You absolute madman, you actually did it. I'm almost assuredly never going to recreate this, but it has at least given me some inspiration for soups, stews, or ramens. Especially that essence of chicken technique.

In the decent Fijian restaurant , the original cuisine fotiaoqiang gonna cost you over $1000 at most and need to preorder one month in advance. Because the cooking process will take a whole month.
@@she7061 Stick with the Adeptus Temptation's variant tho. The original Fotiaoqiang uses shark fin as ingredient, something very hard and expensive to find legitimately, since finning is a very problematic practice worldwide.

not too sure where you’re located but they should serve this at any fancy southern chinese restaurant!! More commonly goes by the name of buddha jumps over the wall or 佛跳墙 but I think buddha’s temptation(?) is another name it has^^
You can't cook crabs and lobsters otherwise. You could just kill them right before cooking it, but you're losing out on the tasty brain liquid crabs, prawns, shrimps and lobsters have. So it's your decision whether you want to get the full product for the expensive animal, waste money on sparing it or just not buying it outright to avoid the dilemma. I think any decision is acceptable as long as you respect the animal and make a good meal out of it's sacrifice.

I have researched a bit, and it appears that crabs aren't confirmed to feel pain-regardless, you can shock or freeze them as a way to kill the crab, or let it be less aware of what's going on. I advice you look into it as there seem to be humane alternatives and to make you own opinion anyway.
@@manunova5929 I just searched it and it says that they feel pain. They just can't scream since they don't have vocal cords. Edit: Yes it isn't "confirmed" 100%, but most likely they do sense pain, they literally have 2 nerve centers.

@@Pikaman20008 there’s ways to kill crabs before boiling it alive. There’s a method purely for crabs called spiking and it’s painless since it cuts the nerves.
Yeah the ingredients themselves cost that much. In restaurants it would cost at lest $200 and if you go to a good one that does it right by the books which should also have separated the essence stock to be made into a thickened golden broth that is poured over the ingredients, it would cost even more.
Of all the recreation of this dish...I think you did the best one!! It looks and the cost of this is like a true 5* meal!!! The cooking time is pretty much a whole days work! Wow!

It's pretty much the single most expensive dish in all of Chinese cuisine, as it basically combines all of the pricey luxuries of Chinese cookery into one pot (including stuff like Shark's Fine, which is pretty pricey in and of itself)
The ginseng(人参) is actually more of an herbal ingredient. It has really good nutritional value and is supposed to have a lot of positive effects on your body. It's more commonly powdered or sliced and put in soup or water. So you're definitely not supposed to just munch it. But great video! Keep it up!
This goes to show just how much preparation goes into authentic flavorful cooking. Stocks need time to absorb the aroma. But that chicken essence thing is something I have to try for myself at some point. Pure, condensed chicken juice sounds about as weird as it sounds incredibly tasty for soup!
Another way to prepare boiled crab is to do a sharp chop down on its head to kill it before it goes in the pot. No struggle that way. I learned from how to prepare every shellfish video on youtube by this seafood chef

And for my entire life up until a few minutes ago, I thought it was some kind of our strange sense of naming dishes, didn't expected it to be coming from the original name of the menu itself.
