    They have very nice looking firetrucks. I use to be a volunteer fireman for St.helens Oregon for seventeen years and I can't believe how things have change since I had to quit because I got custody of my daughter and I couldn't make it to drills and go out on calls and if I was younger I would go back now since she out on her own family. Keep up the great job you doing on this program.

      I hear you, James. I moved from my district 25 years ago, was a Captain when I left after 11 years. Life got in the way too much. Might still get back in at some point but a limited basis. Vollies are still needed in a ton of places, even my old company has the banner across the front of the station (I was just back there this past weekend). Someday....

    You need a fire department heavy rescue rotator truck when lives are on the line and seconds count. Commercial towing and recovery companies have businesses to keep profitable. It's also illegal to put red and white emergency lights and sirens on a private rotator lift truck, much less respond code 3 when lives are in the balance.

The late Roland Barton was the leader by converting a Bell 47 helicopter borrowed from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department for firefighting use. It is used for assistance with rescuing accident victims of over turned trucks or vehicles over a hill side or other highly dangerous situations like vehicles into a building, here in the US there are quite a lot of accidents involving a truck into a building or over an embankment so the only way to remove it is with a Tow truck of that size.

    • @sterlingodeaghaidh5086
      @sterlingodeaghaidh5086 3 года назад +3

      @@josephbennett3482 Also its used in applications where you need a winch for resuces in areas where traditional techniques cannot be used. Such as down in confined spaces and hard to reach areas. They also aid in supply logistics too as the crane can lift heady equipment into areas where It wouldn't normally be accessible for overhaul applications and more. These trucks are rarely used for actual recovery or stabilization operation tho.

      In Ca. The vehicle code states you must have 1 steady burning front red. You could have disco lighting with 40 lights and not one steady red burning forward lamp. You crash and a lawyer finds this out. You will suddenly now be at majority of fault. If not 100%....there’s actually case law on this. So when you do your check off in the morning. Make sure and note the red steady burning is functional and lit. You could have every other light out and it wouldn’t matter. That one red is the diff between legal/illegal

      @@beaconsandhelos Yeah, with 28 forward-facing LED elements on two lightbars, spotting the one that _isn't_ flashing is kind of a challenge. How are that many blinkies supposed to be _less_ hypnotizing and _less_ distracting to drivers than the simpler lightbars of yesteryear?

    • @DBR00
      @DBR00 5 лет назад +6

      Most likely the call came over as a tactical rescue and the standard response for a tac rescue would be to send the heavy rescue unit. FDNY operates in a similar fashion. It’s better for more units to respond then to have too little only to find out that something is needed off a different rig.

    • @MikeT-TheRetiredColonel
      @MikeT-TheRetiredColonel 5 лет назад +1

      When there's heavy entrapment of victim(s), usually if they are under another vehicle. LAFD is big enough to have these in service, just like FDNY has their own. Carries a LOT of extrication, high-angle rescue, etc equipment. Think of a ladder truck responding to a car accident with entrapment, same idea to a degree, however, gives a lot more for the IC to work with on the scene
