  • I'm in San Francisco, California for this week's video, where I'm photographing the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. After a bike ride from Fisherman's Wharf, over the bridge to Sausalito, I get the return ferry to the mainland and head back to the bridge for sunset. There are some epic conditions as fog drifts in front of the bridge, lit from behind by the setting sun.

Cheers Ant - I was worried I wouldn't be able to see the bridge at all when the fog started rolling in. It cleared just enough to make a decent shot though. Thanks for giving it a watch. 😊

One of my favourite locations (I visited there whilst on honeymoon back in 1999). Liked the moody black and white shots of the bridge.

Cheers Russ. I imagine a lot has changed since 1999. It was very expensive, and there is a serious homelessness problem. I hope they can do something to sort that out. From a photography point of view though, it's fantastic - so many interesting nooks and crannies! Thanks for watching. 😊

Love your bridge shots. The mist/cloud was perfect for the moody look. Well done on a lovely video.

Thanks. Yes, I was a little worried it might totally obscure the bridge at first, but luckily cleared enough to add a dramatic touch. Thanks for watching. 😊

Excellent images mate. The fog/mist coming in on the bridge really set it apart from a dull bridge image. Looks like your having a fantastic trip.

Yeah, I think the fog is almost as iconic as the bridge, so I guess it was good I got some. Back now, but it was amazing, thanks. Cheers for watching. 😊

Iconic spot Robert and looked an amazing bike ride and back across on the ferry for sunset. Wonderful images my favourite ones being the Misty images of the bridge. A great video to whet the appetite for Yosemite and really looking forward seeing that one. Sure you had a great time and all the best mate 👍🏻

Fantastic! A North America break...hope all was splendid! It has been since 1989 the last time I was in San Fran. I am glad to see that you were able to experience the fog! lol Love it! Bruce and Otis

That's cool Bruce, did you get any fog back in 1989?! I won't blame you if you can't remember! 😜 SF was great, but the highlight of the trip was Yosemite. Just too bad we couldn't take our Otis. Cheers for watching. 😊

@@Robert-Bishop LOL...I'm old, and certainly purposely forget some things, but I do remember that we got nothing but sunshine in SF when there...actually was there as the MC of our school's touring gymnastics group doing a west coast tour and visiting school on an anti-drug campaign. I bet Otis was sure happy to see your return.

Cheers mate. I would definitely recommend it - amazing for photography although it is a bit pricey right now. Partly to do with the pound being rubbish at the moment though. Still playing catch up since I got home but looking forward to seeing what's been happening on your channel while I've been away. 😊

Hi Robert , looks like you had a great day starting off with the cycle ride and a trip back on the ferry with the images at the end was great. The fog really added some mood to the images really liked them the image at 6:50 with the light coming through the fog and hitting the side of the sailboat is a really nice image that, looking forward to seeing more from your transatlantic trip !

Great Video Robert, looks like you are having a great time in the USA, SF bay looks very hazy, the Fog looks great! 04:58 beautiful, a classic GG bridge image, well done 07:28 very moody and beautiful, I bet it took some patience and thinking to get that image the balance beautiful the shore line/waves take your eye back to the left, then the bridge takes your eye across the bay (and in the fog!) 08:21 wow who would have thought a mist clad tower! stunning! thanks for sharing

Thanks Tony. Yes, I did like the fact that this location allowed for the inclusion of the beach and rocks - something that's not possible from the main viewing point. Many thanks, as always, for giving it a watch. 😊

Great video, Robert! Your photos of the bridge were fantastic. I have never been to California so It was great to see all the different perspectives that you shot. I loved the black and white at 8:22. I am really looking forward to seeing your other videos and photos from the trip.

really enjoyed it. glad you got to experience all of it including the bike ride over to Sausalito. It's a classic! I'm curious from a production stand point what you are using to capture your BTS video , and audio. It's all very seamless and seeing the nice video shots of like the birds, etc. are wonderful.

Thanks Allen, a lot of the credit needs to go to my better half, Andrea. For this trip she was using a Sony ZV-1, and I'm mic'd up with Rode wireless receivers and lav microphone. I do the editing with Adobe Premiere. Thanks for watching. 😊

Stunning shots Robert, sunset was worth the wait even if the fog didn't lift it made for some great moody images. I liked the shot where the sun was hitting the sails of the yacht as it passed under the bridge. Of the other images the sticker covered sign, yep that would have been something I'd have taken too, I love stuff like that. I didn't say it last time but congratulations on passing 4k subscribers.

Cheers Andrew. Yeah, like Paul said, the fog is kind of synonymous with SF, so I guess I needed that in the image anyway. And yes, thanks, really chuffed with the 4k. 😊

First and foremost, congratulations on going over 4K subs!!! Awesome achievement and well deserved! Great video Robert! Actually I'm glad that you got the fog, it's such an iconic part of the Golden Gate Bridge as well as San Francisco. Some of the best photos of the bridge for me are of the bridge in the fog, and that beauty of yours at 8:20 is no exception! Loved that one. I think you did well to get other images outside of the usual ones taken there - loved the sailboat one as well! Great 1st video, looking forward to the rest of the series! Have a great Sunday over there!

Thanks Paul - very pleased to have hit 4k. I was a bit worried at first that the bridge would be too obscured, but I think you're right, the fog adds something. My only regret is that I didn't take an ND filter. I couldn't get a slow enough shutter speed with the polariser, and it would have been nice to really smooth out both the water and the fog on some shots. Oh well, it's an excuse to go back! Thanks for watching mate. 😊

I am going to SF in a few weeks time. How safe is it to take mirrorless cameras for photography in these tourist. spots? Do tourists have cameras with them there ? I mostly do these type of photography , urban architecture, etc. Any help would be helpful. Thanks

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Год назад

I didn't have any issues, but there are a lot of drug related problems so theft is something to be wary of. I walked around with my camera in my hand during the day (I have a wrist strap to avoid any grab and run incidents), but there are certain areas, particularly at night where you might not want to have it on show. It's a fantastic city for photography though, so have a great time! 😊
