Washington D.C.'s the Dismemberment Plan return after more than ten years of studio album silence, but this latest release of there's feels like a less peppy and eccentric version of their former selves.

Emergency and I changed my life. Every aspect of the album from the musicianship to the lyricism is just pitch perfect to me.
this album wasn't very good. i hope they either get their shit back together or just quit making music
Like Travis Morrison's solo work during the D-Plan breakup, this album left me bored and wanting more. D-Plan was a band I listened to daily for years, and I can't bring myself to listen to this. Gone is the grit and dirt. Travis was such a great writer that he had a way of taking an incredibly depressing song, and making it so upbeat and infectious that you couldn't help but smile. That was the beauty of D-Plan: depressing music that still made you feel good. This album doesn't have it.
I just saw them live, and I can say that these songs really come alive in person. Especially the drumming. I was a little meh on some of these songs beforehand.
The Plan's the best live band I have ever seen, so I recommend seeing them if you can.

dude why didn't you put more focus on the lyrics? "i'm like a fat guy on drugs/ drownin' in hugs" jesus christ worst lyrics I've heard this year especially coming from fucking travis morrison, one of the most prolific lyricists (or at the very least well-beloved) of the late 90's... To me, it is as big as of a shift from Pinkerton to the Green Album lyrically, and that's what really makes it shit, to see a great band fall. Also: why no scores on short reviews?

Totally agree. Was horribly disappointed by this. Loved 'Change' (more than E&I) and still do. Such a drag, seeing how kick-ass other reunion albums (MBV, Polvo, ...) have been this year.
This whole thing hurts my feelings. The trust that is put into this man hurts my feelings as well.
this is a fantastic album. its got the goofy vibe like their first two albums but with the matured instrumentation of "change". this is top notch d-plan... and is quickly becoming my favorite from them (previously my heart belonged to "is terrified")

i was kinda cringing at lets just go to the dogs at first but i accepted that it was gonna be the way it is at some point while listening to it and it's been my favorite track on the album since
did you get little bit of a "battles" vibe on the synths in some of these tracks? good review, I think the first 3 tracks are really good tough, standouts for sure
I love how you actually spell "Uncanny" correctly, unlike how the band purposely spells it.
I think it's certainly a grower. A step back from Change and Emergency, but not horrible.
