Martha's play is the greek legend of Ariadne, she is the goddess of the labyrinth who falls in love with the hero Theseus and gives him a sword and a ball of thread to help him survive and guide his way out of the labyrinth(this is where he famously kills the Minotaur)
Ariadne is not a goddes, but a princess. The Minotaur is her half brother. Every year 12 young men and 12 young women (or was it 10 or 20? Don't remember exactly) from Athens are saccrificed to the Minotaur in Crete. (This is a punishment after Athens lost a war to Crete). Theseus is a prince of Athens himself and goes to Crete as one of the young men and Ariadne falls for him and helps him. She betrays her half brother and father by doing so. She flees with Theseus to Athens, but Theseus betrays her and leaves her on an island on their way back. She curses him. He forgets to rise a white sail instead of a black one. He promised his father, King Eageus, that he would rise a white sail if he survived and came back alive. The King is waiting for his son to return, but sees the ship with the black sail. He is overcome with grief and trows himself into the sea and dies (while his son is actually alive and well, hence Greek Tragedy).

Jonas's mother is a deeply unhappy person. In her youth, she had always longed for Ulrich, but she was never more than his secret lover. Eventually, she married Michael, unaware that he was actually Mikkel, Ulrich’s son from the future. Without realizing it, she had become part of the Nielsen family, directly connected to the man she had once desired. Her emotional need for connection is so overpowering that she is willing to betray Michael, sleeping with Ulrich even as he grieves the loss of his son, Mikkel, to the mysteries of time-something neither of them fully understands yet.
