This is why she is one of the most interesting music artist in the world.
The fact that she does not do much blinking of the eyes in this music video, shows that she is in COMPLETE CONTROL of HOW she wants to portray her visual aesthetics for this music video.

Too much talent for one person to have: Sings, writes, looks spectacular, stage presence galore, had lots to say about how her videos would be done. Did I mention I love her attitude? She had something to say.

And what's really important to realise here, is that having the single camera shot in this video...you can actually SEE Grace Jones ACTING here, the visual expression is in her face and how she can change the features of her face for LONG moments of visual facial expressions.
This type of visual work reminds me of the way Andy Wahol would work, when he had long visual expressions in his films, but being a music video here...The visual is not done TOO MUCH to the extreme in the way Andy worked.

Not only is the song great, but the video! It's just a single unbroken shot of Grace and her variety of expressions. Personally, I think it's still pretty interesting to watch, despite how bare-bones the imagery is. Nowadays, it'd be overly complicated with shots of a city or crowds or everything she's describing laid out in full detail or something. The way it is here, it's intimate, like a "this is the last straw, here's the deal, man" type of thing.

You're right but most people in music don't have this kind of electrifying persona that allows one to keep an audience's interest with nothing but one, long close-up. They work with what they've got.

The lights in the background, what she was wearing and grace herself really make it look cool. There's alot of other things going on too like the camera gradually zooming in at times, the way her eyes were looking, the way she was moving her head, the part when she put the mask on, the poses, etc

Ohhhh, Flower_Gemini I soooo agree with you! LOL! I used to be so frightened of this lady when I was young, but at the same time so intrigued by her uncanny presence, behavior, demeanor and attitude. It's just so fascinating how her refusal to conform to the industries standards that so many women (especially Black women) fall victim to actually catapulted her career back in her hay days. 30+ years later as a grown woman seeking to live my life beyond the cookie cutter automatons called human beings, I now have the greatest appreciation for Grace Jones as a woman who decided to personally define and trademark her own unique individuality. To top it off, my adult eyes now see how drop dead gorgeous she was and still is at the age of 60 something... Hail to Queen Grace Jones!

For me...Grace Jones as a Black Women in Popular Music is an integral part of Black-American Civil Rights ( even though she was Jamican and has European Connections); in that here is a Black Female Artist with her own UNIQUE indiviuality, that does NOT CONFIRM to world-wide wide social representations of the Black Female Music Artists.
She paved her own individuality that gives voice to Black Women ALL OVER THE WORLD, in living and creating in your world, BY YOUR OWN MEANS OF EXPRESSION...AND NOT WHAT WORLD- WORLD SOCIETY EXPECTS YOU TO BE.
This represents Black Female Power to the Max.

A very slick version of an already fantastic Pretenders song, with a generous sprinkling of magical Trevor Horn dust. Grace is an incredible artist.

Trevor Horn was great on these productions but for me the real magic here is the Sly & Robbie backing track. Sadly Robbie Shakespeare passed away yesterday - a real pioneering musician who has played and or collaborated with pretty much everyone. RIP

Actually Horn had nothing to do with this one. This album was done by Chris Blackwell and the late Alex "Seven & The Ragged Tiger" Sadkin.

This song is my song because I keep being dragged into others drama and I had enough of it the look on Grace Jones face is the look I want to give to those ppl who kept dragging me to solve their dramas

I agree with you. Many people would put me in their drama too as if I'm suppose to be their mediator. It took a toll on me mentally because I'm an empathetic and sympathetic person. When some of interventions didn't work, I gave up and told my family and friends to save their drama for a therapist.

The mask metaphor is brilliant for this song. She is COOOOOOOOL.
In the early 80s, I seriously and honestly thought she was some kind of alien, back when I watched her as a kid. I thought, "Grace Jones is NOT. OF. THIS. EARTH."

@@albertagibinik3436 ....it's an ongoing theme in her work....she has always rocked masks of her face...her 1st creative director...Richard Bernstein...turned her on to it...then her next creative director...and baby daddy...Jean Paul Goude took the mask theme even further with her...in the video...Demolition Man...all the clones of HER....are actually wearing masks...of HER....
