Those apps are really hit and miss. Sometimes you really need to exaggerate in order to get them to correctly find the word. It must be difficult learning Russian and Romanian at the same time!
Hey i love your videos. I've been studying Russian for like a year and a half and lately it has been hard to motivate myself, knowing how much further i have to study. Your videos always get me feeling more motivated.
If you feel like you're stuck, scale down your practice to about 20 minutes per day. Watch a lot of series in Russian that you enjoy to get your enjoyment back. But the most important part is to not quit.
These recommendations are really good and thought through. I like how you structured it! :) I just had a minor surgery and I have to lie in bed, so I thought I'd finally start learning Russian 🥰 I always wanted to learn it and go to Russia one day 🙏
I find that Busuu is an excellent app to get you to an advanced B2 level. The lessons are enjoyably gameified, the material is useful and varied. And every other lesson it asked you to give a fuller response - written or oral. These answers will be instantly corrected by native Russian speakers. And how much you interact with these Russian speakers, and how far you push yourself with your answers, is up to you. The app also has amazing customer service if you have any questions. I think Busuu is the best general app out there for Russian (I’ve used half a dozen or more of them), but with one big caveat: it doesn’t go past B2. No C1 here, which is really frustrating. But you can continue to submit responses that will be corrected by native speakers.
The problem for me with RussianPod101 is that it’s overwhelming-too many choices for me as a complete beginner. I prefer that Pimsleur and Speakly have a set program to follow that will teach me the most common words and phrases. I don’t know if Pimsleur has done the same (but maybe they have because it overlaps a lot with Speakly), but I know that Speakly has analyzed all the most common words and phrases and focuses on teaching those whereas RussianPod101 is organized more by themes. I feel that RussianPod101 will be more useful to me once I have a strong foundation in the basics.
Russianpod101 has added a lot of extra lessons and content over the years. The upside is more content. But the downside is indeed that it is more cluttered. What I recommend you do is follow the 'level' lesson pathways from 1 to 5 (absolute beginner - beginner - lower intermediate - upper intermediate - advanced). That way things are organized well. If you have any questions, let me know :)

In the end the thing that matters most is consistency. If you enjoyed Pimsleur and Assimil, then they work for you. And it's a good idea to follow them. Though it won't hurt to try some newer apps so you have a frame of reference.
If I recall correctly, this is a good deck: ankiweb.net/shared/info/2037470492 The beginning is a bit slow with all the small common words, so you can skip the first 300 words quickly. So it's not for complete beginners. They should first follow Duolingo/Memrise/Michel Thomas.

Could you please give a recommendation for a self-study book for a complete beginner? I had a look at the "teach yourself complete Russian" but there were some negative comments about the book having lots of mistakes....I would greatly appreciate if you could give a recommendation that is reliable. I need something with a cd or a link to downloadable audio. Thank you very much!
@arabicmajd Thank you! I am currently following "Russian with Nasty" here on YT and at first I though not much of it but after 11 lessons I see some progress and there is definitely a red line in the lessons.
Russian in Exercises. It does not have audio, and not the prime example of fun, but it has short explanations and tons grammar drills. I loved using it.
I haven't tried that one. But from looking at the screenshots it looks like a general app that just shows you words + audio. If that's the case, it should be fine for the beginning stages (first 2-4 weeks).
