Man I am so happy to relive this round of golf with my buddy. I had an amazing time and can’t wait to see you back in Tucson. Love you man and we miss you and your lovely wife.
My favorite tour info is putting.. Because as you said once, " this is where we can be as good as a professional." Playa, you are so right.. Wadda course!
dunno, I'm pretty impressed. Your round made it look like there's no trouble on that course -- quite a feat! Also, Luis sounds like the perfect playing companion -- great fella!
Really just shows how hard the game actually is. On tv we mostly just get the highlights where its always the best shots. And those shots are even more impressive knowing that even the pros can't hit them all the time. Lowering my expectations for a round has helped me mentally and actually score better.
@@grantbeck9228 I can see that getting a bit old after a while - agreed. Same in Thailand. Some times I just want to escape to a treelined forest course with bent greens, 25°C temperatures, kikuyu grass fairways and rough, pretty much south african courses. But then I get there, and I want to get back to Thailand. Then I dream of the desert courses. Then I play them for 10 rounds and wanna come back to Thailand courses. Waddahobby
I dont think this is really a stat but their ability to scramble it amazing to me how they can be 25 yards away from the fairway and have 200 in on a par 4 and still make par somehow. Always thought that was incredible.
20-10-8 Rule. My favorite cause I’m tough on myself when it comes to chipping. From 20 yards out in the rough, with at least 10 feet of green to work with, 50% of Tour Pros leave it outside of 8 feet. From 100-110 yards out, Tiger Woods missed the green 20% of the time!! Recalibrating our expectations makes the game more fun. Thanks Matt.
Hey Matt-really great video. What I like about this channel is the editing work you do to make your videos enjoyable. Amazing number of stats you keep. How about some insight into how you keep these stats while playing and which stats you think are most important . Well done.
The course setting within desert and cactus/wildlife looks surreal. That ball looks to be going a mile, and the greens look pretty tough to read for break. Thanks Matt and Luiz.
Just came across this video. Looks like a very frustrating course. You should try the Greg Norman corset PGA West out in La Quinta California. Bring two dozen balls and a spare set of clubs so you can throw them into the lake....
I really enjoy the PGA stat videos, it helps give a reality check on what my expectations should be and underscores the idea behind the 6-6-6 system (even though I'm still trying to break 80).
Man if i missed as many close putts as Matt did in this round, i would've lost my cool for sure. mad respect for sticking to his game despite all those close misses.
Your chipping is looking fantastic, and whatta double break birdie putt! My favorite stat is how longer irons/woods and drivers have such a wide left/right dispersion, but once you get within 125/100 yards it's just a matter of distance control most of the time. Even the pros stuggle with that and you see it all the time during tournaments
Here’s a shout out to Chris and Simon, good to see you met up with him! Keep up the game and it’ll treat you well. From one of the guys you golfed with that day.
Lots of stats surprise me. Lou Stagner posts different stats on Twitter. His shot dispersion patterns are eye opening. Of the stats you posted only hitting greens 70% of the time between 125-150 is eye opening. That’s a PW or GW. Most of us are disappointed if we don’t hit a green when we are hitting a PW, yet the best in the world miss 30% of the time! We need to adjust our expectations1
Spot on David. That Scott Spigot guy has a strategy system I’m not a fan of but he’s hilarious calling out announcers on Twitter when they say that junk like, “he should be hitting it inside of 10’ from 130 yards”… that junk just does’t align with the facts. Those announcers and their spurious pronouncements had me thinking I was far worse than I was.
@@Groovethumper69 the golf commentators/announcers are what kills golf. Not slow Play not distance the pros hit it. The overly dramatic and negative commentators are like propagandists
Also remember when we are watching on TV we are seeing the players who are playing their best golf that week, sometimes the best golf they may ever play in their life. You don't see the round like Matt Wolfe had the other day. I get down sometimes but need to keep it fun. I prefer to try to play a best ball with my son if on a full course, work as a team or suggest doing simple 2v2 match when in a 4some with friends. Takes the pressure off individual scorekeeping, help keep it fun.
The most surprising stat for me is the best putters from 5’-10’ last year were 65% yet when most people miss 5’ putts they are stomping on the ground angry they missed an “easy putt” That means you will miss 35% of 5’ putts if you are the best in the world and that we are not. There’s such a misconception that anyone can putt. Yes anyone can physically putt but if you put in the work and have the correct mindset when putting there also has to be expectations on putting as well all other shots such as from 125-150yds
Hey Baus, I stayed and played at Dove Mountain at Xmas, shortly after you were there. Fantastic course! Fun to see you chewing up a place I have also played. I saw the javelinas too! Apparently they make excellent barbecue….
Yo Karen - straight from the USGA - Take your time fixing or filling divots. Regardless of the club used, replacing a divot is a simple act: find the dislodged turf and replace it, making sure to push the divot back into the scar with your foot to enhance rooting. However, if the divot explodes into pieces and cannot be replaced, fill the divot with the divot mix provided by the maintenance staff.
Heyar Matt, If you ever come to New Zealand and you play Kinloch, which is another one of Jacks course's, You have to try to be on the right quarter of the Green other wise you have a double breaker most of the time. Jack rates it in his top 10 courses.
Most surprising stat to me is Putts per Round. None of this "get it close" - they clearly go for it every time...! What a beautiful course that is - all the gorgeous cactus gardens - really pretty. Enjoyed seeing that.
A fun course! Most interesting stats for me is how much the pros don't hit the hole. Many of my friends are disappointed when they miss the hole from six feet or twelve. But, same goes for Tour Pros! Of about 180 pros in a former PGATour stats, those hitting 50 % or more of their putts of 15 feet were just around 25 players => the vast majority holes less than half of those, what should a mere mortal expect!
man such good vibes all around --- Hope to play with some playas someday---if anyone is ever in Nova Scotia Canada, more specific Cape Breton Island look me up lets have a round!
I remember when the Match Play event was out there. The fact they skipped a WGC event which is usually one of the highest purses a year says how much they hated it. I think sometimes the pros can be whiny at times, but other times the conditions are truly not fair and makes golf more lucky than based on skill. The last US Open at Shinnecock where they dried it out so badly it caused horrible conditions and made it unenjoyable to watch and play on if you could.
We all need to get ourselves a Luis as a playing partner. Perfect on-course boyfriend! Also. I'm shocked that the GIR numbers are as low as they are - then again, we don't tend to watch a tour player's full round. TV coverage tends to hop around between the contenders shooting 13 under and a few miracle shots from random players.
FIR always surprises me on pro tour. I mean...I’m actually close to that. (Nowhere near the distance though, understandably. Cuz I don’t don’t suck) btw, Luis seems the poster guy for all the chill playas out here! Wadaguy
The stats very clearly highlight the importance of the short game for all golfers (GIOTG and 2 putting at worst!) The large proximity to the hole is where amateurs get stuck and drop shots. But the pros will often have two putts, at worst, then GTFO. Great content!
Surprising Pro-stat: Ave proximity to hole 23ft 4in (or 4x Rory Mcllroys). I didnt know Rory was that tall. Btw I havent seen many of the US videos but it looks like Matt has learnt to chip.
The most surprising tour stat to me is that they don't make as many GIRs and up and downs (esp from bunkers) than we think, and still come up with scores just a little more than par at the max. Most of us play pretty high above par, so expecting pro stats (but often overestimating what the pro stats actually are) is basically comparing "apples to terracotta pots" (quote from one of your old videos) is what we are actually doing. The way of the playa is the way to go for us
You manhandled that course. I’ve played Dove Mountain and it’s no joke. You were much smarter than I with your misses imho. I’m heading to Phoenix this weekend (into next week) to get a few rounds in! Don’t hate the playa…!
My favourite stat from the PGA is the puts made % VS distance. Anything over 3m is less than a 30% make rate. Amateur golfers always get angry when they miss 10m puts. This one stat halved my in game stress levels. More than 3m? Two puts. Anything less is a bonus. Relax and enjoy.
the most surprising stat for me was that you don't need to be a good putter.. if your approaches are all going close to the pin, then an average putter (but being good with approaches) will beat someone who's a good putter, but only average with approaches on most days (still talking about tour pro's).. I can recommend reading Mark Broadie's book "every shot counts" for many stats.
It has to be7:53 for me, the long putts - if the distance is roughly one telephone pole, they make 1/16. But if they only have to put 4 Rorys, they score worse with 1/20!
I find it most surprising how often the pros miss from 5'+, but how much they make from 3' and closer. What is it about those 2-3 feet that makes it so much harder? My guess would be that it's because within 3' you can probably see the hole in your peripheral vision, and thus it's easier to align and commit, but that's just a guess on my behalf. Keep making this great content!
Most surprising: Ave 3 putt distance 43 ft. 5 in. I feel a bit better about my game after reading some of those stats. Sticking to the ego free mentality. YAS QUEEN!
To me, the amount of putts that pros miss from inside 20/15/10/7 feet is really surprising. The guys on Sunday you watch seem to be making putts from everywhere, but that's why they are winning that particular event. Even the pros miss "knee knockers" that we amateurs berate ourselves for missing. Gotta keep those short to medium range putts in perspective!
My biggest surprise was the proximity to the hole, if i got as close to the hole as i expected every time i would be Tiger esc. I need to adjust what I think I am capable of, so i don’t ruin a round by being dissatisfied with every single shot.
I think whats most surprising is that we hold ourselves to standards thats not even the best of the best pros manage with any consistency. This is not the way of the playya. Manage expectations, have fun.
Tour dispersion on the green is wild. It's crazy to me that the average is so "far" from the pin, since I was always told from 150 and in you should be inside 10 feet lmfao. Just shows how important putting is Playa
The most surprising, and unbelievably not spoken of Pro Stat, its that more Tour Players aren't wearing Waddaplaya Buckets or planting feathers mid round. This has to contribute to why they don't have a super close proximity to the hole on approaches like we were all made to believe. They'll learn some day.
Matt i think the way your feet are spread out you are using the stack and Tilt method. I a, going to change to that as it seems a simpler swing that gives good power and is less stressful on the back and body.
Kind of I think. I need to learn to rotate into my right hip deeper with side bend. I think I am too upright. Losing some power there I reckon. Can;t shallow either. Hopefully will fix it this year
@@GolfSidekick Yeah from what i have learned on youtube the stack and tilt - they say you have to keep leaning to the left and keep left knee bent and right leg straight and dip more with hips. I am playing tomorrow and hope to hit a few practice shots. Hope it works as i dream of a draw and that method supposedly gives you a nice draw and more distance.
For me the most surprising stat is for putting. The make percentages are suprisingly lower then I expected from different distances. On Tv they mostly show them making everything.
Matt, I couldn't agree with you more on the handicap system. I only play 1 course My H.I. is 15.8 I shoot low 80s par is 72 which I hit once or twice a season out of about 80 rounds. I get 3 strokes on this course, I can't beat any of the higher H.I. players because they get too many strokes. My average is 81.2 how do they figure 3 strokes? Thanks for letting me vent.
Your buddy is having a great go at you!! 😂 Tucson pronounced “TOO sawn” Saguaro pronounced “Sa WAR o” Sonoran pronounced “So NOR an” Javelina pronounced “Hav a LEENA” and not technically boar/pigs…
@@jarodjameson7288 he said in the video it was Portuguese pronunciation. Around here we would certainly say “havalina”. But who is to say what is correct?
Definitely 70% GIR from 125-150 for pro's, not machines after all! I would have assumed the only thing that would stop them from GIR is a bad tee shot/bad lie. Need the Rory measurement from pin on the PGA tour too...
My expectations of myself should certainly be lower after learning those stats! I would have thought from closer distances certainly the green would be hit more with a closer pin proximity! Anyway for me, I assumed pros would hit greens with higher percentage and be closer to the hole. Average 3 putts distance pretty cool to know! I think the most surprising for me was the amount of bombs they drop though, I thought they'd hole more long putts than they really do! This course look amazing. I love the look of the Arizona courses, the dry, rocky, arid scenery mixed with a lush green course is really cool. Good round bro, some tasty shots in there! Looking forward to the next video. Really excited for your pebble round. Just watched Adams (not scratch) and I hope you get more light than he did haha

7 out of 10 GIR from 125-150 is great what a huge average, did you know Jin Young Ko has the all time record of 63 GIR consecutively! Waddaplaya!
How do you choose which club to use when teeing off?
Matt, I couldn't agree with you more on the handicap system. I only play 1 course My H.I. is 15.8 I shoot low 80s par is 72 which I hit once or twice a season out of about 80 rounds. I get 3 strokes on this course, I can't beat any of the higher H.I. players because they get too many strokes. My average is 81.2 how do they figure 3 strokes? Thanks for letting me vent.
Gotta watch out for the Jabbaleena's
Your buddy is having a great go at you!! 😂
Tucson pronounced “TOO sawn”
Saguaro pronounced “Sa WAR o”
Sonoran pronounced “So NOR an”
Javelina pronounced “Hav a LEENA” and not technically boar/pigs…
I couldn’t tell if this was satire or what lol. Luiz didn’t look like he was kidding when he told em how to pronounce javelina
@@jarodjameson7288 he said in the video it was Portuguese pronunciation. Around here we would certainly say “havalina”. But who is to say what is correct?
If you’ve watched any of the videos on the channel before, it might give you an indication that everything is a massive piss take.
@@thedadgolfer I think he might be just kinda retarded
@@jarodjameson7288 Luis is worth a Brazilian dollars
Pause the video at 3:15, it goes by very very fast but that's a UFO right there playa. I think the ET;s are checking out your backswing.Lol
Most surprising pro stat? Only 70% from 125-150. You'd think they'd be throwing darts with a PW or 9 in hand. Nice round Baus!
Avg 3 putt of 43 some feet is crazy… mine seems much shorter
