David Coverdale on vocals here of Whitesnake. Glen Hughes on bass. Glen was in a band called Trapeze. Did a bunch of solo stuff. Later joined Derick Sherinian, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham in Black Country Communion. What a lineup.
The companion piece to this is BURN which is structured similar to Highway Star and features one of the best organ solos in rock music; another song off the Stormbringer album with great keyboard effects and a catchy riff is YOU CAN'T DO IT RIGHT
Jay! So glad to see you upbeat. Richie Blackmore (guitarist) is a force and he frequently played using classical phrasing. He is said to be the predecessor to Yngwie Malmsteen who took playing classical progressions with a metal edge to new dimensions! Vocalist David Coverdale became a successful frontman and eventually with Whitesnake.
I love this song but this is the first time I've really listened to the studio version. I find that I am still more in love with the live version from "Live In Europe" (1976). It has the same line-up (Glenn Hughes is on fire, of course) but Stormbringer is definitely more HOT and firing on all cylinders! Plus, Richie dispensed with the Slide-guitar lead and just played it METAL. Also Jon Lord played it on the Hammond B-3, instead of the synthesizer. It's more AWESOME on the Live album!
Fireball & Black Knight are two Purple tracks I'm surprised people haven't reacted to. Let's not forget the live Burn performance in 74 where Hughes blows Coverdale out of the water.
Definitely must do the live in California video, with the rainbow in the background. It's my hubby's and I favourite. Glenn voice is superb. Love his outfit and look too
This is the line-up with David Coverdale on lead vox and Glenn Hughes on bass and backing vox. David Coverdale later went on to be the lead singer for Whitesnake, if you hadn't researched. So this is a different singer. Just starting the video, maybe you'll touch on this.
Have you listened to "Black Country Communion?" It's a collaboration of Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian on keys. They did some good songs.
@@fasteddie777666 Absolutely. I own most of his solo content, all his Deep Purple content, his Black Sabbath appearance on Seventh Star, all the content with him in Trapeze, most of the stuff he did whether with Pat Thrall or others, many of the side appearances, and I know BCC and the other projects as well. He is one of my favorite singers. BUT on THIS TRACK he just does backing vocals, thats what i meant. :) Cheers and best wishes!
You gotta do deep purple- keep on moving. My favorite deep purple song. Found this on covid vacation last year. It's a badass song. Spotify last year said. I listen to this song 75 times last year. The bass is so badass in keep on moving. It's definitely you're kinda song.
Grew up with this music... one of the reasons a number of people on RUclips say, "They don't make music like they used to." Such people either don't bother looking for good new music (it's out there) or they're too set in their ways... most likely both.

Jay, from right around the same time for this band I suggest“Burn” and “Sail Away”. “You Fool No One” close behind. Thanks again for your excellent reactions.
@@BeeLineEast It felt that way to me too overall but part of me felt that they just needed to hear it and that’s happening now, a lot more than I would have expected. Listening and forming their own opinions about it...

When I saw the name Stormbringer, I instantly thought of Elric of Melnibone soul sucking sword Stormbringer. Blue Oyster Cult has a song about that. It's called Black Blade.
Now what song are you gonna use to introduce people to Deep Purple? They were (are) the best. Great reaction and thanks for getting around to this one. 🔥
Dis is a BBAAADDD song! The product of some BBAAADDD dudes. Nothing that nobody doesn't know already (love the little bit of "Funk" coming through on this too). You can hear that "Rainbow" flavor that would come later through Ritchie's playing...but, that's another iconic band for another day.
Great reaction! The most commercially successful line-up were active from 69 - 73 and included Ian Gillan (crazy good vocals on Child in Time) and Roger Glover on bass. They were best iteration, IMHO. This one has a different vocalist. For more with Ian Gillan check out 'Bloodsucker' or 'Space Truckin' for a couple of straight bangers that haven't already been overdone by other reactors. Cheers!!
Super reaction jay! My favorite studio album by Deep Purple, but I love every single album Deep Puple have made where Richie Blackmore has been a part of and it´s a lot
Hard Rock Royalty right there. Ritchie Blackmore is one of the smoothest guitar players around. Jon Lord on Keys. David Coverdale singing and Glenn Hughes on vox & Bass. Glenn is the only one still really rocking. Just recorded an album with the Dead Daisies and it is real rock and roll !
Lazy is one of their all time best. If you like the wild bass, wild keyboards and wild drumming in the Deep Purple you have reviewed so far, this one is a must....the intro is several minutes long...
I’ve been away too long for no good reason. My bad. Cool to see you enjoy this so much. That was fun. Honest reaction. Had a thought - this could be your nickname as a boxer, “Stormbringer”.
@@AGDinCA Thanks AGD, this was an outstanding reaction here. He really got this tune’s greatness. Give me the original anyday, or the Made in Europe version. No need to cover this song...
Ive been a Purple fan since hearing Smoke on the water on the radio in 1972 for the first time, got Machine head on vinyl then Fireball, In rock,Made in Japan when it came out,Who do we think we are, then front man Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover left the band, and I ran across Burn in stores later on,and saw that there was a different front man David Coverdale and bassist Glenn Hughes, but i got it anyway, then got Storm Bringer when it came out,and both Purple phase 2 and there were good, long as Blackmore and Lord were still in it,and I also liked Come taste the band with Tommy Bolin on guitar who joined Purple after Blackmore quit to form Rainbow, unfortunately the band only recorded one album with Tommy.
Welcome to the Purple-family! We are the happiest people! Next stop is the song Burn live 1974 California jam. Same setting as Stormbringer. In that video you will hear not only one but two of the greatest singers of all times

Excellent choice for a Deep Purple review. This is their last gasp of greatness in my opinion. I am totally devoted to the Deep Purple of "Machine Head" from my high school days. Every song on that album was perfect.
This lead singer, David Coverdale, from Whitesnake, had replaced the original, Ian Gillan, for 4 years. Also check out Burn, with David Coverdale, and new bassist, Glenn Hughes, whom also sings on this. Burn is absolutely fire as hell

This incarceration of Deep Purple features Dave Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes bass and vocals. (Ian Gillian and Roger Glover left the band by this time.)
Might I suggest something from Come Taste The Band (The Mark 4 lineup)? Although I love every song on this album, I would recommend "Dealer". A nasty opening guitar riff by Tommy Bolin, followed by a funky Glenn Hughes bass line. Then the soulful Coverdale vocals come in. What is unique about this song is the midpoint breakdown where Bolin is given the lead vocal spotlight. The ending is an all out jam fest featuring a blistering Bolin solo! Highly recommended!!!
I need to ask about that painting. Did you paint it and who is that to you? If you dont mind me asking. And I love deep purple but please do some old SCORPIONS. I suggest FLY TO THE RAINBOW or EVENING WIND. Once you hear those you will rabbit hole that shit 🤘🤘
Stormbringer? Now you don't see that every day on a reaction channel. Great choice, great reaction!

Black Country Communion and The Winery Dogs are the two best bands of the last decade or so.

Burn is epic
This isn't Ian Gillan (child in time) but David Coverdale is an amazing vocalist too
Deep Purple was the reason many of the children of the 70's had melted brains!! We loved every minute of it then and still do.
