      Borg and McEnroe were actually friends when they were playing ... Mcenroe said he respected and admired Borg greatly and Borg made Mcenroe his best man during his wedding ...
      I heard its not the culture during those days of the 70s-80s to make friends on the tennis tour so its should be no surprise if players are not having much friends during those days, it was the culture then ... they felt the need maintain a distance with their competitors .. BUT nowadays its different, Nadal and Fed have ushered in a new culture of being warm and polite despite being competitive with each other, so people like Soderling being unfriendly sticks out like a sore thumb ...

    They did have respect for each other. It was just an uncomfortable rivalry. Many years later after Soderling retirement, he still kept following Nadal matches and posted many congratulations on Nadal achievements. I think he was so proud as the guy who stopped Nadal run on French open.

    Nadal often uses way more time than he should be allowed to in his preparation. If this started as a reaction to that, I can understand Söderling. The refs are more lenient with the biggest stars too.

    • @ioanniskanello
      @ioanniskanello 6 лет назад +23

      Himanshu Gupta Nadal didnt ban that umpire because he gave him some time violations (in fact many referees have given him time violations) but because there was an incident in Rio i think it was 2016 when Nadal asked the umpire to change his shorts with the use of a towel but he didnt let him which was a bad call. Also he had done some mistakes in previous matches like the one against Berdych in 2010 Atp finals. Nadal never gets angry or has any tantrums on the court and is always respectful towards the crowd and his opponents so calling him a tantrum queen only makes you look ignorant and stupid. Saying that you can see why Soderling reacted this way just shows that you dislike Nadal. I mean what justified Soderling's behaviour; The fact that Nadal showed him the ball which he is obligated to do when they are about to play with new balls;

      @@hippios noe that there is a watch...
      We all can keep the count...
      If someone tells you , you can not exceed the time that means you must be provided with a watch to count that otherwise, to count 1 2 3 in your mind while serving in a match with huge pressure sounds nonsense.....
      At first there was no watch (now they have instlaled it, which is a kore specific way & transparent) NADAL was a victim of this unfair situation as he spends already 8 seconds to perform some steps...becuase he sweats so much & he also has some unique behaviours before serving.........
      It is indivudual's choice & comfort level...a boy who has built up a habit which is more than a habit, it is unfair to judge him with that....
      Now, after 8secs he focuses on the ball, drops it more than 5times it take much time than others & that sucks alllllllllll
      Nadal does not do all these to disturb others..they shoukd have remain respected about others style.....
      KARMA is a thing that no one can exceed even if anyone wants..
      If someone is really fake & bad he would never be continuously fabulous & successful..never..
      & As success is one thing that is well distributed to him it is useless to provoke gossip about that person...
      Which is wrong is wrong..
      If someone is wrong he would get his repayment..

    The thing is that Nadal was not the "good" guy in this rivalry at all, neither of them were. Soderling went back to get a new racket because there were new balls. This annoyed Nadal so he decided to be smart right before serving by interrupting and showing that there were new balls. This annoyed Soderling so he decided to imitate Nadal. Nadal thought that Soderling was rude because he didn't apologize after hitting the net or saying hello sometimes, and Soderling probably though Nadal was unsportsmanlike for taking an ungodly amount of time between points and excessive celebrations. Nadal then intentionally tried to hit Soderling with the ball as seen in this video. I think Soderling was annoyed of Nadal's "nice guy" act or at least he perceived it like that. Nadal was annoyed because he wanted everyone to like him.
