    I started my Russian journey with that course. It was a good starting resource. I followed up with plenty of listenining and tons of conversations with natives. Having gone through the process, I am able to communicate with Russian speakers without any issues.

      It's the best starting resource in my opinion. Seems like you followed a similar process as I did! Glad to hear you can speak without issues.

      For what it's worth I'm using Pimsleur Russian and I like it alot. I used Pimsleur French as well as MT French and I highly recommend both.

      I actually started with Pimsleur but quickly moved on to MT.
      To be frank, Pimsleur is prohibitively sluggish and you just find yourself repeating the exact phrases for the whole week instead of learning grammar and unique constructions
      I also tried Pimsleur with Arabic and faced the same issues

    I am taking the 8 part foundation course right now, and i have ADHD so i really struggle to focus my attention on something if it is boring or not very interesting.
    I must say this course is very handy and so far it keeps me hooked and focused.
    when i read 2-3 pages of a book i feel like falling asleep, so this listening course is so helpful for me.

      Great to hear! I've got the same thing with reading Russian grammar books. Hearing it is so much more engaging.

      My story exactly. I was able to handle basic conversations within 2-3 days of passive learning on the bed/during exercise. This speed is unheard of tbh

    Подскажи, пожалуйста, где можно найти курс Мишеля Томаса для изучающих русский язык. Французский я нашел на ютубе. Русский что-то не могу найти в открытом доступе.

    I've used the russian courses to refresh my spoken russian. I've learn russian 30 years ago at school, and wanted to give it a second try
    I'm french, and I must first of all state that the course don't exist with french as explanation language. It is englisch or nothing.
    And as you can see, my englisch level is " french speaker" so very very poor... and not expectedly, I had no problem with the englisch audio. So 1 good point. Other good point: the examples are linked with everyday and professional life ( so no useless vocabulary linked with school life, it is reallty a method for adult beginners)
    The way we learn languages at french school is very disastreous: sit, hear, write, learn endless lists of words, and say nothing when your not asked to do it by teacher. So I could read russian quite ok, but couldn't speak. And this method was so effective for me, that 8 monts later I actually tried to speak russian with several people and they undestood me.
    So it was effective to give me the confidence to actually speak.
    But I wasn't complete beginner. Maybe A1 or A2 at this time, but it gave me the necessary help and confidence to beginn again studies from 0, and enroll in a russian/ german bachelor. I'll aim for the B2 certificate of russian this spring, and C1 later.
    Also I experimented other languages.
    - german, with explanation language french. I had already B1/B2 level german, and no problems with confidence, so the results are less spectacular, and the method was heer to easy for me. Plus, I couldn't stand the voice of the lady giving the course, it does not help. FAIL.
    - Nederlands, with englisch for explanation: I had a A0 level, and this time, it didn't work for me because englisch and nederlands are so close, that I couldn't remind anything and answered in englisch. So this one is a halb FAIL
    - Spanisch, with french explanation ( my level is A2 in spanisch): very effective to refresh the knowledge.
    - Italian with french explanation ( A0), Not that effective, mainly beacause of the proximity between spanisch and italienisch. The first learned langage always pop in mind. FAIL
    - Englisch , explanations in french ( i'm A1, or A2 maybe? not sure, I can poorly write and even poorlier speak) : not very efficient, but I'm faulty, because I did listen to audios while doing sports and were not very focused. But here another problem is same with italienisch. Learn german first, and I think first in german. FAIL
    2 Wins and 3 fails and 1/2 fail.
    I must now try it learning a language that I don't know at all, with french explanation, to have a complete idea. But very little other possiblities exist. Maybe I'll try with chinese some day.
    But as far as I've seen, I would say: it is very effective to refresh knowledge if you already have a A1/A2/ B1 level, but not that great to learn from 0.
    I'll add that every time I did not only use the Michel thomas method, but also a lot of other ressource in the same time.

      I also found Michel Thomas very refreshing for Russian. It explains difficult grammar in an easy way. Interesting to hear your observations with the different languages. My girlfriend listened to the Dutch version, and I also listened to the beginner Michel Thomas courses for Spanish, French, Polish, and a bit of Arabic. But for the last 3 I didn't spent enough time to practice.

    The Michel Thomas female student was good, but the male student drove me crazy throughout the course!

    • @LearntheRussianLanguage
      @LearntheRussianLanguage  2 года назад +2

      Haha, that's true. At least the teacher was a native Russian speaker. Michel Thomas has other courses where he (a native Polish speaker) teaches French or Spanish. So you have a non-native speaker teaching other non-native speakers. The Russian course is much better in that aspect!

    • @RexGalilae
      @RexGalilae 2 года назад +1

      Wow I'm glad I finally saw someone comment on the students and I agree!
      The male student gave me strong smartass vibes at first, trying to prove himself but his performance fell flat midway through the beginner's course
      The female student started off poorly and slow but kept her head down and managed to retain a lot more information than him and often made far fewer mistakes later on
      Any idea who the students were?

What would you advice?)) Ну и по-русски напишу тоже! Поскольку мой английский не идеален! Закончил слушать первую часть курса - для начинающих, и теперь начинаю вторую часть - для продвинутых! У Мишель Томас только эти 2 курса голландского, а больше нету... И теперь я думаю что еще послушать для дальнейшего изучения голландского языка) Хотел спросить, что посоветуешь, мой друг?))

    To be honest im finding it difficult ! Iv been learning it for a few weeks now & im still on disc 1 , which im going over again for the third time . Most of the time im tired & i find it difficult to bring up the required words . . I studied German for many years & i love the language but i put in a lot of time studying grammer & lots of relentless repetition . I am going to visit Russia in couple of years & i want to be able to better understand what i see & hear . So i Persevere ! Anyone got some good advice for me please .

    • @LearntheRussianLanguage
      @LearntheRussianLanguage  Год назад +2

      Repetition is key. I also went over most of the CDs several times. So there's absolutely no shame in repeating lessons.

    Do you sit there and take written notes or is this course good enough to merely listen during my gym workout?

    • @LearntheRussianLanguage
      @LearntheRussianLanguage  2 года назад +1

      I never took any notes. You can listen to it while going to the gym, but in that case I recommend you listen to the entire course two or three times. It's difficult to concentrate fully on the language course while working out, so it's good to repeat it.

      @@LearntheRussianLanguage agreed. I usually find YT videos with vocabulary and set a goal to listen to it for a month and hopefully I retain at least 50% of the words

    • @LearntheRussianLanguage

      @@mistereearly1141 That's great to hear. Repetition is key, and too many people want to move onto new words instead of drilling down the basics.
