We play the 4th forbidden round where you have to use a single freeze frame pose. All the guessers have to close their eyes until the actor freezes in their pose and says "Open" and can't move again until someone has guessed it correctly.
The best part of monikers is when you're past the 1st round and someone walks in who has never seen the game and watches you getting these incredible hits on single word / ridiculous charade clues and they're just completely amazed at your incredible power.
I love Quinns, but he always looks like he could use some sleep.
nah that's just the UK
It's the early videos that he does have a specifically overworked look. Luckily he looks much more rested now.
"The comedy equivalent if you falling and your friends catching you" is top top top level reviewing.
Glad it wasn’t just me. Great line.
forbidden round 11: lay down behind the couch, feet up and use your toes as finger puppets
forbidden fantastic nerd round N+1: head visible, morse code the one-word description by wiggling your ears
We actually always play this with four rounds. Except charades is the fourth round and the third round is just _a single sound_ instead of words which is ridiculous and amazing.
i hear that the funniest fan created round is the charades under a bedsheet round
Playing 4 rounds with bedsheet charades as the final one is how I learned to play Celebrity. It's insane - the only downside is it makes it really hard to read what you're supposed to act out next. Since you're, you know, covered in a bedsheet.
We've done a 4th round where you go behind a wall or otherwise out of sight and can only use sounds, no words or movement
I do this too! Everyone on my team closes their eyes and then it's only audio clues! It's so fun!
Optional extra rounds include: miming under a bed sheet and making sounds from behind the sofa.
I'm beginning to think you're not playing Monikers...
Our secret 4th round (or just reserved as a tiebreaker) is that the active player uses another player as an articulated doll, moving their body into a pose that represents the word.
I always want every game you review.
I love how this review is very old, and simultaneously very relevant to your new version of the game.
The problem with these games is that they often aren't very international, they have a lot of expressions or pop culture hard to get if you're not from an english country. Which is something that should be said. Is this the case with monikers?
I guess you can extend amount of cards you give to the players to choose from. From 12-15 cards i'm sure it would be possible to take 5 common enough if you are from 2017 and have basic knowledge of pop culture and famous folks from history.
it's a party game that doesn't need a box.
look up the rules for "fishbowl" online, and just bring 3x5 cards.
I've never played the mass market version, so I'm not sure how much better it is than the party version.
Thanks guys, I'll check it out and see.
But you know, last year I discovered who Taylor Swift was. So yeah... That's the level of pop culture in my group xD
One of the things that sets Monikers apart from just playing with a bunch of handwritten file cards is that it does actually include brief descriptions of who you're trying to portray on the cards, just for this eventuality.
I think this is where Time's Up: Title Recall stands out for me. It's the same game but with films, books, songs and other things. Yes, the first round can be tough if you don't have the cultural knowledge of the different cards but because it's not names they are considerably easier to explain. It's brilliant in every situation I've played or hosted it, such as parties with international and British people or classrooms, and it's never failed. Everyone ends up laughing.
The mythical 6th round where you can only express ideas via pointing at objects around the room
The rule set for monikers has given my friend group a whole new use for cards against humanity...
theres nothing quite like someone trying to mime "a windmill full of corpses rolling towards the sea" with just their head
We frequently play a round where you can only make a sound, and it ends up hilarious.
Our rounds we play go as follows:
Round 1: Normal
Round 2: One word
Round 3: Charades
Round 4: One noise, you make a noise (can't be an actual word)
Round 5: One hand
Round 6: Facial expressions
Accidentally made a bloody mary made with five parts f**k and now I’ve lost my bartending job. Thanks a lot.
Just saw the kickstarter and wanted to check out your review (again!), low and behold this pops up! :D
Wow, absolutely brilliant review! Kudos!
That one breath take makes me thing Quinns should take up the bagpipes
I held my breath not on purpose when you tried that second time. haha
amazing explainer!!!! Loved it!
was waiting for quinns to act out being a fluffer
-with only his head.
Please put the First Published date at the START of the description. I have already watched all the ones from Vimeo and I would like to be able to tell, at a glance in my subs, if it's a new review.
Great review. I would love you guys giving review of BSG :)
The 4th rounds sound fun and creative, but for all the other cards, wouldn't you rather have everybody write down 5 words on scraps of paper? Then the word can be things that aren't people. Also, you'll feel clever when your words get a laugh.
Is this episode sponsored by Beck's?
Hej guys :) After enjoying your review and imagining all the fun I will have playing it with all my friends I of course wanted to immediately run off and buy the game... But it is nowhere to be found. Except maybe in the US but I live in Europe. Not even on the games website. Do you know something about this Monikers shortage? As you guys created an expansion and thus probably working with the game producers I thought you might have some information on the situation ? :D
The most amazing thing about these games are the people playing it.
I'm sure I don't know 70% of the cards in this game. I'm doomed in this game.
how come you never did a video review of "camel up"? and now is getting dust in your attic
Today I bought a copy of Who's In The Bag from a charity shop, and this review has given me an awesome new way to play it.
So glad you didn't burn your house down grilling a sheet of paper
Did anyone else call this "fishbowl" growing up?
Do you have a Budapest shirt on though?!
Isn't Krang *just* a head anyway?
I want that T-shirt!
Amazing!!
i've been trying to get this game, but for some reason they don't offer it anymore, what happened?
Back in stock on Amazon Monday (Dec. 3) www.amazon.com/Palm-Court-Monikers/dp/B00M07OQ1U?tag=shupsido02-20
Anyone know where to get this now?
Can’t find a copy in the UK that isn’t crazy expensive. 🤦🏻♂️
Might be a bit late for this, but usually every year or so the publisher of it does a kickstarter with a new expansion! This year might be an exception, but eventually I'm guessing it will be back!
I only got the rules the second time so two tries makes sense
this game is amazing!
I wish I could find this game anywhere

@@shutupandsitdown I appreciate it, but I refuse to give Jeff bezos any more money than he already has.
I was mostly referring to local retailers not having it in stock
nice product placement
Does 'Shut Up & Sit Down' not sell the game Monikers? Surely there should be some disclaimer to prevent bias ratings for the review?
Is this game for everyone, or do you need to be deeply roted in internet culture to get most of the cards.
So Times Up for perverts?
Convenient timing, eh...
"Mikhael Gorbachev!" "No" "Basic Bitch!" "Yes!"
Brilliant..
Hahaha fuck. This is so not my sort of game until i saw a card with Mr trololo on.
It is now a must buy!
My friends and I adore this game (which we'd always known as "Celebrity") but playing with a box of pre-printed cards seems like it couldn't possibly be as fun as just writing a bunch of names on slips of paper...
I am really early 0_0
You lost me … off to another review to see how to play.
