Couldn't agree more, everything you mentioned is spot on. I just upgraded to a JD 3039R with deluxe cab this past summer, simply put, everything is more enjoyable in a cab tractor. Everyone always mentions heat in the winter, I agree, but not being out in the dust and pollen during the summer months is huge. I have allergies as well, brush hogging was starting to wear on me with the open station. But the noise reduction is a big one as well, and just like you, sometimes I don't even have the radio playing. Not having to wait on better weather, the list goes on and on, all the way around it's definitely cab tractor for the win.
Bought my second tractor this spring. Bought the cab specifically for heat in the winter, but the AC and dust protection were an added bonus. Still use my open station tractor, but love the cab.
Excellent vid. I was debating the same question when I bought my new tractor. After 3 years, I have no regrets for buying the cab. Dust/pollen control while brush hogging and doing dirt work. Environmental control during inclimate weather. And a comfortable cacoon when I run into the occasional bald hornet nest. All priceless!!!!
I get -20C in the winter with wind chill down to -40C and 40+C in the summer. When I bought my 55 acre property and started looking at tractors to manage the property I asked all my tractor owning neighbors what implements were most important and EVERY one of them told me they regret not spending the extra money for a cab. I'm now the only person in our region with a cab on my Kioti NX5010HSE and after my first winter it's amazing!
All good points, I also value my cab on the skid steer, ac/heat, could never do what I do without it, it has some drawbacks but the pros outweigh the cons.
Yup Sandy I saved up a bit longer so I could get my JD 3039r with a cab. It made the price point a lot more but I’m at a stage in my life that I want what I want and I don’t want snow blowing in my face, plus it keeps me cool when I’m using it for longer periods in the heat. Cool video. Chad.
You really opened my eyes as I never give thought to many of the things mentioned. Also, the tractor and you work together as a team making it fun to show up and load a load of lumber or trees... what ever job it is, you are comfortable and not a jockey going for as many whatever to do at a pace that does get people hurt. I watch so many now Sandy as this is all I have to stay in touch with the real world. thanks for sharing thoughts as its a good one for many reasons
Great video, I bought my first tractor ever at the age of 53 last year. I bought a cab because of allergies that at times can be severe. This has allowed me to help with haying. The only disadvantage, and its minor, is that woods work doesn't happen with my tractor.....yet. Its an old farm and the woods roads have not been maintained and cleared of overgrowth. We will be slowly improving this and the tractor will see the woods eventually. Now if I can just keep my Father-in-law from driving around with the back window open, dust control will be better :)
Cab for the win, I don't operate enough in tight spots in the woods enough to worry about smashing it up. Great channel content from you as always, Sandy.
I agree with the cab when your plowing or blowing snow it will make up your mind real quick here in northern Wisconsin we get lake affect so it's nice to have a cab
Hi Sandy, my first tractor was open station. Loved everything about it. Then i put the blower on in October. By December I bought another tractor with a cab and a front mount blower. My answer is both, haha. I realize 2 tractors is a privilege. But i don't know anyone who doesn't want 2. I do tend to put more time on the cab tractor, and it's also the lower horse power. Also I don't use the quick hitch. Never really struggled with making the connection. Keep on tractoring.
Your absolutely right I froze in skidders when I was younger I’m 58 now I have a mile of road to plow so I bought a bobcat ct5545 it’s almost exactly same as yours it’s beautiful. Good video
You made valid points for the cab.I have a small farm in lower newyork state .When i got my first new tractor i did not get a cab it was a big mistake .I have frozen in the winter clearing my 1/4 mile long driveway and in summer i was stung multiple times in the head and face while brush hogging and had a reaction from that .My new tractor witch took 7mo to get has a cab, best thing i ever got but the 3rd function is a close 2nd.Thanx for the videos!
Jake here coming late to the party, in more ways than one. Bought a 2023 Kioti SE Cab some months back. Love ❤️ it truly as here in north central Fla. we have a lot of hot 🥵 weather and that A/C blows nice and cold. Still have & use the 3930 Ford New Holland I bought new back in 1998 & IIRC, that was the last year New Holland offered a geared tractor. That said I’m enjoying the 3 speed hydrostatic in the cabed Kioti. Apologies in advance for going on..yeah!, lovin the cab tractor with Bluetooth, A/C. It’s awesome being able to enjoy a cold one inside the cab and still get work done comfortably
I like the ignorence is bliss way about things in my vehicles or equipment. If you never spoil yourself with all the new gizmos and doodads like cabs, ac, power windows, auto transmissions, cruise control, radios, ect then you never know what your missing and life is good. I get why others like it all but for me simple is just so relaxing on the soul.
Thanks for the video, one thing about tinting your windows is it makes them almost bulletproof. Not sure if the windows on these cabs are made or safety glass; but if you've ever watched some of the police videos where they have to break a driver's side window that's been tinted you'll understand just how difficult it is to completely break. I don't think that I would use a really dark tint, just using something lightly tinted will get the same added strength as dark tint. Putting tinted film on glass is easier than most people think and you can buy it at the big box stores.
Well said, I agree with all your points. Also if a branch or something was to break the glass that is better than the branch hitting you in the face and injuring you. Another point is that in the case of an accident or tip over, the cab will keep you contained inside so you don't end up pinned under the machine
For many tractors the ergonomics and features vary with the cab. The Dk loader lever is very different. That is the main reason for me to consider the cab. The other big advantage of a cab is you can keep manuals, instructions, in the cab and read them in comfort. Great for new pieces of equipment or rarely used items or mixing rate information. You will lose a horsepower or two with the ac on so make sure you account for that. I just ordered an open station. I would fill the cab with tools, straps, ropes and keep it too cluttered.
Living in northern ontario( cold in winter , hot in summer, mosquitoes, and black flies) I didn’t even look at tractors without a cab when I bought my tractor. Kioti CK 26/20 se( cab) so worth it.
I’ve owned a few tractors over the years. The last one I bought has a cab. I agree with everything you said. Clearing snow in 8 degrees with the wind blowing. No problem. Our tractors have all the same features. Only difference is mine is a TYM. Awesome video Sandy.
Live in the UP of Michigan, I have a cab with heater on my Kubota. I didn’t even consider an open station tractor when deciding what to purchase. I can clear/blow my driveway in a t-shirt in the middle of the winter.
i live way up north in Ontario....and you are so right about the wasp and the black flys and mosquitos...they will eat you alive ...working with a mesh mask over your head while working is no fun..and i blow snow with snowblower and without a cab the wind would just blow it back on you and it gets cold and wet....cab is the way to go...yes sir
I don't have a cab but can very much appreciate what one offers. I would like to have a cab that I could pop on and off. I work a lot in dense bush and a cab would get destroyed and it would drive me crazy getting on and off the tractor. I am sure that I would love a cab on for all other tasks.
Well Sandy I'm glad I don't Have all thous problems here on the west coast. And yes we have deer fly's & pollen it knot that bad here on the Island i'm on. And were lucky to get snow in the winter at all.
Hey Sandy, I totally agree with you on the Cab subject. I only bought myself a new tractor a little over 12 months ago, but didn't have the funds for a Cab. I'm now starting to look at my options for either getting a Cab or as a minimum a windscreen. The weather in Northern NSW Aus is a lot less extreme than yours, in that winter gets down to an average of about 7c at night & an average of 30c during the day in summer... But all of the dust & bug issues you raised is definitely an problem, which at the moment my only solution is bug repellant and a hot shower at the end of a dusty day..... Keep up the good work, Cheers :)
You have it very right, it worth it a LOT. Both my tractor and my excavator are with ...... no cab .... and I had to build a cab (winter) for my tractor, otherwise (because we share the exact same weather) winter use is killing me (great to have heating) as it is in spring-summer time with flies but no a/c. Be well.
Hi Sandy!!😀😀 I have a Mahindra 2555 55HP with a cab and wouldn't trade it for a open station tractor for anything. I agree 100 percent with everything you said. Also the cab keeps small branches from poking you in the eye or slapping your ears. The glass is tougher than it looks. I have been a little careful and have never broken any glass yet. A little common sense goes a long way!! Take care my friend and enjoy your cab!! Logger Al.
Something that hadn't even occurred to me when I decided a cab would keep me alive in winter, as many have said, the A/C is just a nice bonus. But then I saw someone tinted tractor windows to increase the A/Cs effectiveness ... someone call up Pimp my ride. I got the hydraulics myself, but I'm not sure where to get wire wheels ...
I have 2 open tractors n 1 cab tractor n my mini excavator is open but has a roof.my favorite is my cab.love everything about it n my next one will have a cab.
I have grown up on farms and worked on them off and on for most of my life, and have run both open station and cab tractors.Im here to tell you,can is the way to go,if you have the funds to pay for it.Not just the initial cost of buying it,but also maintaining it.Nothing sucks worse than having to run a cab tractor in the summer and the ac doesn't work. They can cost you a lot of something goes wrong, but as a whole,I'll take a cab every time over an open station.
Different strokes for different folks. I'm in my sixties and have my share of age related health issues. I'm not in Canada, but am less than a hundred miles south of the border in the Adirondacks. My thought process was I can buy a bigger, more powerful machine or more implements with the money I'd have to spend on a cab. Consequently I got an 80 pto hp. tractor and a hydraulic post pounder for what I would have spent for a 60 hp cab tractor. Snow removal is a chore, and raking hay is hot, but my shoulders are loving not needing to swing a maul to set posts. Just a different outlook.
I have the same tractor as you have minus the cab. When i bought it new I would have liked to have the cab but by budget moved me to buy the backhoe attachment instead. Never looked back from that decision. Backhoe is much more useful than a cab. I'm on Vancouver island all I have to deal with is mostly rain.
Come to South Georgia in the US. The AC working like a champ will only keep the cab at 85-90 or so in the summer. You may be 10 degrees cooler. Then factor wear and tear and repairs. I can see a value In the cold. But the ac sucks in all cabs
I had a open cab for 18 years frozen and wet put on a snow suit, boots, face mask ,gloves, goggles, because you cannot see with the snow shooting in your eyes all winter finally had enough at 60yrs old I can now snow blow in my pajamas and slippers love my cab Kubota.
I own a open station tractor Mahindra 4035 thats basically the same tractor you have. I love my tractor and it has did everything I have ask of it but have been thinking of a cab for a while now and I agree with everything you said and will let time and if a good deal where to come up to see if a cab tractor is in my Future
It is also nice when you are using a snowblower off the front in a blizzard. Have you thought about the quick connect system for the 3 point attachments? Just found your channel and it is awesome.
Sandy, I bought a 3033r in the spring this year and have say I wish it had a cab. Especially after getting the brown tail moth rash when bush hogging. If I could go back in time...
that rash sure would make me get thinking about things. But in the bright side you’re out doing what needs to get down with your machine and that’s what counts
Growing up on a ranch in South Dakota we could not afford a cab tractor. Now 60 yrs later I would not go without the cab. In the winter here in Alaska the heat is very much appreciated. Looks like your tractor is pretty much setup like mine although cannot get any radio station on where I am at.
I guess that they took my comment away when I put a link to a picture in a finnish webshop 🤨. Well, if you want to improve your ergonomics you can cut of the "eyeballs" on the end of the liftingarms. Then bevel and weld quickcouplers instead. You can get both cat1 and cat2. With a good welding it will hold, no worries 🤗😋...
just in case the viewers not aware, it is not a good practice to drag the bucket backwards. when the hydraulic cylinders are extended, they are at their weakest state. One rock in the ground can cause the cylinders to buckle. if you have to drag the bucket backwards, try not to extend the cylinders too much.
Anyone seen a 30 year old cab tractor with all the glass, wipers working, and AC still going? A few of the big field tractors maybe, but the utility size ones tend to get smashed eventually, and the AC quits. If you have alot of snow to blow I guess a cab would be nice, but I don't. I don't cut grass or move dirt in the wet either, as those activities don't work so well in the rain. If you have an actual fixed budget for a tractor I'd still get a bigger open station tractor, over a smaller cabbed one, more tool for the money! I've already got good ice fishing clothes so sitting on the tractor in the weather for 45min plowing the driveway isn't really a hardship, and it rarely snows below -10 here either. If Sandy was skidding big trees then I think he'd rather have a bigger tractor, than making double the trips in a little tractor with a cab... Also it depends how many hours you are going to do, I'm averaging around 80 per year, so getting my stuff done in reasonable weather is easy. If you are making your living with a tractor and using it 20hrs a week then get a cab and a big capable tractor for sure. You'll also see most small farm utility loader tractors don't have cabs either just to KISS, so you don't to clean the glass all the time, or keep wipers on it, and you can see what you're doing better for hooking up stuff, loader work, etc...
I have a tractor that cost less than the cab upgrade ... a 1955 Ferguson and no payments! Payments are like a stick coming up and slapping you in the face, or a swarm of pestilence bugs biting off your extremities. If you get a tractor that was used hard, it probably smokes a little bit and the bugs stay far away.
I've always had open station tractors although clearing snow while snowing and very cold is not the best it never really bothers me as long as I'm suited up. Cabs just aren't worth it to me I do to much work in the woods and would end up breaking glass. I hate black flies and deer flies they're are Satan's spawn. But I can't deal with broken glass.
Sandy man. I’m not in any way meaning to be a critic or disrespectful but you don’t need to run engines wide open unless you require extra hydraulic pressure/lifting force. Same as our chainsaws, keep RPM’s down unless we really need that extra power. Save on fuel and wear and tear.
Tractors over here 🇬🇧, have to have safety cabs now, since the mid seventies. So I don't know if you have the same laws, this was because people were rolling tractors and becoming trapped under them if not worse, so now they come with safety cabs. Even though your comments are all valid they become unnecessary because of this. I've driven tractors for over 20 miles in winter without any safety or cover to our workshop, so so cold and we don't get the winters you do.
Your last three sentences about the cold, wet and pollen. ROTFLMAO Would the glass concern be greater if you were blazing trails as opposed to maintaining them?
I'm looking at buying a tractor next year. Reason I want a cab is to keep wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets separate from me and them. My old man has been ran off several times due to wasps nests. A cousin of mine accidentally backed his open cab tractor into a hornets nest.
Oh man,,we had Fordson Majors ,3 of them with no cab,,and let me tell you, muckspreading without a cab is NO fun..When we bought Leyland 272+,262 both with cabs it's a different world...
I bought akabota 4701 if I was told there was not a cab available I would of bought a bigger one a few thousand would not a made a whole lot of difference
@@sawingwithsandy nice ! I’m in northern Ont , just got a Kubota grand L 3560 with a cab , finally no more plowing snow with my quad ! Just put the subframe And the front blower on yesterday ! All ready for the snow now
I live almost 2000 miles south of you but i think open station is usually preferable. You noted buttoning up and turning on musuc as a 👍. I do NOT agree. I seen too many guys just zone out and be distracted. A cab is fine, I guess, but no music! Too many accidents and mistakes from guys 'cutoff' from sensory feedback. Worried about pollen?...pop an allergy pill. Dust & grime? This aint a resort... As for locking doors to keep kids out....balderdash! I say put those rugrats to work as soon as legs can reach the peddles. Use an extension if needed. Those kids eat too much to not earn their keep. Keep them in the field and off the streets I say! I'm hoping you'll get a team like Jim Gordon of "Working horses with Jim". He's in upstae NY. Maybe you can drive fown and buy a team from him. He has full set of equipment and sawmill. Plenty of logging, hauling and plowing with his horses.
HAHAHAHAHA yes I am in lower Ontario Canada near Niagara Falls, I was thinking hmm do I need a cab, well from Canadian to Canadian yes I also need one as well. That was easy to convince me huh.
So the people who claim you dont need the cab because the window might break would rather just get hit in the head instead? Fact is, anyone who tells me what i dont need can go F off, unless their paying. My money, my wants.

I’ve always wanted to operate a skid steer. Never had a chance. Bet it’d make quick work of my dirt pile that’s for sure

What type of machine do ya run out there Richard?
Bobcat 5558
That’s a nice machine!
Hi Sandy!!😀😀
I have a Mahindra 2555 55HP with a cab and wouldn't trade it for a open station tractor for anything.
Logger Al.
Thanks Al! That reminds me of the damp branches and how I used to catch the water splashing me in the face. Not anymore with the cab
A cab on a tractor is definitely a plus in my book don't have on the old ford jubilee 1953 but many time i which i had one
Looks like cold weather right around the corner, thanks for info
It’s coming quick!

I’ve had my open station tractor for 29 years. Always regretted not getting a cab. At the time $3000 extra.
Although I can imagine wanting the cab as long as it’s still running good after 29 years I’m sure you’ve made the right choice
One can always get an after market cap. Curtis makes them for several makes and models of tractors.
I waited 12 weeks for a kioti last year they couldn’t deliver. Ending up with the other orange one. Happy with it.
Yeah been a tough time I hear from the supply chain I’m hearing. Kubota are nice units too

Thank you for the informative video Sandy. I wish I’d bought my tractor 3 years ago.
Thanks for watching Wayne!
You crack me up, “if you love freezing, get an open cab”
I have the same tractor as you have minus the cab. When i bought it new I would have liked to have the cab but by budget moved me to buy the backhoe attachment instead. Never looked back from that decision. Backhoe is much more useful than a cab. I'm on Vancouver island all I have to deal with is mostly rain.
Very well done review and appreciated your thoughts and discussion on this topic :)
Glad you liked the video!
Thank you for sharing Sandy!
Come to South Georgia in the US. The AC working like a champ will only keep the cab at 85-90 or so in the summer. You may be 10 degrees cooler. Then factor wear and tear and repairs. I can see a value In the cold. But the ac sucks in all cabs
Cab all day long, a worthwhile investment! Thanks
DK65S my first cab tractor 🚜
Nice unit!
Sandy somethings that a cab does for you is having the cab to mount things like extra lights, rear view mirrors.
Good points!
I like that tractor you’ve got. I was able to see one up close one time and looks like a great machine. Comes down to the deal for me too
It is also nice when you are using a snowblower off the front in a blizzard.
Yeah I can imagine in Alaska heat would be nearly a necessity
Could you get satelite radio brother? That would be nice!!
Yeah that's a good alternative
Central Texas its hot this summer, 2023, 100+ degree dusty days and in winter can get below freezing. Man up in comfort with a cab...
Can imagine!
Wish I had gotten cab. Hard to work in snow without it.
Yeah my main complaint is when all the controls get covered in blowing snow and freeze.
Best $$ I've spent was getting a cab, HST and the implements I've bought.
I read a report of lightning safety on a tractor getting caught in storms or working cattle chores.
just in case the viewers not aware, it is not a good practice to drag the bucket backwards.
when the hydraulic cylinders are extended, they are at their weakest state. One rock in the ground can cause the cylinders to buckle.
if you have to drag the bucket backwards, try not to extend the cylinders too much.
I agree with ya. I reduce this risk of damage by using the float feature on my loader when back dragging on solid ground
Like you said it protect your seat and everything else making it last longer.
One of my pet peeves is when the seat cracks and foam gets wet and doesn’t dry too easily
You need a quick hitch Sandy! Love your videos.
Cabs make good sense for Canada. Adds another season or two to your tractor work.
Very helpful video, thank you.
Thanks for watching Robert
Arizona here, yeah the ac would sooooo be a selling point.
Yeah as a Canadian I’d imagine I would literally melt haha
@@sawingwithsandy Right? I would be asking what kind of frozen wasteland I am in at -0 c.
Ah yes, all the same reasons over here in the Adirondacks!
That rear 3point control is kioti exclusive
Is that right. I’d not want to do without it
Moving GTA to Muskoka. Looking to buy the kioti based on your videos. Just want to make sure it will do the job🤔. Where are you located in Ontario.
enjoyed the video keep on keeping on
I totally agreed with you
Excellent topic. All great points. Thanks. -Chad #purplecollarlife
Roughly how much more was the cab option?
I’ve had both and will never go back to an open station.
Have both like the open cabs better. Kubota wanted 5 grand more for a cab on my last tractor so it's open rops
Yeah price definitely can make the decision sway one way or the other
I've always had open station tractors although clearing snow while snowing and very cold is not the best it never really bothers me as long as I'm suited up.
You sold me on a cab after mentioning the black/horse/deer flys
I hear ya there!
Thanks For watching Ken. Here all modern tractors have roll over protection either built into the cab or as an added bar on open station tractors
How much will a new door cost when it breaks?
Sandy, you need to level out your box blade
Your last three sentences about the cold, wet and pollen. ROTFLMAO
Would the glass concern be greater if you were blazing trails as opposed to maintaining them?
I'm looking at buying a tractor next year. Reason I want a cab is to keep wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets separate from me and them. My old man has been ran off several times due to wasps nests. A cousin of mine accidentally backed his open cab tractor into a hornets nest.
Those wasps sure would be a pain! I get them form time to time to and have hidden in the tractor cab
It would be nice to keep exhaust fumes out of the old rusted cab on my Kabota. But then again its probably older than you are.
Yeah can imagine that wouldn’t be too nice to smell
Oh man,,we had Fordson Majors ,3 of them with no cab,,and let me tell you, muckspreading without a cab is NO fun..When we bought Leyland 272+,262 both with cabs it's a different world...
Yeah I’m with ya there. Sure is a different world
If it can break the glass it can break your head or crush ribs. Thanks and take care
I bought akabota 4701 if I was told there was not a cab available I would of bought a bigger one a few thousand would not a made a whole lot of difference
what exactly do you consider central ontario ? just curious
North of hwy 7 up to French river
@@sawingwithsandy nice ! I’m in northern Ont , just got a Kubota grand L 3560 with a cab , finally no more plowing snow with my quad ! Just put the subframe
And the front blower on yesterday ! All ready for the snow now
That sounds like a great tractor! Front blower would be a nice feature!
I went from open to cab. Pros outweigh cons. Open station is nice when you are off and on alot Thats about my only con. Im two hors east of you.
Good point about on and off again
You definitely need to buy a quick hitch and hydraulic top link
Working the land with horses is pretty neat. Not sure I’ve got the time for it. It definitely I like seeing it in action
Hey Sandy I heard that you are taking a Saddle along with you.
Not sure what ya mean
@@sawingwithsandy so you can saddle up a mosquito and ride him home .
hahaha
KEEP YOUR BUCKET LOADED WHILE U ARE PUSH DIRT U WILL HAVE MORE POWER EVEN WITH WHINING H S TRANMISSON U HAVE ?
Don't know why but your GoPro makes the tractors look strange 🤔
I’m not too sure. Hopefully it clears up on the next video for ya
I thought you have a 3-point quick hitch.
No unfortunately I don’t. Just the old hand hook ups
HAHAHAHAHA yes I am in lower Ontario Canada near Niagara Falls, I was thinking hmm do I need a cab, well from Canadian to Canadian yes I also need one as well. That was easy to convince me huh.
haha you know exactly what I"m talking about!
Allows one to work in poring rain and blistering sun...rather have one then not
You’ve got that right!
I love your job, where do you live?
Ontario Canada
So the people who claim you dont need the cab because the window might break would rather just get hit in the head instead? Fact is, anyone who tells me what i dont need can go F off, unless their paying. My money, my wants.
What would you rather have a broken glass or a broken face lol cab all the way
IF U NEED MORE POWER , NEXT TIME " GET GEAR DRIVEN TRANMISSON !
