If this was a Ninja Turtles movie, I look forward to the next Batman reboot where Bruce lives with his parents until he's 46 and becomes a vigilante because he's angry that his parents kicked him out.
As the economy in the United States continues to implode I think it will become more and more normal to just stay living with your parents forever.... As it has always been in most of the world.
The whole concept of ninja turtles is ridiculous but Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird at least took it seriously. That all went out the window once they sold it to Nickelodeon.

I'll never understand the negativity for the first two 1990s TMNT films, plus Ebert & Siskel were hypocrites on the Original films and their opinions are inconsistent if you see their review.
The criticisms for Secret of the Ooz is justified it was executed poorly, parents ruined the movie to make it more "family friendly" because the first film was "too dark". They made the Shredder who was an actual threat into a joke and removed Mikey's nunchucks because of legal reasons. It's not nearly as bad as the third film but it has a lot of issues that could of been avoided if there wasn't any studio interference. I'm fine with the idea of making one adaptation more in tone with the animated 80's version but the fact that the 2 films are connected and the 2nd film is a continuation is such a slap in the face.. My 3 issues with the first film is that studios wouldn't allow a full on rated R film, Mikey's scene was replaced with Raph's voice over and the Shredder fighting Foot members as punishment of their failure was cut out.
Also, fuck Corey Failedman. I can't watch a movie with him in it now a days after the bs he pulled and betrayed Haim's trust... pretty much spat on his grave. People try to excuse creators and those involved for being horrible people saying that they can "separate the art from the artist." when that's bullshit. You're still giving them credit and recognition.
This movie completely misses the point of Ninja Turtles. It’s a ridiculous concept but all the ninja mythology and characters are played straight. This is just dumb kids humor that I wouldn’t have liked even when I was a kid. I also grew up with the 2003 series and it pisses me off that Nickelodeon and Paramount continue to ignore that show when it is one of the best iterations of the turtles and respected the audience’s intelligence. This is actually worse than the last two live action movies. This version of Splinter is easily the worst and completely misused Jackie Chan.
I mean Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003): The Ultimate Collection DVD (A.K.A. The complete series) was released on July 25, 2023, but of course I heard that was only put out as a cash grab to coincide with Mutant Mayhem that came out a week after that DVD set was released.
@@andykishoreI was meaning more so that pretty much all of the most recent Turtles media largely pulls from the 80’s cartoon and not the 2003 one. The 2012 one was a good mix of both but everything since has been paying homage mainly to the 80’s cartoon.
@@umbrellaunderdog that's because new line wanted to make a quick cash grab buck giving into the demands of foriegn markets censoring ninjas and nunchucks calling them hero turtles thus effecting the western cartoon, making a foreign cut of the 1990 film that turn the japanese elements into koreans and censoring Michaelangelos weapons and putting in goofy sounds when the turtles fought or extra footage of leonardo fight choreography in aprils apartment to cover the Michaelangelo nunchaku kata with the foot claiming its uneducational to view things non eurocentric and western, angry parents groups complaining about pg and pg-13 horror or action movies that children and the entire family can watch like batman, gremlins, ghostbusters, Indiana Jones with horror or adult sexual themes. And the studio wanted to make it like the cartoon rather than the mirage comics that made the 1990 film successful and eastman and laird didn't want to do bebop and rocksteady or krang but caved since the first movie already blew their cards on the return to new york story that had the shredder worm clones they made up super shredder and made up tokka and rhazar to appease that 87 cartoon demand.
@@umbrellaunderdog it's too late to make a sequel to the 1990 film when everyone involved are too old to reprise the roles has controversy that won't allow said splinter actor and Donatello voice actor to be casted in any Hollywood projects and blacklisted from Hollywood and its run its course the best thing is to start fresh and do the mirage comics as a film and take inspiration from the 1990s grunge and grit and make practical suits with minimal cgi other than that it can only get a comic book in the vein of batman 89 or batman 67 animated movies
Also don't forget that Paramount's CEO Brian Robbins, yes the director of Norbit believe it or not, said that the studio will not produce original content, just its IP content because it is not worth investing. At least Guillermo Del Toro is passionate about animation in general and makes animation not just for kids, but for adults as well.
@benalviani1558: I agree, the 2003 cartoon gave me lots of hours of entertainment having been a TMNT fan since my childhood in the 1980/90's. Still enjoy the 1990 movie to this day. After having seen this movie recently, I would much rather stay home and read the Mirage and IDW comic books then watch Mutant Mayhem again. The jokes really got old fast and I did not care for how they changed up the Turtles and Splinter's backstory either. The animation was really not that great either. Honestly, I had a better time watching Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse than I did watching this.
Great job tearing this apart. What you have described here with this abomination maybe as bad as this sounds maybe AI taking over scripts doesn't sound so bad. All this stuff you mention about Turtle's wondering what Splinter's ass smells like... that dialogue too me, who gives a rat's ass? Literally. Everything about this movie perfectly reflects the tik tok society. Like a bunch of tik toker's took over the script and add in mindless, childish humor that makes these characters look like complete idiots. Mutant Mayhem has made the 2014 movie tolerable. I never thought I would see these characters sink this low... great rant.
I dont care what anyone says I still love the first two live action movies from the 90's aswell as the 2003 cartoon. I really wish they would go back and give us stuff like that instead of trying to kiddify this franchise for the new generation because us older fans who grew up with these characters deserve so much better IMO. Granted, I haven't seen this movie yet and honestly I'm in no rush to but even based off the trailers I knew it wasn't going to be for me.
Softening Sensitising Woke Feminist Black-washing Asexual Amoral Pc Bs. That's all the media is spewing out these days. Wait till they start multicultural-ing the stuff next, basically pushing us out entirely.
And it's most the ginger/redhead characters, if a original black character gets slightly more light skinned it's the end of the world, but with gingers characters it's like a demand that they got swapped (by only black characters, never other ethinicity might ad), i guess is because gingers/redheads are more white than most usual white people, so that's okay to change 🙄.
Ever since Spiderverse came out every other animation studio is gonna use that style now. Spiderverse is based on a comic so it works for that, but not every movie based on a comic has to look like that. Also the character designs in the new TMNT are ugly. I went to school for animation and I can't get a job anywhere, but they'll hire anybody off of Tumblr or DeviantArt I guess.
Im just sticking with the eastman and laird Mirage Comics ( i hope Volume 4 gets completed ), the 1990 movie, and the underated 2003 series, and the bodycount miniseries, souls winter
Even the toys look cheap. It's kind of a kick in the nuts when the comic book gave us a great run like the last Ronin and the CGI 2012 nickelodeon show gave us a better teenage turtles.
@garrettwittenberg2383: I agree, I started buying TMNT action figures again in 2007 when the CGI animated movies was coming out. I have a mix of both vintage Playmates action figures and some of the newer stuff(a few action figures from the 2003 cartoon, the 2007 movie, a bunch of action figures released between 2012 to now and occasionally whatever vintage action figures Playmates releases again). None of the action figures from this movie interested me at all.
I honestly feel sorry for the actors Jackie Chan, Rose Byrne, Paul Rudd, Ice Cube, Maya Rudolph, Giancarlo Esposito, Hannibal Buress and even Brady Noon. They all deserve better than this. And I want only Seth Rogen to be in serious dramas, or gritty dark thrillers from now on. The Fablemans which is a movie I want to see along with Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs and Donnie Darko are Seth being in serious movies as examples. The last time I cared about Seth Rogen in a comedy project was Good Boys. Go ahead, you don't have to agree with me. You can say it's bad. We all got opinions. I personally like that film. But after that film, I for sure gave up on Seth Rogen entirely as hm being involved in comedy.
So far, you and 3 other videos I watched were honest about their reviews. This movie was hot garbage. 1990 & 1991 were both so fun. Loved the first 1990 movie, they acted more like teens from the 90s. If anyone is paying attention. Teens from the 90s were more mature, just like how I was as a teen. This movie on the other hand they were so annoying. Now I see why people call them a bunch of tik tok brats. Now Raphael from the 90s movie. I loved how he was. His attitude was of a New Yorkers act. Plus, he Aimed to fit in. One of the reasons why he was so angry. Donnie was always a nerd. He never needed glasses. Leo, had a very fun calm attitude the very wholesome respectful. Mikey was always fun he was silly and funny. The 1990s movie was great. Oh, and can't forget Splinter best version of him. Wise and humble. A person you would listen to. And Shredder, come on, was very intimidating. Just crazy how they ruined TMNT as a whole.
The April and Casey too were the best in this 90s film. Not much so in the sequels nor in the other movies or series. The 90s film is that golden standard.
Unfortunately we live in an era where overhyped potheads like Kevin Smith and Seth Rogan get to take stuff we liked as kids and shit on them. With that actors and writers strike going on I doubt this will get a sequel. But Hollywood is a shit hole now and there's not much we can do about it but let it burn.
@@ramboraph4life plus you have the opening scene appropriately using Ante up to steal from the store, The Chop shop fight scene the montage taking down bosses using no diggity, The 4 non blondes car scene, Splinter breaking in the save to them, where he probably killed a dude. All the bestist turtles adaptations that are the only ones worth seeing are the original 1990 movie the frst sequel the 80s 90s cartoon and the 2003 animated series.
at least the 03 version did an attempt at a watered down of the comics.. The original live action film I believe tried but were held back by studio interference.
YES!! Even putting RANT in the title. Epic review Matt. These are my favorites from you. You get angrier and angrier at the movie as the review goes on.
The guy saw an early screening the movie where the cockroach was male and their was a poster that said as himself and they probably got cold feet after the target backlash and quietly changed it to female from what I understand
Michaelangelo was the worst. The way he looked and sounded.,Damn. I like that style of animation overall tho, I’d like to see more of it for a serious He-man film. Or even serious Turtles. I’ll never watch this one again tho.
The ninja turtles aren't supposed to be super heroes their supposed to be child soilder assassins seeking revenge for the death of the hamato yoshi and tang shen why do they keep ignoring the mirage origin
It's funny a lil kid behind me kept talking to his dad, and he actually knew what Ferris Bueller was. I was shocked lol. He was like "is that the movie were he stole that car?"
This movie sets tmnt potential back in cinema as a throwaway kids movie when we could've got the mirage comics as a film. The negative about mutant meyhem movie, they remove the ninja angle for no reason, they removed the hamato yoshi tang shen orroku nagi origin, and just make splinter a regular sewer rat in need of friends and learns ninja after his mutation and being shunned by humanity, they cheapen baxter stockman, april vomiting and treated like a joke making her black Irma combined with april, the art style sucks in my opinion, it's the 87 cartoon, making bebop and rocksteady neutral good guys that get to live with the turtles, they change leatherhead female, the milking jokes. The good were the turtles actors and ice cube as super fly I wish ice cube was given a better role like hun or something
You know you're in for a fun time whenever Matt uses the intro. This movie makes me like the Jonathan Liebsman TMNT movie better. I mean that movie was shit but at least it respected the characters more than this. I guess Seth Rogan was high the whole time he made the movie 😆 I mean it probably still would be bad because the animation looked terrible, but if this movie had a different producer, writer, and director it might have been decent. Maybe if they got those Stranger Things kids to do the voices for the turtles it would have been better. Or they could have just not made it at all. It is what it is.
This further proves the 1990 film and 1991 sequel are the best.I knew this rant was coming. I saw this at the theater and I was enraged on the inside. This is the worst next to The Flash as the top 2 worst of this year. Screw Seth Rogan, who is a hack and needs to quit the business.
When I was a child about 4 or 5 I went for Halloween as raph(cheap plastic costume it was the 90s and I grew up poor) I still have that costume I'm gonna give it to my nephew if he gets into them (he's stuck on dinosaurs, but the last time he was over we watched alligator and he wasn't scared he was cheering)
I actually love this rant! I hated this damn movie I couldn’t even finish it! These are not the turtles that I love and it’s definitely not the turtles us fans deserve
As a Gen Z fan who grew up with the 2012 version and enjoyed every show and movie (including the cringy next mutation show), I stayed open minded about the changes but was proven correct about their blatant ignorance and lack of care. This movie sucked from the disrespect of the lore to its weak story and mediocre character writing; the spider verse animation was a work of art now its been saturatised and overused. The pop culture references and stupid jokes made me wanna throw something, and the soundtrack annoyed me to no end ( because I don't listen to that crap on the regular) .Glad my mom enjoyed it but that was the worst screening I ever had in my life .After seeing that mid-credit scene I hope shredder kills them all. Thanks for the video Im glad you can see past the bull unlike all these professional critics who are choosing to overlook everything.
First two TMNT are great, they have flaws but still enjoyable & fun comic book movies that treats our favourite characters with respect Third movie sucks, but still watchable than crap that is coming recently Tmnt 2003 is my favourite show of all time, people working on it did stuff differently but for the better & characters has personality & character development,I love intros & music theme (4 seasons theme & Fast Forward theme)
Here's my opinion... TMNT (1990) is peak TMNT. TMNT 2 Secret Of The Ooze (1991) has a badassery to it. Sure, it didn't have as much dark moments as the 1990 film, but stil... TMNT 3 Turtles In Time (1993) is alright. I love time travel, and time shifts. The costumes were hideous, however. TMNT/TMNT 4 Immortal (2007) is also peak TMNT, mostly because it induces more nuanced views of the Turtles. TMNT 2/TMNT 5 Shredder's Revenge (2009 - unproduced) probably would be an interesting concept on The Last Ronin, but with a better ending. It would have given Michelangelo a character arc. TMNT 3/TMNT 6 Invasion From Dimension X (2011 - unproduced) would have opened up their world on a level no one would have seen in a Ninja Turtles movie before, focusing on Donatello. Plus, rather than Kevin Munroe being the lead director and Tom Tanaka being a co-director, the roles would have been reversed, or perhaps Munroe would not be involved with the direction of this film at all. Finally, all the Turtles have their own character arc.
I enjoyed Turtles when they were in "Back to the future" comic book arc. They were full grown adults at this point and I loved it while being a kid. Those modern movies are not for me
Great review .. I pretty much hate everything that’s new because they’re written by woke activist feminist gender studies college drop outs. Gone are the days of visionary filmmakers like Hitchcock, Kazan, Copalla, ect …welcome to the age of movie written by committees who check boxes instead of having a c*nt hair of talent
I watched "Out of the Shadows" for the first time last weekend. I will say, if it weren't for the 100% awful look of the turtles (which is impossible to get past to give it the pass) or it being a sequel to 2014, I might say it's a good one.
That scene with them accidentally throwing a ninja star and it lodging into April’s helmet was tasteless. SO not what the turtles are about. And a black April? She has an Irish last name! 😂. I enjoyed some parts of the movie but these things took me out of the movie.
@@k-dogg9086 It would have sounded better with Mitchell Whitfield as Donatello. He made the best Donatello in the history of TMNT, alongside Corey Feldman. I mean, Donatello was voiced by a teenager in 1990.
43:55-44:35 You and Efree are 100% right. 58:09-58:12 🤣🤣🤣🤣 59:21-1:00:06 You hit it right on the nail Matt. 1:09:25 Funny enough Seth Rogan voiced ''Donkey Kong'' in that film but thankfully he had zero to do with the writing of that film which is a big plus LOL. TMNT 2007 film could've been very good but they dropped the ball big time at least in that film they did Raph right when compared to this latest film and both 2014&2016 films where they did him dirty. Another epic fantastic job on the epic long rant brother👍👍
I saw this movie, yeah it totally sucked. The humour was unfunny and cringe to sit through, the designs were disgusting to look at, April’s anxiety backstory was stupid and pathetic, and I hated the cheese and Doritos joke and the scene where Mikey shakes his ass at the camera while grinning evily for 3 seconds. Only good things of this movie was Ice Cube’s decent performance and Jackie Chan was alright as Splinter but his should have been in a GOOD TMNT film not a shitty one. How could Jeff Rowe go from Mitchells to this hell When I made my rant on this, it got over 9 dislikes from TMNT fanboys and only 5 likes so I had to delete it and re upload it with a new title. I swear in this world it’s such a crime to hate one movie that everybody liked. It’s like it’s a crime to hate AVATAR 2, a crime to hate Disney today, and now seems like a crime to hate this movie.
I have been waiting for your reaction to this abomination of a turtles film. Thank you so much for all of you honest reviews over the years as a fellow TMNT fan.

As a long time fan of the tmnt I certainly have no interest in viewing the film. I’ve seen the trailer quite a few times and I just can’t seem to care for it. My favorites are the 2012 series, the 2003 turtles, the 80s turtles, the 1990s films and outside of that everything else is hot garbage in my opinion. I’m a young guy and can confirm I’m not as obnoxious or annoying as the turtles in this film.Seeing them act this way insults the characters including myself as a fan and a young person. None of them feel like the characters that appealed to me when I was younger. The film loses the charm of the characters completely. If they’re gonna do a tmnt film. Why not concentrate on all sides of the characters instead of just the “teenage” aspect? Someone’s interpretation of a teenager can differ from another persons take on what a teenager may be. There is no definitive way a teenager acts because everybody has different mannerisms. Teenagers don’t all act the same way. They have their own personalities. It’s called being an individual which is something this film seems to lack with these characters. All of turtles act the same. You can’t tell them apart. They’re all one character at the same time. They have no individuality so they no longer stand out. Besides the turtles have always felt like teens. It’s in the fucking name. That was never an issue. Let’s be for real Seth Rogan does not know anything about what teenagers are like today any more than he knows about the Ninja turtles. I don’t want a coming of age teen comedy about the turtles I want a high flying action packed, brutal, bloody spectacle with Leo,Raph, Donny, and Mikey. Is that so hard to ask for? Thanks for the review matt. Great work as always. You said what we all needed to hear about this film. I appreciate the work. You’ve been on a roll lately. Keep kicking ass and taking names! Let’s hope they make Tmnt great again one day.
I won't even see this insult for a turtles movie. I can't believe that it didn't even have the Shredder in it the Shredder is my favorite turtles character. That's why I love the 1990 movie so much the Shredder was so dark and powerful in thar movie. I also liked the 1991 movie and I loved the 80s cartoon and I loved the 2003 Shredder
On the list according to the Hollywood reporter the best to worst TMNT movies I’m not gonna name the whole list I’m just gonna name one and two 1. Mutant mayhem 2. TMNT 1990 OK people keep kissing the ass of Hollywood elites
The Only good thing about the Michael Bay movies, is the 10 second sequence of shredder whacking the spit out of one of his ninja with his hands tied. All the rest of the footage from all other TMNT movies released after the 1990s original, can go in the trash.
It was so bad I can't even watch your review haha. The only saving grace was during my showing a little kid was laughing, which made me laugh. She was like 5 and foudn random stuff funny. My wife fell asleep. I was just waiting for it to start getting good. How can they not just adopt a comic verision or build off what was good before? I was pretty shocked how awful it was. I'll watch your review after I get this "Oooooozzee ... rolls off the tongue hehehe" out of my mind. And the Milking jokes? Seth Rogan should stick with Sausage Party style stuff, he's not meant for quality cartoons. And the 90s references were dumb, I am around his same age and it was not working at all.
3:28 Those people suck, I saw John Wick 4 and I loved it. But I saw your review and you pointed out flawless that flew over my head. I can see why you dont like JW4, it's justified with your issues with the film.
I'm not surprised that you hate Mutant Mayhem considering that it's nothing but an insult to TMNT. Add to the fact that the movie contains zero ninja action and has piss poor turtle designs makes this an even bigger insult to TMNT. Even the 3rd movie or Michael Bay's TMNT movies are better than this and that's saying alot.

I been saying this for years. I want an R rated TMNT film like John wick or the raid
Because Nick owns it.
If it’s an adult comedy, then it should serve a purpose.

I don't understand how Seth Rogen lands any job.
I personally didn't care about Seth Rogen.
He plays the Hollywood game.

I honestly knew you'd do a long rant on this. The 2003 show has way better-looking animation than this and it's been 20 years since that came out
Another franchise kids grew up on ruined by an overrated pothead.
How to fix the ninja turtles films: Get us to write them.
True, but Hollywood hates fans like us. They keep telling us that when they make shit like this.
They went to school at the end and every person loved them. Such a Ninja Turtle thing to do
A terrific rant on what has always looked like a pretty terrible TMNT movie to my eyes.

Ever since Spiderverse came out every other animation studio is gonna use that style now. Teens in the 80s and 90s and early 2000's are different than these gen z teens
So their retarded
This movie was a cash grab For licenses that is it.
Supposedly this movie was only made so viacom could fulfill licensing agreements
Doesn't surprise me.
That actually makes sense
Who where the other 2 reviews by that where honest
The 90s Turtles were
like that personality thing.
Leo the Golden Retreiver
Raph the Lion
Mikey the Otter
Don the Beaver.
Look it up pretty fun stuff.
The April and Casey too were the best in this 90s film. Not much so in the sequels nor in the other movies or series. The 90s film is that golden standard.
I still think the animation of this movie works well in the Spider Verse movies.
TMNT 1990 will always be the best Ninja Turtles film. Hell, even TMNT 2 Secret of the Ooze is better than this shite.
Unfortunately we live in an era where overhyped potheads like Kevin Smith and Seth Rogan get to take stuff we liked as kids and shit on them.

I didn't watch it, because I knew it was gonna suck. And I was right. 😒
3:28 Those people suck, I saw John Wick 4 and I loved it. But I saw your review and you pointed out flawless that flew over my head. I can see why you dont like JW4, it's justified with your issues with the film.
Quiet Krys 👍🏽
I appreciate it. Thank you.
Why am I not surprised that this would be reviewed and ranted on?
Against the Ninja 🎤🎵🎶🥷
Because it's garbage lol 😂😂😂😂
Baby Mutant Tik Tok Thieving RUclips-Kung Fu Turtles- 2023. Ok got it.
If splinter isn't from japan in this film how the f$@k does he have a asian accent?
I'm not surprised that you hate Mutant Mayhem considering that it's nothing but an insult to TMNT. Add to the fact that the movie contains zero ninja action and has piss poor turtle designs makes this an even bigger insult to TMNT. Even the 3rd movie or Michael Bay's TMNT movies are better than this and that's saying alot.
