My Dad is a retired fire fighter. Every weekend when I was a kid, we'd go for a drive and he'd talk about something or other. Usually, the story had a moral.
I'm a father now and I told him yesterday that all those times I pretended that I wasn't listening, I was listening most.
I'm terrified trying to fit his shoes but, you remind me alot like my old man Dwayne. Maybe I'll stick around here for abit :)

You made me chuckle, so well stated. I thought of several things that drive me crazy- then realized they all have a common denominator: EGO.
    1) Paying for advice without paying attention. You can learn something from everyone, even if it's what not to do. Be respectful. If you don't agree with an opinion, take it home quietly and chew on it. It may reveal things about yourself that need changed.
    2) Allowing horses to run all over you. So dangerous for everyone, including those who work on them for a living, as well as the horse itself.
    3) Abuse stemming from anger- when egos are bruised because things go wrong. This seems to be a universal problem with kids, animals, spouses, etc.
I could go on and on....
Thank you, Dewayne, for helping me take a hard look at myself and work at becoming a better human.

I hate to see someone whip or yank their horse around, or even verbally berate them when they do something wrong. 99% of the time it isn't even that the horse did the wrong thing, the rider was sending mixed signals, the horse just listened to the "wrong" signal.

  • @GrandPitoVic

    • @nohillforahighstepper
      @nohillforahighstepper Месяц назад +3

      Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.
Sometimes the end result is only a small part of the lesson. Sometimes the journey is the lesson. If you take a different route or shortcut, you might be missing a crucial part of the foundation of the end result.
But I get what you're saying.
When I teach someone, I always ask them to learn it MY way 1st. Then they can change it, if they see a better way, afterward.

I've always wanted to make a "bridle horse" like Pat. But my skills, timing and feel will never get to a level where I will accomplish that. I just don't have the opportunities to ride and train. But there are things about that style of riding that I CAN use.
Where I came from was "the old days". We'd get a horse broke enough to get a job done and then go get that job done. We didn't have good horses but we had good stories.
At 58 years old, I've learned that there are pieces of almost every famous trainer that might work for me...or it might not.
Wisdom can be found in many places.
Keep riding and don't lose your bells!

Well put . There is left and right , right and wrong . Lots of gray between the last two , but inherently we know the difference . If we would just temper our minute differences between what we believe , and how others may do things ; we could ALL learn things we may have never been exposed to previously . We don't have to believe something different , Just accept the difference , explore the possibilities ( as long as it is legal and moral ) to see IF it might work for us too . And if not , move on with what brought us this far . Glad you are back to adjusting the space between the ears of us human "mules" .

    Peaves.
    1. There are so many trainers that are scoundrels and worse even thieves. I really want to send my horse to a trainer for more education, but I've heard so many horror stories.
    2. Not using a rear cinch at all. I know it's always needed, But once you put one on a new horse and they break in half, every horse will have one. Every horse I ride gets a rear cinch.
    3. Allowing horses in your space. Thats the first thing I notice when someone is messing with a horse.

Sweet feed, back in the day, I think I liked it better than my horse did. 😉🤣
I 100% agree with your opinion, but I do have one more pet peeve to add. I really hate a spoiled, coddled horse, the same as I dislike spoiled and coddled children. Ps… I absolutely love your channel and I share it anytime I can. 🥰

Honestly just because you don’t agree with how some people do things doesn’t make them wrong. But when it comes to beating and trying to control that’s not just wrong it’s very dangerous. We all have different strong points we should respect and learn from each other. You’re awesome Sir. Please be respectful to each and everyone no body can be replaceable.

Great point but how do you define what's wrong in this case? Because you see what's going on these days and it's definitely wrong but some could argue it's just different

Great video as always. Also such a glorious beard. I was wondering if you could make a video on hair loss in men? A lot of men go bald at a young age and need some guidance and wisdom. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Made the connection to Christianity immediately. Very timely video for me. Dare I say, you seem like a better theologian than most. Thank you, sir.

I'm not into horses, but I feel like this goes for a lot of things. my primary hobby is cars and again while I'm unfamiliar with horse culture, the cultural "fracturing" you described sounds pretty similar to how a lot of car enthusiasts behave, and it's a shame! there's a difference between behavior/modifications that are genuinely dangerous, and ones that are just choices that aren't to our preferences, style, or taste, and it's an important distinction to make. thank you for the wise words as always, man.

He said it! I just wish others were more in tune with themselves to realize some of these things on their own. You have to look into the mirror and self assess on a regular basis. Always question your motives

I like that you talk about this. I have been watching your video's for 2 years now and this video shows why. I don't like riding horses and I am not comfortable by the idea of riding an animal. Still, I respect your ways and perspectives on life. Most people can't see the difference between liking something and thinking something is good. You can like something that you think is bad and hate something that you think is good. I like listening to you and you have my respect.

It's not wrong because it's different.....It's only wrong when it's wrong. Thank you Sir for adding this one to my list of internal wisdom keepsakes...because it's right!
