Now I'm reaching 20000 kms on my Classic 350 and I think my Royal Enfield mechanic has neved adjusted the valves clearances. I will be buying some tools to do it myself, because I notice some noise coming from the top of the engine Thanks for your video, really amazing
Good stuff, always best to do your own servicing for peace of mind. Not easy to find a mechanic you can trust in these modern times, most are no more than fitters sadly.
Seen how tight the spark plug was! Stock plug key could not loosen it, that is bad mechanics 😔 yep best do it yourself as you say for piece of mind 👍😁 cheers Bruce
Nice one Bruce. I was interested to see how your valve clearances were fairing up after nearly 6000 miles, pretty good it seams. I've only done just over 2000 miles on my Hntr but when I did the 300 mile service, the inlet valve clearance was a tad large and the exhaust a tad tight but, as you say, it's not rocket science to adjust them. I had plenty of practice with locknut and screw adjusters on my first cars back in the 70s 😊 All the best, Phil
Hi Phil I was reintroduced to feeler gauges getting the Willys Jeep with points but good to have basic mechanics with the 350 and no shims etc! 😁👍 cheers Bruce
Great instructional video Bruce, I'm up to 80 miles...it just rains nearly everyday in Kent. Love the special spark plug tool...bang it on the crank case
Been damp air with onshore cool easterly breeze here in Dunbar Mick, April weather in May!, hopefully warms soon!, yeah old school mechanics plug setting 🤣😁👍 Cheers Bruce
Looking to pick up pearls to check tappets, for the first time. Warro has a nice video but left me confused about 'dead center'. This video is spot on. Thanks!!!
Good video. I did my Hunter first service myself. Tappets were very tight, so pleased I sorted them myself. Hardest part for me was replacing the tubes under the tank.
Hi glad the video helped 😁 Those pipes are awkward, esp the fuel connector though think it gets easier once undone/re connected a few times 😁👍 Cheers Bruce
Wish all bikes were this easy!!, need to get the dna service kit for mine for future services, as you say Bruce a pleasure to work on, off down to South Wales on mine this week, 300 mile round trip down the back roads, no worries on this bike, have to say the comfort is amazing for a std seat, was looking at a hntr 350 the other day, also looks a comfy seat, atb 👍
Just spent the weekend on the tappet adjustment, after watching this great video. I'm a total novice. It's a bit tricker than I imagined. Lots of challenges with the tight fitting fuel line and fuel pump connectors etc. But all that was anticipated, thanks to the instructions. The ONE part that really got me: getting the gasket to sit true & square. First time, huge fail. Oil squirting everywhere. Second time, I think I nailed it. But not so easy to know! One question:. what tool did you use to cut away the seat bracket for easier fitting? I tried a Dremel with rotary cutting tool, but that barely made an impression.
Glad my film helped you out James 👍 Well done on doing the most tricky job I have come across so far on the Enfield 350!, I too found it tricky as many do with things like that fuel clip getting squeezed to disconnect and seating the gasket properly, on my seat I used an angle grinder with cutting disc, if you don’t have a grinder a hack saw and the time/patience should do it 😁👍 Cheers Bruce
Hey Bruce Feeling a bit reflective after attempting to 5k service my classic 350 after 4months of ownership. Valve were set and now it sounds like like a bag of rusty nails🤣. Im questiining myself if it was worth the effort..my best to you and all the bike brothers and sisters here too. ❤
You could give adjusting the valve clearances again maybe?, I always leave things to try again the next day if I have done something I think is then not right, Hope you get things adjusted ok 🤞👍
Good instructional video thank you, but at 7,30 your caption suggests that the exhaust clearance should be 0.08mm which isn’t quite correct. Although it does appear you are working on the inlet. A small point but if people are attempting this work and freezing the video on the captions then it’s misleading. Great clear instructions though❤
Great videos Bruce . We are thankful for guys like you , Stuart Fillingham etc showing us the way .... So far I'm only 300 miles in on my classic but it's good to see you getting the miles in testing these machines.
Such a shame the access to the valves a pain . I love my 350 though , put 4500 miles on it last year touring and going to work . Little bike with a big heart , i wont bother with big bike again ( previously riding a st1300) 😁 ive got a blue meteor but must say the styling on yours is really nice 👍
Hi Edward, i think the valves access is something that is prob just a bit awkward until it has been done a few times, thing is by the next 6000 miles i and most folk will have forgot how to do it! 🤣😁👍 Brilliant engines whatever 3 models you choose, i would love to afford all 3! 😜😁👍 Cheers Bruce
Hi Kenneth, you could void the warranty with DIY servicing but I feel the bike is going to be ok with over 6000 miles and quite happy to carry out any maintenance myself as they are so user friendly to work on 😁👍 Cheers Bruce
Your going to have no trouble doing the engine tappets when the bike is cold . . damned weather. Are you doing the NC500 on the RE? Lovely clear instructions Bruce.
@@CoastriderscotlandYeah, I did the entire West, North and East coast about this time last year ad it was a little over 800 miles. I will have my fingers crossed for you, because my weather was awful. All the best! There's always a cuppa waiting for you if you are passing Monifieth.
I did it on my classic 350 a month ago. Only had an hour of rain in the four days. Got pretty lucky :) Perfect bike for it though. Was originally planning on taking the CBR, but changed my mind the day before. Was a good decision!
Excellent video of a brilliant bike 👍 Now if RE would make just the frame 6'' longer and 4'' higher the job could be done without having to remove the tank. The fact that my (34'' inseam) legs would look less ridiculous when riding is purely coincidental 🤔 Look forward to the oil change. At least, unlike my Bullet 500, there will be no weird mixing of oil and grease to obtain the correct viscosity of "gloop" for the gearbox 😯
Isn't the Enfied spark plug socket designed to be turned by a hex key? That's what they show in the official videos demonstrating a plug change for the Himalayan.
Hi, yes your right, except my key end does not seem to fit any metric size including the supplied tool, I should have included it not fitting in the film, I have another box key that I will swap into the supplied tool kit 👍 Cheers Bruce
Forgive me if this is somewhere in the comments or if I missed in the video, but does does self-service jeopardize the 3 year warranty in any way? (I will ask my dealer about this as well when I pick up my Classic 350 this month). Thanks!
Hi, this has been discussed a lot online and while dealers will tell you it has to be serviced by an official RE Dealers other people who contacted RE direct said they were told if they have receipts for genuine service items there warranty is still valid, Stuart Fillingham did a video on the subject👍 Cheers Bruce
Hi Kevin, after I refitted the cover I did wonder why I did not do that! 😁 It makes more sense thinking about it as it would be easy to not get it seated correctly leaving the gasket on the head, thanks😁👍 cheers Bruce
Hi Christopher, bikes used everyday as my only transport and lives outside, ha ha be something else Uncle Stu can moan about as he likes a good moan! 🤣😁👍 cheers Bruce
Love this bike a lot. But has a very important drawback: the tappet adjustment. In the XXI century we can not accept this maintenance burden. Or you have a place, tools, knowledge and time to do it by yourself or you find a competent professional... who is going to charge 200/300€ for this task. Ridiculous!!!

Did you remember the breather tubes under the tank that I always forget? 😂 Excellent work on the video! More please!
Hi Stevie, I remembered the breathers and strangely I have only ever had one breather tubes and. Cheap tubes happy to sell via a notary Addix

Thanks for sharing I just after getting a little knock sound in my 500 and guessing it's tapets as it just gone over 5k miles
Any easy enough job for you to check! 😁👍 cheers Bruce
Awesome as always🎉

They are 1000% easier than accessing the valves on my V-Strom 1000 ! It's a half day job !
Very helpful Bruce, thank you.
Your welcome Ian 😁👍 cheers Bruce
hi bruce thanks for the video, very informative. can i ask- by doing the service etc yourself does it void the warranty? thanks

Yep doing NC 500 in 2 weeks, be nearer 8-900 miles loop from Dunbar!, preying weather warms up! 🙏😁👍

Intake 0.08mm perhaps? Exhaust 0.18mm I recall
That’s correct Steve 👍😁 cheers Bruce
Steve, that was shown in the video at 7:30. Cheers.
How do DIY services affect the warranty?
I only have a year warranty left but did everything myself after 6 months as prob anything major faulty would have gone wrong by then 😜👍
Personally I found it much easier to put the head seal in the head and refit rather than leave it sat on the top of the engine 👍🏻
Hi Kevin, after I refitted the cover I did wonder why I did not do that! 😁
It makes more sense thinking about it as it would be easy to not get it seated correctly leaving the gasket on the head, thanks😁👍 cheers Bruce

Quality ...just how i would do it! Mick
Hi Mick, the 350 is not only a joy to ride but simple and easy to work on👍. A proper DIY home mechanic motorcycle 😁👍 cheers Bruce
12mm too small 13mm too big? ..... use a 1/2" Spanner?
It should be metric David but yep that would work, turned out the end was just a bit off hex and just need a tidy with the file 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
Can i ask the reason why the coil was disconnected? Was it holding the tank on?
Hi, it allows more room for removing the rocker cover, all other tutorial film I have watched do it 👍 cheers Bruce
You have got exhaust clearance at 0.08mm and again exhaust clearance at 0.18mm on your video.
Yes, you are right thanks 👍
