- The centrepiece of Ramakrishnan Murthy's recital at the Crossroads festival in Manipal was in Ragam Kanada. He began with an alap accompanied by Charumathi Raghuraman on violin, followed by a Thyagaraja kriti called Sukhiyevaro in Adi talam. NC Bharadwaj and Chandrasekara Sharma went on to play a tightly constructed thani avarthanam. Kumari Samanvi and Radhika Shankar provided tambura support.
The guys are now dominating center stage in classical music.congrats.

It is Carnatic music and not Kanada music.
@@rangachariraghavan1660 It should have been 'Karnataka music', but British pronounced it as 'Carnatic' for their own convenience. So, it got stuck like many other Anglicized words!

Simply superb.. I am a great fan of tmk ,I knew nothing about karnatic music or any music for that matter..still don't know anything. Listening tmk enabled me to enjoy classical music and thank him for that. His articulations and theatrics taught me to learn to e me enjoy.
After listening Rmk , I learn that tmk is more of Pop type, no pun intended, and meant for masses. Here,Rmk is pure classic.a better genre. More breadth and depth .
While I too am no expert here, I would certainly disagree with the claim that TMK is "of Pop type". He is a pioneer and one of the foremost musicians of our generation. He is as "pure" as any other serious carnatic musician.

You have wrItten, “tmk is more of Pop type”, and meant for masses, and “Rmk is pure classic. a better genre.” I wish to tell you that Sri T M Krishna follows Sangeeta Sampradaya Pradarshini, a 120 year old text on South Indian Musicology (Carnatic Musicology) that describes the Raga Laxana and Raga swaroopa of many Carnatic ragas, and gives notations on many Carnatic compositions. It was written by Sri Subbarama Deekshitar, adopted son of Sri Baluswamy Deekshitar, the youngest brother of of Sri Mutthuswamy Deekshitar, one of the Trinities of Carnatic music. Very few Carnatic vocalists do so to the extent TMK does. So, TMK is as classical and traditional as one can get. So it is incorrect to say that TMK is a “Pop” artist. Yes, he has an enormous number of followers and often a huge mob attends his concerts, because his music is soulful, and his singing touches rasikas’ heartls and calms their minds; that does not make him a pop star.
I am glad you wrote that you “knew nothing about karnatic music or any music for that matter..still don't know anything.” And because you said so yourself, I hope in the future you will think carefully before you pass sweeping judgements of great vocalists of Sri TMK’s caliber. Yes, Sri Ramakrishnan Murthy is an excellent vocalist, and I admire his singing also. In fact he is one of my top three favorite vocalists. He is quite young, however, and it will take him several more years to reach Sri TMK’s level. You have said that you admire traditional classical Carnatic music. For that I suggest you listen to Dr Shertala Ranganatha Sharma; he is as traditional and classical as one can ever hope to be.
