Hey lowko. Love the vids. Suggestion: on match starts, describe the map advantages and disadvantages vs the specific matchup. Thanks for the vids. Love the 45min+ ones
I think the thing that Lowko's missing is that the mutas weren't just "against terran late game". Dark was very specifically hunting down tanks and ghosts, i.e the things that would kill the ultraling composition that he would swing to after the mutas. He was essentially repeatedly clearing out the counters to ultraling so he could do damage with that.
Terran does have very good units to counter mutas. For bio builds it's the humble marine, for mech it's either the cyclone or thor depending on the version: battle and standard respectively. There is also the viking of course. However when Terrans enter the very late game they typically stick to mostly ghosts and liberators, neither of which is particularly great against mutas. Actually making a late game muta switch a very viable tactic as Dark showed in game 1.
Need some translator heroes!! Honestly, these games are making me want to learn Korean. I looked up a "how to read Korean" RUclips video after some long chats in a previous match. lol
I am surprised Lowko until the end apparently didn't fully understand what Dark was doing with the Mutas. He got SO MUCH value from one-shotting the siege tanks and harrassing the ghosts - which are good against almost everything, but Mutas not so much! - before walking in with the Ultras. It's a brilliant idea, which I feel has even more potential to give Zerg another option in late-game ZvT.
Hey Lowko, Been a fan for years. I've probably watched about 75-85% of everything you have produced over that time. Sounds like even Lowko gets bored of his own commentary a little after the hour mark. I switched over to a video by another caster at that point. Great games.
I think he got so focused on how well the tanks did during the mid game that somehow mines never came to mind, probably because he was tilted. Really strange game but my goodness was that memorable.
Dark's muta usage was brilliant in game 1 but I was so frustrated by him throwing away 30 banelings for an orbital at a base with few minerals left. He just needed to focus on mining out the bottom right base as much as possible, as long as he mined two more bases than the Terran he could afford to simply sit back, defend his bases with baneling packs while harassing the Terran and keeping him on the back foot with his mutalisks. If he had mined out the bottom right base it would have been completely over after Byun failed to kill his top left.
