  • Hi all!!!
Back again but this time with a sound compilation of ALL my Scientific American 1878 tinfoil phonograph recordings (well the ones I digitized at least LOL!) made between April 2012- May 2014. Some are played back at different speeds. I hope you are able to hear all of them! These were all recorded in South Africa and some were used in my Cape Town presentation. Welcome to the world of "LO-FI"!!! :-) This is my very first tinfoil "playlist" haha! Charlie, this is dedicated to YOU! :-) CHEERS!! Clink-clink!
    01. "MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB", as tinfoil recording is being recorded (REC. 5 MAY 2012)
    00:00-00:15
    02. "MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB", the same tinfoil recording is reproduced (3 different speeds) (Rec. 5 May 2012)
    00:18-01:12
    03. Counting "1 to 10" and "NKOSI SIKELEL' IAFRIKA" [A segment of the South African National Anthem] (Rec. 11 May 2012) [This appears a bit soft as it was recorded in a very large storage room and the sound disappeared into the roof! It was recorded on the film evening of Archives Week where the Scientific American 1878 tinfoil phonograph was "premiered"!]
    01:18-01:46
    04. "MARY MARY, QUITE CONTRARY" (2 different speeds) (Rec 12 June 2012)
    01:51-02:35
    05. "A-E-I-O-U AND Y" (Vowel sounds) (Rec 12 June 2012)
    02:40-03:02
    06. "HI! I AM STANDING HERE WITH SOLID GROUNDS" [South African DJ]; Solid Ground's reply "I AM THE GREATEST DJ IN SOUTH AFRICA"; and my
"MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB, IT'S FLEECE WAS WHITE AS SNOW!" (2 different speeds) (Rec. Sep. 2012 at the annual Moshito Music Conference)
    03:07-04:05
    07. "TEST TEST TEST! TESTING...TESTING 1, 2, 3" and my friend, Tinus's reply "OH MY GOODNESS!" (3 different speeds) (Rec. Nov. 2012)
    04:09-05:14
    08. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH..."[TEST TONE]; "HELLO THIS IS CHRISTOPHER, VIVA SOUTH AFRICA VIVA!" followed by one of the school kids reply "CHRISTOPHER!... HELLO / VIVA[?] THIS IS BONGANI!" [Recorded during Archives Week 2013]
    (3 different speeds) (Rec. May 7 2013)
    05:19-06:31
    09. "RRRRRRRRRR!" [TRILLED R'S TEST TONE]; "PEOPLE OF THE WORLD" (It took years to actually identify the song as "You Are Not Alone" - love song by Michael Jackson sung by 2 Black African teenage boys / school boys); followed by me "ARCHIVES WEEK 2013!"
    (3 different speeds) (Rec. May 8 2013)
    06:35-07:59
    010. "RRRRRRRRRR!"[TRILLED R'S TEST TONE]; VARIOUS SCHOOL KIDS (This recording is mostly unintelligible as I failed to write down what they recorded LOL!; some spoke in one of the many African languages - the last kid yelled loud enough so you can hear "MY NAME IS MOGADI!")
(3 different speeds) (Rec. May 8 or 9 May 2014)
    08:04-09:21
I believe this may be the very first EVER Scientific American 1878 Tinfoil American hitlist compiled! LOL! I modeled it on the Leon Scott de Martinville 1857-1861 playlist of his phonautograph recordings! So it's NOT just "Mary Had A Little Lamb"!!! I tried to capture all a tinfoil phonograph was capable of recording like recitations, singing, nursery rhymes, etc.!
Btw, here is a link to the original PowerPoint presentation I did in Cape Town, South Africa in July 2014 and October 2017 on the work done on my construction of the 1878 Scientific American tinfoil Phonograph! It took 23 years just to BUILD a tinfoil phonograph!!
