I watched this coming home from London on Wednesday, trying to hide the tears from the rest of the train. It has taken a dude riding a bike on the internet to help me work out what is 'wrong' with me...and it already feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
Been following BvG for years and 44T since the beginning, living the lifestyle vicariously has helped me up out of the fog more than once!
All the best for your continued recovery Chris and keep up the good work...

It took me 2 hours to finish watching this video. Every few sentences I paused the video and reflected upon my current mental state. I'm having difficulty putting my thoughts together as I'm typing this comment. I need help and have been reluctant to talk to someone about it. Maybe because I think nobody would understand, or that they would laugh at my problems, or that I'm embarrassed to be so vulnerable and open about my feelings, or it could be several other things that have been preventing me to seek help. Most times I'm a normal functioning adult, but there are times when I don't even want to move. I make people think I'm happy and going about my merry life, but the truth is I'm struggling. I've pushed people away, good people, people who at every opportunity have selflessly helped me. Thank you for helping me get some clarity on my mental state.

The thing about injustice really struck a chord with me. It's everywhere, and whenever you get visibly frustrated or even angry about it, people around you seem baffled like there's something wrong with you. Maybe if more of us would be angry about things like that, the world wouldn't suck so much. I guess it's not obvious to most people.

God Chris, I wrote a rant on this the other day on one of my blogs just to get all this stuff off my chest. I’ve suffered with depression and anxiety for years. Got a hold of it for quite a few years but the last couple of years (covid, relationship issues) has brought it all back and I’m trying to get a hold of it. For me Gym at home works plus riding bikes but half the time I sit here looking at my garage of bikes and can’t even be arsed to ride them. Mornings are always the worst but if I exercise then later in the day I get motivated but wake up the next morning struggling again.
Anyway, just to say these videos of yours are great to watch and I’m sure help a lot of people. I’m jealous you’re in the Cotswolds, I used to live there before I got stuck out here in the Philippines (no it’s not a paradise). I miss back home but am trying to make the most of things out here.
Totally agree about ‘conspiracy stuff’ , I went down that rabbit hole and just try not to think about it too much now because it’s bloody depressing.
Enjoy the GS, I’ve got my Africa Twin which I feel the same about as your GS.

I don't lift anymore (I'm starting again soon, promise) but packing a load of muscle on my genetically skinny frame made a world of difference. It didn't cure my anxiety but it got rid of most of it. I felt like people treated me differently, I was no longer intimidated about interacting with strangers. I was a nervous wreck the first time I went to the gym, soon after it became I place I enjoyed, a place I felt comfortable. I think seeing the progression of that, plus the rewards of my exercise, made an absolute life changing difference. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Hard not to fall into a depression when you have an objective view and can connect the dots regarding the real intentions of the facist flu that was going round. 10 yrs ago my wife's brother was murdered. Then, last year in December, my wife's sister was murdered. You can imagine the depths of depression one would go through with situations like that.
I've been riding for about 7 yrs now so I bought another motorcycle and taught her how to ride. Now we ride together on a daily basis and it's really helped her with anxiety/depression. She actually thanked me and said it saved her life!

The doctor explained to me what happens when your level are to low, i advice you to read about how low testosterone level affects your body and brain. Also read about too low levels of vitamine D. I think theese two levels are someting that should be checked before the doctor subscribes happy pills like Escitalopram and so on, but they usually don't. Of course this isn't the cause for everyone, but it's just a blood test so no harm in checking right.

Chris, the last 4 years have been a misery and I never believed in depression until one day I realised I am getting less and less happy for no reason, and I started realising what people were referring to when they spoke about depression and anxiety.
I can not get up in the mornings, its the worst in the mornings, by far! All I want to do is go back to bed and be unproductive and shy away from the world (I use to be a huge extrovert). I feel physically sick and feel like I constantly have to vomit in the mornings because of the anxiety, sometimes I actually do vomit.
Im 33, and healthy, but man, this shit is real. Once I am up and about eventually after snoozing a lot, things are not as bad. (Your tip to get up and immediately do something is really hard, but very good).
I understand now what it feels like, to be sad and unhappy for no particular reason. I am actually considering deleting all social media apps and not watching any news as I believe all the media bullshit and constant social media exposure has a lot to do with depression these days, even if you don't realise it, it creeps in.
Thank you for your advice and chatting to us. I tend to also push people away during these moments in my life, even when I have no reason to do so.
We must talk to one another, even if its to someone just to listen to, one doesn't always need immediate advice. Just need someone to listen and hear you out. I realise chatting to older, wiser men or women, can help with this stuff. People you can trust.
Cheers mate. Great to hear your voice again and the bike in the background and sharing with us. You will help other people by talking about this. Thank you.

Hey man, I am 33 also and in my mid 20s I believe I was suffering with depression which had slowly crept up on me over the corse of 3/4 years. It got to a point where something had to change, I hated my job(courier) I had a lot of stress with my mum who was bed bound suffering with chronic fatigue syndrome, my wonderful partner who I am still with was ready for children and I just could not deal with it all, so we made some big changes, we moved back down south to where we grew up, although it wasn’t a lot we both stopped smoking weed, I started a new profession which I still love ( landscaping)! I stopped paying Any attention to the news or anything that I could not do anything about! The key is getting rid of the shit regardless to what it is! shit friends! Shit jobs! Shit food etc etc AND the number 1 rule is you have to want to be happy and you have to tell yourself that you WANT to be happy, you have to take note of the small things that bring you joy like birds tweeting outside your window or the smell of freshly cut grass in the summer! Or the leaves turning in autumn!
I feel deeply for anyone going through it and I can tell you without any bs, if you have the necessary knowledge and want to be happy you can do it as I have!!, changes and outlooks have to be made full stop! It’s no joke! I can no longer remember or feel the horrible feelings that I felt! I feel content and satisfied and I fully understand that we are alive for a short period of time and we have to live it the best way we can!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Chris. I lost my wife this last week or so after her battles with anxiety and depression. Anyone who met her would never suspect as on the surface she was so warm and loving.
I hope this video helps anyone feeling this way as it is so hard to spot, and if you have never suffered yourself, so hard to understand. As you said, this is an illness, and not something to be embarrassed about. Talk to friends, talk to family, talk to your GP. As long as you talk to someone and reach out. I can be controlled, but not on your own.

I too lost my wife to anxiety and depression and she as she went about her day no one would never suspect she had issues. She was a medical professional, and could not let that cat out of the bag. I of course was ostrisized for letting it happen by her family. And it has taken a toll on me as well. I have hardened a fair bit but now keep to myself. Its been over ten years and am still alone. Although I have my own family for support if needed. I wouldnt normally comment on such things but you letter got me thinking and writing. Therapy. Time for a ride on my MOto. Thanks.

Can absolutely vouch for walking. It is the best thing in my life.
Earlier this year ('22) I took up hiking, just once a week on a weekend, about 10 miles or so, and this helped me feel even better. Especially at this crappy time of year (winter), it's actually something to look forward to and a good way to work your way through it week by week.
After about the first month or two I started to notice a very positive change in my general mood and overall productivity. After about 3 months I went and climbed Scafell Pike, and now planning Snowdon for early next year.
It's not a click your fingers and be happy kind of thing, there's a little bit of effort and work required, but you have to take that first step towards making yourself feel better.

Thanks for these videos Chris. It's genuinely appreciated talking about anxiety/depression issues. I know for myself, I have had a fucker of a year so far. As someone from Scotland who now lives in the USA I was recently diagnosed with a form of cancer and having gone through all the treatments I received the medical bills ($114,000+) I am praying that my medical insurance covers most of it. I missed a month of work as a result and then when something simple as my car breaking down (needed a new battery, that's all) I felt as though the world was coming down on me and I almost cried in despair.
(BTW I'm not about to hit you up for money! Lol) I'll be fine in the end.

Thanks for talking about such person thoughts and feelings in your life Chris . I've struggled for many years with anxiety , depression and at times some very dark thoughts as well and the trouble with anxiety it even makes you worry about telling someone or even asking for help incase they don't understand or believe you 😳 although since covid and lockdown restrictions , mental health has been highlighted more but I'm yet to take that first step for proper help to be honest .

    Hey Chris,
I commented on your 44T where you started this conversation. Obviously, or not, I'm quite proud of you. I have similar but very different issues. Bad motorbike accident 4 years ago. PTSD, massive anxiety. Issues dealing with people. Restricted my circle of people to 2. Two people I can trust to not fk me up. This year has been amazing for me. Therapy with the right therapist. Working out the people that were negatively affecting me,
Before Christmas I chose to drop the main person that was breaking me. That actually was my mother.
Doing that has made me able to focus on myself and look after myself. I have made great progress this year and the main gig is about looking after yourself. I couldnt do it while i was massively stressed.
I am much better now with the help of the right people.
If I can help you in this campaign you just have to let me know.
I have been through the mill and I think I am breaking through to the other side.
I would love to give you the biggest hug in the world.
Then get very drunk and talk absolute shit.
    Love you.

Very honest, thought provoking and helpful video, Chris. I've noticed, not just from the people who watch our adventures but also as a leadership and sales trainer, that behind the tough veneer of many directors, CEOs and hardened bikers, there are often many of the feelings you mentioned (and a significant increase over the last couple of years). Whilst I can often encourage the people I work closely with to open up and accept some help, many sadly still see depression - and all of the associated, debilitating symptoms - as weaknesses and don't feel able to ask for support - medical or otherwise. Thank you for being brave enough to discuss this. Hopefully it will encourage others to 'torque'🙂👍

Your getting somethings absolutely right. And this darkness is whatever it is.
Im in my sixtys and have been through this condition. With that said, it's nothing new to mankind. All the thing's Your doing that are helping are thing's Jesus christ taught me through the righteous written word's in the Bible. There's no magic pills that can sustain us. Most evangelical Christians still need to figure it out. Life was impossible, and now that ive surenderd to be faithful it's still very hard. It's like the seasons, and sometimes it's a long winter. But if i truly pray and ask for the better choice and focus on what is inportent thing's in the mind and heart do get to the self control that one of the closest flowers of GOD'S Son was like. Even all true followers need the part of them that the death on the cross opened up to all mankind.
A supernatural deposit that only GOD can supply. He's called the holy spirit.
Father GOD, HIS SON, and the holy spirit have been working together. The deposit is the HOLY SPIRIT. Many born again Christians haven't even found the thing's your figuring out. God's favor is drawing you as HE did with me. Keep making good choices and find a good pastor and get saved like i did forty years ago.
      Choose well

Chris, I've just caught up with this video. And my word, absolutely brilliant. I've gone through a torrid time work wise, being chucked out 'due to covid' etc which is a load of arse. And since struggled to find meaning and worth in my life, the feelings of guilt that I've let my family down have been massive and I still wrestle with that everyday.
Not to mention that, because of my previous job and the daft 'normal' hours working in the media dept of a professional sports club brought, I sold my bike as I couldn't get out on it and thought it would be better to let someone else enjoy it as I couldn't. It's something I absolutely beat myself up for now, as I can't afford a new (to me) bike and I so regret it.
However, watching this has definitely made me feel better, I went out for a walk with a friend for an hour and feel so much better. Keep up the good work pal. Love it.

Out the other side years later. Piles of motovloggers later and getting ready to purchase my sons HD Ultra Classic from him to start my journey.
My eternal thanks for your creation of magical content .

Thanks for sharing this, I think this mental health issue is much more common than anyone realizes. Takes courage to share.

Ahhhh you’re back!!! I’m sorry to hear what you’ve been through. Ironically your videos were the things keeping me going through my years of surgeries and post surgery depression. I bumped into you at loomies once but wasn’t able to fully tell you how much I appreciate it! So from myself a big thankyou Baron 🤘

Baron that last bit about the tube, man that hits home hard, probably the best way anyone has ever described it! I think what you want to do with the stickers is an amazing idea, and you have already helped so many people with this channel be it in the past when you took your gixer offroad until now, without even realising it! We are all behind you and hopefully you find a way to heal from all this!!

Went straight on to 44t to order one. I watch your old videos when I feel like shit sometimes. Makes me feel less alone. Thank you for all you've done and continue to do.

Thank you so much for making this vid, I ordered a sticker immediately after watching this.
I have struggled for a few years with Anxiety more than depression and after 1st lockdown I went out on my bike for what was supposed to be a chilled ride, completely broke down in tears on the side of the road and soaked the inside of my skid lid.
Since then it's been really extreme at times, can't eat or sleep and worry about the most stupid of things.
I started cycling the 4 miles each way to work in April '20 and it helps massively.
Reading these comments is also really helpful.
    Thank you again.

The less you do, the less you want to do. Idle hands are the devil's workshop. ;)

Knowing that you suffer from the same thing as me....really makes me feel better. I really need to go to bed earlier and change my morning routine. Thank you for this video. Honestly, thank you.
