- Here's a classic live performance of "Walking in the Rain" by this iconic artist, which doesn't seem to have been uploaded yet to RUclips. The song was originally penned by Australia's Harry Vanda and George Young, members of The Easybeats in the 70s, who later recorded together as Flash and the Pan. The duo were also responsible for some of Australia's biggest hit singles in the 70s, including songs performed by Steve Wright and John Paul Young. The official RUclips channel for Miss Grace Jones - a genuine artist in every sense of the word, whose performances transcend the confines of mere pop music - is here: / alawevevo
Genius, I saw this performance live at the Fox in Atlanta Georgia in 1982. It was spellbinding. Grace commanded the stage alone , very simple, chic production, mesmerizing , only a strobe light, the sound of rain and fierce attitude, You couldn't take your eyes off her. This performance was unlike anything else and light years
ahead of it's time. I'm grateful to have witnessed it.
+Stephen Hardy She is evolutionarily ahead of her species. She reminds me of the famous T.S. Eliot Line -
"A condition of complete simplicity (Costing not less than everything)."
Grace embodies this idea of complete simplicity in her work.
+John Doe Well said, You are completely right!!
+Stephen Hardy Man did you say that shyt right....i just reread your quote to a non believer..
well stated, and you are spot on.
"A condition of complete simplicity", as Eliot intended, is death. Never mind. I was at the 1982 performance at the Fox in Atlanta and talked to Grace Jones afterwards. Breathtaking in all respects.
She's a piece of art. Such a surreal entity! her aura is incredible, so sensual and mysterious. Some ones don't believe in Grace because part of her image was directed by Goude, but, others women wouldn't fit in her aesthetic, some singers of today took things from her but they don't get the same result, is her aura, is her. She isn't manipulated by the aesthetic, she brings the aesthetic, the identity. My favourite human in the world.
agreed
She was always totally UNIQUE & had her very own sense of style & self confidence. She didn't need to emulate anybody, yet today, so many young artists try to emulate her, but with little to no positive results. Love you & respect to you Grace Jones.
Amen sister to dat!!!.
Such an incredible description of Grace...... She is timeless
She or he is a maniac, probably on speed. Goodbye.
56yrs old ,here 2024 still loving Grace ❤
62 and still love her as well.
Doesn't get the respect and status she has earned as a living legend. Except from us.
One of the coolest and most intriguing songs of an enigmatic artist. Grace Jones is in a class of her own.
She has a bizarre Public Image
Absolutely!
@@patrickm8638 you love it, dont you.
The original is also good.
Flash and the Pan did this in 1978, Great song by them.
So far ahead of her time.
yes she was!
ahead of all times..
Whoever edited this video was being funny though
The original was done by flash and the pan
This was time specific. The past never underrated her yet the future would to the point of making her a footnote in history.
I saw this at The Cinema in San Francisco in 1982...She kept the audience waiting for over two hours...people were going crazy but she was worth the wait...one of the greatest live shows ever...I remember she was doing Warm Leatherette and knocking over the symbols..her stage hands kept trying to pick them up and she was yelling at them.. "Leave those fuckers on the floor"... Such a legend !!
🤣❤
only 2 hours?
I`m a fan of her, since she was singing La Vie en Rose. That was 1977 and I was 16 Years old. I like most of her songs, but my favorite song of her is and will always be Walking in the rain. Now I`m 60 and this song still put me in trance. Grace, Sly and Robby, that was musical perfection.
Private Life is also a good one 😎
Hi, this is your older brother, I was 18 then, and I felt and feel exactly like you described.
I've heard thousands of albums, and Nightclubbing is my favorite.
@@Captain-Nostromo I've Done It Again is my favorite. Never knew she could handle a ballad.
Have a nice day dear soul!
Doing what I'm doing..
Miss Jones is one of the coolest people who ever lived! I just watched a fabulous doc about her. Bloodlight and Bami. You see the stage persona of alien sleekness or spooky rage but offstage she is funny, friendly, caring, frank. A must see!!
thanks for the recommendation.!!!
Some DO art...some ARE art...
She sang a song about being a piece of furniture lol Art Groupie
So true. Is she still alive? ❤
“Feeling like a Woman.. looking like a Man🎙⛈ Perfection that IS that FACE
30 years later this still holds well.
10 years later😂
Grace Jones was Lady Gaga before there even WAS a Lady Gaga.
And Dale Bozzio....
Grace Jones elevates "phrasing" to a whole another level!!! Brava!
Only Grace Jones can do something like this. Absolutely awesome...
Well, Flash and the Pan can do it, seeing that they did. Having said that, Grace is awesome though.
One of the best combos in musical history was teaming up Grace with Sly and Robbie. Fantastic! atmospheric and (bar perhaps one or 2 synth sounds) Timeless!
The Brilliant Nightclubbing Album.
+psylocke7 One of the best albums of the 80's by far.
Back in the 70,s when I was coming out and hearing her at the major dance clubs, when I discovered there were gay bars. Man this woman was rain supreme. She had a class about her that helped me except myself and a style about her that was just so androgonist, that I could,nt help loving. Aside from the groovy tunes she was singing and a sound that made you want to dance your ass off for. I came out with her, and she was just an easy way to except myself. I love little Ms. Grace, and I know she knows it. She,s a classic and I know she knows it. Thanks for all The Young Hearts Run Free. Cause your in my ball park range baby. Love....Dennis
Grace achieved something that few singers/performers ever have. She has a life long career because she never for a moment forgot all the people and that brought her success. The proof is the tickets still sell out every concert she does the same as they did when she was promoting her second album, "Fame." Her mystious alluring and truly beautiful and unsual voice and her approach to music cannot be reliplicated. These are fact well known to any Grace Jones fan.
She is part of an amazing tribe of people in all walks of life, stretching who we are and what we can be. Overlap with the likes of David Bowie, k.d. lang, Prince, Little Richard. Bend it like Grace, lol!
Grace is living art.
Memories of listening to Grace on my cassette Walkman and hearing her voice get deeper and deeper as the AAs ran out of juice. J'adore Grace.
Grace inspired more children than Sesame Street
Definition of cool
❤️Absolutely !!! 🥂
I'm back. Whose here kicking cans in 2024?
I never understood why her persona wasn't propelled into the Star Trek Genre - She exudes an other worldly being!!!!! Always Unique !!!! Always Magnetic!!!! Always Love that Mystique that she owned and no one could capture like Grace could!!!!!!
I could see Madonna borrow heavily from her...and then Gaga.
Madonna & Grace are totally different.
Nothing reminds about Grace when I think of Madonna?
Yeah shame she only got as far as a James Bond film (still stunning performance though)...
She's a phenom!!!
Grace Jones covering Flash and the Pan. It doesn't get much stranger than that.
Every now and then, I listen to both versions. It's brilliance both ways.
Oh man! This woman was so damn cool!! Love you Grace Jones. You're a work of art.....Genius!! Thank you for the superb musik & for givin us a true taste of the 80's. :-)
i loved Grace at 14......i think she even cooler at 53
I'm still pumping this 2020 major respect from New Zealand 🤙🏽
And 2024 from NZ
Takes time to cross the equator, eh?
Flash and the Pan was an Australian New Wave musical group (essentially an ongoing studio project) initiated during the late 1970s by Harry Vanda and George Young, both former members of The Easybeats. The duo's first success was their debut album with single "Walking in the Rain", which was later covered by Grace Jones.
Yes, the best is absolutely the original by Flash & the Pan whitout a doubt. I also know the Easybeats (Friday on my mind, 1967!) Thank you for your information 👍 Greetings from Italy 👋👋👋
Grace was (then) and remains one of a kind. At her peak in 1981 with this intro song to the amazing Nightclubbing album. Today's female music stars (in the charts) don't have the same presence individuality or originality. Any wonder that after 36 years this still sounds just as good.
Pure artistry and totally mesmerizing.
id like to hear a rage against the machine collaboration w grace, like on corporate cannibal or this song ...
RAM and Grace doing this with RAM really going hard on the instrumental arrangement would be wicked
I have seen her in concert and this is the perfect performance of this song. What a great performer, you have to see her live to appreciate!
I remember being in Paris with my walkman on, Listening to this song, It was raining. Wearing a Charles Jourdan trench coat and CJ shoes too that I had bought that day.
I was on my way to Espace Cabin to meet up for dinner with friends and my new boyfriend.
They were all there and I walked in shaking my coat off and gave my coat to the coat girl.
What a magical evening!
Thank you Grace for a great memeory that your music brings back!
She looks so fuckin cool.
I feel like acts today like lady gaga, and lorde and other strange acting female acts watched this lady a lot, she seems genuine though
Thats how it rolls - Grace was probably also influenced by the likes of Eartha Kitt . . . Art and Creativity ... it all builds on the bones of the past and evolves beyond the mere existence of the current torch bearers - anyway - Grace Jones is surely wonderful :)
Its not talking, it’s not singing, it’s both and yet neither…and it’s pretty damn incredible!
The only thing androgynous about her is her genius which transcends any boundary you'd like to impose. Ultra-cool. :)
Awesome bass and synth
Robbie Shakespere Bass - Sly Dunbar Drums
I remember her from the Conan movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger
Performance art at it's finest...Only can think of one other person, so talented... Maybe more...Laurie Anderson..,..All these new ghouls....Don't hold a candle...they can't even hold, their tails....or gowns..if they wore one....
Grace did it first.
NO, flash and the pan done it first, get facts straight
Auckland New Zealand Art Gallery were playing this with video footage in 2014 when I passed through sensational folks
This is art.
Bravissima Grace Jones, ma il pezzo originale di Flash and the Pan resta inarrivabile...
Still makes my blood run cold after 30 years or so - masterpiece of a song + adamski certainly ripped it off for killer (majority of the bassline + the korg ms10 borp borp borps etc - no too ways!!).
Grace you are bringing me back to life.
Mating when I can.....

Thats such a cool number
This is a very good cover.
Blue Zodiac Flash and the Pan made the original.
Better than the original. However in saying that the real talent lay with Harry Vanda and George Young, it was their song.
Doing what I'm doing
So glad I saw her - twice at different events. Amazing. Timeless. For Damon: RIP - Glad you saw her with me... ;)
amazing presence, she looks unreal, like a beautiful doll with a beautiful voice .
Schon immer war ich ein Grace Jones Fan. Und alle meine Schulkollegen fanden sie blöd. Ich fand die Schulkollegen blöd!
I'm sorry, she's the greatest human being on the entire planet.
in the ever mindless pursuit of money, and mandatory inductions into Liberian doctrine, the music executives have hampered musical progress. artist with vision and unique artistic expressions are drowned out, scared off or out right discouraged.
the 80s has better music and musicians than today. It's sad when u think about it.
I love her. really ahead of her time. Simply the best.
Soooo robotic and hypnotic.
sheer class.
every body from Eurythmics - lady gaga - nicki manaj and so many others stole from Grace - and although Grace is a grammy winning star she never really gained her financial rewards.
Absolutely
Hey does anyone know if this version is available to purchase? Sounds different to the Nightclubbing version. Thanks :)
Diva Grace Jones in action...Light & Love...
...and I saw the show in Stockholm - 1982? - it was great - after a so and so long delay...
FABULOUS. Style and glamour.
Never seen this tape before, however, I have always been fascinated by Grace and since I was walking in the rain yesterday It caught my attention I just luv...the coolness of it. keep on keeping on Grace. Much Luv... SHALOM
Night Clubbing is an outstanding feat of wonderful tunes...x :)
Grace Jones was the epitome of Art Pop along with Roxy Music. Although Walking In The Rain is my favorite song that she has done. She is a fantastic performer. Her albums are awesome.
No artist of today even come close to the coolness of Grace Jones. She is one of a kind!
and Iggy, and Bowie
Damn, someone needs to reissue the whole One Man Show onto DVD. Spectacular performance -- so stark and eerie. The songs sound even better live than they do on record: tougher and more minimal.
blu ray 4k is better
Marvellous to see this rare video. One of my favourite songs by her - together with "La Vie en Rose".
Love the bass in this and she’s just captivating.
Great song and beat
Sly and Robbie, baby
probably the coolist chick on the planet
This entire one woman show cd album was one of the most creative concepts and performances of its time and in my opinion holds up extremely well even now. Talk about T.A.L.E.N.T!
Grace IS art!
Adelaide Festival 2018 Elder Park banks of the River Torrens balmy nite ... crewed for Her Gig
Legend
the rain...
beautiful art
planant et profond! l'élément primordial!!! la pluie! cimer! Grace la déesse!
It should be "walking....walking in the rain....ready to kick your ass!"
she's a goddess. also a very talented singer. bought this album as soon as it came out bk in the day. Love the reggae influences. the musicians on the albums during this period were top notch. timeless, ms. jones!
holy God, this song and video inspires me every time i see it.. even years later
TheNew Tomboy
This is a song by Harry Vanda and George Young. Young had two younger brothers called Malcolm and Angus and also Vanda and Young began writing and producing the new group called... *AC/DC*.
True story.
D800Lover Yep, the flip side of Hey, St Peter. Just saw it mentioned on Blood and Thunder: The Sound of Alberts.
I'm a fairly new Grace fan, and this is just... oh my goodness, wow! it doesen't get any more incredible than this one performance.
Grace Jones really does rule the world. INCROYABLE!
Nothing like this. 👏
i happened to stumble on this video, i orginally wanted the ronettes 'walking in the rain'.........WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why is she trying to steal of the blue colour? Why not red?
yep, this is a r t
She made a great impression on Australia when she came out here. She's a genius.
Just amazing! PURE art! :-3
I thought it would be a cover of the 80's song with the lyrics, "I saw you, and him, and him, walking in the rain. You were holding hands and I'll never be the same." "You're just a squirrel trying to get a nut." She could've done that one well also.
Not sorry I heard this one, though. I saw the "rage" that's in the beginning in the bottom left corner on a Blondie live at the Whisky video of the song Rip Her To Shreds. Are they from the same compilation?
This is a cover of a Flash and the Pan song
I LOVE THIS SONG
so dramatic the way she prances on stage... so slowly, yet so much power.
love it... great performer!
flawless timeless sonic - beyond perfection
Extraordinary Spellbinding Exquisite Fascinating Bizarre Amazing Unique Excellent Beautiful.... MS. GRACE JONES, OUR Majestic LADY....🎙️💋🖤💜❤️👑🎺🎭🎉🎼🎩✨🤔🤩
my favorite of hers, she just completely owns this one
Dear Grace ,Happy birthday and seeing it's nearly xmas ,merry xmas
Hope you are well , you big amazing thing
A stunning performer if there ever was one. Pure art.
Good Music, iconic performer and the Longevity of it all. Absolute brilliance
Think of Marvel superheros. Then think of Grace coming in to the scariest period of the cold war...LOOKING GIANT AND STRONG.
She was a hero there.
What she delivered was groovy, somewhat historical (Edith Piaf) also pointed, telling the powers that be to grow up. To this day I love the magnificent freak and always will. She had a role in saving the world.
