I see Louis used a fix I messaged on stream live chat AND e-mailed him about a few months ago :-). Louis didn't believe me Dx. I've been having to re-flash the T2 chips on many machines to revive them after failed software updates, and to make Command + Option + R actually work right and install Catalina on a machine that came with Mojave or High Sierra out of the box. What a pain. About 95% of my cases have not involved losing data on the machine. The rest rendered the machine needing an OS re-install. Louis, for the DFU restore, once the Mac begins showing the Apple logo with the loading bar, then reboots and shows a loading bar with time remaining, you can unplug the USB/Thunderbolt cable. The machine does not need to be tethered to complete the pending OS update. Apple Configuration 2 doesn't get signaled that the T2 chip has actually rebooted with the LATEST firmware, and thus times out. Also... the charging cable the Mac comes with works fine as the DFU process runs over USB 2.0. You don't need to buy another cable. If Apple were smart, they would make the T2 chip be capable of re-flashing itself through Internet Recovery. So their machines don't brick like this. Or you know... do what everyone else does and have a read-only backup boot partition for booting off of in emergencies.
@@ΝίκοςΒουγογιαννόπουλος I know very little about why it happens. Other than it being caused by OS updates. Apple doesn't seem to have built in enough redundancy into the T2 chip to keep the issue from happening. I mean. Most modern BIOS have backup boot blocks in case of a bad flash.
