As per Jackson- "The Antix brings play, river running and creeking together into a one-boat-fits-all package. We’ve taken the best selling kayak in its class and added more speed, comfort, ease and play to give you the Antix 2.0." I paddled the Antix 2.0 in a wide variety of whitewater for this review and I have to say it blew me away. Jackson threw away all the things that made the original Antix goofy and slow, and replaced them with a fast, high performace 8.5 foot boat that accidentally picked up where the Dagger Axiom left off.
With a platform more similar to the Jackson Zen 3.0, than the narrower profile I was expecting like the Nirvana, or the Zen 2.0 the Antix 2.0 is stablie, predictable, surfs waves extremely well, and is just an all around fun boat. From steep creeking, to surfing little waves in Class 2 the Antix 2.0 is very good at almost everything.

Just beautiful quote that I think everyone just agrees with 'Dane is just a monster'
Bahaha all bow before the great one
I’ve been paddling well over 30 years and that was one of the best boat reviews ever. Thanks!
Thank you very much!
This review helped me pull the trigger on one instead of a Rewind. Word to the wise, if you value your sanity, do NOT remove the stern foam. I like to pop it out and run a cord so I can attach stern bags around the back instead of clipping them to the seat. Insanely difficult to get out, and 10x harder to get back in.
Thanks for the feedback!
In these cases I usually give the pillar a bit of a stomp to crush it a bit, or put the boat in the sun for a bit to make the plastic more flexible
Great Review 🔥🔥🔥
But i still cant decide between Antix 2.0, Ripper, Goat and Party Rexy...can someone help me ozt please 😅💪
Unfortunately I don't have access to the Goat and rexy. Wish EXO would make them available
Depends what you want from a boat. The Rexy will hold up better when stuff gets spicy. It surfs really well, but it's a very different experience due to its smooth, rounded chines vs the rail on the Antix 2.0 and Ripper. The Ripper is very narrow (I used to own a small and that's narrower than an ICF spec slalom boat!) My feeling on the Ripper after having had it for some time is that it's a boat for experts. Bren can do amazing stuff in it, just like Dane makes the Antix 2.0 look like it can go on anything, but for mortals I think we need a bit more of a considered approach! So if you don't mind the round chines on the Rexy, give it a go (I own a Party and I love it), but if you like a bit more 'bite' deffo look at the Antix 2.0, Ripper, Rewind etc. The Goat is a bit Marmite IMHO. It's not the easiest to get the tail down in.
@@simonwyndham thank you very much for your answer. I tested all the boats since i wrote that comment and decided for the antix 2.0 :)
I'm 192 lbs. in between large and medium. Want to be kinda playful but still be able to run high-water, what's your thought?
I'd put younin a large. At 8.5ft it will still have some play
I don't get to paddle but 10-20 times a year so sadly can't justify a large quiver of boats. Would this work to advance into class 3 and maybe 4 and yet still have a boat to make class 2 more fun?
Yes absolutely! I would say that is a perfect use for one of these
Did you find a big difference between M and L? Which did you prefer?
They paddle very consistently across sizes. The Large I could rip around in in big water, and the medium was super fun in low water. I would probably get a medium for myself because I mainly paddle half slices to play in during low flow summers
How does this boat compare to the pyranha ozone in terms of speed, surfing performance, and squirt-ability? I'm really interested in purchasing one of these two boats for playful class II-IV boating.
A bit of apples and oranges here comparing a full slice and a half slice. I think if you were going to stick to the easy stuff then the Ozone will be more spicy. If you're going to creep up into the 4 you're definitely going to want the Antix 2.0 or to jump up to the Large Ozone.
Nice review! Is this a good boat for a beginner to learn technique?
I have a Zet Toro (love it) and am looking for a downriver playboat to improve my surfing/form. I'm 5'8" with 30" inseam, and couldn't fit in a Medium Pyranha Loki (spent an entire day adjusting the outfitting). After that experience, I'm trying to see what kind of boat I can become a better boater in while feeling comfortable enough to want to be in the boat. So I was considering this Antix, a Pyranha Ozone or a Dagger Super Nova
Absolutely. I would definitely put you in a Antix 2.0
@@AlexBarham Thank you! I snagged a Medium today
Hey bro yah should get hold of a dragrossi drx! Might be hard for you to get hold of European brands
They still make Rossi? Yeah if ones comes this way I will absolutely demo it!
I just got the antix 2.0 but now I’m concerned with how weak you say the hull is when it comes to smacking rocks, doing seal launches, etc. Is there a boat you recommend for creeking that holds up well under those circumstances?
It's not made of glass by any means, but the Rewind for example is a much more robustly built boat.
@@AlexBarham yeah I’ve been eye balling that one, perhaps my next purchase, thanks.
No worries!
Hey man, I think it would be helpful if you included some standard evaluations that are consistent across all your videos that make comparing boats easier. It seems that a lot of the comment section is comprised of questions about how would you compare boat X to boat Y, or Boat X to boat Z etc. If you have a few 'grades' or something to that effect, for a few categories I think it would make apples to apples comparisons easier. Things that would be useful for cross platform comparisons would be displacement/ semi-displacement/ etc., edge 'sharpness', stability (primary and secondary), rocker, and of course speed. I think touching on those, in additional to all your more subjective and qualitative comments would really make these reviews even better!
To illustrate what I mean, we know the 9R2 is slower than the 9R but is is faster than the ripper? The same? 8/10? Faster than the phantom but slower than the nirvana? Is the Phantom more stable than the 9R? If the Machno is an 8 in stability what is the Alpha out of 10?
I think you get the picture, but if you made maybe letter grades or a 1-10 scale for a few characteristics for every boat it would be super helpful (for me) to compare and likely save you the hassle of responding to really specific questions.
Keep up the good work and see you when the borders open,
Ian
Hey Ian!
So this has been asked before, and people have sent me links to websites doing this sort of ranking. I have a number of thoughts as to why this is just not something I am interested in doing:
- I do not want to claim to be the end-all authority, or have to devise scientific ways to quantify boats
- I believe in demoing. It is the only way to know if a boat is going to gel with your body and style.
- I don't think hard data helps make better choices. Measuring boat widths and lengths for example doesn't tell you anything about turning radius.
- 10 years ago there would have been boats ranging the spectrum from 1-2s to 8-9s. Today most of these boats would be pegged on the very high end of the spectrum. The performance is VERY high, the feeling and personal preferences are really where the differences are.
- These ratings DO NOT age well. The original Nomad 2005(?) should not have a rating of 9 stars for boofing when compared to another 9 stars for the 2015 Newmad. Worse I am not able to go back and slide old boats down as technology improves.
Mostly, I just really really really do not want to waste my time defending an 8 vs 9 star rating with someone across the country who probably only cares because they bought one boat and not the other.
@@AlexBarham makes sense!
Thank you for another excellent review. I so appreciate that you take your time and really get a feel for a boat rather than just throwing content up ASAP. Your analysis of everything from weight range, to performance, to wear and longevity is invaluable to someone like me. When I do finally pick a new halfslice, your insights will play a huge role. Also, leaning towards Large 2.0 to replace my Medium 1.0, just waiting for a good chance to demo. Keep up the great work!
The 2.0 will paddle a little bigger than the 1 because of the added length. Definitely demo the M and then make a choice
@@AlexBarham thanks I’ll be sure to try the medium as well
I am 5'8 and 140 and barely was able to fit in the small, but trimmed the bulk head a bit and very happy. You are right this thing is an amazing green water surf machine. Never been so easy. The only negative I have found is that sometimes it decelerates quickly in the boogey/ weird water and it takes some effort to get it back to speed. Not sure if that is user error??
Strange. Hannah is an inch taller than you and had no issues. You might be paddling a bit straight-legged, which BTW could have some adverse affects in transitions like jumping into slack water.
There is some technique to overcoming that. Mostly just do anything to keep your bow up from boofing into the slack, or paddling hard, combined with tensing your core to try and suck your knees up
do you ever paddle in the south east? In your opinion how does this boat do on creeks?
I liked paddling this boat in rocky creeks. It was tested in the southeast and certainly performs in that environment really well
I would to love to see some on the Fluid Kayaks reviews, but contacting them is like pulling teeth. I weight 200lbs and the Bang and Big Bang seem interesting.
Yeah man same here. No idea where to even get them, but if they were to help me get hands on boats I would certainly do it
@@AlexBarham Well I contacted them, I have several of their kayaks, I dropped your name to them, I help it turns out for you.
@@FeWolf me too! Much appriciated
Awesome, thanks for the review!
You got it Jordan!
Yo Alex can you give the waka goat a review
When/if I get access to one.....
Just picked up the Antix 2.0 here in Wisconsin, only had it on the water twice but loving it so far a major improvement from the 1st Antix. Side note question any tips on adding a little grip to the seat to keep from slipping a bit especially when wearing a dry suit? I feel pretty snug with hip pads and all. I really dig your honest reviews!
I think the slickness from sitting in a drysuit is caused in part by the waterproofing so I would not want to damage it. Check that your foot block is back far enough.
@@AlexBarham thanks for your input. I think my wording was off on “added grip” I get the dry suit materials and not wanting to interfere with that. Maybe I need to get more pushback from bulkhead and let it compress a bit , ie... tight/snug and break in? If that makes more sense on my question. Or maybe just play around some more with outfitting. Thanks again 🤙
There is certainly a little less "grip" with some materials, but your outfitting should be tight enough that you can't actually slide around
Hi, Alex. Just bought one. It’s my first half slice and I got it in a large. I’m about 5’7”, 180 lbs. Should I consider getting a medium instead? I should say, I do lean on the side of more stability because I’m a beginner.
Tough one. I tend to put people onto boats they will grow into not out of so I would be super tempted to get you into a medium
@@AlexBarham Thanks! Switched my order to a medium.
Just promise you won't shoot me if I am wrong lol. Please follow up!!
@@AlexBarham Absolutely love it. Easy to paddle. Not too difficult to roll. The medium was the perfect size. At 5’7” I didn’t have to trim any of the foam for the bulk head.
great review! Looks like a winner. I am waiting on my delayed Soul Waterman Glide and am hoping I feel as good about that boat as you do about this one. Cheers!
Thanks Peter! Yeah Corran will always be whatever he wants to be, luckily for him right now the market is also interested in the same thing. It was getting a little weird for a minute there.
@@AlexBarham I'm not so sure that the weird went away but I do like the specs of the Glide. I will find out in June.
@@pbuehner The rough specs and shape are appealing. The lack of testing is concerning
Super review, thanks a lot
Thanks!!
Nice hat!
Lol Zet marketing gets a tip of the hat for sure
Hi, thanks for the review of the antix 2... How does it compare to the axiom for creeking and river running? ( I know you love the axiom!)
The Antix can do pretty much anything the Axiom could. The added width under the paddler really makes things easy
Alex, thanks for the review. I’m 195lbs 6ft tall and had a hard time getting comfortable in the first Antix Medium, I ended up selling it for only that reason. However I do well in my Medium Axiom. Your review on the Antix 2.0 has me excited about trying it. My question is Medium or Large?
Medium for it's intended purposes. Don't creek it or push the big water limits in it. That's what your creeker is for. If you go large you'll be able to creek it, but then what's really the point?
I have an Antix 1 and I have loved it, I have gotten to where I feel it is a little slow. I paddled an axiom for a week and found it was much faster, which I liked, but the stern catches in all the wrong places. Like you said it likes to be driven hard. Son now I need to buy a new boat, (Antix is nearing the end of it's life) the problem is I live in Utah and we don't have a place that demos these boats so I rely on good reviews like this. I can order a rewind or a Antix 2.0, Is there anything about the Rewind that you would say outperforms the Antix 2.0, that I would be missing? Where does the 2.0 outperform the Rewind? Granted both boats are really good, but each might have a sweet spot.
I would say that if you are relying on the forgiveness of your antix 1, or primarily focused on finding play waves then you'll want to go straight to a 2. The Rewind is going to be looking for a more aggressive paddler, but will dole out rewards for the extra effort
Fyi you can demo boats in Jackson. Rendezvous sports has jackson and pyrana for like $35 a day. Not the closest thing ever but also living in utah that's what I've had to do.
Bought a medium in February brand new. The outfitting and top deck of the boat are still in pristine condition and most of the hull is too. However while paddling two days ago an 8 inch split appeared right under the seat. For such an incredible boat the plastic quality really isnt there. Probably wont be buying another one
That should be an easy warranty to get processed. Talk to your retailer
@@AlexBarham yeah thats what I thought but apparently not without shipping it across the country which seems a bit excessive to me. Thankfully have insurance to cover it. Will be going back to a Rewind
Absolutely nailed it. And your comments about longevity are spot on, the 2.0 is awesome but as an owner, as someone who has put the their hard earned money into this boat I'd be very surprised if it lasted three months. The damage to mine is extensive after only two very light runs. This boat dissolves in water. I've had probably 10 or more jacksons. This is their weakest by a standing mile. Even a smooth rock tears this boat apart like a potatoe pealer.
Personally as an absolute Jackson fan.no matter how good this boat is. Avoid it!!!
Yikes! You should be looking towards a warranty then.
@@AlexBarham i have, they aren't interested. Bought a rewind instead🤘 brand loyalty doesnt pay! Sure you mentioned that in one of your earlier videos... happy paddling!!!
Thank you so much for the excellent review as always Alex! I am looking to get my first half slice later this year and am torn between the Party Braaap and the Antix 2.0. I am 6 ft 1 200 lbs. I live in Charlotte, NC, and would run mostly SW runs. I like the fact that the Antix 2.0 would be a great entry half slice, but how does it compare to the Party Braaap. My current is a Zen 2.0 large if that helps.
If you're already paddling the zen 2 and liking it I would say just go right into the antix 2.
@@AlexBarham Right on thank you for the advice!
@@eddieolmedo454 Sure thing Eddie!
So it’s the same question everyone seems to ask, but how do you think the antix 2.0 stacks up to the rewind?
I assume the rewind is a little faster, maybe not as stable?
I was looking for a boat that I could run easy class 5 but still play a lot. I have been running the antix 1.0 for a few years but put a deposit on a rewind a few months ago. (I had the chance to demo the rewind last year, now I’m having a little fomo for not tying out the antix 2.0)
I own/ed both, I run 4/5- in both. Waterfalls and all. I personally prefer the antix 2.0 overall because it's more of what makes a half-slice a half-slice.
Though, the rewind is more comfortable, and is going to be better for use on rivers requiring faster and more precise boofing.
The antix 2.0 will do better in the hole, and on the foam, but the rewind will be easier boofing over it.
You buy a half-slice for play, so the antix would be more appropriate for those uses.
If you require less play, and more down-stream aggression, then go with a Rewind. If you're at that point though.... you might as well just invest in a creeker. Not everyone's a Dane.
@@pharma37 might have to get in the new antix then and see how it feels!
At least with how backup up dagger is delivering boats, if I decide to switch things up the rewind will be easy to sell.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks for the reply Brett! Glad to hear I am not the only one, and get another perspective
Justin- I would say one is meant to be looking downstream more than the other. The Antix is going to fit better with someone that is looking for all-river engagement and play, and is always ready to be eddied out or stood up mid-rapid. The Rewind, while SUPER playful when you want it to be, wants to be driven hard in rapids, smash through lines a high speed, and fly over boofs.
@@justinbell937 yeah, for sure try it out!
Can't go wrong with either.
