My partner has a problem with alcohol and my best friend passed away before the age of 30 because of his drinking habit. So I really actually hate alcohol but I do miss having a casual adult beverage. I love this review and the non-alcoholic beer review! I'll be sharing this with my hubby and rooting for you guys ❤ always love your content, you are lovely people
Thank you for trying these!!! I’ve been having fun going to restaurants and asking the bartender to surprise me with a mocktail. The last one was so yummy! She then wrote down the recipe so I could make it at home! ❤️
Used to be a casual social drinker, in my late thirties that all changed. Out of nowhere no matter what alcohol I drank glass of wine one glass sick. Two beers sick. Anything mixed with hard liquor sick so I had to quit everything. My mouth still waters when I think of a cold shot of jagermister with a beer back and my stomach says sure go ahead and do that😂😂. So finding good mocktails would make me very happy. Thank you for sharing this journey and loved you and happy you won on Amazing Race.
Try Tost! It’s a delicious sparkling wine alternative. It’s made from tea so it’s not really trying to “be” wine but it’s very satisfying when you want a glass of bubbly or are celebrating at a wedding
6 years sober for me, after initially giving it up for my alcoholic husband...he ended up in a never ending cycle of alcoholic abuse and chaos, me divorcing him and still sober lolz.
Doesn’t taste a ton like alcohol, but I’m partial to soda water,(ginger or lime), and about 1/6-1/4 tart cherry juice. I’m a fan of tart and try to keep sugar intake to under 15g/day. It’s bubbly and zippy. Very budget friendly
Closest I have found to “wine” is Fre. The chardonnay is best. It seems that it must be easier to make whites and rosé as opposed to reds. I haven’t found a good red yet. The Fre sparkling wine is pretty good, too. It makes a nice mimosa.
This is a much needed video for society. In Tuscon AZ, we have a mocktail and coffee bar! I've been sober for 4 years now, and it has been really nice to be out of the alcohol world. However, this video helps for if family comes into town and for just fun drinks. Enjoy your journey, and I love the education Kim did on adaptogens :)
This has been so truly helpful. I am also on my sober journey. It's been 3 going on 4 years and I have been craving a margarita and a beer. So watching both of these has been amazing. I haven't tried and non alcoholic drinks cuz I was afraid that would be disgusting but now I am gona try some. I really want to find a good non alcoholic beer so bad hahaha
My husband and my dad both enjoy a good Belgian beer and when they drink a beer that's not to their liking, they'll say "it's potable", similar to your "it's better than water." Feel free to use it. They say it so often that I got each of them a beer glass with "it's potable" etched on it. This was fun to watch! I like non-alcoholic options, too, and it's always good to know what might be better than water.
Your vinegar and seltzer sounds like the shrubs we make. We make a shrub with fruit, sugar, and vinegar and then mix with soda or tonic. Great summer drink!
My adult kids & I have been enjoying mocktails as a holiday treat for the past two years. (do not appreciate the flavor of alcohol, and alcoholism is in our genes so we choose to be wise) What we have learned is that we like white "wine" versus red, and disliked the faux rum we tried SO much we're not willing to try again. Our favorite brands are Fre and Gruvi... both of which have mixed drink recipes right on their website! (Fre is sold at our local Target, FYI!)
Thanks Kim and Penn! As a 40-something, I’m feeling the adult bevs hitting me harder now. Going to have to try some of these…just those solid “8s” though. 😊
I just always like nice, interesting things to drink whether they have alcohol or not. Like Kim, I like the evening ritual of opening a bottle and holding the glass.
I’ve found that Surely tastes a little kombucha-y where Joyus or Leitz taste closer to wine. But Raleigh has a mocktail bar- Umbrella Drybar that has bottles and cans to take home as well as mocktails to try. Highly recommend!!
I’m 8 months sober and everything in my life has improved times 10! I like the following non alcoholic :Lagunitas IPNA in a bottle or Gruvi white Prosecco. I also like De Soi but it’s an acquired taste ! Sober is so much healthier!
You guys are the best! I take breaks from alcohol too! After the first couple weeks, you definitely feel better and personally I don't miss it. Then, sometimes out of boredom, or maybe an event happens, I'll slowly drink again once a week for a few months. But, usually end up taking a break again and it's a cycle. As we all know, alcohol is one of the biggest carcinogens we consume, so abstaining altogether or at least taking breaks is good for you. I can't lie, I'd love to hit a dive bar with you two though! 😂❤ Hope you are enjoying your summer! ❤ love you guys so much!
Forgot to mention Dollar Tree Evian has sparkling water in that store. There is also craft soda such as cherry cola not the coke brand ginger soda and a blueberry one and black cherry one and a Root beer. In some places I have seen a company called Jones Soda
I drink seltzer (any flavor or plain) with a tbsp of Bragg’s ACV and a tbsp of Ginger People’s organic ginger juice every day! It’s what helped me quit a Diet Coke addiction 10 years ago 😉. Sometimes I add a packet of TrueLemon Watermelon Lemonade 😋. Kombucha is great, too, when trying to replace alcoholic beverages. There’s a great mojito one I get occasionally as well as ginger berry.
Congrats on quitting alcohol ! 100% great🥳 (be careful tho, usually those are full of added sugar, but there is a lot of low sugar options and it's still less worst than soda). Love you guys !
Ritual tequila is amazing! I love some of the Curious ones as well but they’re so pricy. Leitz non alc wines are pretty good. Noughty sparking wines are really good too. Almost all of the spirits are meant to be in cocktails versus straight. So fun to see your reviews!
I am 33 and have never had alcohol before, because I am LDS. But I have always been curious about the taste, maybe I should try the seltzer with ACV, and one of the others ones you shared. Although, I wouldn’t know what to compare it to. :) Good luck on your sober summer. Thanks for sharing.
I tried your favorite mocktail. Since I did not have flavored Spindrift seltzer, I instead used plain sparkling water with a Crystal Light flavor packet. I loved it!! That Apple cider vinegar just adds a certain something something that really makes the experience so much better. Thank you for the suggestion!
For a de-alcoholized Sauvignon Blanc, try Geisen. In Pennsylvania I’ve seen it at Whole Foods and other grocery stores. I tried the Ritual Rum Alternative and it is very close to the real taste. I mixed it with Olipop Vintage Soda with a squeeze of lime for a mock rum and coke and it was good! In my opinion a lot of these alternative liquors are best in mixed drinks. I gave up alcohol for a year just to do it and explore other stuff. My year is over, but there are a lot of alternatives that I still enjoy.
Thank you for the reviews! We have tried many too. “Kin Blossom” is my go-to chilled glass at the end of the day. I think you will like the taste, definitely the mellow feeling after a glass.

I love the taste of food that has been touched with a little wine but I hate ‘having’ to finish a bottle of wine that has a half-cup removed for the pasta sauce. If you have some of that left, could you add it to your pasta sauce and let me know how it works out? Thanks. Very good episode. Rate more things please. I love the way you do it, Kim.
Pathfinder Spirit is my favorite NA spirit. Also Winifreds on Food 52. They actually have a whole sober summer section there. I got some strawberry NA liquor and have been mixing a variety of NA Apertivo cocktails this summer
I love Poppi and Olipop! Poppi has Apple cider vinegar in it and both are low sugar sodas that aren’t overly sweet and don’t have chemical tastes to them! Highly recommend!
Great video! Another couple drinks I'd recommend is Spiritless (I've tried their whiskey - Kentucky 74) and canned mocktails by Curious AF (their Cuba Libre is really good straight but it's also good mixed with the Kentuck 74).
HELLO KIM & PENN! What we think you missed was in addition to your Apple cider vinegar and seltzer, water is add some Bai coconut fusions (mango and pineapple are our favorites) and you can also add a little bit of elderberry syrup for a healthy kick, more color, and more flavor. ENJOY Y’ALL!! 🎉😊
As someone who has to wear glasses just to see my own hands I'm curious why Penn had to remove his to drink? PS. I have zero - no probably less than zero - interest in mocktails but I'm still watching this because you two are so gosh darn delightful. I was sad when your kids stopped videoing with you but I just love what you've made this new chapter into. :D
Recognizing that kombucha has trace amounts of alcohol, it's still worthy as a mocktail, especially if you already like vinegar. So many flavors exist commercially now and it's super easy to make your own. Many thanks for trying all these other brands, I have been curious about the non alcoholic spirits.
Thank you so much. If you find any other good ones can you please tell us about them. I have tried maybe 2 or 3 mocktails/non alcoholic wine and only one tasted good. I went mostly sober (only drink small amount of alcohol at a special event which is once every year or less) years ago because alcohol (one glass) gives me a stomach ache, head ache and just makes me feel ill. It didn't in my 20's but in my early 30's is when it started to make me feel ill. Thus, I'm always interested in good non alcoholic wines, beer, hard alcohol, spirits, mocktails, everything and anything. I like them to actually taste like the real thing. Thanks!!
If you like a whiskey cocktail, I just tried Blind Tiger's Ward 8 mocktail and it was a solid 8 on the Kim scale. Kind of sweet to start, but there was something smoky and whiskey-like in the aftertaste. Would try again. Their Sidecar tasted like a lemonade with honey. So ... they did good. But not at making it taste like alcohol. 😆
I'd love to see a review of De Soi, and Ghia. Also, NA spirits like Vodka and Rum. I pretty much only make cocktails with Tequila, Vodka, or Rum. Tequila is my favorite, so I think I'm sold on Ritual!
Have you tried Kombucha? It would be interesting to see your taste tests on kombucha. There’s so many out there that are delicious! I have cut out alcohol and caffeine and since kombucha is made with tea, it has some caffeine so I make my own decaf kombucha at home. I drink it like it’s my cocktail 🍹 and I can drink it at night if I want to without having a sleepless night. Granted, kombucha can contain naturally occurring alcohol but it’s a very low percentage.
Well done, Penn and Kim! Love that you’re both trying your best to become sober and I wish my boyfriend would do the same, but so far; it’s not looking good 🤔
I wanna see the vid where you add the alcohols to the items where you said vodka or rum would improve it!!!!! Maybe during the holidays when the extended family visits!?!??!?!
I love how they tried all these things they paid for & ordered …. And then they went with their old stand by with a bottle of apple cider vinegar :>>**> ha ha ! I will try this!
So glad you guys are doing this, I’m on this journey too. I’ve tried a lot of these, and not been impressed. I know Kim gave them above five as a grade, but I am still mostly two to threes on most of them. Looking forward to your beer review.
Lots of times we don't feel good after drinking a cocktail because of the low grade alcohols, fillers, colors, sugars, and additives. If we had a really pure higher end alcohol with clean mixers, or "dry farm wines" I think you likely can do less damage and not feel crappy.
Pour @322 coffee shop Belleville Illinois they have what is called Absolute Tonics I had the one with the lemongrass it had quite a kick with the pepper truth
I take medication that prohibits drinking alcohol. I love the fact that I can still have the taste and social side of drink. I just wish they rated non alcoholic wines with a sweetness/dry scale like they do the regular wines. Many times I have bought a non alcoholic wine and hated it because it was too dry. I have actually stopped buying wines because of it, even though sweet wines are my favourite alcohol
I had a delicious mocktail at a restaurant when I was pregnant. But when I looked up the ingredients to try and recreate it at home several were pretty expensive. Surprising since the drink itself was not. I guess if a popular restaurant bar is buying them it all evens out.
You’ve had only 1 painkiller?? Probably a good thing, because that’s the drink that helped kick start my sobriety!! One too many in the Bahamas 4 years ago, I decided to cut back and haven’t had a drink since!
St John's winery out of Peru Illinois has one but you may have to check online this was a long time ago my first drink at 21 years old in 1997 it was a Spumonte I do not know where on earth you would find it now the other is not a wine but sparkling grape Juice Knudsen out of California is another good one Voss water out of Walmart Welch's has a new grape juice out with a nice rose flavor
Well done on your sober journey, Penn and Kim. We're rooting for you.
Kim: It has lemon balm, nut bag, and aloe... so that's sort of... they're called--
Penn: We're drinking SUNSCREEN.
Dude. NutMEG, the spice. Not nut bag. Dude.

So glad you guys are doing this, I’m on this journey too. I’ve tried a lot of these, and not been impressed. I know Kim gave them above five as a grade, but I am still mostly two to threes on most of them. Looking forward to your beer review.
My favorite mocktail is equal parts orange juice, cranberry juice, and sprite over ice. Add a paper umbrella and you’ll think you’re on the beach 🏖️
Spindrift!!!❤❤❤
Edit: oh wow, totally going to try the spindrift and ACV, thanks!
When Kim said 'its fine ' I was waiting for the look on her face to read, 'I dare you to say anything different.'
Oh my gosh where was this video during my pregnancy!!! Hahaha thank you though!
Thanks for sharing. It's nice to know that there are so many non-alcoholic options that don't taste like soda.
Pause at 11:01 and it looks like drunken confessions if you didn't know the context.
You should try 'The Great Gentleman: Spicy Pineapple' soda. It totally tastes like a cocktail with a bit of bite to it. Super delicious but not sweet.
Drink your ACV with a straw and you won't have to worry too much about your enamel! 😊
Lyre's is also good mock mixers. They will even do a one on one live 15 minute class with you. Check them out.
I loved that you gave the matching alcohol to mix with these 😂😂😂
Try No & Low's sparkling chardonnay. Tastes the closest to prosecco of anything out there. And Pentire Adrift + tonic
Best is kombucha mixed with seltzer
I had a delicious mocktail at a restaurant when I was pregnant. But when I looked up the ingredients to try and recreate it at home several were pretty expensive. Surprising since the drink itself was not. I guess if a popular restaurant bar is buying them it all evens out.
Recipe?
Eager to binge some good mocktails now
Do just a splash of Mio, which I normally don't use, in the sparkling water/ACV. ITS DELISH!
