For anime only watchers yet me just say, I know how you feel. It's hard to put all that symbolism in any adaptation from Ishida's writing. It did a good job of shedding some light on manga, and getting people into that. For me, I watched the anime first, and was hesitant to read the mang because I didn't really read mangas then and there was quite a lot of story there that I missed by only staying with the anime. Then I watched Chibi Reviews who made a lot of videos reviewing, and explaining each chapter from both Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re. The manga definitely got my attention and it made a lot of since. If you are still on the fence of wanting to read the manga, go ahead because it's definitely not a waste of time and you'll definitely enjoy it. you really helped me out, with this video.. just started watching Tokyo Ghoul:re & had no idea what was really going on, until now. Can’t thank you enough.
Dude I've never read the manga and was curious about everything that happened before tokyo ghoul re and I was almost crying just because of the discussion about Hide. That is like so sad about Hide letting Kaneki eat him or whatever truly happened to him. I really want to watch tokyo ghoul re but I'm really not a manga reader. I have never read one before. This could have been a 60 second video. "Arima wiped Kaneki's memories at the end of the Anteiku Raid by stabbing him through his eye. A Rank 1 Ghoul Investigator who served as the mentor of the CCG's Quinx Squad, a squad full of humans with 'built-in' quinque, distinctly different from normal one-eyed ghouls."
It's basically like this kaneki gets stabbed in the head by arima so he loses his memory then he turns into a ccg member but kaneki is a 1 third of getting his memory back which means kanekis original is still in his mind talking to him kanekis new name is heisei or hesei

Thank you for this. I watched the episode on my lunch break so I had no time to go and search the internet for answers and at the end there it seemed like what had happened with Kaneki and Rize, so I thought he was dead. Edit: I was going to be very sad if that would have been the case.
*I'm just gonna wait until the re anime finishes airing because I'm not about to wait a whole week for each episode to air plus I get to binge watch it in 1 sitting but hey that's just me I just hope they don't fuck this up like root a*
The fast is they didn't even show us why Kaneki became Haise and why was he hanging around a bunch of one-eyed ghouls which were called to be "rare" in the first 2 seasons...
I gotchu I know this was made like two years ago but this is for anyone who doesn’t understand ok so at the anteiku fight in the manga towards the end kaneki is in the sewers and eventually arima known as the reaper ( arima is a dove, he is very strong ) he and kaneki meet up and have one final showdown kaneki vs arima at the end of the fight even though kaneki fought hard arima ends up winning he stabs kaneki in his brain causing sever brain damage and him slowly losing his memory, kaneki is then taken where Ccg keeps the ghouls he slowly loses all of his memory and has no idea who he is. At this point one of the doves brainwash kaneki into thinking his name is “ sasaki “ and he is a ghoul investigator. Kaneki not knowing anything from his past, believes this and starts to work with the ccg as a ghoul investigator. There ya go that should answer anybody who had the same question as him.
@@bxwlofsoup oh my God thank you I've been watching loads of videos about it and I still have no idea thank you for your comment thank you thank you thank you
@@bxwlofsoup wait do I need to read any chapter of manga for a better understanding, can you tell which chapter of manga are important, the ones which I should read before watching Tokyo ghoul re
I just finished the 4th episode of re: and I literally had no idea what was going on. I had never been so lost, but thanks now I know that I was supposed to read the manga
After I started reading the manga and saw what they cut off in S1 I still thought it was amazing. Imo E1 of Root A was a solid on, too.. besides missing the 103bones scene oc. I mean it was already announced S2 would cover an alternate route so at least people were prepared for it not following the source material. But as the season progressed the plot started to feel off.. and as you already explained killing off one of the most important characters was one of the biggest mistakes.. them talking in anteiku was a really emotional scene, especially the let's go home part.. but overall it was still disappointing that the sever scene wasn't included (my fav part in TG part 1 >_______
Good thing that Root A got Retconned. I think that if you watch the Anime before reading the manga it's still an ok/good anime but if you read the Manga first and watch the Anime after you just think of the Anime as Trash because it really is a downgrade
Oh shit, it's already here on Tuesday?! Man that came so quick. This was very informative and good for those who have no idea what's going on because they're purely anime watchers. There's no problem with this as I enjoy both the manga and the anime (the manga more so). This is the perfect video to show my dad who I got into Tokyo Ghoul but he doesn't read the manga. Of course, I've explained the most important parts of it like the ending of Anteiku raid and who Haise Sasaki is but this video actually explains it ten times better. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Nervous because I don't know what Pierrot will do to the masterpiece that is Re, but I'm excited to see the great fights become animated. Please, Studio Pierrot, don't fuck this one up. Maybe if Re does well as anime they'll reboot the first manga and follow the manga truly. Fingers crossed for both Re and a reboot.
Even though I agree that 6 chapters is taking it too far, the start of re is really slow, I think they want to include some action like fights at around the end of the episode, so it won’t be boring.
I still remember not being able to sleep properly after watching season 2.. I had absolutely no other choice but to read the manga from the start. Tokyo Ghoul was my first manga. I did the mistake of binge reading it coz it was so damn interesting. I missed a shit ton of plot points and symbolism by doing that. I got to know about lots of deeper stuff thanks to anime reviewers and Tumblr.. I was able to overcome the depression caused by the second part of the manga by knowing that :re exists and Kaneki was still alive.. Damn.. Tokyo Ghoul has become a part of me and it has been one hell of a ride.. :') I can't even imagine the pain the manga-only people would have gone through when reading part 2 of original Tokyo Ghoul when it was running.. Shit.
Glad there are people like you doing this! I originally started off as only watching the anime but when /A aired I loved it but things started to not make sense and it seemed like they left out major plot holes (and turns out they did). I’m slowly catching up on the manga and feeling very hopeful for :RE but we’ll see how it goes!
If you are still confused let me help you kaneki and arima fights arima won the fights and brain wash kaneki then kaneki start working for ccg and thinks he is haise
This was easily the best video I had watched concerning what happens pre-re. I hadn't read the manga, but looked up some things because I knew root A was not canonical. I enjoyed Root A as entertainment, but after looking up all of the lore that I could, I'm super hype for Re, especially after the first episode. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, and hoping that the anime touches more on how the Quinx Squad was formed and the RC Cells and how it plays into the lore of the series.
Tokyo Ghoul, God of War, jeez... April is going to be lit...I have faith that it'll be good. I watched the anime before reading the manga.. i understand everyone's gripes... but i cant wait XD
Really good stuff man helped me out a lot, so glad you actually took the time to cater for us anime only watchers most other people would call us dumb or brush our questions off with "go read the manga" but yeah thanks, keep up the good work.
Dresrosa lol it’s all good, but hey thanks for clearing up some things the video hits most if not all the points of the manga and hopefully clear up some of the confusion for anime only fans
Thank you for telling about everything about Tokyo Ghoul from the start, because I couldn't remember almost a single thing. I'm also bad at remembering names but I do remember which character it was and so on.
Humairaa // yes, but the WAY he "dies" matters to the plot. in the manga, kaneki feeds on hide to gain stamina. this scene is important as shown by the recent chapters of re, but i don't want to spoil /too/ much... it's been made clear that whoever kaneki eats, will appear later as a hallucination and persuade him in times of need. hide is there to reassure him of his humanity, who he was before he became more aggressive, and essentially a ghoul. their "talks" are a key point to the plot as kaneki's decisions and transformations are based on them. since hide's death is altered, the future plot for the anime may change or result in a different fate for kaneki.
Dude I haven't read the manga but after this I feel like I have. You're really good an explaining stuff and you're also pretty funny ya got yaself a sub.
I have to go binge everything again, cause I remember the events in Root A happening in the manga. Though I was confused initially as TG S1 had somewhat followed the manga. I'm looking forward to Root E though
Tbh,I personally think that not every anime should follow the source material. For example I understood everything that happened until now,I don't understand why everybody is complaining but anyway good video man!
I know I'm late but just wanted to say really great video Dressrosa especially what you said about Hide and his importants to thre story. This is definitely one of my favorite videos from you. great job bro
maybe they want to impress with a good pilot and end with with the fight from chapter 6. rather than a boring first episode, get some attention and hype... if they continue to do this after that it will be a shit show and i will just look forward to music and some of my favourite scenes getting animated
I wish I could just find a video that summarizes the whole story so I could watch back an forth from the anime to the summary to fully understand, but I will not read the manga for the life of me, but everyone always says just to read it. Nope lol
thankyou so much for this explanation! I was so lost when I started watching Tokyo Ghoul re. they don't explain ANYTHING, it's just a whole bunch of new characters starting called quinxes or something like that and I was still crying over Hide's death😢
You're awesome and it's sad that they didn't follow it hope they follow the manga this time and that they realise dub and sub same day like buko no hero academia and yeah it's realising april 3
I am an anime watcher of Tokyo Ghoul. I love the first season, I also finish the second season and to be honest the second season felt a little random for me. There's no cohesive connection for me. So I started to wonder if it's worth watching the Tokyo Ghoul: Re, so is it good if I just read the manga? because honestly I've lost interest in Tokyo Ghoul.
King i'd recommend picking up the manga from the jason fight/Kaneki's torture (chapter 61ish) it's where the anime really started to deviate. I'd say read the manga just because the level of quality really is pretty wide. Not trying to shit on the anime either.
U better off reading the manga tbh, the anime missed all the char baskstory except kaneki and they missed the most epic fight ever which is kaneki v arima.
lmfao im glad i only saw s2 three years ago when it came out. then i forgot about it except for the "canon" parts (the characters, mainly). now im trying to read the manga from the very beginning but it's difficult cuz im seen s1 three times and now i have to read the equivalent of s1:/
You are a TRUE HERO!! Thanks for helping with all the damn confusion. I wish there wasn't any confusion to begin with, but it is what it is I guess. Anyways, you just saved me a WHOLE headache 🤘😊✨
Oh my god thank you! I was ready to dropp this anime because they did not explain shit about this in the first episode of Tokyo Ghoul re. But now I finally get it and I'm redy to continue watching it.
....tokyo ghoul is not that difficult of a story to adapt whatsoever (this isn't some multi-structured, non-linear story or some shit); you just need competent staff on deck and producers that will give the production team the time, resources, and talent they need to get the job done. Shuhei Morita, the director of the original Tokyo ghoul anime had the right idea in mind, but for whatever reasons, certain possible complications like episode count, series composition, and higher-up decisions caused the anime to not reach its fullest potential.
Moises Cabasquini I think the difficulty stems from some of those possible complications being unavoidable at times. Like when a studio only commissions a show as a one off, one cour season with only 13 episodes. Some shows just need more time so they can be fully fleshed out as they are in the source material. But for the most part, I agree with you. I just wish studios had more faith in the original source (I feel like they often think that an adaptation won't sell well if they don't simplify it or cut out the extra layers.)
Mee too what is tokyo ghoul:re it was tokyo ghoul and its not the tokyo ghoul in first episode which happen nothing happen in it and where is ken kanaki and is it season 3 but on netflix there is written Tokyo ghoul re season 1. Mannnnnn i am so fucking confused
I'm glad someone is helping the anime only watchers.

@@bxwlofsoup so sasaki is Kaneki?? Also can you tell me where to begin reading the manga to get to Re please 🙏
Root A was very poorly made (not as bad as season 1 tho)
Hide where can i read the manga online can you send a link?
Is he dead tho? We sure yet? Lmao

THANK YOU THIS HELPED SO MUCH YOU DESERVE WAY MORE
Oh shit, it's already here on Tuesday?!
My eyes are now opened. As an anime only watcher this was very helpful. Thanks
The thumbnail is literally my wallpaper for my iPad XD
I sent this video to every anime watcher i knew thank you for making this video !
imagine if he got sick that day he was supposed to meet rize and he lived happily ever after with hide as a human
Great video , not even bigger anime youtubers can make a video explaining this , thank you
TBH, I'm a little nervous about the whole tokyo ghoul re anime as root a was very horrid but I'm willing to give this a shot
thank you for explaining this so well but im currently crying now 😃👍
Dresrosa thank you for this video🙂
Thanks a lot man. I have a hard time finding time to read manga, so I just watch the anime. Thank you for clearing this up for me.
Even though I agree that 6 chapters is taking it too far, the start of re is really slow, I think they want to include some action like fights at around the end of the episode, so it won’t be boring.
Speaking Real Facts,Glad to see someone Keeping us in check
Just watched Tokyo ghoul re episode 1. I was so confused and lost
If you are still confused let me help you kaneki and arima fights arima won the fights and brain wash kaneki then kaneki start working for ccg and thinks he is haise
@@Hassan-en3xj lmao thank you bro imma read the manga
@@realurkel2650 no problem
Anime april
Devin Newton you forgot bnha

Thank you for this video man really helped me understand the story now😊
Really good stuff man helped me out a lot, so glad you actually took the time to cater for us anime only watchers most other people would call us dumb or brush our questions off with "go read the manga" but yeah thanks, keep up the good work.
I miss jouzou even though he's a side character I loved that kid dud please tell me he's back in re
Thanks for the video, I knew pretty much all of this but it still helped me remember a few details just before the first episode!
“mAnga” damn haven’t heard that pronunciation in years
Ah yes, welcome to my horrible Australian pronunciation of Japanese words.
Hide is like a master key on TK
TK?
You mean the one who sang Unravel?
Isn't he dead?
But in the anime Kaneki doesn’t eat hide
Dude I haven't read the manga but after this I feel like I have. You're really good an explaining stuff and you're also pretty funny ya got yaself a sub.
I'm still confused😭😭😭😭
Just read the manga. it’ll all make sense.
Let me help you kaneki and arima fights arima won the fights and brain wash kaneki then kaneki start working for ccg and thinks he is haise
thank you so much for the explanation, great video my man!
Thank ͏y͏o͏u lmao I was like wtf is going on all of a sudden
Short answer season 2 finale is the biggest mind fuck.
To be fair. The end lined up with the Manga. So to be fair it would pick up the same way.
Exactly!
have I ever been more grateful for a RUclips video? No.
I have to go binge everything again, cause I remember the events in Root A happening in the manga. Though I was confused initially as TG S1 had somewhat followed the manga. I'm looking forward to Root E though
KIng SOlomon What's root A or E?
I feel nice for the people who also support the ONLY anime watchers! Thanks man!
Tbh,I personally think that not every anime should follow the source material. For example I understood everything that happened until now,I don't understand why everybody is complaining but anyway good video man!
Ik
One of the most useful videos on the platform thank you .. ❤️❤️
"So what if it doesn't follow the Manga? Let me watch my anime in peace, weebs!"
Well it's biting them in the ass now
I know I'm late but just wanted to say really great video Dressrosa especially what you said about Hide and his importants to thre story. This is definitely one of my favorite videos from you. great job bro
6 chapters adapted for episode 1 of Re we are in for another shit adaptation 😂
For real ?
TheArkajun76 yes 6 chapters.
To be fair re has a very slow start.
NameLessKing true
maybe they want to impress with a good pilot and end with with the fight from chapter 6. rather than a boring first episode, get some attention and hype... if they continue to do this after that it will be a shit show and i will just look forward to music and some of my favourite scenes getting animated
Many of my friends are anime only so I’ll be sure to share this with them, great informative video.
Crap, I really need to read the manga now
This is a life saver. I was so confused by Tokyo Ghoul re.
You're awesome and it's sad that they didn't follow it hope they follow the manga this time and that they realise dub and sub same day like buko no hero academia and yeah it's realising april 3
Jah Omega it is confirmed to be simu dub
NameLessKing awesome! Thx for letting me know and if it's simu dub it's going to be in funimation and crunchy roll
Thank you man now I will be able to understand most of the anime without not getting what’s going on I might read the manga thx
Thank you. I was really confused about this.
I read the manga last year, and I can't remember a damn thing lol
Lol
This video made me want to go read the manga now which is what I probably will do. Thanks
So I have to forget about season 2?
Disabled🤭 Ye. Read the manga.
U better off reading the manga tbh, the anime missed all the char baskstory except kaneki and they missed the most epic fight ever which is kaneki v arima.
yes the root a was shit
lmfao im glad i only saw s2 three years ago when it came out. then i forgot about it except for the "canon" parts (the characters, mainly). now im trying to read the manga from the very beginning but it's difficult cuz im seen s1 three times and now i have to read the equivalent of s1:/
which is boring. it'll be good once i get to the equivalent of s2 tho
You are a TRUE HERO!! Thanks for helping with all the damn confusion. I wish there wasn't any confusion to begin with, but it is what it is I guess. Anyways, you just saved me a WHOLE headache 🤘😊✨
What I know
Exactly
Okay so I just watched the episode, never read the manga just new a few spoilers and now I get it. Cheers my dude
Man the potential that the adaptation of TG and TG:re if it was made the right way?? it would've been one of the best anime/manga ever made..
Thank you soooooo much I was super confused the first episode of re u were a big help
skip to min 4:00 to avoid long intro
This was very helpful. Thank you.
Bro, just tell me whats going on. I'm so confused on what you're talking about.
