  • As air travel bounces back from the pandemic, luggage theft is on the rise in America.
    According to a recent report from the Department of Transportation, the number of delayed or lost bags rose to six out of 1,000 bags in February, up from five out of 1,000 the same time last year, showing that as more people travel, baggage theft is rising.

    A tip to protect your items from theft in your checked luggage: open your empty suitcase and put an open bedsheet in it. Then put your items on top of the sheet, wrap everything and make a knot before closing your suitcase. Baggage handlers can open the zipper of your case behind the scenes with a pencil, even if it has a lock. They have only a few seconds to reach inside and grab stuff so if the items are wrapped inside a knotted bedsheet they will close the suitcase and move on to the next.

    Take a photo before closing your bag and write down what's inside your bag. 😊

      It has to be checked like that to have his/ her luggages and get out of the airport - This method will be the best BUT the airport businesses are too cheap to do that!🙊😂😢😠😡🤬

    I flew delta to Italy and arrived at delta’s hub in Atlanta to make another connecting flight. We got stuck on the runway for 1/2 hour and had to run to make our connecting flight. Of course our checked in luggage didn’t make it. Mine along with half the plane didn’t have luggage arriving in Italy. It took more than a week to finally find our luggage. Meanwhile, our vacation meant we had to spend a lot of time running around Italy finding clothes and things like toothbrushes etc.

    Jail the thieves so other would-be thieves will refrain from thievery

    My bags...BOTH WERE LOST by Swiss Air from Newark (NJ) to Italy (Florence) w stop in Swizerland. It took 4 days to find them. My sister had her bag lost a month before - same route. Took 2 and a half days. Irritating. Worst part is, there were at least 10 to 15 people in Florence from differing flights w same issue. There we were, looking thru hundreds of bags. No one in Florence could give a sh*t. Thank goodness i had my meds, valuables and changes of clothing in carry on.

    Good tips, I already use all of them. About a “million” years ago, there used to be airport/airline people comparing bag tags with claim checks or ID. They should reinstitute that. Also, lock your suitcase, some bag handlers are also thieves. While it doesn’t stop them, they will usually go for the easier unlocked target. As far as carryon bag check, I always carry a foldable bag with me. I only pack my must haves/valuable in carryon and check the rest. The last time I had to gate check, I pretty much emptied my carryon, and I stuffed the soft bag in the overhead bin 😂 Gate checks are usually not lost, because most are put in a the storage plane-side. (Disclaimer: I used to work at SFO and attended the airport security meetings)

    The conveyor belt is always placed right next to the exits. How hard is it to walk out with luggage?

    All valuables (medications, ids, hearing aids, extra glasses) are in my personal carry on.
    Only laundry, old clothes, old slippers, food, sanitizer are actually in my small luggage. Once there, I can toss most clothing even before returning since they are old.😅

    Hi ! - Where to buy a "luggage tracker " to be left in the luggage ?

    • @dannynguyen2050
      @dannynguyen2050 Год назад +3

      apple airtags work well assuming you have an iphone. Luggage with built in trackers are expensive and are usually aren't allowed due to the battery size and type not allowed to be checked in.

      @@dannynguyen2050 Unfortunately, everyone who recommends luggage tracker only know of Apple products. Would you happen to know of something for Androids?

    • @dannynguyen2050
      @dannynguyen2050 Год назад +1

      @@SmileAlwayz tile trackers would be the next bet but even though they have better range, would only be useful if you were trying to find them in luggage pickup.
      Best option would be to buy a cheap iphone 11 or newer to get precise tracking with compass with the Apple’s U1 chip. Otherwise you would just get a map ping of the location.
      Main issue with trackers if pinging, iphones are very common and it will ping off other iphone users so you will have the best chance of tracking it down.

    I am an expat living in Central America. For years, I have traveled around the world, with only a carry-on, and a leather briefcase. You pay the luggage fee, yet have no guarantee that you will receive your luggage, or it's contents! Also, most often you can buy items in other countries, much cheaper.

    Especially in California...The factors? baggage thieves get a slap in bu++, gets probation even if they already stolen hundred of baggages. Video cameras in every belt and baggage check when exiting as a good suggestion not mentioned at all? Some of us have to go to the toilet as we don't like to have a mess in our clothes, some of us through confusion went to to the wrong baggage rail, etc.
