- Airport officials advise people coming through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to make sure all your luggage makes it to baggage claim. Authorities say keep an eye out for luggage thieves. Several were caught on security video taking people's bags.

That's why he still does this. This ends up being his "job." If nothing happens to him, or they just give him a small fine or slap on the back, once he leaves court he heads right back to the baggage claim.

Every time I pick up someone from airport I realize how easy it is to just go to baggage claim and take a bag. That whole area is out of security zones and anyone can walk in.

@@maryronan9758 No. Baggage claim is outside of the secure area, and is usually located at the major entry/ exit point of the airport.

You say this one thief has been caught 20 times stealing luggage and then at the end you how severely punished you'll be, if you can do it 20 times where you get caught and are still on the street it is pretty hard to consider that punished at all.

Some airports allow you to meet your guest at the baggage claim for Domestic Flights
Put a GPS tracker into your each of your luggage your checking in. (Ex: tile , AirTag)

embed a tracking device in your luggage. or buy luggage that's a very bright color

I can't stand people who steal, I have had things stolen from me and it does not feel good.
How's in charge: A theft has rob luggages numerous time and is still free to do it again???????? Something wrong somewhere.
I started putting a tracker in my luggage so if it goes missing I can find culprit easily at airport/garage.
The airport should be held liable for this. Every major airport has measures in place to prevent exactly this. Sue the airport.
I get scared to pick my own luggage from the Airport . I hesitate not to pick someone else by mistake.

It's been this way at Los Angeles International Airport for as long as I can remember. Plenty of baggage thefts there. If you're not arriving from an international flight, where you retrieve your luggage before exiting, don't lollygag in the terminal once you leave the airplane (unless you didn't check-in any bags). Head directly to the baggage claim area. Get there before your luggage comes off the belt.

There used to be security attendants at the Atlanta airport baggage claim area verifying bags matched the passenger - you needed to show that little sticker they gave you when you checked your bag at the boarding airport. Lived there for 20 years flying in and out of that airport all the time and we all knew to make sure to hang on to that sticker so we could get our luggage.

Blame the Airlines they charge you top dollar but they do not want to pay to ensure your luggage gets to you safely. They cutting on the staff that can do these checks ✔.
They just advertised that there is no ticket bag match at this airport so luggage can be easily stolen...wonder if the theft there will increase now LOL

That's why I always travel with carry on luggage and one smaller bag, that stays with me. I avoid check in for that reason.

I travel often. Sometimes, its impossible to beat your bags to the carousel. Especially if people are slow to deplane or the customs lines are long. This is really disappointing.
Obviously being a federal building does not matter if this man had done so many times before and got off with it.

You have enough time to get your ass to baggage claim so that no one steals your luggage, but i think Grimes has a friend working in baggage at the airport. The reason I say this is; those items were alone on that conveyer belt. The owner was probably not there to receive them because they went to go find out why their luggage hadn't come up on the belt. So while the owner is going back to the airline gate to see why their luggage hasn't come off the plane, the baggage handlers are sending their luggage to Mr Grimes.

We spent 5 years in 9 European countries.. baggage area security was always present. Our daughter left her iPhone in a public restroom at Frankfurt airport, it was turned in by a nice man to security. Security tracked her down in Memphis from Germany and after verifying it was hers, shipped it to her at no cost. Try that here.

Very sad. I haven’t lost anything from something like this and I travel a lot. But I avoid even transferring in the USA. Some places and countries don’t have so many thieves. And/ or they have better security

This is ridiculous. How come someone from outside enter the baggage claim section of an airport? At the Zurich airport, it's only returning passengers that have access to that place. No one can enter that place, except you work 'in' the airport.
Never allow such things to happen in our airports-. Need strict rules and regulations to protect the safety of the belongings of the passengers.

@@drunbekannt11 baggage claim areas aren’t beyond the security check points in many airports. You can walk in, go directly to a carousel, and walk right out and into a car waiting at the curb for pickup.
i do not understand something. If the luggage thief has been arrested many times before, for stealing luggage from the airport, how is he able to keep stealing luggage, over and over again. I would expect that he would be in jail
Baggage carousels must have an attendant and the tickets MUST be presented.
I suspected that all along, bags are just left alone. If anyone gets my bags, they will find my dirty laundry. Only keep expensive item in a carryon.

They gave us a reciet in Buffalo but after landing in Las Vegas all our luggage was stolen.

I remember that years ago all travelers leaving the airport have to show their bag's claim ticket to a security guard at the gate. He checked it against the one on each bag. Today anyone can retrieve any bag from the carrousel and just exit the building. One time I was waiting like one hour until I realized my bag was retrieved from the carrousel and placed in the lobby area. Perhaps it was by error and it was just left on the floor while I was waiting and waiting.
Getting through immigration takes time for International Travellers so there should be some safety measures for check in baggage for such flights 🙏🏼

When I go to airports I stay far away from other people's luggage as much as possible, because I don't want to accidentally touch it ,then boom contraband in it and airport security think it's mine .
