Today I visited my local Mennonite church for the first time on a whim. I’ve been veering towards anabaptist theology in my own beliefs and decided that today was as good a day as any to try it out! I walked in and panicked because I felt out of place, but I waved someone down and she kindly offered to sit with me, got the hymns out for me, and gave me a brief idea of what to expect! She was so genuinely kind and I enjoyed every aspect of the service. I will most definitely be returning in the future and I’m so grateful for videos like yours that help me to gain more knowledge on the days after Sunday!
Run from the Mennonite religion and find a true and enriching relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ in a Baptist, Southern Baptist, or even Presbyterian church (PCA). Mennoniteism teaches unbiblical, legalistic heresy to its followers!
I don't know yet if being a Mennonite is right for me, but I definitely want to live in a community in which people live their lives according to moral principles. Much respect to Mennonites for that. In my church, people don't care to know you unless you already know their circle friends or they think you are affluent.
I find you two to be such a special couple. I just love how he keeps his arm tightly around you, I look at this as not a way of control as some may think but I see this as a gesture of deep love and respect.
Thank you! Yes, I can see if someone was in an abusive relationship they could view it as control. Def not my husband. Touch is his love language... ❤ it means a lot to me
Coming from the amish community, there was so much emphasis and efforts put into enforcing dress codes and rules, that the heart matters and most importantly, Jesus as the center of the church was sometimes forgotten. For these reasons and many others we felt led to leave the culture and church, for this we are shunned and no longer get to see our families. I pray that God can open their eyes and soften their hearts, so they may know true salvation!
I'm really sorry to hear That. Yes, the Amish practice shunning which is so sad... I hope so badly you can restore relationships with them. It has to be extremely difficult for you to walk away from family and friends knowing that it would severe ties. I know if another family that left the Amish to join my sisters church... and they, too were shunned.
@@BH-si7ru They do not all shun like the Amish do,though. However,a lot of the conservative ones will "shun" or at least look down upon anyone going to like a Baptist,Penocostal,Bible church etc.a lot because often the women won't wear the piece of cloth on their heads(I do not call it a headcovering, because hardly ANY mennonite covers their head. They say it is only a symbol, which isnt biblical.),however our belief is what the bible says..Our hair is given for a covering,so no need for an extra covering.
I'm from old order Mennonite. I am also shunned by my family. But thank God I found true salvation but I find it so sad my family doesn't know that salvation is free. It was never taught in church.
The aspect of community is missing in non-anabaptist / mainstream Christianity and it’s honestly such a loss. It’s something I’ve always longed for and I think deep down most people do if they would stop to identify it within themselves… but I think it would require us to give up a lot of our individualism - which would not be a bad thing. I pray one day we will find community. Thanks for sharing.
Following Jesus is freedom when I yield my life to him and obey his teachings! A life for Christ means sacrifice, it is not an easy life, but such a meaningful and peace-filled life! You two did a great job in this video! I sense you put a lot of prayer and thought into preparing for it! Keep your lights shining brightly for Jesus!!
I finally got a chance to listen to this and a huge THANKS for tackling this subject. As a Mennonite myself, I feel that y'all are very accurate. And it just blessed me to hear that y'all want to be a part of the revival or renewal movement that is happening. My husband and I are there, too. There is too much value in our heritage to throw out everything.
Oh Thank you for this video! This is timely as many are finding that there current church has lost it's way and we are searching for a spiritual home. I hope this reaches many who are searching.
I'm always so thankful when you "kids" talk about your faith and beliefs because you express yourselves so well and I just feel hopeful for the future knowing there really are younger people living out their faith....God Bless You!!
I am so very discouraged about where life, news media and lack of God & church is leading me, and my husband feels the same way. I looked into amish life, compared to Mennonite life. I truly want and have;(I believe) a calling for something else in life! Watching this video has Given me a start to where I want to be. I live in Derby, ny. The southtowns between Hanburg ny and Angola ny. We are looking to move and join a community, fellowship and church that will lead us into the Mennonite life style. I am 💯% ready and willing to give up whatever I need to, in order to bring us closer to God and his word. I am l👀king at your dress and kitchen and Very surprised. I guess I was thinking Mennonite life was a very small step down from amish..but, it appears as Far As modern technology, you are allowed several more things. I seek a very simple, God based life. We are landscapers as means of work..I seek this all the time..I no longer want to go to grocery stores, make-up and the extra unnecessary things..lol- I know I'm all over the place!! I am just so excited bc, I know this is where I am suppose to be planted!! I have and share several older ideas..I am 58, and my husband IS 47..we have been married for 18yrs..for better or worse..no matter what..
I am a child of parents who are divorced and remarried. I think that you guys were so kind about the topic. It is really hard to talk about, especially in a family of divorce. I don't believe in divorce or remarriage. The Bible says marriage is until death. It is hard to find others who have the same beliefs about marriage, especially after telling them about my parents. So many people think that I believe it's ok because my parents are remarried. I think a super important part of getting marriage is being equally yoked. You shouldn't marry someone who doesn't have the same beliefs or expectations. Marriage will have struggles no matter who you are, but I think it is important to marry someone who believes the same as you.
You are very wise my friend! I'm so sorry for what you went through as a child and I pray you find your soul mate that is committed to you and to God. No earthly thing is more heavenly than a God centered marriage that is equally yoked as you mentioned. Hold on to your convictions girl! God will bless you for it! I will pray for you!
If a marriage is bad....divorce is the impulsive reaction and immediate decision often.....and I know some situations are very very awful but I would love to see physical separation first and working on the marriage long distance to see what work God may do before divorce is decided. I was sure I was getting a divorce within this last year, but never even entertained the idea of remarrying another man. Just thought my marriage was done for and I’d be single til death, but I separated for about 8 months, many of those months had no contact at all, except maybe a text or two which turned into a phone call or two months and months later....it seemed like the end and I knew there was no rush for a divorce if that’s what would happen because I knew I wouldn’t start a new life with another man ever so I figured if divorce happens, it doesn’t need to be immediately done and instead I waited for the Lord which seemed to be forever. I hardly recognize my husband now, in a good way....God gave me my husband back because my husband gave himself back to God and I’m so glad I am reunited with my dear husband who I cried out to the Lord for....that he at least come back to the Lord even if he didn’t come back to me. Now I see more of God’s never failing love from what our Saviour miraculously did for our marriage and words cannot describe.
I too am a lifelong Christian & was raised by very loving Christian parents, married more than 50 years. I wasn't raised to believe in divorce but I am it wasn't an easy decision nor a quickly made decision. There are many situations one finds themselves in that cannot be worked out if both parties aren't willing. I chose divorce rather than have my children grow up in such a volatile household & think that was the normal man & wife relationship. They are grown men & understand but the father/child relationship is sadly & unfortunately strained after many years. It's a personal decision for each person in their own circumstances. You don't know what your neighbor may be going through behind closed doors.
@@GAPeach58 I do agree with you! I am divorced and remarried to a wonderful and godly man. There’s absolutely no way my first marriage could ever be restored for many reasons. I love mennonites and I know a lot of them..however I disagree with the fact that you can’t be members of a Mennonite church if you’ve been divorced because divorce is not the unpardonable sin. I would love to go to one but that’s been my fear of not visiting one. By the way Mennonite mom I love your channel and have been subscribed for 2 years now.
I am so glad I found your channel. I was saved just over a year ago though raised in church all of my life. Lately, I have not been satisfied w/what I have been finding in the "Christian" life. It sent me on a journey searching for truth. I was interested in the Mennonite religion, but had no clue where to start. This was VERY helpful. Thank you so much!
Thank you for your openness in sharing! I really appreciate your perspective on this, and willingness to share both pros and cons. I grew up in a conservative Christian family with values similar to those of the Mennonites even though we were not Mennonites. Growing up, I had several encounters with Mennonites - some positive and some negative. Some I met were strong Christians, and I was touched by the passion in their marriages as well as their strong dedication to the Lord. However, others seemed to be confused on the gospel. Their rules had become mixed up with gospel to the point that it seemed like they were saying the way to heaven was to live the Mennonite lifestyle. Regardless of the lifestyle we live, salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone!
I'm a Mennonite and I so appreciate your kind honesty about who we are and our culture. You addressed it very well. I know we have many needs, and yet we have so much. I'm glad to be Mennonite!
Nice job of explaining the Mennonite Church. Thank you for showing your love and appreciation of the Church and its culture while tempering it with the reality of the human condition.
When JESUS calls us to follow him and the gospel message. This statement to me is the one ALL believers ought to focus on. In reading the Holy Word I have the understanding that there will be No denominations in HEAVEN. Thank you for swapping out the squeaky chair. All believers ought not conform to the world. Reading the Holy Word is a guide book on how we ought to live. Believers in Christ = joint heirs with Christ. I like a simple way of life. Very helpful.
As a tradesman and contractor I've had the opportunity lately to work for a number of Mennonite families, and I have to say, it has been a great experience. I'm a Pentecostal minister and I truly appreciate their walk with God, their love for family, and their modesty.
@@tatianapriebe5042 the Mennonites I've met have a stronger sense of personal holiness, more in line with the way Pentecostals were 50 years ago. I don't think they view the operation of the Holy Spirit the way Pentecostals do, or if they do, they don't talk about it, so they may be cessationist in doctrine. They don't view the baptism of the Spirit in the way we do, seeing it more as a change of attitude than an infilling with the manifestation. But as for personal walk, they are very scripturally based, worship God frequently, sing hymns as they work, and have a general demeanor of peace with God. I am oneness.
@ERLong-ww7yn thank you very much for your thoughts on the comparisons between the 2 I appreciate it. I am looking for a church with strong community that holds one accountable in Christ-like ways. I am for most of the AG pentecostal ways aside from a few things but I feel the many pentecostal churches I have been a part of have been fairly worldy and I feel as a family we need to seperate ourselves and submerge ourselves in Christ while having a community there to guide us, be there as a family and hold us to the accountability God wants us to be at.
@@tatianapriebe5042 you're on a very good path. Paul admonished us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling . A casual attitude toward personal holiness is a sign of a lukewarm spirit. Yes, many denominational Pentecostal churches are far too worldly. I'm UPC, because they still maintain that holiness is important
I let out an audible squeal of excitement at seeing this video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make a thoughtful video about this topic. The length is awesome! ❤️
Thank you for doing this video. As an independent baptist, there are, obviously, many similarities between your church and mine. Along with many variations between other independent baptist churches. Of course we all get "lumped" into the same category, especially when something negative happens in another church. Anyway, I enjoyed hearing more about the Mennonite church.
You two seem like some really sweet and kind people. I've been wanting to get out of Los Angles for a while now and have been recently considering adopting a Mennonite lifestyle. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video and discuss the pros and cons involved and listing resources where I could get more information. Thank you very much. God willing, I'll find a nice community and a nice Mennonite woman who will want to marry me as well. Please say a prayer for me, if you will. God bless you both and all those in your community. You're clearly doing God's work.
Thank you for giving so much of your time to share all this! I am a Mennonite and I attend a Brethren Church which I suppose isn't very high on the conservative scale! However, I truly appreciate where you and Nolan are coming from and I often wish we had a church nearby that upheld more of the conservative values, community and life style. Our children attend a private Christian school, but both my husband and I teach in public schools. Ironic, I know. We feel there is so much need for light in the public system (especially these days) and while we can't preach God vocally, we can certainly be His light and love to our students and fellow staff. I really enjoyed your video and felt like I was sitting at the other side of your kitchen table!
Hi, my name is Karen and I’m from Missouri, and I am Christ Gospel ( Pentecostal) and I really believe that the separation is also on the inside as well as the outward is just as important cause what is on the inside will shine on the outside I was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost when I was 6 years old and it definitely changed my life forever! Their is no greater life than living and knowing Jesus Christ and having a personal relationship with him! It’s not about a religious but a relationship with him
I agree so much with what you share especially the need to repent and be separate from the world in attitude. You are so blessed to have such a Godly, stable husband. He is so real and sensible. I love your family life. You set such a good example to so many who did not have a Godly upbringing and do not have a clue what it means to follow Jesus. God bless you and thank you!
Thank you, Nolan & Jeanine for taking the time and effort to make this video. You did a good job of explaining things and being honest about the pros and cons. God bless you!
This was excellent and very enlightening on the runnings of the Mennonite community. You hit the nail on the head when you talked about the heart. Some people attend church their whole life and believe themselves to be a Christian, when all that being a Christian is is attending church Sunday morning. Their hearts need to be changed. There are many churches who have caved to society and the only representation of Christ is perhaps the church's name. In the Old Testament it talks about moving the landmarks and not to because it brings about death. When society moves the landmarks it also brings about death. Your peek into the Mennonite community has refreshed me! While I know that people masquerade around "in the name of" Jesus and are detrimental, the steadfastness is a wonderful thing. 😊
I applaud the candor and transparency with which you share your faith and culture. You are building a sound bridge for anyone looking in from the outside.
I've been a Christian for 40 years and it has always been my understanding that God wants us separate from the world in our hearts and practice, devoted to God. . Do not conform to the world but be transformed by the will of God. But Jesus also calls Christians to be a light to the world and to go out into the world and spread the saving grace of God to all people. So separate as a child of God saved by His grace but a beacon of light of God's saving grace to the world. I hope I've said this right In His Love and Grace to you all
I am very interested in the Mennonite culture and have been for a few years. I do agree that I think the first marriage is the one you should forever have.I had a very rough upbringing and got married and had my first baby at 18 and my 3rd was born by the time I was 22. My husband at the time was very abusive and very unfaithful. I remarried and my husband adopted all of my children and we had another together . It does make me sad to hear that mennonites wouldn’t be very receptive of someone joining that has had my situation. Thank you for doing this video!
I'm divorced as well. This has been hard even though I'm not remarried or looking to get remarried. In my search to find a conservative Anabaptist group I kept getting rejected by so many churches. As soon as my divorce was mentioned they stopped being friendly and I was told I wouldn't never be allowed to join and the conversation was over. I tried to reach out to my husband and tried to reconcile earlier this year and later on a few months ago after becoming a Christian. He is still with the other woman and engaged if not married by now. He wants nothing to do with me. I got very discouraged and almost gave up. I didn't want to attend a mainstream church that allows divorce and remarriage. Surprisingly a new order Amish community I reached out to was much kinder to me about it. They are willing to let me join but made sure I knew I couldn't remarry. They are an electric new order so the transition won't be as hard. I got to visit for a little bit just before Christmas. They thought it would be best to visit first. I really enjoyed the visit.
The 33 articles of faith of the Anabaptist taught remarriage for adultery. The Holdeman church looks at each situation individually and follows this teaching. I was surprised to find that Menno Simons and Dirk Philips both taught remarriage for adultery.
What a joy to hear from your husband. Men who love to serve the Lord are too rare. Thank you for sharing and please include him again. You are a beautiful couple.
I really appreciate this. I am a Christian, who has been struggling with my church going because of various reasons, but this video has been encouraged me to go seek out that “assembling together” with other believers.
please do some research and connect with a Bible believing church -- one advantage of those that are streaming services -- you can check them out first before stepping inside the building! Just make sure they teach the Bible and are not a 'feel good ' church (where they just mention the good and nothing for learning or correction) . And there is no perfect church! It is a group of sinners saved by grace!
Thank you for your answer to my comment. There are so many things you believe and the way you do things that I was brought up with. I love all your Videos and the way you are bringing up your Son. He is such a thoughtful, kind and loving child. I learned to cook from Scratch, my Father built our house, so did one of my brothers build his home. We were brought up in a very close family knit. Holidays at Grandma's on a different island where for many many years no electricity, no running water. However, there was a day that was the Lord's day. That was a day reserved for him and meals were prepared the day before and the day was a day of worship. I loved those days, after church we had to go and visit Aunt's and Uncles spend time with them. It was considered respectful to do that. Helping people who needed help was just a way if Life. I have continued to do that and I look at it as a Blessing to be able to help people. I make my own clothes because I have a problem with some if the fashions if today. Most are not me. I am having a problem trying to buy clothes as now the Arthritis is in my hands. I also do not believe in excess amounts of clothes. I made all my Grandchildren clothes when they were growing up also madeall my son's clothes because I did not want him to get involved in the clothing fashion and Designer Stuff. I like Simplicity. At my church before Covid, in Toronto, I always every Sunday after church I made a nice snack to go with coffee. However, some people were not nice about it. They made remarks like, you are trying to feed the five thousand, little kinds of remarks. I did not stop though. Our Congregation was a lot if Seniors and I felt like it was good to stay on after and get a chance to fellowship with each other because through that you could learn who needed help or just to talk. My Mom and Dad had a Life if service and it really is a wonderful to do that. To mention Carriages, I see nothing wrong with that either. Carriages have been around from beginning. I have travelled and seen all kinds of transport. Growing up there were Horses and Donkeys and Mules.bi saw people using Carts. As a little girl I loved it when my Mom would take us into town in a Carriage. Mom had a Car but Dad used a lBicycle. At my Grandparents they had a Truck but we were encourages to Walk which was fun for me. Sometimes when you talk I wish I could just have a conversation with you. I come from a Christian family but we were though not to condemn the way other people worship. You had a Christmas Story for your Son and that was priceless. Have a great weekend. Blessings.
I really resonated with the part about living in a modest way. I'm not from a faith that has head coverings or modest clothing BUT I believe in acting and speaking in a modest way. That was really awesome ☺️ You and your family are often in my prayers. Good to see you both looking so happy and healthy. Take care and thank you ❤️
Thank you for this video. I so enjoy your videos. I'm not Mennonite. I am a Christian and am a member of a Reformed Orthodox Presbyterian church in WA state. (Yes there are conservative Christians in WA state ;) But my mom's family tree is Mennonite. During the covid shut down I was able to trace my Grandmother's father's maternal side back to Switzerland ... descendents of Drunkards aka. German Baptist Brethren -Anabaptists. My grandmother's father was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He moved to California. His last name Butterbaugh/Puterbaugh.... farmers... Butterbaugh barn is still standing. They were, I guess, from Rheinland-Pflaz, Germany. I love how you and Nolan shared about your faith. I feel the connection through my family tree. I hope to visit a Conservative Mennonite church someday...God bless.
This was so good! Thank you for taking the time to share an accurate view of our mennonite church. I was richly blessed to hear the pros and the cons that we face. Praying God's rich blessings on you as you continue to follow His leading! ❤️
I wore headcoverings and very long skirt growing up but then went to pants once I got married and quit covering. Lately I've been drawn towards more modesty type clothing and covering again thinking towards the type of wife I want for my sons.... a woman who is modest with a quiet heart..... it's so precious 😭 the covering to me is a sign of submission and safety thing for me. Praise the lord for your family
I love how supportive he is of your channel and how he said, other half I don’t know about better half! Shows his love and respect for you! ❤️ love hearing about your journey and culture! I’m a big proponent of learning about and loving each other, even with all our differences! The more we accept each other, the better the world will be for all of us ❤️
Finally got to watch this. As someone from a different background fellowshipping with Anabaptist churches (14 years now) I can say that you really did a good job of explaining the pros and cons. I could have written that list myself. It is hard to enter the Mennonite culture. The pros have kept us coming back. This is a dreadful saying but at times I have felt it deeply….”if you weren’t born a Mennonite you’ll never be a Mennonite.” Please don’t be offended. It is just hard to be on the outside looking in. The Mennonite church/culture has so much to offer the world. I do enjoy your channel very much, thanks so much!
Yes I totally get you. The same goes for those raised in the culture and leave. They never shake their roots and you often find their circle of friends are those with similar backgrounds. How we are raised is so much who we are. I'm sorry it's difficult... I wish that could change, but it truly is a different culture within a culture 🙂
I Love you both & your fun loving yet informative way of bringing the Mennonite culture to understanding is completely honest & real... I grew up pentecost, & I follow the Bible, I believe in what God's word says & I believe your religion isn't much different from ours, although I believe God is a relationship not so much a religion... I do follow the midnight pastors I found on RUclips.
I agree Nolan ! People have to remember to read the scriptures above and below!!! It is very easy to not know what God is saying in a scripture if you don’t pay attention to the other scriptures above and below!!!!!
I'm here because we are moving to a new community with a very strong Mennonite community. I've never lived anywhere prior around Mennonites. This video was nice to understand the culture and group of people. I feel like instead of just seeing long skirts and head coverings, I now understand we actually have a lot more similarities than differences. I would be lucky to make such a friend. Just wholesome, lovely, hardworking women who care about God, the Bible, their families and community. I do notice some meet at the local bakery for quilting and knitting.....I so want to join in with these ladies sometime. They all seem so nice!
Thank you for making this video it was brilliant , so well thought out and informative. You are both such lovely people , and I agree with you there are many people who are now thinking there must be more to life. Take care little family God Bless you 👵x
Born and raised Catholic. When I became of age, I found my beliefs didn’t always align with the teachings, and so I went searching. I met a wonderful, very godly couple who spoke and lived their truth, and they belonged to the Church of the Brethren. I joined the church, and even was re-baptized, as I had been a baby when my parents had that done. Our beliefs align very closely with the Mennonite church. We are anabaptist and a peace church, emphasize the New Testament, and living a simple life based on service to God and others. One difference is that our beginnings were in Schwarzenau Germany, but the same timeframe and for the same reason of religious persecution, led by Alexander Mack. When they left, it was by way of the Netherlands, where they settled among the Mennonite community there. From there they emigrated to the United States, and settled in Pennsylvania, among the German population there. The first churches met in homes, shared a meal, and studied God’s word. I’ve been so happy for joining this church, and feel like I found my home. Loved your video!
As always I enjoy your videos! . Especially loved the outtakes! For those who may be looking, I find that there are other conservative Protestant groups that are very similar in beliefs and doctrine, if someone is on here and can’t quite find a church in your area that is Mennonite, I have found some German baptist, brethren churches or also Wesleyan Methodist or pilgrim holiness churches who share some of the core beliefs. Not to be confused with the more liberal Wesleyan church, which it separated from about the 1950s. Of course the Wesleyan Methodist etc churches sometimes don’t share the headcovering belief and may have piano music, they do share the same core conservative Bible believing theology otherwise. I have attended both types of churches and define myself as a Wesleyan Methodist who believes in the prayer veil, and not going to war. Sometimes it is very hard to find a good local church; sometimes our humanity gets in the way, as is appropriately described in this video. My advice is just remember we are not following a particular pastor or teacher, we are following the Bible, and with that in mind, I can find myself at home in a number of churches. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
God is so loving and kind. He took care of me when my first and second husband had affairs with other women and we divorced. I am now married to a wonderful man that God gave to me. He's a Christian and loves God. I am not condemned of the Lord. We put God first in our life.
Sorry but you are sadly wrong. Gods Word states clearly if anyone marries a divorced person they are sinning and are adulters. Adulters will not get to heaven. Remarriage is only allowed after death. This video is not made by Conservative Mennonites at all no matter what they claim. We true Conservative Mennonites acknowledge them as Mennonites in name only. The Mennonite name was given by the catholics and lutherans during reformation era ss a derogitory term after the 'founder' MENNO SIMONS. AMISH NAME CAME FROM JACOB AHMAN. Sadly these folks are not sharing the full truth. 😢
I am not nor have I ever been a Mennonite, but I have never been into fads. My clothing has always been things I like that fit me well and that is modest. I have never understood women who like to wear revealing clothing. When I met my husband, I was wearing a nursing school uniform dress that covered me from my neck to mid calf. He said it was very attractive and he loved that no matter what I was wearing, it left my figure to the imagination. He found that appealing. He felt, as I do that sharing one’s body should be a private thing between husband and wife.
Thank you both for this ,its really good to understand mennonite people and the culture especially as I watch you both and some others, I really appreciate this
Good job! As a "conservative" (sorry- I don't like to use labels that then need defined, but...) pastor's wife, I really enjoyed your tackling legalism. I think a "liberal" person can be as legalistic as anyone, if their emphasis is another person or reason for doing anything is out of another motivation vs. a love for King Jesus! (Oh, our son Logan tells me he knows Nolan and family from Idaho). God bless your life and vision!
I love that yall are open and honest. The way you explained everything and how yall live is a great example/witness for God❤ You have a beautiful family!!
I find the Mennonite way of life very appealing. Thank you for the well thought out balanced discussion. I guess as a Christian family as well we hold the same values but try to accomplish them more individually. I can see how having a specific way of holding to those values as a group could help children not feel so left out of the group. I told my kids that since the culture is changing so much we are going to start appearing more & more different as we try to hold on to our Christian values. My questions are * so men do not register for the military at 18, there is a religious exemption? * is divorce allowed if there is physical abuse or adultery? * Do you all live in the same neighborhood, place or are you spread out within a city? * What are the church’s views on phones, social media, & movies or television Thanks again!
Thank you so much for explaining this. I live in Ontario, Canada and we have such a wide variety of groups. Some are horse and buggy and wear black only, for women, men white shirts and black pants. Then others the only way I can identify them as Mennonite’s, is by the dresses and head covers. I always wondered how there could be such a difference. I now have a better understanding. The one thing that seems consistent, among all the groups, is a sense of community.
Beautiful! Those were “hallelujah,“ thoughts💕 Please continue to “pick & choose,“ how much you respond to your subscribers. Your precious children need their questions to be answered by their Daddy & Mommy❣️ Loved this🙂
Thank you so much for the honesty and openness! Question: Do Mennonites have a separate bible or do you rely on a King James or NIV? With Anabaptists… comparing to the Amish do you also have levels of strictness/conservatism? Also is jewelry discouraged? Thinking of wedding ring or simple cross necklace. Also are there things you cannot eat/drink? No dancing? What about medications/prescriptions? Facial hair on men required? I am just comparing to what I know if the Amish. Can women work outside the home? Thanks ❤️
The Russian Orthodox church usually separate men and women, used to have to wear dresses, mostly stand and kneel, even cover heads...they aren't that strict anymore, thank you for all this information on your culture and church, God bless
53:24 what you all mentioned about 50% of marriages ending in divorce is truly heartbreaking! In school I only knew one person whose parents were still together. This is a huge reason why I want to join the Mennonite church. My husband and I are very adamant about nuclear family values and marriage being for life- especially for the sake of children!!
Thank you for sharing. Praying for the right church is key.Churches are not perfect. What matters is that we pray for our church and honor God and put him first. I appreciate your honesty.
I'm 29 and I have grown up with Mennonites and I kinda threw God away for the better part of 10 years but over the last year and a half I've gotten reinvolved and I've recently started attending a church ...it's great because I know everyone and I feel welcomed Also within the last year had my Mennonites are perfect bubble popped
I joined an urban Mennonite church in 1993. I was totally outside of the Mennonite faith and culture, being of English Canadian Anglican upbringing. I am now an elder at a small rural Mennonite church. One thing I wish to make clear, Mennonite conferences, groups and congregations can differ in many ways. And there are a lot of them. Some are surprisingly liberal while others are conservative. They vary from being closed to extremely welcoming when new people attend. Many are family churches, where the majority of attendees are from families linked by marriage. They may welcome you, but you will always feel a bit like an outsider at these churches. There are Swiss Mennonites, Russian Mennonites and Mexican Mennonites (an offshoot of Russian Mennonites) and they often are at odds with each other. Age old differences in beliefs, histories and culture have taken their toll, and these feelings have lasted for many generations. I live in SW Ontario and there are a number of Mennonite churches here with many differences. The Mexican Mennonites from Durango and Chihuahua are intolerant of each other, and many other Mennonites attend Baptist, Alliance and Independent churches to separate themselves from these animosities. I am very happy to be a Mennonite. It is one of the best things that happened to me. But if you seriously wish to attend a Mennonite church, I suggest that you arrange to meet the pastor in advance and discuss your beliefs and get a feel for what the culture, dress code and internal politics are within that church. Also get a copy of the Mennonite Statement of Faith. Be aware that some conferences have made changes to it. Read the copy that your local church has embraced and ensure that it is in line with your beliefs.
The guy that invented the Segway and first cardiac stents only wore brown boots and jeans and blue shirts. Never changed. I admired his talk about using that simplicity to run his life.
Thank you for being open about the cons. I was one of those who came, saw the families in matching dresses and the obedient children with a TV-free life and thought they were perfect. It led to a lot of confusion and heartache.
@@theMennoniteMom Yes, that is what I realized that “I needed to own” that it was MY mistake to think there was perfection anywhere, and quit BLAMING the church people. Now some of the family is plain and some is very modern. I just say that “ I’m 80%” and spend most of my time with the plain ones.
Thank you for sharing this! I appreciate the time and effort you both took to share this with your viewers!I like your culture first introduced to it in Summer of 1983 when I was touring USA with singing group Continental Singers and we shared in some of the churches.
This was so interesting thank you ! There is a channel I watch that when I see the husband he seems cold and dismissive of his wife - it made me feel very happy to see your mutual respect and love - God bless from Tasmania Australia
Yes, he's the reason I like to be able to nab him for these videos. He has a way of covering his bases and explaining things before we jump into topics that I really appreciate
@@theMennoniteMom He sure does! Dont sell yourself short though, youre quite knowledgeable, personable, and your authenticity is covered in grace.....and you only got on a couple bunny trails 😜 Y'all did such a good job on this, and gave us a peek into your own hearts. We will most likely never meet in person on this side of the veil, but Im looking forward to huggin your neck on the other side, your family has been such an encouragement to me!
Thank you so much for taking time to explain all of this! You did an amazing job of explaining and I was completely enthralled in your video! So interesting,so informative, so honest, so well done! Thank you again! I love watching your videos! ❤️
Very much nice that you covered this. Very educational. I never really knew about everything. Are the Amish the same history? I'm learning from your videos. I really appreciate them. What is Anabaptist? I don't understand a lot of religion, but I am a bible believer and love Jesus. I do feel that I am saved by Jesus. I try to live for God. Of course I am only human, God understands everything and everyone. Thanks for sharing. Much love everyone 💕💞💞
Amish have the same roots but became their own group earlier on. There are quite a bit of articles online about Anabaptists. (: God bless as you serve Him
I loved your emphasis on it all being about Christ rather than being a Mennonite. That said, it sounds wonderful to me to be part of a community where kids can safely be part of a school where they will not be taught or influenced to do drugs or sexual perversion, etc. etc. We home school and feel pretty alone sometimes.
My husband and I didn’t come from a faith based family or community but over the last 3 years we’ve had revelation from Jesus Christ, who is now our Lord and Savior. I’m very drawn to the Anabaptist beliefs and lifestyle. Other Christian churches, we’ve looked into are very worldly based on entertaining. They do not separate themselves enough from the world. Coming from the world, we know the importance of keeping it separate because sin and the devil can be so tricky and deceiving. Especially through clothing, music and bending the Bible to fit one’s own desires rather than only following the teachings and word of Jesus Christ. I’m going to look into Mennonite churches in our area. Thank you for all the information!
Very thoughtful talk about your faith. I think the bottom line is following Jesus and kingdom living. I think it would be hard to join any Anabaptist church if you were not raised in the culture. I have Mennonite and German Baptist friends, have attended their church for special occasions, gone to their conferences and yet I always sense that “slight distance” that would not make me totally accepted. As the world has become so chaotic and churches have gotten so far away from the gospel and Holiness of God I believe people are searching for more dogmatic types of churches. As you pointed out, all denominations have problems because we are fallen, sinful humans. To me, the most important thing would be to find a doctrinally sound church - the Bible is always the final authority. Many of the other things follow (i.e. modesty) as your heart becomes more in line with the teachings. Thanks for the great talk - you two are true examples of Christ!
This was an incredibly interesting theological insight into Mennonite culture etc. and some of your points really hit home. I live in a small road with Jehovah’s Witnesses one side and Plymouth Brethren the other (closed I think). My husband is descended from a long line of Methodist Preachers (one a friend of Wesley) and we were both baptised Methodist, so are familiar with bible teachings. But, the difference between our neighbours is amazing. The JW’s are kind, helpful, pleasant and in every way ‘Christian’. Sadly the same cannot be said of the PB. They are the total opposite. This brings home so vividly that it’s the people who make a church, not the ‘label’.
The kindest, most inspiring person I’ve ever had the privilege to know was my Mennonite voice teacher Phyllis Gehman. She never gossiped, never had a bad word to say of anyone and she took me on with encouragement as I was a single mother. The essence of a true Christian in the world. And when she sang, the sun filled the room.
My parents separated when I was about 14 and without Christ I don’t think I would of made it though. Now being married myself that bond is something that is truly a relationship given by God.
Let's make it simple. Any sex outside of marriage is sin. I can't judge anyone 🤚 I'm an old hippie, 'free love dove'. But I can tell you that I wish I had waited. It's meant to be a physical thing that is Holy because it represents a spiritual unity. But the long & short of it is it's between you & God.
I like the way you talk about the difference between culture and theologie and salvation issues. About the way you dress modest is a culture issue. Do you want to comply to our culture in this church or not, if not, you're still our brother or sister, you just might need to find another church with a different culture. I really like that. I really look differently then you Jeanine, but in my own way I feel I am modest. I don't think I would feel at home in your church in the long run, but I do feel really related to you because of your conservative way of thinking and living. I think that is the beauty of the body of Christ. We get to be different but still related. Made one through Jesus....how magnificant if you really think about it!
thank you :-) very much. thank you for taking the time to make this video. eventhough i live on the other side of the planet , i heard the message loud and clear. i am still amazed at the power of the internet , used mostly for so many negative things, yet finding your video shows how it also can play a important role in a positive way too.
Great job explaining your religion! One thing that could surprise people upon joining the church is that a lot of Mennonite groups believe they are the One True Church. Holdeman mennonites for example don’t believe there is a way to be saved outside their church if you leave it. Excommunication and avoidance can also be off putting if you aren’t prepared for it. I don’t speak for all Mennonite groups but this is the case with Holdeman Mennonites
Yes, that church group is known for that. It's one thing that has kind of divided them from other mennonites as in the past they have been known to evangelize other groups. It's rather unique to them, but I do think it's been changing in the last years.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! 😀 yes it can be intimidating... even for us walking into a new church. Good for you!!!
Praise God
@@mamaadventures81 do the amish have any other last name than Yoder ?
@@candacekesting1786 Why yes! There are Weavers,Kanagys,Stolzfoos,Fishers,Bylers, and lots more.:)
Thanks so much! Yes, it took us some time ti her around to it, and we thought a good deal about what to cover. Thanks for the encouragement!
Yes I agree!

I hope you find this beneficial! God bless!
I'm always so thankful when you "kids" talk about your faith and beliefs because you express yourselves so well and I just feel hopeful for the future knowing there really are younger people living out their faith....God Bless You!!
Thank you! God bless!
Well done video. Reminds me of the saying “If there ever was a perfect church, it would be imperfect the moment I walk in.”
So good! I will save that one! Thanks for sharing!
I am
l👀king at your dress and kitchen and Very surprised.

Thank you and Nolan so much for taking the time to put his video together! God Bless you and your family!
I believe this is where I am suppose to be planted..I just don't know where to start. I am just going to keep praying..
I'm a Pentecostal minister and I truly appreciate their walk with God, their love for family, and their modesty.
as a Pentecostal minister what are the differences between the mennonite culture/faith and Pentecostals? Are you AG or Oneness?
Thanks! I was a bit unsure about the length lol. But we wanted to cover what we felt we should
Thank you for doing this video. As an independent baptist, there are, obviously, many similarities between your church and mine. Along with many variations between other independent baptist churches. Of course we all get "lumped" into the same category, especially when something negative happens in another church. Anyway, I enjoyed hearing more about the Mennonite church.
I don't suppose you could explain some of the differences, could you? Outside the pacifism, I'm unsure the differences between the two.
Thank you both for sharing your faith and journey, I miss the sense of community that is lacking in so many churches.God Bless you both 🙏🙏
It is so special the way Nolan loves you!!
I truly am blessed beyond words!
Hi, my name is Karen and I’m from Missouri, and I am Christ Gospel ( Pentecostal) and I really believe that the separation is also on the inside as well as the outward is just as important cause what is on the inside will shine on the outside
I was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost when I was 6 years old and it definitely changed my life forever!
Their is no greater life than living and knowing Jesus Christ and having a personal relationship with him!
It’s not about a religious but a relationship with him
I am Reformed Baptist but enjoyrd and appreciated hearing about your church. Thank yall for sharing!
Thank you so much and yes, my hubby is my rock! He helps keep me grounded with all my impulsive ways. I love him dearly 💛
Thank you, Nolan & Jeanine for taking the time and effort to make this video. You did a good job of explaining things and being honest about the pros and cons. God bless you!
Thank you!
You have used the Word of God as your truth. Thank you for that. There is no other truth than that of Jesus Christ.
You both are on point with your mindset on sexual abuse! Thank you so much for speaking truth on the matter.
I applaud the candor and transparency with which you share your faith and culture. You are building a sound bridge for anyone looking in from the outside.
I was born and raised in the Mennonite church. Thank you for your explanation of this faith that is close to my heart.
I hope I've said this right
In His Love and Grace to you all
I am very interested in the Mennonite culture and have been for a few years.
Blessings.
Nolan, you're a good man. Wish there were more men in the world like you. TYFS.
I really resonated with the part about living in a modest way. I'm not from a faith that has head coverings or modest clothing BUT I believe in acting and speaking in a modest way. That was really awesome ☺️ You and your family are often in my prayers. Good to see you both looking so happy and healthy. Take care and thank you ❤️
And Nolan at the end, so sweet!
For anyone who might wonder about""Drunkards" she meant Dunkards - yes as I suspected it was autocorrect that did that.
This was so good! Thank you for taking the time to share an accurate view of our mennonite church. I was richly blessed to hear the pros and the cons that we face. Praying God's rich blessings on you as you continue to follow His leading! ❤️
All I could say is I love you two together you are fantastic. Thank you so much for all that you both do.
Thank you!
That's very true.
We are moving into an Amish/Mennonite town, and we couldn't be more excited. We definitely love your pies! :P
Good job on tackling this subject! God bless u for it!! You both did very well!!❤️
I love how supportive he is of your channel and how he said, other half I don’t know about better half! Shows his love and respect for you! ❤️ love hearing about your journey and culture! I’m a big proponent of learning about and loving each other, even with all our differences! The more we accept each other, the better the world will be for all of us ❤️
Thank you! Yes he is amazing
So very true!
Thank you and God bless!
We're ex catholic as well and now mennonite.
Beautiful Video. Very informative 👏 👌. Thank you. 😊 I enjoyed the outtakes at the end show us abit, about how, we are all humans.
That is wonderful! I believe dressing modestly attracts the real men. They respect you for who you are. So happy for you!
Thank you and blessings to you!
My questions are
* so men do not register for the military at 18, there is a religious exemption?
* is divorce allowed if there is physical abuse or adultery?
* Do you all live in the same neighborhood, place or are you spread out within a city?
* What are the church’s views on phones, social media, & movies or television
Thanks again!
The answers depend on which particular Mennonite Church. See if there is one near you from the links she has, then ask them.
Your precious children need their questions to be answered by their Daddy & Mommy❣️ Loved this🙂
Thanks so much! Blessings!
Very true!
You guys have such a beautiful loving energy that is truly from God 💜. Having God on your side definitely makes life and marriage much more bearable 💯
I'm 29 and I have grown up with Mennonites and I kinda threw God away for the better part of 10 years but over the last year and a half I've gotten reinvolved and I've recently started attending a church ...it's great because I know everyone and I feel welcomed
Also within the last year had my Mennonites are perfect bubble popped
From one Mennonite to another, you did a good job of explaining Mennonite culture!
Thank you 😀
I joined an urban Mennonite church in 1993.
I'm sorry 😞 yes, it can look idealic but there's always another side. Nothing is perfect in this world
@@theMennoniteMom Yes, that is what I realized that “I needed to own” that it was MY mistake to think there was perfection anywhere, and quit BLAMING the church people.
Had to pause the video to teach my 12yr old further about turning the other cheek, I finally have a good understanding, thank you.
3:25 in and Im already wanting to high-five Nolan 🙌🏻 really appreciate his intro focusing on Jesus❤️
Yes, he's the reason I like to be able to nab him for these videos. He has a way of covering his bases and explaining things before we jump into topics that I really appreciate
@@theMennoniteMom He sure does! Dont sell yourself short though, youre quite knowledgeable, personable, and your authenticity is covered in grace.....and you only got on a couple bunny trails 😜
Y'all did such a good job on this, and gave us a peek into your own hearts.
We will most likely never meet in person on this side of the veil, but Im looking forward to huggin your neck on the other side, your family has been such an encouragement to me!
Amen!
Thank you so much for taking time to explain all of this! You did an amazing job of explaining and I was completely enthralled in your video!
So interesting,so informative, so honest, so well done!
Thank you again! I love watching your videos! ❤️
Thank you kindly!
thanks for doing this. i enjoy watching your show and i appreciate your faith. it was nice to hear about the mennonite faith and culture.
I am not Mennonite however, I am a follower of Christ. I have come to wear Mennonite dresses and love the freedom I have found in doing so.
(: God bless as you serve Him
Great job on a very difficult topic! Thank you for your honest communication!
Thank you!
I was blessed by your highly informative presentation. God bless you both.
Yes, it did have its pros and cons. I can imagine homeschooling can feel alone, but it is a good thing to do for your family. God bless
I love this.... You two are amazing. TY for answering so many questions that most of us had...
You're welcome!
I 100% agree.
Absolutely fascinating and told with such great clarity.
Yes so true! Thanks for sharing!
So surprised to see a Newville, Pa address! I lived in Newville for 22 years. Loved it…Miss it! 💕🤗 Now in Carlisle…..SUBSCRIBED!
That's interesting! Not so far apart then!
I'm so glad she was able to bless you in that way!
This had to be time consuming to put this together, but I think you and Nolan did a great job!
I know it is easy for me to say, but I would love to see more videos. Both of you guys do such a great job and compliment each other.
Amen
Thank you and hello to wherever you hail from!
Thank you both for taking the time to share with me.
