  • @EbonySeraphim

    Just got my slew upgrade and really appreciated this tutorial. I wanted to emphasize that the calibration step is absolutely necessary which seemed counter intuitive to me (hobby game dev who has substantial experience programming for joystick devices). Out of the box, the new slew stick would send max/min values at a fraction of its travel (imagine the deflection you had on the stock TDC) and calibrating it fixes that.
    This upgrade feels amazing and I regret not doing this a lot sooner. I didn't even need this for the A-10C. The way the TGP works for that module I was OK just tuning the axis in DCS. BlackShark Skhval slew however was a different story. Even with axis tuning it was always either too fast or too slow at the extremes, inaccurate. or too sensitive around the center. After install the upgrade the A-10C was even more buttery smooth, and Ka-50 was massively improved. I'm actually able to fly at low speeds and slew onto targets at the same time. This means multiple Vihkr launches are possible in the same pass, or accurately gunning at multiple ground targets that are somewhat spread out without using boresight aiming.

  • @f15sim
    @f15sim 4 года назад +1

    The original slew control is a small force transducer. It outputs an x/y signal. It's the same one used in the F-15C. (I've got grip-envy over how easy it is to get into that throttle grip for repair. The real thing is a pain in the ass - the A-10 grip is nearly identical to the F-15C.) Also, be nice to the cat. :D

    • @thewarthogproject
      @thewarthogproject  4 года назад +1

      Deltasim actually make a proper force transducer replacement as well- although its much more expensive.

  • @BenedictTanShanWen
    @BenedictTanShanWen 5 лет назад

    My initial reaction was that it's expensive for a rewired analog stick but seeing that he went through the trouble of building a custom PCB with a microcontroller, nice sinter printed parts and included shipping in the price it's really good value. Guess I better look into updating my Hog's firmware first.
    That force sensing option is really tempting too!

    I haven't done this mod yet, and I'm not sure this will help with the TMW throttle hardware, but for self-tapping screws in general, I always turn them counterclockwise (or anti-clockwise, for youse European folks) until I feel a small "click", and then I screw 'er in, so to speak. That is in the interest of not stripping the threads of the hole. At any rate, THANKS for making this vid. This mod has been on my shopping list for a couple months.

    Great upgrade, great video ! If you want to make slew even smoother, you can increase dead zone and reduce Axis saturation (if you assigned it as axis in a first place), which kind of equals analog slew sensitivity. Slew is gonna be a bit slower (as you set it), but less jerky too. Can even try it with the bad old slew "nipple", before committing for an upgrade purchase. However, for me Windows own Controller calibration centers the nipple better, than Thrustmaster's calibration tool shown in the video to be honest. The latter always offsets the mini stick center a bit down for me.

  • @NeoMorphUK

    The internal build of the Warthog is pretty dodgy because most users don’t strip their sticks... but nearly all joysticks wiring is crappy (Saitek stuff is abysmal). The number of pinched wires I’ve found in joysticks over the years is horrifying. When I stripped the Warthog Joystick to sand the flashing off the joystick ball I hated all the crappy wiring and tidied it all up before reassembling. I use old style lacing cord to manage the wires.

    The only issue I had was that it was just still 8bit precision. Which is 256 points on an axis. Decided to make an arduino and a small usb hub PCB into the throttle. Works as a charm and on 16bits (−32,768 to 32,767 points) but this upgrade requires know how on soldering and a bit of programming to do.

And when i jump in a different aircraft all i need to do is click one button in helios and everything works! Have a look for a CaptZeen profile- i dont thin he has the F16 working yet but no doubt he will soon.

      Took a couple of months to get to me, only because the first was lost in the post. The seller was fantastic, thankfully he took my word for it and shipped a replacement out with the next run. About 2 weeks after that it arrived in Australia. He uses normal post, no express options available internationally due to cost.
