The Flash is a 2023 American superhero film based on the DC character of the same name.
Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, Double Dream, and the Disco Factory, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the 13th installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
The film is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / The Flash alongside Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, and Michael Keaton. In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother's death, which brings unintended consequences.

I think this is going to be one of those rare times he does it. I think a movie REALLY has to earn it now, and The Flash definitely did.

At least Cobra Kai, Blade Runner 2049 and Top Gun Maverick rejects modernity mentality (ala Bill and Ted in Bill and Ted 3, Luke in Last Jedi, Indy 5 Indy, Scream 5 dewey) and embraced tradition on classic cinematic heroes like Deckard, Maverick and Daniel Larusso and given redemption
I honestly feel sorry for the actors Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, George Clooney, Jeremy Irons, Nicolas Cage, Helen Slater, Maribel Verdú, and even Ian Loh (the actor who played young Barry). Apart from Ezra Miller for obvious reasons, they all deserve better than this.

Tis the return of Matts infamous "RANT" titles! Man I've missed those so much.
I was in the middle of watching Independence Day when I saw that Matt uploaded this review (I think I just started the July 4th segment of the movie to be exact). The remainder of the movie was the longest last 45-60 minutes ever. I wanted to watch Matt's review. And although I've seen Independence Day what feels like a million times, I wanted to finish it first before the review.
This is easily one of the most overhyped/overrated movies of the year. I always thought Ezra Miller was super miscast as Barry Allen and he was really annoying/insufferable in this as well.
The controversy with him didn’t help either
The number one thing that kills me about the dceu is the wasted potential with the whole universe.
David Zaslav needs to resign as CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery because he is destroying animation by taking away shows from Max and destroying Turner Classic Movies. I'm starting to respect Ted Turner a lot more now because of this.
They had to put Batman into the story, just to get some more attention.
And then stupidly kill him and Supergirl off which pissed me off.
The only good thing was the touching ending and the George Clooney cameo was kind of funny.

the absolute worst scene is the overly long piece where Barry is searching for the other members of the Justice League and then some slob lifts his leg to show he has a tattoo of Eric Stoltz on his calf. I would never have wrote that crap let alone actually included it in the 200-300 million dollar movie.
That bit with the weird chick burping the words "I'm Batman.." takes the cake for me. And who the f**k is Eric Stoltz?!?!
This is well deserved Epic Dc rant because Erza miller’s flash is silly and goofy, the VFx is just trash and we will never see Keaton’s batman again and this was justified garbage

I won’t lie I went to see it just because of Michael Keaton’s Batman and I had a gift card to use. I wanted to see him as Batman on the big screen since I wasn’t there in 1989. It was also nice to see Ben Affleck’s Batman again and for the last time. One of the only positives of this universe. I still stand by they did him dirty. Besides the suicide squad movies and the first Wonder Woman, the DCEU was a complete mess. Hopefully James Gunn will do a better job.

Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle were really the only things I liked in this, but they definitely did Michael Keaton dirty in the end by killing him off although that just seems to be another stupid trend in Hollywood nowadays.

I didn’t even bother seeing this. First it was solely because of Ezra Miller but then, oh boy, I heard keaton’s Batman dies in this film and that made me go “yep fuck this movie already” so glad I didn’t waste my time or money
I watched the movie, but I didn't pay for it. I know of a streaming site. They had the movie up. Of course, I had to watch a copy of the movie where someone films it in the theater, but the streaming site I know of had it up and I watched it. Glad I didn't pay to watch it. Extraction 2 was the better movie to release on June 16th. That I actually went to Netflix and watched it (twice) instead of going to that streaming site I watched The Flash on. I'm glad I gave Extraction 2 views on Netflix. I even gave it a "thumbs up." Extraction 2 deserves the views and thumbs up.

My biggest problem with The Flash is how the entire story is about Barry trying to fix the things he did wrong, just for Barry to make the same fucking mistake again by the end. And because of that everything changed again. This guy didn’t learn his lesson at all. Like what was the point of the movie then? This doesn’t feel like a satisfying ending to the DCEU at all. I thought he would somehow reboot the entire universe which would start the James Gunn universe, but no we have Aquaman Wonder Woman and George Clooney as Batman? We also probably get a new Flash as well, like how does that work? Are these characters and relationships the same in the new DC universe, because if they are it doesn’t make any sense

What up Matt. I am not a fan of James Gunn. He always shit up Marvel and DC comic book movies. The CGI is terrible, weak. I couldn't believe that Michael Keaton as Batman gets killed, Supergirl was wasted. I have no offence to Sasha Calle either.

Supposedly the same director, producer and many others who worked on this movie is COMING BACK to direct James Gunn's Batman movie for his "NEW VISION OF THE DC WORLD" aka "DCU". How stupid can you be to bring back ANYONE who worked on what is being called "the biggest film bomb of history" to work on your NEW universe???? This is stupid. I want to say it first before anyone else, right here right now: James Gunn's universe and superman movie will make the early dceu films and man of steel look like MASTERPIECES! There was a cancelled live action Flash movie in the 2000s starring Ryan Reynolds as Flash from screenwriter David S Goyer who wrote Blade 1 & 2. His script was fantastic and this version should’ve been made instead of what we got

The MOST miscast actor of all time. Horrible actor. Supergirl sucked too. Is it hard to have Flash aka Barry Allen blonde? Is that too much to ask? How many Barry's have we had and they still can't cast someone who is blonde or have a guy dye his hair. I know it's a small thing, but I want to see the character from the comics. Same goes for Supergirl.
P.s. Even Chris Evans DYED his hair for Captain America for crying out loud.
Epic job on this epic rant on a film that should have been shelved and cancelled in the first place. The studio should have taken the tax write off and then shifted their focus to a Batman Beyond film with Michael Keaton in a futuristic future version of the Burtonverse. But nooo...DC had to once again try to chase Marvel's money train and made a half assed version of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Extraction 2 was definitely the better movie to release on June 16th. Also I get the whole thing of visually seeing Michael Keaton. That was my big complaint and why i was making a big deal of him dying. Yeah, Flash does go back in time and it's implied that he puts an end to Michael Keaton dying, but the last time we see him onscreen, it's his death. Oh and the only DC movie I care about right now is The Batman 2 since it'll have nothing to do with James Gunn's universe. And it's already off to a bad start because I heard Keaton was in the ending of The Flash, but James Gunn had stuff changed so it was Clooney's Bruce Wayne. There is even shots of Keaton filming the ending and him being at the courthouse. But no. Gunn wanted to change it to Clooney. So I DO NOT trust Gunn. The ONLY DC movie I care about right now is The Batman 2, which is a DC Elseworld movie.
You ain't alone. I hated this film! Extraction 2 was good but I hated the ending and that dumb ass teenager who got the one lady's brother killed. Keaton and the chick who played Supergirl were the highlights but this film butchered the Flashpoint storyline. It's like they knew that they had good but they axed it out of support for Ezra Miller and his special privileged ass! The only DC films I wanna see is The Batman 2, Joker 2 and I'm curious about Gunn's Superman because I like the guy they got for the film.

@@wiinterflowers4277, I liked 2’s ending. We got some final fight. The fight could’ve went on a little longer, but at least we got some final showdown between the good guy and bad guy. Plus I liked how Chris Hemsworth kills the main guy. Also, the ending gave Chris Hemsworth some closure on his son’s death. That internal struggle is over with. Now Chris Hemsworth can go into 3 with a clear head. He’ll be in a better mental state. Plus he can be more of a hero since his son said he saw his dad as some hero. It’ll be crazy to see what Chris Hemsworth’s character is capable of with a clear head and a new motivation. He isn’t doing the job now hoping to die. He’s doing it to be that hero his son saw him as.

Honestly they could’ve written Barry Allan as autistic without making him an immature idiot in the process.
Work and saving people could’ve been his hyper fixations, he could’ve had trouble making friends because there’s no other people like him until… he’s introduced to the Justice League and they give him a safe space where he can talk about superhero stuff.
Tacos could be his comfort food and Iris could be his only friend that he talks to outside of being a superhero and then they could develop feelings for each other that way. Oh, and he’s not late to work because you know, he’s The Flash.
The best live-action Flash/speedster around today is A-Train from The Boys.

It's kinda funny because I have been talking shit about this movie for years. Zack Snyder could have given us a much more comic accurate Flashpoint instead of Flash No Way Home.
Speaking of which, I read both Flash Rebirth and Flashpoint, and let me say this movie doesn't even come close to any comics.
The Flashpoint Paradox is still the best flash movie. Pretty accurate to the comic as well
just shows how creatively bankrupt this era of movies and multiverse nonsense is that they can bring back a defeated villain (a boring one at that from a heavily flawed movie) and him be a threat that actually screws over their world with no happy ending really. man, they brought the modern Batman back to do him wrong.
Knew this was coming. I hated this film with passion. Worst film this year. Ezra Miller should act again. He's trash as an actor and a human being. The beyond horrible cgi and the baby scene was so cringe inducing. Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle was the best part, but they were so wasted.

I totally agree with you. I thought this movie was an absolute mess. As much I liked Michael Keaton returning as Batman, I just wasn't feeling it completely. I don't know. It is like, he is back in time and has this ability to keep changing the past and the present. So it seemed like it all did not matter as much. Batman or Supergirl did not matter as much. It was just these cheap experiences created by whatever reality he would choose. Call me heartless, but I did not really care about his mommy issues that much either. Yes, it is creative and perhaps different in many ways than the usual superhero movie, but that isn't always a good thing.
Yeah this movie didn't work for me either > They took a really awesome all-time classic flash story and made it into a slap sticc joke movie with a couple of good emotional resident scenes which could of been used in a way better flashpoint movie.

I finally saw this recently and it's a speeding dumpster fire.
I actually personally liked this film. Granted the CGI is really bad but even though The main actor did something horrible, I'll separate the art from the artist.
Ezra Miller performance as The Flash an with the other version of himself was funny, the cameo's were funny with Nick Cage an George Clooney was very funny, Lol 🙂
The action was cool an Michael Keaton as Batman in this put on a Good performance 🙂

Listen......no,i am not an accountant- but when i see/hear about production companies green- lighting a movie then AFTER its wrapped up filming the company (Warner Bros) decides "oh we cannot allow our beautiful viewer's to see this film because its not good!"

I have never been impressed by crossovers (or "All Stars", as it was referred back in the 1990s). Crossovers always come off as cringe.
Its very rare when a crossover works for me.

This movie is proof superhero fatigue is very real. Guardians made good $ bc it was the last one. I was looking forward to the movie until I saw the trailer. The trailer just looked like everything I was hoping the film wouldn't be. I wasn't a big fan of pattinson's batman, but I'm not surprised that film did a lot better than this.
Ralph is right! Spiderman: No Way Home was one of the biggest nostalgia-baiting movies I've ever seen, and everybody fell for it. Movies today lack creativity, imagination and innovation. Those three core concepts mean nothing without heart, passion, guts, and skill. Writing men and women shouldn't be this damn hard, I wish they would stop interjecting their forced politics into movies and remaking, rebooting, remaking already established franchise that are dead. Let everything rest for a while, find young talented writers, directors, and actors that are hungry for work and ready to put their soul into a project, to make changes and revise their work if need be.
Bring some new titles to the film industry. I don't understand why Marvel and DC are the only ones that are able to make superhero movies, we've got tons of history and mythology to pull from. The key is not originality, it's execution. What is going to make me sympathize and empathize with the main and supporting characters. Are they psychologically complex with a backstory, personality, likes, dislikes and most important flaws. If you're female character is perfect and an omnipotent Mary Sue goddess, then nobody is going to root for them, if all your male characters are evil, nobody will respect your film because it's one-dimensional. You'd think the executives and bosses who own these major companies would know all this stuff or at least hire people to inform them on why their losing money and everybody hates them.
I thought No Way Home was alright but it’s something how that ended up making a lot of money yet Flash didn’t at all

Zach Snyder just has a huge fetish to keep doing these DCEU films, and just because you include two Batman's, especially with Michael FUCKING Keaton in it doesn't mean it will make it any better, especially for his fan base of Batman films which is a disgrace. I don't want to go into Ezra Miller, but this should've never been released along with his allegations. Zach Snyder also needs to retire for good. Awesome rant, Matt! I will never see this film.

I loved seeing Keaton again, but they wasted him. The Christopher Reeve cameo was painful as a fan of those films. This movie shouldn't exist, why didn't they just make Batman 3 with Michael Keaton, and have Billy Dee as Two Face. That should have been made in the 1990s instead of Batman Forever.
Blame it on McDonald's for that

Surprised Tim even put up with the insane asks of the producers like that hairdresser guy. Jon Peters. and worked with him again on Superman lives, which never was made, probably regrets that.

The flash is good character in the comics and animated stuff but Ezra is the most worst casted actor since Kate bosworth as Lois lane just does not fit the character no wonder they changed the flashpoint story cause Ezra can’t be the flash cause that version demands an Adam brody who was cast In George miller’s cancelled justice League movie or a comedic and dramatic actor with charm for the film and not a creepy Jared from subway like awkward fruit cake but even when he does all these controversial and looney things and people demand a recast even with the tv version instead they thought the audience would go and see a film with this basically criminal in it is the peak of human stupidity and they knew this film wasn’t gonna do well so they put Keaton in here for nostalgia that’s why he is there enough said
Adam Brody would be a better choice. He was great in Ready or Not and I liked him in Shazam films. I've warmed up to him and he's got that nerdy but likable vibe. Not to mention he's sane, pretty and likable in real life. Not to mention, his wife is absolutely gorgeous!

that scene with the food eating and saving babies was absolute trash. James Gunn calling this one of the greatest films ever made he's deluded. Ezra Miller was the worse choice to play The Flash he's even more cringe in this than he was in Justice League. You can totally tell the Clooney cameo was a reshoot due to Millers fatter fat and hair. apparently Nicolas Cage shot that cameo in person and yet it its CGI trash.
