Golden knee tarantula trying to catch a cricket

  • My female Grammostola pulchripes is hungry, in this video she's trying to catch a couple of crickets. After the successful hunting she puts some web around (some nice close-ups there 03:20 04:10) and eats the catch in peace. This spider is one of the of the calmest, docile tarantulas I've encountered, highly recommended for beginners in the hobby. I love this spider. This time no music in the video, you can literally hear the force of the attacks. Enjoy.

    I always find it funny how crickets just sit there when I drop them in like "O.O ... >.> hmm, okay? ... I like it in here, just gonna go look over there." then takes like one step and my Curly violently kills it xD

      @reaperdan84 8 лет назад

      I took one that my A. Geniculata wouldn't eat (I think she might be in premolt atm) and dropped it in with my curly hair who molted just over a week ago and she killed it the second it hit the ground lol

    I find it best to remove anything that a cricket can hide under. My rose hair recently injured herself going after a cricket. A slight miss in judgment, she hit the side of her enclosure. I've noticed since she has a bit of a limp. Feeding tongs are a great help. The tongs can be used to hover the cricket just above your tarantula. When she takes notice simply release the cricket. If timing is right she wont have to go after it. Best bet for a wounded or older spider. Amazing video by the way, You've got one beautiful T.

  • @MaritsView
    @MaritsView 9 лет назад +7

    Spiders are beautiful it's just
    They are one of the most fluffiest animals in the world
    But it's just they don't look like a cute lil pig or like a puppy
    I think that's what makes us scared
    But the more l watch about them
    The less my fear gets
    But if this spider would have jumped on the camera
    I'd go like o___o
    But basically they are very calm and nice around us (mostly tarantulas) tarantulas are the calmest species of spiders around us
    And they all have beautiful different looks
    I love it!!

    • @DemonicaUjat
      @DemonicaUjat 8 лет назад

      +Marit I agree, tarantulas are very beautiful and fascinating animals. But for me, what makes them scary is the silk/web that they produce and how it feels. Maybe it's because of my ASD that some textures feels just not right to touch and the spider web is one of those things. The same goes for things like butter or oil. Touching it makes me scream. If it wasn't for the web i would love to have my own tarantula.

    • @MaritsView
      @MaritsView 8 лет назад

      DemonicaUjat Yeah there are actually very beautiful yes
      Some have amazing coats.
      But when they walk on you they're a little ticklish
      These animal are actually the really fluffy ones :P
      Imagine a horse with a winter coat
      It's just kind of the way how they look like.
      The reason what makes spiders a bit scary is the thing called ''The spider kill''
      The look a bit too.
      But there's so many dangerous types of bugs, insects,spiders.
      And yeah you don't wanna get bit by these
      But a tarantula watch out for this:
      if they would crawl on your face close your eyes because if they shove their hairs off their behind with their hind legs you can become blind
      But on your arms it's nice they can be really sweet. [They are calm species]
      And the bite feels like a bee bite not that nice either.. but not deadly

    Don't do it if you're not sure what you're doing. Spiderlings are fast and can be easily hurt. Don't disturb the spider for several days after molt. You can try and catch it when you think it's calm and manageable. The best way for the spider is to crawl on your hand on his own, you can also try and pick it up gently with a spoon. Good luck, be careful.

    ahaha, you can't cuddle them like kittens, they don't enjoy being handled, you can do it but it's not gonna make them happy or grateful. For me they are very good pets, because they don't smell, they demand very little attention (you can feed they once a week, or even a month) and just look beautiful whenever I decide to take a look at them...

    So all tarantulas cant see? why they have eyes? another question is: Its hands on their butts or just sticks that produce webs? sorry for my bad english.

    • @Chained2Alice
      @Chained2Alice  9 лет назад

      they do see, but has very poor eyesight. The 'hands' are in fact spinnerets. Spiders are famous for their ability to spin silk from their abdominal spinnerets.

    • @Chained2Alice
