- Xbox Series X Teardown - A Repairability Perspective - That's right! I'm tearing down the new Xbox Series X to see how easy it is to take apart, how it compares with the Xbox One X, and how difficult it looks like it will be to make repairs on.

When do you plan to tear down the ps5?
Ps5 teardown
Liquid cooling or liquid metal mod?
You can do the durability test in Xbox series x and then fix whta you have broken ☺️
Can you replace the SSDs? Xbox has been a PITA about theirs disks in the past, curious if they have gotten better.
This was definitely the most comprehensive Series X teardown I've seen, and it's nice to get your opinion on weak points. Keep up the great content man!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

you know this guy loves reparing electronics the moment he says: "I haven't watched any tear down at all because I want this to be a new fresh experience for me". 😂
doesn't want spoilers xD
I wish I can get to that level
For sure nice to see someone passionate about there craft lol. MAY I TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR WARES
it's oddly satisfying to tear down electronics
You built different bro, every gen bar this one was easier to diy; at this point I’m even discouraged to even take it apart past the 35 screw mid 1f 7201….

Yes, Sony and Microsoft include a stand with the console.

That was said while I was eating, and I was just like dude...
Strip my Series X into pieces, this is my last resort!
No, it's not a Playstation. It's was more so notorious for roaches.
Let’s repair this cockroach infested XBox, 5 years later
As a Circuit board designer, I must say that the board layout of this thing is insane... 12:11 Those high-Speed traces would humble any engineer
Yeah I definitely don't want to know how many geniuses spent countless hours designing it

Xbox definitely has the better engineered consoles imo tbh 😄
Gotta say Microsoft did their homework this gen hardware wise
The first Xbox was a beast as far as build quality and reliability goes from what I remember. They've always made quality products except for the RROD ordeal, but I heard they took take care of all the customers having issues with those faulty 360s. I don't have any hands on experience with the series X, but I own a series S and it feels solid. The XBSS materials feel and look good imo. Definitely doesn't feel cheap.
Yeah except for the HDMI port. That thing fails all the time

Honestly, the Series X/S are the best designed systems that I've seen yet.
The fridge still has some place to put snacks inside.
You mean fridgebox
Yeah but the WiFi router aka PlayStation 5 still has no place and it’s bigger and even tho it’s bigger it still not better than the series x unbelievable ps5 is trash compared to series x
@@mortysmith7254 it’s so huge because of the heatsink bro, also shut up about console wars, those don’t exist anymore, stop saying one console is trash over the other, because no one cares.
@@mortysmith7254 Hey, what exclusives do you guys have for next gen right now.........oh wait. Also, all you guys did was make the console more powerful and added a share button when PS4 already had that, you guys are suddenly calling it next gen? No! Dualsense is next-gen, the Tempest Audio is next gen, PS5's SSD is next-gen, the PS5 is next gen. Xbox series x is probably one of the worst console launches I've ever seen.
@@Ghostyboydead yeah man you see the load time comparisons lately? Series x whooped PS5's ass
As close as I will be able to get to an Xbox Series X.
Thanks for the content thought, always fun to watch you!
This is probably my favorite consolé design ever, love how the mb/psu unit look like a engine block
That's cool the Master Chief's helmet is on the board
Tank you showing use. This is built like a break. No wasted space.
MS needs to get their naming convention fixed... I'm feeling dizzy of all the different xbox x's you showed us and talked about. 😅
Me too!
They should've just named it Xbox Two X lol
@@Bre0n indeed. Or something with even more X's in it's name ^^
I wonder why we can't just have xbox a b c or 1 2 3 😬
There are rumours that the next Xbox will be named xbox series one ;)
Need a campaign for people to shorten them consistently. SX and SS. (ok, SS isnt brilliant. But its been 80 years. Lets take it back!). Having to constantly say Xbox Series X is just annoying.
I love this man's haircut , simple yet clean and elegant , keep up the good work my man
I'm so happy that they finally used a different x-clamp, the older ones on Xbox 360 and One were a nightmare.
Is that what allowed red rings on 360
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME INSTEAD OF OPENING THE BACK AND ENDING THE VID THANK YOU
Been waiting for this video ever since you tested the durability of the ps4
Thank you for watching!
The xbox series x tear down is the best I've seen so far. PS. inside of it looks crisp and more neatly arranged than PS5 parts
Compared to Sony, Microsoft definitely splashed the cash this time.
really? I think Sony has overengineered the PS5 more, the cooling solution seems much better (bigger and with liquid metal). They have learned from their mistake with the PS4 which was very hot and loud.
@@pedrorezende4873 Going with liquid metal from the factory is NEVER a first choice. I think its because they were so in love with the shape, they had to overcome their limited amount of space/limited amount of heat sink allowed because of the shape. The chip that the Xbox and PS5 use are pretty similar, so honestly its more ideal to use a less expensive thermal paste - that is also less of a liability since its not conductive.
@@pedrorezende4873 pretty sure liquid metal has to be replaced frequently.
@@DefinitelyNotMyRealName where did you get this info from? I did some research and the only thing that I could find out is that people didnt see any temp difference after 2 years. Its something relative new so I would not make such claim since there isnt much data on testing that
I got a 12 year old Arctic silver 5 application still cooling as well as it ever has
Thanks for this video. Waiting for XBOX series S and PS5 teardown videos from you.
I’m looking forward to the ps5 teardown. You do a great job every time!👍
Love how you add little side note that are life savers !
Something tells me the man is being completely serious about the cockroaches.
as someone that had problems with Cockroaches in home in the past, i know what he meant with that
He's run into the little critters in some of his previous repair videos!
My sibling works in electronic repair and he's told me it's not uncommon to find dead roaches inside electronics, but sometimes you'll find a live nest which he said has happened once, emergency situation is an understatement
he is. roaches getting into ps4s was actually something that happened regularly enough to where plenty of repair shops could share their horror stories.
@@MrHandss God! can't belive how some people can live in such filth. yuck
I love that master chief symbol, such a nice touch!
The thing that stands out to me is its a very nicely designed bit of tech. Very compact and neat. Apart from that thermal paste on th main chip
I think your breakdown videos are better than any other I've seen. Thank you.
Hello, my name is Iraq Yaseen, I am from the country of Iraq. Do not be surprised that my name is similar to my country. I love your channel and I enjoy watching the videos you put on the channel. I hope you will continue publishing more and more videos. I wish you good luck and success.
Best teardown video I've seen of the Xbox Series X!
Thank you for doing it like this, letting us watch as you opened it for the first time. Although that being said, your previous inexperience with this new model didn't really show. Your long history of fixing consoles pretty much allowed you to make educated guesses for the whole process, apart from the second screw under the large sticker. That in itself was quite impressive, seeing how different the new Series X is compared to the One X.
Best teardown I've seen yet! Great job with every little specification and descriptions.
Been waiting for this vid!!
Haven't owned an xbox in over a decade, but had to watch this video. Thanks for all the teardowns.
7:40 looks more like a piece of something that you can find under your car hood than a game console
and work better than ps5
@@Waluigi-qp3vm why ? xbox work better than ps5 and heats up less
Very nice video again, we were all waiting for this one as well as the Ps5. I've seen the disassembly video from Sony but i think your video's are much better 👍
I was waiting for this video, you just make it look so easy hahaha. Love your work Steve!
Thank you so much for dropping this video no other RUclipsr has done a in depth tear down and that is really awesome of you to do and I've been wondering how could I get into repairing things as a side gig

Used your video to help remove the back panel, was vary helpful visually.
Thanks for the teardown, that thing is compact, but I like how most of it is modular for almost easy fix!
I hope it's easy to fix
Awesome! Mine just came in the mail yesterday. I’m loving it so far!!
The new gen has a really big fans :o
Thanks for the teardown video BTW
Huge fans. You're welcome!
Get my ps5 on Saturday of which I cannot wait for as am not a fan of Xbox but love the Xbox X compactability and easy to repair factor great vid
Your probably going to like these new consoles to fix in the future cause of how easy they are to disassemble
The series S is easy to disassemble. The X is definitely not the easiest.
Three years after this video went up and helping me still only teardown I’ve seen that mentions how to disconnect the front panel connector
Great that it looks like the bluray drives are the same other than the board, I still have a stack of new ones.
I think it might be the same.
drive from 1x have HW revision with 9 on end, Sx have drive with A on end? its means 10 in hex, so its same but a bit updated. request drive interchange test and is it still needed to update firmware? also request internal drive interchange. that would be a marvel if u can interchange ssd in seriesS to larger but not pcie4
@@madmatrac yeah I'm also curious if the internal ssd can be swapped to a larger one with no problems. Like metaljesusrocks has show games can take up space quick especially if youre having it download your whole collection of backwards compatible games too.
To be honest, I have never built a PC so I don't basically know anything about computer system components. But this is the second Xbox teardown video I am watching and it is starting to look easy, at least the first steps to where he says the wires are gonna be a problem. It doesn't look that hard to open these wires.
BUT I DIDN'T GET TO SEE THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF THERMAL PASTE!
But seriously, great teardown. I look forward to getting mine...supposedly on Dec 23rd.
Why is the delivery so late ?
@@mortis9023 I was finally able to get an order in on Tuesday after not being able to get an initial pre-order in. To be fair that it's only listed as "estimated delivery date", so it could arrive sooner, but if it doesn't then it's not the end of the world.

I'm amazed at the size of that 1TB ssd along with the fact that it's NVMe, oh how far we have come! Loved the video as always, I just hope the parts in this console that can be changed become available.
PCIE 4.0
Dang that is a beefy x-clamp! I broke my fair share of 360s trying to get those old style clamps off. Glad to see the design.
😂
I would love to watch you put it back together.
Everything looks so compact

Allways Great Tronic. I was looking forward to this teardown, thanks alot! Happy Gaming to all outthere!
Great that you can change so many things. I like the design.
It's a pretty cool design but some repairs will be a pain.
easy repair and cleaning. The Master Chief logo is a touch of love.
I think the SSD internally is a bit of a game changer when it comes to repair, and tinkering updaters. If that SSD dies it can be replaced rather than having to re-ball the memory chips placed on the board. One advantage it has over PS5 since the chips on the mainboard are not replaceable. I have a couple e-mails into my friends at Microsoft to see if they will make the SSD available as parts after the first couple years. In theory nothing is stopping you from putting a DRAM cached SSD when they miniaturize a bit as a replacement. It is a full PCIe 4.0 of Gen 4 lanes. It just uses the RDNA2 feature of shared system memory to cache SSD addresses. It is faster than a normal computer doing that because the GDDR6 is much faster than DDR in a computer. From teh build quality and the sandwich design you know they want it to last.
if only this were true:/
@@VeteranChild Whats not true? It is Gen 4 x 2 lanes. The memory on PS5 is a custom chip with compression built into the chips. So you can not buy off the shelf chips. MS did copy some protection on the SSD. However, that can be copied. Other than that they have Toshiba and WD SSD as internal storage a standard M2. MS is in the process of removing the hardware white list and encrypted partition.
@@thepoliticalstartrek Everything is true except the whole they want it to last thing. Cause mine has been riddled with problems :/ cpu overheating and now my ssd has died with no way for the average person to replace or repair it
the best one ive seen so far. thank you

@@Tronicsfix glad to hear, dreading seeing the PS5 repairability. (Soldered internal SSD OOF)
The Series X is still a marvel of engineering however such a beautiful console.
@@fiddlestyxVR There are common ITX builds that have 3x the power in 1/3rd the space, but I guess it's adequate for Microsoft.
@@fiddlestyxVR ssd's are very reliable, last way longer than hard drives, don't really think it will be an issue. It's like worrying that your phone's memory is soldered?
@@evertonjames123 I don't think you keep your phone 5-6 years like a console
Did anybody notice the pull tabs on all ribbon cables??? I feel like they are catered toward repairability, despite the locking mechanisms (probably these serve the purpose of not becoming loose).
