The One Thing People Neglect When Trying To Play Faster
For lessons contact: Lestermitchellguitarist@gmail.com
Hey guys! Hope you are having a killer day out there. Today I'm going to be discussing the most neglected part of playing faster, besides the metronome. Watch the entire video and reach out if you have any questions!
Let me know what you guys think!
No matter how long you've been playing guitar, nothing will replace a good ol' metronome picking exercise 🎸👍
So true! I've learned that the hard way when I tried soloing over a generic G D Em C chord pattern. I had a lot of ideas to throw in some fast licks but I just couldn't nail the timing. And then it hit me, the metronome wasn't part of my practice routine. Ouch!
Effective practice and dedication is key to productive results!!!!
True!
This is maybe the best you tube lesson I have seen great advice you deserve more subs man thanks for the exercises!
That means a lot to me dude! Thanks for watching!
@@LesterMitchell For sure. If you would do more of these, that would be great.
Thanks Lester. I really appreciate the time you put into this to help us....❤❤
You're welcome Mitch!
Always great to hear you teaching, my friend!
Thanks Craig!
When I used to teach, I would step back even further than that, and start students off without even touching the guitar. I'd introduce them to timing by having them "drum" with both hands. Example, start with the "kick" (right hand) hitting quarter notes, then hitting the "snare" (left hand) on 2 and 4, etc.
Yeah timing is definitely important. I'm a big believer in metronome work. Especially when I taught drums. It helped me a lot in that aspect. Though there's already videos on timing in excess (including on my channel). This is more focused on what people don't realize in simple mechanical changes.
@@LesterMitchell Yeah, I guess I should've clarified, I was talking about coordination between left and right hand, which you address in your video here.
I think when people say they want to play faster, what they really mean is they want to learn how to cross strings faster…cuz thats the hang up…or I may be totally wrong 🫤….great stuff as always brother!!!!
Thanks my dude! String crossing is a big issue as well but a separate issue.
Great Video and love the honesty.
Thank you my dude!
Man, you have skills.
Thanks a lot my dude!
Hey Lester, are you playing 16th notes when you shred? It sounds faster.
Hey my friend! I tend to cycle between 16th note triplets and 32 to 64th notes on my faster runs.
@@LesterMitchell Ok, I figured it had to be faster than 16th's.
I usually practice with the drum machine from my Zoom G1X FOUR . What will you recommend best ???
That's cool! Drum machines are great. Though it's best to work with a metronome as well.
Attention people that want to play fast: do what he says! There is no magic short cut. Practice.
Thanks shred master! 🎸
Hey Lester in another video. You said something about learning the A major scale in 7 positions. Where can I find that information?
Hey my dude! Here's a free download link to the 7 positions of the C major scale off my store.

@@LesterMitchell Thanks, man!
@@LesterMitchell Hey Lester, I downloaded the
7 3nps Major Scale Patterns in C
Which is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. positions? They seem to run altogether.
@@dwaynelasater2350 Hey dude! The shapes start on the 6th string. Once it reaches the 1st string, that shape is complete. Then it starts back on the 6th string for the next shape.
@LesterMitchell Oh I see now. And I'm assuming there would be 7 positions for say A. B. D,E,F,G, right?.
