use rechargeable batteries.

The Xbox Series X uses Direct X ML.

It's a part of the Direct X Suite of programs for Xbox Series X & PC. development.
Plus, DLSS requires the Tensor Cores in NVIDIA's Turing architecture. Xbox Series X is using AMD RDNA 2.

I personally LOVE the new controller! The triggers and especially the bumpers look SO MUCH BETTER! I also appreciate having a matte finish over the whole thing! All in all, I can’t wait for this system and the controller that comes with it to come out!!!
StinkyNacho I think the lb & rb bumpers could definitely do what Sony’s dual shock has, there controller is so durable, I also hate how common drift stick is on our controllers, I do like how they kept the design similar because it’s the ideal form factor hence why Sony did a similar design, it’s rated best by the General public because it fits in most people’s hands, stadia and another company went with a similar design, I just hate our rb & lb because they break so often, I literally went through like 5 or 6 controllers this current gen.

Really cool piece of tech in a small package. I know peoples first reaction is probably “wow that console is huge!”, but you really have to consider the power going into that thing.

Well said. There is a reason why Sony hasn't shown the PS5 design and that's because they are struggling with the heat factor and its a less powerful console than the XBSx.
I think Sony were aiming to keep the design as close possible to the the PS4 Pro and were caught off guard by MS when reveal the tower shape back in December.

An important point to report, if they don't add a dust filter at the bottom of the console on the air inlet, this console is going to be a dust trap, which will lead to overheating and frequent crashes after a few months of use, until complete failure. So Microsoft please add a removable dust filter, a simple slit with a sliding filter inside would be great, you made a fabulous new architecture, but you forget this very important point ^^
Yeah, I said the same too. But then again you can easily open up the xsx side panel and get 100% access to the heat sink for some compressed air cleaning. The ps5 has easily accessible dust ports but vacuuming doesn't create enough air speed to dislodge the very fine dust particles. Highly pressurized air is the only way to deep clean heatsink fins. I'm talking like from an air compressor. Hopefully a simple removal of the 120mm fan and spraying air in there, and inside the dust ports will suffice. If that works, the ps5 will actually be easiest to clean.
@@q-_-p.d-_-b I find it hard to understand why the engineers at Microsoft did not think of a filter system that is simply removed without screws without anything, just with a system of clips or magnets. Make a whole new architecture and not think of dust when you know that it can create overheating and breakdowns.
Well, I guess they did everything to make this console idiot proof, including not letting us even remove the stand. I love the series X but man the ps5 looks like it's specifically made for people who want to clean their console.

@@JP-wm1cc They weren't cardboard people and if you listened to the beginning of the video the talk was for the developers of video games at the Game Developers Conference that was postponed to a later date. Also MICROSOFT always does this for Digital Foundry because they know that people eat it up. Besides there are more important things to talk about than some console that won't have first party exclusives for the first 2 years.

I saw it live, it was super interesting if you are in technology but comment section was raging "boring", "wtf is this show the console" etc. Were at the very least the 50% of the comments although they specifically said at the start of the presentation that it is directed to developers, they will not show the console and more info about it will be given at a later date. Never underestimate people's idiocy. Sony did and they started with the wrong foot for no reason at all. They actually did nothing wrong.

If I remember correctly Sony and Xbox sold their consoles on a slight loss before, Nintendo on the other hand always takes a profit from selling their consoles. I believe the lockhard version will be the rice competitive one.

@@LilacHeather mate i fully agree with this. I bought a ps4 in 2018. Played Nioh and loved it. Played God of War thought it was overated with the lack of enemy types and reskinned bosses. Horizon was ok and Spiderman was boring to me. I found all those exclusives were 20hr games that you play once and never play again. Xbox has the best racing game in Forza, the best platformer in Ori, best cover shooter in Gears and one of the best shooters in Halo. Not to mention the better multiplat games

The ps5 HAS to be a good deal cheaper than the Xbox, if they are equally priced, no one in their right mind would buy the inferior console.

Problem is 4K brings you nothing when the engine is adaptive and scales down other stuff just to maintain the 4k at around 60 fps and a shitty looking game will still look shitty in 4k (on PC and Console)

I really hope, they will focus on making hardware consumer and developer friendly. And focus more on gameplay & quality aspects of the games than just some raw "support" of RT... Which is a nice bonus feature, but nothing which define the titles for next generation... Adding some raytraced lightning and shadows on it's own won't make game good. Raytracing without a solid game idea is just a gimmick.

@David it's all the matter of engineering perspective. Some engineers would like to say that PS5 looks better, others would like to say that Xbox Series X looks better. But as a PlayStation fan, I have to say that both systems look amazing in their own way. Xbox's inside are amazing imo, but PS5 also looks decent. It is seriously a tie for me because both systems go for different approaches and thus they are designed to accommodate their respective approaches.

I was buying first time the new xbox. I was playing ps about 20 years. My main reason to consol change is not related to hardware superiority but sony s lack of customer support and greddyness in turkey. They closed deals page in psn about 10 days in these quarantine days..

I've went with Sony every previous console generation, and probably will for the next generation as well. But massive kudos to Microsoft for the transparency. Series X might also be the best looking console since the Dreamcast according to my eyes at least ^_^

Here is some food for thought:
R9 390, a GPU from 2013 has a memory bandwidth of 320 GB/s, GTX 1080 has a similar memory bandwith at 320 GB/s. (XBOX SERIES X's 1/3 memory is also operating at 326 GB/s). The XBOX 1X console and my R9 390 can run games at 4K bottlenecked at GPU, where as GTX 1080 can run games at upwards of 50-60 FPS at 4K depending on settings. The point is, the 1/3 GPU memory of SERIES X is sufficient to even do video game rendering at 4K resolutions.
Now let's compare PC's current top 4K ray tracing capable graphic cards:
- The 2080 ti, the highest performing consumer GPU has only 11 GB at 620 GB/s and compute power of 14 TFLOPS
- RTX 2080, comparable to XBOX SERIES X can do 4k with only 8 GB @ 448 GB/s and compute power of 11.1 TFLOPS
As you can see, XBOX SERIES X has an edge over RTX 2080 with 10 GB @ 560 GB/s and compute power of 12 TFLOPS.
This GPU is theoretically equivalent to what RTX 2080 SUPER should have been. Very capable with sufficient VRAM.
Side note: I am running Star Citizen, currently the world's biggest detailed universe simulator on first gen NVME drive which is slower than what XBOX SERIES X is offering. How many companies have access to vast amount of money and time Star Citizen dev have to develop games beyond the detailed and size of Star Citizen? XBOX SERIES X slower storage wont be an issue.
You can compare the TFlops of both 2080 but not the TFlops of the Series X with them (you can read about that online)

Many argue that the Series X heatsink is smaller than that of PS5, you have forgotten that it is a vapor chamber, it is different than a common heatsink with heat pipes like the one on PS5.

It looks like on paper the XSX is going to be the pack leader in terms of performance, I'm on the other hand very excited to see team blue first party developers use the bespoke SSD IO to change how games are designed. I wonder which platform will be the target and whom are upgrade/downgrade targets, we haven't seen anything on the cheap xbox yet(?) and price is also going to be a factor among the three machines. I'm not a fanboy of any console or device I'm just a psychologist who notices certain human behaviors in people who partake in the console war. It may seem like I am leaning one side, but I'm trying to drive a point home so please read carefully.
Playstation is the more popular device, they've just been around longer and the thing that's hypocritical I've noticed is how narratives shift based on what the most popular console has going for it. If it's more powerful no one is talking or caring about games it's all about power, then when the competition increases its power it's all about games and graphics don't matter anymore.
But when will both sides realize that you don't buy the console for its exclusive games, you buy the same console every year because you're trapped in their ecosystem? It's where your account is at, your game library, you're use to their UI and controllers, at this point it's just a preference regardless of which console may be better in objective ways you will not switch unless something *very drastic* happens.
The saying "winners write history" can also be said that the winners (the most popular brand) controls the narrative, unfairly I might add.
93% of sales are 3rd party games no one buys an Xbox or Playstation only or solely for exclusives, they buy consoles mainly for 3rd party games. If that's not true would you honestly buy either of these consoles if their were ZERO third party games? Doubtful.
So the narrative "why would I buy an Xbox, I could play all there games on PC" is untrue because if you want to buy a console you want a CONSOLE. You want a console experience so what PC has to offer is irrelevant, if that were the case both consoles would be irrelevant cause PC has ten fold the exclusives of both consoles plus emulators that can already play most of their exclusives and Nintendo's.
The saying "Xbox has no games" also gets old fast. Xbox has less exclusives but due to their backwards compat their console actually has more games to play than playstation so that saying is laughable, and I just facepalm at how biased people are to say something like that. Unless you want to keep a bunch of consoles laying around under your desk and switching between controllers just to play some games you love or are one of those people "ha why would I play old games on a new console" then go for it. But Xbox has more games and plenty of games, just because there not exclusive to that console doesn't mean anything and if you say it does you should be on PC.
Both consoles are good, just stick to whatever you like but don't be a dickhead to people over something so dumb. If you're curious about my devices it is: PS1, PS2, 360, PS4, Xbox One X. Those are my systems bought in order, if it seems I was biased cause I defended xbox it's because they get the most flack not because I'm trying to undermine Sony, I love them they're doing great things too but everything good they do gets noticed already so I don't need to preach it.

You won't have access to AMD Freesync but everything else will work fine. I believe AMD Freesync is reserved for Samsung QLED.
You can't deny that OLED looks best, the the burn in risk is too high for me. I'll be going QLED.
@Tronam VRR doesn't eliminate screen tearing just gives you lowest latency and doubles the TV frames. You still need Freesync for eliminating things like judder and screen tearing. OLED is best for high-end PC gaming. Not the new consoles.
With QLED I know the calibrators get this wrong sometimes. But with Xbox One X in ALLM on QLED you not only get the 120hz VRR and low latency but you get the full picture quality as well. Game mode is not even needed. However game mode does take picture quality away if you want Freesync on QLED. But with ALLM you don't need game mode.
