    Yes, finally a very simple video that I can send to my students when they want to get into R, but it's still a little bit too daunting for them to start. Thanks for making this video! 💪

      You're welcome, Fleur! I am glad the R teacher don't get angry that I simplified it so much. Thank you for sending this video to your students, I hope they could share with me if this is simple enough to follow!

    I prefer Pain au chocolat !!! Joking aside, the rhythm and calibration (sound and color) of the video is great. Keep it up, I've watched all your videos so far !

      Félix, I also prefer Pain au Chocolat now, but when I first arrived in France, Croissant was all that I knew!
      Thank you for watching all my videos, I think you may be one of the few people on this planet that do! Even my mom has given up on watching haha. Thank you so much for your support!

    Hi
    I came across your channel as I am looking for the best way to learn R to conduct my PhD thesis.
    Yes, it is challenging as I don't know where to start. I am still searching for a mentor to help me overcome this challenging time.
    I use the TOPSIS method combined with R exploring my research. I am an R beginner, so I have to build everything from scratch.
    I drop some lines here, and hopefully, some R experts can read my comments, and they will give me the best advice.
    By the way, I love your channel and have already subscribed to it. Cheers

      I know Chad C. Williams is very keen on mentoring new R users, you can find out his R tutorials here, and he quite active on Twitter:

    I will encounter it for RNAseq, but I thought we would already use a plugin and I would for sure not have to code anything myself. In any case, seems like a very valuable skill for anything! There's always 2 options right: either you learn the skill yourself...OR you hire/contact people that do and create symbiosis or just pay them :p

    • @PhDCoffeeTime
      @PhDCoffeeTime  4 года назад +1

      Absolutely, I would point out the value of "investing" time early in PhD to develop these skills if it increases options of working opportunities. Programming skills is hard for most people, I think the "SMART" goal for life scientist is to at least be literate to read and understand codes. That will make your follow what the contractor is doing with the dataset, and help the work flow and team communication better.

    Make some tutorial videos on Inkscape.. Like how you have drawn images in your daily basis. You just record them conventionally and upload them in YT channel om a dedicated playlist. That will help to apprehend using of inkscape for academic purpose from you. Thanks you.

    Hi Vera, it's me again, joe. Vera, (LOL), you never really mentioned what "R" is used for as a whole. Analyzation and statistics are not necessarily the same. Please, I am not criticizing you, I appreciate what you do in giving back, and find you interesting. P.S.: I am considering doing a PHd in four years (Creator Willing). joe.

      Hi again Joe, I am happy to hear more in depth feedback! I appreciate them, so please keep coming back so I can learn more from your thoughts.
      In fact, I am biased because I only have used R for biostatistics as a biologist, so my view certainly has many blind spots that does not cover the computer science applications. I hope you will find an enjoyable program for the studies.

    Dear Vera, thank you for this video! Inspiring as always. I am afraid I have a very silly question, since I am starting to learn R: in case you do use R to analyze your date and make your figures instead of a paid program, how do you state this in the material and methods section when publishing your research?

    • @PhDCoffeeTime
      @PhDCoffeeTime  2 года назад +1

      Hi great question! To cite a specific pacakge, you can look up the Author by googling "r documentation & package name"
      In materials and methods, it's important to specify R package version you have used to ensure reproducibility
      To cite specific package, e.g. Dplyr. The Documentation is here: cran.r-project.org/web/packages/dplyr/index.html
      The citation for Dplyr:
      Wickham (2021) dplyr: A Grammar of Data Manipulation R package version 1.0.7. CRAN.R-project.org/package=dplyr
      Note: you can "import" the R documentation into Zotero with the Chrome Add-in button directly. You can see my Zotero video if you are new to this ref manager :)
      I find this blog quite clear: intro2r.com/citing-r.html
      To cite R in general:
      R Core Team (2021). R: A language and environment for statistical computing. R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria.
      URL www.R-project.org/.

      @@PhDCoffeeTime That's exactly what I needed to know!! Thank you so much Vera. I use Zotero as my reference manager because of your video. This is my first year as a postgraduate student in a foreign country and nobody speaks English at my lab. I often find in your videos the support and tips I need to move forward. Thank you for your time!

      @@user-bx3di8pk1q I am so happy to hear that! Feel free to leave your questions/comments after watching my older video. RUclips makes it easy for me to see new comments, and so far I do respond to every comment whenever I find free time besides my 9-5 job!
      Also, from my experience of living in France, surrounded by non-English speakers. It has taken me 4 months to accept that I need to learn the language, and I wish I have started practicing on Duolingo earlier. I still use it for 5-10 min each day, a tiny improvement in French each day has a massive impact on my quality of life in France!
      Big hugs!
