  • In this, the second piece of his recital at the FEA-curated CROSSROADS concert in Mumbai, TM Krishna performed an epic Ragam Kanada. Violinist HN Bhaskar switches to Ragam Sahana during his solo section. Krishna then follows with the Thyagaraja composition Yee Vasudha in aadi thalam. A tanam follows in Ragams Sahana, Bilahari and Mohana Kalyani. Krishna ends the piece with a virutham, Hemantha Kaale, in Ragams Mohana Kalyani and Devagandhari.
    Krishna was accompanied by HN Bhaskar on violin, B Sivaraman on mridangam and KV Gopalakrishnan on kanjira.

    TMK is the most precious gem in carnatic music today....i have never heard a better rendition of mohana kalyani...The title should be "transcendence". I wish someday he did an elaborate RTP in Mohana Kalyani....Thanks a ton FEA for such fantastic work. B shivram, HNB, & KVG did a fantastic work; especially the application of sankeerna nadais in between rendition of Ee vasudha......just top class.

    @First Edition Arts Channel - I really appreciate the great work you've been doing, posting such wonderful videos with high-quality audio. I have a small comment about the title of your videos, however. At least in Carnatic music (I cannot comment on Hindustani), the composition is as important as the Raga. It gives shape to the Raga delineation and defines the scope of elaboration.
    In this light, it is somewhat misleading to label a video with a generic "Raga X", when that can be a varnam, a kriti, a tukada, a padam, or even an RTP in Raga X. Several times, I have clicked on a video titled "Raga X", expecting to hear an elaborate rendition of the Raga, only to hear a stand-alone varnam and come away disappointed.
    Although in most cases the video description does contain the name of the composition, it would be nice if this information was provided directly in the title of the video. I understand that this means that the title cannot be as compact, for lack of a better word, but it would go a long way towards helping people understand what a video contains.

    • @FirstEditionArtsChannel
      @FirstEditionArtsChannel  5 лет назад +3

      Dear Vikram, we agree that the name of the compositions in the titles would make it easier for the viewer to judge what they will be watching and make the decision whether they wish to watch it or not. However, one does put as much detail in the accompanying description as well. These descriptions are not long essays that could be tedious to read before watching the videos. So if the viewer wishes to know more about the content of the video, expecting them to take the trouble to read the brief synopsis should not be considered too much to ask.

    • @vikramnitin9
      @vikramnitin9 5 лет назад

      @@FirstEditionArtsChannel Fair enough.
      While most videos do indeed have the composition name in the description, it would be nice if you could fix the small fraction of those that don't (or take care of this for future videos). Eg - Alamelu Mani: Ragam Kalyani, TM Krishna : Ragam Ravi Chandrika, etc.
      Thank you for your response!

      HNB did a commendable work on violin; however, he could exercise more restrain while TMK was doing raaga alaapana. In his attempt to follow each and every phrase, the golden sangathees are missed and can't be heard by the rasika. Plus it would allow the manodharma of the vocalist to manifest in its full beauty - giving the listeners an absolute joy. I feel, he should follow more of the concluding phrases like akkarai or varadarajan rather than emulating the whole of the sangathees like nagai muralidharan (who is again a genius). I'm not drawing any comparisons here...but feel the beauty could be enhanced more by exercising more restrain during raga alaapana. My favourite all time violinist is MSG (guru of HNB's father) so i love HNB's playing as well. Great work team.
