I certainly hope they're at least paying attention. Not just to Vaati, but to the community in general. I don't imagine too many IPs of any kind have the sort of devoted fanbase FromSoft can boast with their games.
What's amazing is that, in the beginning the game seems to be about killing beasts only. But after playing for a while and having put some of the pieces together, you realize that the beast-thing is only minor part of the whole story, even though it's a major theme. The way it's all built up, how the story just expands, is amazing. That's one of the main reasons I like this game more than Dark Souls. In Dark Souls, the plot is clear even before you start playing. A chosen undead shall relight the first flame, and prolong the age of fire. I know that the lore is just as deep, but it doesn't really change the plot. In Bloodborne on the other hand, you are getting a blood transfusion, and reading a letter stating that you should seek paleblood. Then you just get instructed to kill a few beast and to not think so hard about it all. But as you progress the plot changes. It goes from "just kill a few beasts" to "uncover the secret of Mensis" to "kill other gods in the name of another god". I feel like Dark Souls is fleshing out the story as you progress, but Bloodborne is evolving its plot. You don't really know the purpose og anything before killing Mergo's wet nurse.
I totally agree. I just can't get into Dark Souls because it was a very simple cycle of light and dark so all the drama the game talks about during the ages honestly means nothing in the big picture, so it really just doesn't interest me. That and it's the ten thousandth rehash of the Knights and Undead theme we've heard for hundreds of years now, but it is pretty intricately designed there. Bloodborne on the other hand was completely original aside from the obvious inspiration (H.P. Lovecraft) so it immediately drew my attention and I loved it to death because it was something completely new I haven't really seen before. Unlike DS, Bloodborne actually seemed to have real mystery behind your actual goal and get you to actually question the true nature of what you're doing. Am I being a hero and freeing reality from a nightmare? Or am I just being completely manipulated? Whearas in Dark Souls it's obvious: Relight the fire, save the world from darkness; nothing really to question about it. Bloodborne, to me, really felt like a story designed to give that scared and adventurous sense of awe and mystery for what really is out there hiding between the cracks of reality and dreams. Phenomenal story.
You should watch Vaati's videos on Dark Souls. Dark souls was never obvious, in fact it's much more ambiguous. Is continuing the age of fire good? Is darkness bad? Nobody knows, not even Vaati. But I would agree that in Bloodborne it seems things are much clearer and less ambiguous. You can make a movie out from Bloodborne but never from Dark Souls.
Ricky Christie There isn't any active story in Dark Souls to explain. The whole game is just a walk through history and stepping over the corpses of those long passed. All Dark Souls is is a large compilation of side stories that you don't hardly have any part in. It wouldn't make for a good movie because it's about as entertaining as watching paint dry. As for the whole fire and dark part it sounds interesting at first, but it's so straightforward that it sucks all of the fun and mystery out of it. It's a never ending cycle of fire and darkness so it doesn't matter who wins, eventually they'll lose and so on for all eternity. Boring and easy to figure out
Joshua W ummm no. Did you even play the games? There are a lot of side things, but that CONTRIBUTES to the main story of the cycle. Your right about an endless cycle, but the PROBLEM that started Dark Souls was that one person wanted to have one part of the cycle last FOREVER. The last dlc of Dark Souls beautifully portrayed the cycle ending, by creating a whole new world of darkness because the “main” one was so fucked up. Just because BloodBorne interests you more doesn’t mean Dark Souls is bland, you just didn’t like it/understand it.
I actually find this condensed version to be better explained and written than the 30 minute version. Simply because it focuses more on the main plot as opposed to any specific characters. Great video.
I borrowed this game from a friend. I fucking HATED this game when i first got it. About halfway through i started liking the gameplay, and felt strong after beating a handful of bosses. After beating this game I started reading the lore and story behind the it. Now i'm in LOVE with this game, and it's one of the best games i've ever played. I'm so glad I didn't give up on this gaming experience.
I didn't hated it I really liked it, but had no patience at first and quit playing it for months. Then I played DS3 and got far in it. Depressed that I'm almost done with it i saw my friend play Bloodborne again. Now that I know and understand the lore way better I want back and fell in love with Bloodborne! O even got way better at it! I beat the cleric beast and Father Gascoigne on my first tries! I love From Software!
Commander Sheppard same thing happened with me after all the deaths and constantly learning the controls and getting more powerful it slowly became my most favorite game of all time!
Virgin great ones - can't even have sex, are hideous, no women will ever touch them, no one knows wtf they're even doing, act like spergs Stacy Vileblood Queen - is royal, gets laid every day with the blood of her enemies, every hunter has to bow before her, has a literal cult build for her, lives in epic expensive castle with her own personal bodyguard.
VaatiVidya I love your videos, so I would like to ask you, if you know anything about the "Pale blood" we were supposed to look for from the beginning of the game? Until now, I have no clue to what it actually is! Altough, the Doll has white (pale?) blood. What are your thoughts about that?
Personally, I think the ending where you awake from the hunter's dream as a human is better than becoming a Great One. Because you accomplish both your original goal of curing your illness, and maintain your humanity and identity.
Except we will all cease to be human at some point when we die, so its inevitable. I think this is a topic we should explore more often. Not saying I want to murder a bunch of sick people and become a tentacle monster baby but, ya know its not unimportant.
I guess it’s all about how you played the game. Did you gain a lot of insight? Power up your character beyond belief? Enjoy your journey? Well then you become the tentacle baby. If you dreaded the nightmare, you awake anew as a human.
Well. waking from the hunter's dream is a selfish ending in my opinion. I mean you are well and good but the ascension of humanity will never take place. on the other hand in the secret ending you helped the whole humanity to ascend to a higher being.
What are the other implications of the “Awake” ending? I assume the Moon Presence and Ghermain are still around, so will they lure other hunters to the dream to slay other Great Ones? If the Moon Presence goal is to reproduce, why does it give you the choice (through Ghermain) to leave the dream and live your life as a human?
I know it's been 7 years but that ending is actually the worst. In the second ending you wake Gehrman from his terrible nightmare, and in the third ending not only do you free him, you also kill moon presence and on top of that become a great one lifting humanity into its next childhood. This implies that you ascend not only yourself, you take everyone with you. In the awake ending you fulfill your purpose, but you neither breake the endless cycle of the nightmare nor free Gehrman.
You know what the craziest thing about From Software is? Miyazaki is so smart that he designed games like Bloodborne, knowing most people wouldn't take the time to understand the carefully crafted universe he had given them, but they would love the gameplay and that was enough to sell millions of copies...yet at the same time, he also predicted that players like VaatiVidya would piece together the story and end up doing lore videos for him. Genius.
There is a lot of evidence that suggests that Gehrman and the hunter´s workshop acted as a stealthy approach to deal with the scourge of the beasts, this can be noticed due to their black garbs and easily concealed weapons. Tough, once Gehrman´s hunters failed to contain the beasts in Old Yharnam, the church established Ludwig as the new "head hunter", so he would take a more direct approach to the beast hunt, wielding huge hammers and swords to deal with bigger and bigger beasts, because oddly enough, clerics became the most hideous of beasts.
Is it me, or does Bloodborne have a "happier" ending than Dark Souls? Gehrman frees you: You have ended the scourge of beasts and now are free to live your life. You take Gerhman's place: Ok, this is darker, but at least the world is safe. You become in infant Great One: Personally, I wouldn't want this regardless of the power it offers, but you have ascended and you are set to elevate humanity, should you be benevolent. In Dark Souls, there was no right ending. Just sort of finding your way through the morality of a seemingly hopeless situation. Kindling the fire seems like a good ending at first, but it's questionable just how good that is. In Bloodborne, it seems like you do actually "fix" the world, in a way. Which, I mean, I understand. They are different games, after all.
SelfAwarePedant you dont fix the world at all in bloodborne? the hunt bloodborne takes place in is one of many. no matter which ending you pick some fool in the near future will beckon the great ones again and start the hunt anew.
SelfAwarePedant ah okay. bloodborne is like dark souls in a loop. when a hunt ends it doesnt end for good. when the old blood is used again or the old gods get awakened the hunt starts again
Macder10 Not necessarily. It's not Dark Souls. There is no Great Never Ending Cycle that we can't break, it's literally just "Some people fucked up hard once, then other people found their fuckup and fucked up harder." Then you go and kill 3+ literal Gods. One can assume that the other Great Ones, be they new tentacle monsters or just more Amygdala's, would want to steer clear now that they know someone can kill them and pretty much transform into them There is no cycle, there is no Flame, their is nothing but a series of events in an isolated location. For all we know the rest of the world is perfectly fine, after all in the opening cutscene everything goes well until you take the blood, then you see the wolves and messengers. The Hunters Dream could quite literally be a dream inside of a dream, brought on by the players possible skepticism of the effectiveness of blood but requirement to seek it out. You literally could have just been tripping major balls the whole time
MetalDrummer141 it IS an cycle since the great ones will have to reproduce every once and then. this will start the hunt. unless every great one is slain (which is nearly impossible) this cycle will continue forever. and about the lands around yharnam thing. how is this relevant? it is highly implied there are cities with people iving around lordran/drangleic as well. the darksign isnt a 100%. the darksign isnt even that common. around the time of dark souls 1 there are several cities which just ban undead to the asylum and keep on living.
VaatiVidya Vaati, what do you think about the Doll being a Great One? Let me explain better: the Doll gives you strenght during the game, she's obviously a very powerful figure. Consuming three Thirds of Umbilical Cord means you've consumed a whole umbilical cord of a Great One, and you're ready to become one of them. You just need a greater challenge than the usual. The Moon Presence may be a Great One, yes, but there is another one we never see during the game: Oedon, the formless Great One. Its consciousness may reside within the Doll, and that's why she allows you to level up. "Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate." When you defeat the Moon Presence, you become an infant Great One; the Doll takes you with her arms, caressing you, cuddling you as a mother would do.
VaatiVidya There are a couple more points to prove that: Oedon is said to be formless and almost omnipresent. It is also said to be only heard, and never seen. This one might be a little stretched, but if it's omnipresent, it can easily enter a dream, even one created by another Great One, such as the Hunter's Dream. Maybe, it can even infiltrate, chosing as a host a soul-less body, an artificial being, and it may give this being a voice... It could help this inanimate object to git gud... Another hint comes with the Tear Blood Gem. "A doll sheds neither blood nor tears and thus its nature remains unknown". This, we can read in the description of the Tear Stone. However, the item you obtain from it is the "Tear BLOOD Gem". Also, we've seen through item descriptions and boss battles that the blood of a Great One is silver-like, more similar to the one of the Doll than to that of humans, or Pthumerians. How can a formless being bleed? What would its blood be like? Surely, something stranger than anything else you've seen before.
Aaron Henry Yeah. Essentially, you can see how the "Coldblood" items become whiter and whiter as the descriptions start to say "Great One", "Old Great One", and so on. The message in the Unseen Village saying "Behold! A paleblood sky!" might refer to the moon (meaning="to the Great Ones"), and the Doll has the most pale, the purest blood. The Tear Blood Gem is the perfect healing item: it slowly restores your HPs. The Healing Church uses the Old Blood to cure the ill, and what's purer than the blood of a Great One, able to restore life itself? About the relationship between the Doll and Gherman, I have my theory, but it's a bit late for me (00.08), so I'll write it down later. I think I'll make a couple of videos explaining my theories, then.
Bloodborne, farming shards in Hypogean Gaol. I find that learning/discovering the lore puts so much of the game into context and makes eerything you see and encounter that much more interesting, if that makes sense.
robTCGZ Yeah it was easier to speak logically and line out the narrative without delving into item descriptions and "explaining why" all the time. That's why I decided to do this - and i'm really glad it helped!
This was a great video Vaati! I've watched the 30 minute version before as well, and despite it being very-detailed, very well edited and referenced with sources, it was really hard to get the whole picture after watching it still! Bloodborne has just such a complicated realm! But this video is really concise, thank you for doing such a rewrite ;] At least I understand the story better now
The ones besides the boss are referred to as "lesser" Amydgalas, implying that they are an inferior version to the main one, or original. There are multiple possibilities of where they could have come from: lesser beings the Amygdala transformed into it's image, bud-like clones of the original, who knows?
Creedance Bloodwater: "I see a red moon rising. I see trouble on the way. I see great once descendin'. I see amigdalas today. Don't go around tonight, Well it's bound to take your life, There's a red moon on the rise."
I think the exchange between Willam and Laurence is the most interesting dialogue - it can be taken multiple ways given the definition of the word "fear" in "fear the old blood." In Victorian times, the word fear was also used to mean to have reverence or awe for something Godly; it also means to have respect for something in addition to being afraid or cautious of it. We don't really know what Willam's definition of "fear the old blood," maybe it just depends on what ending to the game you prefer.
I like Bloodborne's story more than any souls game. It feels fresh, with the right combination of complexity & simplicity. Even if you don't get the whole story, its easy to understand the core theme of the dangers of ambition. I find this much better than Dark Soul's story which is essentially repackaged greek god lore in a medieval setting.
The God Emperor Agreed, just looking at how things are in our universe, real great things all look beautful and majestic, here the supposted great beins are disgusting and are doing worse things than humans. It may be, that they are humans trapped in a new state of being.
The God Emperor From what I gather you can tell by the blood. If when you hit them it's red blood, they used to be human before changing (Rom, Vicar Amelia etc). If when you hit them it's paleblood, then they are a Great One, so different species entirely (Ebrietas, Amygdala and so on)
This was helpful. I never got to play bloodborne, but have watched streams on occasion. Being able to ease into the lore before watching the thirty minute video greatly helped my comprehension and retention of information.
Just got my platinum trophy for beating this a third time: absolutely an incredible game. So beautiful and well done. You really have to pay attention and think to get anything figured out. Thanks for your videos:
I was so excited to 100% this game that I let the controller down in excitement and accidentally attacked German triggering an ending I had already went through and couldn’t go back and undue it. So I have to beat the game a forth time to get the platinum trophy, I’m good at 99% lol
I love that there is someone like you to fill in the gaps for the lore of Bloodborne (and other souls games). Plus, your voice is dope, so calming to listen to haha. I can't wait to listen to your videos on Dark Souls 3. Thanks for putting in the effort to makes these videos. I hope you continue.
I love how the director: Hidetaka Miyazaki created a story where the ending has no end, meaning that another hunter can eventually defeat you. Best story ever.
Love bloodborne. I platinumed Dark Souls 3 a few days ago, can't wait to return to Yharnam to play the DLC. The story for Bloodborne is so crazy I love it.
Bloodborne's "good" ending where the hunter achieved what they set out to do and got to live their old life afterwards is actually the closest thing to a happy ending that FromSoft has made. Surprisingly, it was one of their darkest games that had one of the happiest endings.
For me, Bloodborne and Vaati vids on RUclips made this my absolute favourite PS4 game. So addictive, played this game for months and your lore videos made it even better. I plat'd the game long ago but want to play through it again one day. We need a sequel to this for ps5...
It is almost a half year me trying to figure out the story of Bloodborne even tho i watched a lot videos. But by listening to this video very slowly and carefully, I finally came to some point where I get it (kinda). Thank you! You're doing great work. The way you introduce and talk in these videos is magnificent. Keep it up!
Great video. I would like to say though, I feel Gehrman burned down the lodge after Minsis because he was inspired to break the cycle. I don't think there was a supernatural reason for the lodge burning. Just Gehrman finally had enough after seeing what you had accomplished. Idk.
those hunters went mad with blood lust and turned into beasts like Father Gasciogne, Laurence, Henryke ect. they kill anything really not just you. Also look at all the hunters who are sane and dont try to kill you like Alfred, Eileen, and Durja (well he tries at first, but not because he's a beast.)
Oh...this makes so much more sense now after watching it...I love your videos man. You have a knack for piecing these stories together in an interesting way.
4:32 I think Gehrman and the Hunter’s Workshop began as a band-aid solution to the beast outbreaks caused by the blood rituals of the Healing Church. A dirty little secret tucked away to protect the holy image of the church. However, the beast threat eventually grew to the point that the church itself was forced to train and equip its own hunters. Perhaps they were arrogant and believed they would succeed where Gehrman had failed and purge the beasts forever. Or that they could keep the threat at bay for long enough to find a solution in the ancient labyrinths. Maybe they knew there was no solution, but seeing how hopelessly dependant on blood healing their civilization had become, they were prepared to fight an endless war against the beasts that they themselves were creating. Or knowing that the only true solution would be to disband the church and outlaw blood healing, they chose to persist and cling to their power.
Hmm so basically Both lawrence and micolash created chaos in yharnam Lawrence uses old blood which is corrupted, administered it to the public to gain power, found the healing church then causes a scourge of beast due to that corrupted old blood. Hunters were form to fight of the beast meanwhile micolash, having an umbilical cord uses it to create a ritual to gain audience with a great one sacrificing the school in the process causing even more chaos. Willem wants more eyes since he wants to have more knowledge and to elevates his thoughts like a great one(if I'm correct, don't know if I missed something). Doesn't that mean he knew what's happening in yharnam? since he gains knowledge through the use of an umbilical cord. Then created rom to suppress micolash's ritual(maybe willem uses his umbilical cord for that purpose while also gaining insight, kinda explains why rom has a lot of eyes as well). Then there's gernam(can't spell his name)alone and lacking purpose, uses his umbilical cord to not be lonely anymore hence why he's the host of the hunters dream. If you think about it the great one's just answered some of the 3 characters wishes. Can't remember what micolash's whish is. Willem wants more insight and gernam wants his hunter's workshop to have a purpose again. Then our mc is just on gernam's dream this whole time. If our mc's really want that blood healing from yharnam then could it be that he too will be corrupted as well? (Sorry for the long comment and english isn't my first language)
Watched your 30 min video on the story and i still had no idea what the hell i was listening to. THIS on the other hand was straight to the point and made sooooo much more sense! Thank you, Vaati!
Hey, VaatiVidya, regarding all the shit you're getting on Reddit and stuff, I just wanted to speak up and say that I think you're an amazing part of this community and I hope you continue to produce content of this quality and calibre through the entirety of the Souls series and beyond. I've been watching your stuff since Demon Souls and I'd hate to see you brought down by assholes spitting hate. Don't let the idiots keep you down, man. You keep on keeping on.
RedRage2697 There's proof that he plagiarized some of his "Bloodborne Story explained" video from a 90-page lore analysis written by a guy named dmcRedgrave. The transcript was fed through plagiarism software which detected not low, not medium but high plagiarism throughout the video - some sentences were directly lifted (item descriptions and quotes from the game were ignored by the software). The evidence is damning and Vaati's response was not to address it in a video, but write a note defending himself. His response completely skirts around the plagiarism software, claiming it was just flagging item descriptions (which it had already been explained, were ignored by the software). It's pretty clear he wants us all to forget about this. This is coming from somebody who very much wishes none of this were true. When you look at the facts though, any rational person will come to the conclusion that Vaati blatantly copied some of his Bloodborne story video - which he could've easily avoided by simply quoting his sources (it would not have been hard)
Yeah but there being two, or arguably even three dreams within, it makes one ask where does the truth of the dream begin or end. Many NPCs acknowledge that you are in the dream, but that they are not in a dream anymore. That leads me to believe that the only dream is the hunters dream with the workshop and gherman. The rest of the city of yharnam is in reality, but due to your contract with the hunters dream you are tethered to it, and you won't die in the waking world, just be sent back to the dream until your contract is fulfilled
Such a sad ending, no matter your choice you lose. Give in to Gerhnam, you fail to end the nightmare. Refuse, and you become either a comatose puppet, or a being who must move humanity forward, and possibly not for the best. Lose-lose-lose, and maybe, sometimes, we need games with these kinds of endings, as sour as they may be
I'm on NG+3 myself (haven't played in a few months) but I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of The Old Hunters. VaatiVidya, I've watched several of your videos before, but this one right here earned a subscription. Thank you for this synopsis of Bloodborne, and I plan to watch the longer version when I get home this evening.
James Incap Lawrence is long dead by the time we reach Byrgenwerth. I'd imagine Willem has been sitting in that chair for quite a long time; he's gotten more than moldy over the years.
Finally like 7-8 years later I played this game after beating Elden Ring. I really enjoyed this. I tried Demon Souls and couldn't get into it but played this through and beat it. The story is very jump around but your video really helped me fill in the gaps.
Did you try it 7-8 years ago? I bought Dark Souls out of nowhere shortly after its U.S. release. Gave up at The Depths. Picked it back up in 2013 and it clicked! Idk how. It just did. And when I discovered the lore and how it entered my thoughts when not playing I knew I had a new favorite. Favorite series. One of the few developers I still trust 100% as well. BTW - Elden Ring is amazing isn't it? It's my opinion that PvP needs to be worked on. And even with a few other flaws...it's simply amazing. Anyway, if you're new to "Soulsborne" Definitely check out Dark Souls 1 next. And you will hear some people say skip Dark Souls 2. Do not skip Dark Souls 2.
So Lawrence screwed up and through "blood healing" slowly turned humanity into beasts and tried covering it? Or Mergo allowed humanity to turn into beasts because of Micolash? This is deeeep
I loved the story, I understood everything you said (I saw both versions, I enjoyed the longer better, I'm found of details). Congratulations, I await your videos!
Bloodborne is the most confusing game I have ever played. I can tolerate darksouls story a little bit but bloodborne doesn't tell me anything. I'm hunting beasts, then aliens, then great one, then idk if I am in someone's dream, or I'm in my own dream...
That's the point. It's supposed to make you think "where am I?" and question where reality ends and the dreams began, or if there was a reality in the first place? Just like the hunters and scholars seek answers to their own realities, you the player are pushed to try and figure out your own. If you'd like I can give you the overall gist of the story and keep it short and sweet, or you can try to piece it together yourself.
Wait, so in the beginning, you said the main character comes from a place to get cured. But how do they get into the dream in the first place? I know that hunters are in the dream and if they give into their lust they are trapped forever, and I know that if you do the will of the moon presence you can be set free, but when tf does your character even enter the dream? Were they in it their entire lives? is it even an actual dream as in their real body is slumbering somewhere? or is it a metaphor or something. I'm honestly so confused.
Views the opening cutseen: Werewolf burned( scourge of beast) Tiny messengers( power of the blood) Get you into the dream. The game dont really lets you know how you know about the paleblood and where it come from. It want to create mystery. My theory is that you know about the paleblood because of Oden since all the dream hunters forgot every thing( Hunter of hunters, durja). Oden accents are blood and mercury. His runes gives more quick silver bullets and his description also say about the precious blood. Wonder why he impregnated ariana, lady of the night instead of the virgin nun? Her blood contains high level of mercury. That why i think Oden talked to you about the old blood since you can have a high level of mercury. "Oh, Paleblood? Well you have come to the right place" clearly state that the old man on the wheel chair knows about the paleblood. This blood cant not from the healing church because themselve need one but couldnt create or find it. This blood can be created by a greatone or it own blood. The way i see is paleblood is special mercury blood. And about the old due, he could be working for the MP. Some even say the due is oden himself because he dont need a physical form so that he maybe can use other bodies as puppet? It up to you to create your own that what so create and also annoying about souls games
I've often wondered if Miyazaki took inspiration from Lord of the Rings when he came up with the idea of the chalice dungeons. In The Fellowship of the Ring you hear Saruman say "Moria... You fear to go into those mines. The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame". The Pthumerians or the Byrgenwerth scholars may have dug too deep?
so I know the spot with Gerhman and the Doll is a dream, but when you go to Yharnam through the headstones are you still in a dream or are you actually traveling back to the waking world? Would Micolash's nightmare be a nightmare in a dream, or just a nightmare?
Mates you're really helping put things together for me. First time playing and thoroughly confused. I don't even consider these spoilers as I miss or forget so much dialogue, and regrettably killed some NPCs before they could tell me stuff.
How the hell was I suppose to figure out all of this by playing!?
The only thing I made out was that I was a hunter, hunting beasts.
Beasts then hunting aliens. So confusing like pubic hair.
Observe speculate and read dont bomb rush it like russians rushing b is csgo
Paying attention to literally everything, even minor dialogue, is a must in Miyazaki games.
Dante R. King same.
Lol. Item descriptions also hold a lot of information.
A hoonter must hoont.
Enough quaking in your Boonts!
Leave the hoonting of hoonters to me :)....yup 201&
'nother hoonter are ye?
A fookin legend
😂😂😂👌
For those who don't want to watch the video. Basically some monsters wanted to have sex but couldn't and went mad.
+Eric Cartman Thanks Eric.
Ransomed Sin No problem my mate. :)
+Eric Cartman Fuck you Cartman.
+Eric Cartman Lmao. Nice
+Ransomed Sin Resepct his authority, son.
“Every great one is bizarre and unique. Pthumerians, on the other hand, are all identical and only knew how to build 3 rooms...”
HAHAHAHAHAHA accurate
Except third chalice. We dont know what happened at there
good one!! lol
from software get's their info from these videos
Everett hahahha
lol
I certainly hope they're at least paying attention. Not just to Vaati, but to the community in general. I don't imagine too many IPs of any kind have the sort of devoted fanbase FromSoft can boast with their games.
LOLOLOLOL
hahahahah nice!
I hate it when people ask me what this game is about. Like you can play the game and still have no idea what's going on. Don't ask me to explain it.
+Siren Network What's this game about?
Dr.7roll3R_ In the most simple term I could think off. It's about killing gods in order to transcend humanity.
Didn't think you would actually answer, but...
k... xD
Miyazaki put this element in every souls games. It reflect the feel that he got, when he started to learn english on his own
+Destroyer2150 I think it's more of a tribute to H.P. Lovecraft, tbh
What's amazing is that, in the beginning the game seems to be about killing beasts only. Atmosphere and lore makes game great for me I agree

Great video.
same
i actually now understand the point
Commander Sheppard word for word my thoughts of DarkSouls lol
Commander Sheppard same thing happened with me after all the deaths and constantly learning the controls and getting more powerful it slowly became my most favorite game of all time!
Commander Sheppard 'Im commander shepard, and this is my favourite game on the citadel'
I gave up on this game.
"They want to reproduce, but for them, it's difficult..."
Don't I know it. Been there before.
Virgin great ones - can't even have sex, are hideous, no women will ever touch them, no one knows wtf they're even doing, act like spergs
Stacy Vileblood Queen - is royal, gets laid every day with the blood of her enemies, every hunter has to bow before her, has a literal cult build for her, lives in epic expensive castle with her own personal bodyguard.
Tfw you relate to an elder god because you're both ugly virgins.
Lol😅
I've already successfully reprocuced. Just like bloodborne, there WAS lots of blood, and screaming in pain.
(oh not during the sex part lol)

YOU'RE A SQUID NOW
BATASHALACKA My ending explained video is just going to be this
VaatiVidya I love your videos, so I would like to ask you, if you know anything about the "Pale blood" we were supposed to look for from the beginning of the game? Until now, I have no clue to what it actually is! Altough, the Doll has white (pale?) blood. What are your thoughts about that?
Cthulhu no???
LeUserNameIsTaken Probably the Moon Presence's other name, think about it. Makes sense no?
Lucifer Blossom You mean like pale as a moon? May be. But who left the message there, then?
The sequel of Bloodborne is.... Splatoon?
Lol cx
***** We are born of the ink, made inkling by the ink, undone by the ink.
lol It would be hilarious to hear vaati do lore vids on splatoon, I still haven't been able to buy that game...
Arhum McShaheen Vaati pls
Yes
You know what the craziest thing about From Software is? Miyazaki is so smart that he designed games like Bloodborne, knowing most people wouldn't take the time to understand the carefully crafted universe he had given them, but they would love the gameplay and that was enough to sell millions of copies...yet at the same time, he also predicted that players like VaatiVidya would piece together the story and end up doing lore videos for him. Genius.
Wait so you fight and presumably die all this time to become a baby Squid!? :-D
A baby GOD squid :D
A baby squid god
that's how the Inkling race begun
and then you shall ascend tentacle hentai to the next level
a Kawaii baby squid, well worth it in my opinion
There is a lot of evidence that suggests that Gehrman and the hunter´s workshop acted as a stealthy approach to deal with the scourge of the beasts, this can be noticed due to their black garbs and easily concealed weapons.
Tough, once Gehrman´s hunters failed to contain the beasts in Old Yharnam, the church established Ludwig as the new "head hunter", so he would take a more direct approach to the beast hunt, wielding huge hammers and swords to deal with bigger and bigger beasts, because oddly enough, clerics became the most hideous of beasts.
before Ludwig and after Gehrman's time there was the powder kegs and the choir serving as the military arm of the healing church though
Macder10 I want to note that I don't have a PS4 and thus haven't played Bloodborne. Just a fan of Dark Souls trying to become accustomed to the lore.
One can assume that the other Great Ones, be they new tentacle monsters or just more Amygdala's, would want to steer clear now that they know someone can kill them and pretty much transform into them
There is no cycle, there is no Flame, their is nothing but a series of events in an isolated location.
"Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate."
When you defeat the Moon Presence, you become an infant Great One; the Doll takes you with her arms, caressing you, cuddling you as a mother would do.
VaatiVidya There are a couple more points to prove that:
Oedon is said to be formless and almost omnipresent.
@@DrMoose-nd6qm i cum blooooooood
Very late I know, but is paleblood = old blood? I think not or am I mistaken?
@@nothingEvil101 I think they're different, but it's been a while and I'm not sure
Bloodborne is my favorite game ever! Dark Souls is awesome, but Bloodborne is just different! Anybody here likes Bloodborne more than DS?
yep
No. I love my DS. I have one that does the 3D now.
Randy Marsh I did then DS3 came out and after I beat the abyss watchers I fell in love with the game😂
Randy Marsh I'd probably love Bloodborne, but it is Playstation exclusive
Randy Marsh I have yet to play bloodborne but the bar has been set. I don't think darksouls 3 can be outdone.
I love listening to VaatiVidya playlists to keep me nicely entertained while farming =]
+Vyral714 which game are ya farming on?
Bloodborne, farming shards in Hypogean Gaol. I find that learning/discovering the lore puts so much of the game into context and makes eerything you see and encounter that much more interesting, if that makes sense.
+VaatiVidya I love listening to you speak. Your English is so exquisite.
agreed even though I've listened to it 5 times already
such a calming voice
The longer story video may be more detailed, but this one make things clearer for me.
Good work as always, waiting for more videos!!
robTCGZ Yeah it was easier to speak logically and line out the narrative without delving into item descriptions and "explaining why" all the time.
But this video is really concise, thank you for doing such a rewrite ;] At least I understand the story better now
Get excited by a new VaatiVidya video.
Realize it's a condensed version of one I already saw.
Be sad.
GPIA7R It's written quite differently, if that helps ;_;
VaatiVidya As I notice this during viewing, sadness wanes. Replaced with satisfaction.
Good. Good. :)
GPIA7R Vaati is taking cues from FROM/Namco by re-releasing his old content (sotfs edition)

I'll free him but I have second thoughts.
You say all the Great Ones appear to be utterly unique, but... what the heck are the Amygdala's then? There's like twenty of those guys.
+theproofreader Oh Amygdala Amygdala....have merci on the poor bastard
There is one amydgala
He just had many children
+Rickey Ripp or its one amygdala and it can exist in multiple places at one time. Seems like a god like ability the great ones would have
The ones besides the boss are referred to as "lesser" Amydgalas, implying that they are an inferior version to the main one, or original. There are multiple possibilities of where they could have come from: lesser beings the Amygdala transformed into it's image, bud-like clones of the original, who knows?
I guess you can think of it as Shoggoth, a creature created by the old ones with great power but low intelligence in formless manner
Creedance Bloodwater:
"I see a red moon rising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see great once descendin'.
I see amigdalas today.
Don't go around tonight,
Well it's bound to take your life,
There's a red moon on the rise."
I know I’m late but this is one of the best comments I have ever read on RUclips.
Holy moly, you're right!
I couldn't belive it until I looked at a dictionary. "Reverence" and "fear" have a this link!
Let us hope Vaati makes a Cainhurst lore video. It's pretty simple of a story but a cool one none the less.

It's incredible how you can love a game without even knowing the story behind his world. Miyazaki and From Software magic. Wow, thank you Vaati
The only thing more amazing than the incredible story, is how well your style of telling the story compliments it. 11/10
"Man kills God, ascends into hentai"
Lol
Who's to say no one else ascended? It would seem to me that all great ones were perhaps once humans who ascended :O
The God Emperor Agreed, just looking at how things are in our universe, real great things all look beautful and majestic, here the supposted great beins are disgusting and are doing worse things than humans.
It may be, that they are humans trapped in a new state of being.
The God Emperor It's said that Humans and Great Ones were different races.
Schleicherfreund it is said, doesn't mean it is true :P that's often the case with Souls games.
The God Emperor It's the closest to the truth of an explanation you will get.
Mohogany Guy 1869 That's great, definitely what I was aiming for here
This video made more sense than the longer one ... Thank you so much. I finally understand the plot.

Third ending: YOU´RE A SQUID NOW!
YOU'RE A KID NOW!
Bloodborne's "good" ending where the hunter achieved what they set out to do and got to live their old life afterwards is actually the closest thing to a happy ending that FromSoft has made. Surprisingly, it was one of their darkest games that had one of the happiest endings.
Your mysterious, calm voice make these vids absolutely amazing. You are a great person Vaati.

Idk.
After dlc, everything changed.
Wait, then why are there hunters trying to kill YOU.
Right, i don't get that. Aren't you all fighting for the same cause?
Ritvik Y. Because the flow of time is distorted in Lordran... oh wait.
those hunters went mad with blood lust and turned into beasts like Father Gasciogne, Laurence, Henryke ect. they kill anything really not just you.
Also look at all the hunters who are sane and dont try to kill you like Alfred, Eileen, and Durja (well he tries at first, but not because he's a beast.)

Oh...this makes so much more sense now after watching it...I love your videos man. You have a knack for piecing these stories together in an interesting way.
the name "bloodborne" makes so much sense now lol
10:49 It would be cool if you get to fight the infant great one in bloodborne 2.
I played through this and didn't figure how intense the story was, great video! Puts it all together in a way I couldn't grasp during gameplay.
Hmm so basically
Both lawrence and micolash created chaos in yharnam
Lawrence uses old blood which is corrupted, administered it to the public to gain power, found the healing church then causes a scourge of beast due to that corrupted old blood.
(Sorry for the long comment and english isn't my first language)
so in the true ending of bloodborne you pretty much turn into Cthulhu.
I love your videos Vaati.
Love ya, VV. Don't let a lot of this stuff lately bring you down. Your fans appreciate your hard work!

What are they saying on reddit?
This game's story and lore always fascinates me
And touches the deepest bits of my heart
You're never going to explain the slug ending?
Bloodborne is literally a dream brought on by the blood infusion. How tf does nobody ever get this right?
Lose-lose-lose, and maybe, sometimes, we need games with these kinds of endings, as sour as they may be
is any of this gonna be on the exam?
RUclips has recommended this video over 10 times to me and I think I have always clicked to watch it...
My favorite ending is the one where you end the nightmare and wake up to the sun rising over Yharnam
Far as I'm concerned the disease you came to get cured was 'dying', and ascending is basically becoming immortal.
Has anyone noticed the strange fungi-like growths growing out off Willem's back?

Moldy balls and taint? Perhaps Gehrman should lend him his doll?
Freud would have a field day with the Great Ones.
But they might not fit in the psychoanalysis chair.
*insert inception sound*
tell me about it, is hard to perplexing this game.
dexter tolentino It's a shared dream between all hunters chosen by Gehrman.
dexter tolentino play metal gear if u love to be confused
So are these umbilical cords kind of like the Behelits from Berserk?
Behelits choose their owners. Like Griffith was the chosen one and shit. These umbilical cords however don't do so (i think)
hmm I forgot about that detail lol
Man I love berserk. Good thing the anime is returning this year.
+Mohammad Sadiq you think it'll be good? I'd probably have to get used to the new voice actor
Sebastian Reyes huehuehue.. the 2016/2017 berserk anime sucked *laughs/cries*
Views the opening cutseen:
Werewolf burned( scourge of beast)
Tiny messengers( power of the blood) Get you into the dream.
From software: So Vaati we're glad to have hired you! So, how do you wanna tell the story in the next game?
Vaati: well the item descriptions say...
so the entire game is just a set up for u becoming a tentacle monster? FOR A HENTAI WITH THE DOLL?!? *MIND BLOWN*
i dont understand dark souls and bloodborne story very well through the game, because im too concentrated to survive
Tmb estou preocupado com sobreviver alan
14 seconds in I'm already confused, why can't this be simple! like Dark Sou- *head explodes*
0:59 ''Each Great one is bizarre, Unique''
*Sees dozens of Amygdalas throughout the game*
NumbZkull all except one are lesser amygdala’s. I’m pretty sure the only actual amygdala is in the nightmare frontier.
so I know the spot with Gerhman and the Doll is a dream, but when you go to Yharnam through the headstones are you still in a dream or are you actually traveling back to the waking world? Would Micolash's nightmare be a nightmare in a dream, or just a nightmare?
Pick your ending!
Your are free and live your life as a normal person
Become enslaved by a weird tentacle monster
Become an all powerful squid
Best voice ever.
such a creepy crazy story.. geez
Mates you're really helping put things together for me. First time playing and thoroughly confused. I don't even consider these spoilers as I miss or forget so much dialogue, and regrettably killed some NPCs before they could tell me stuff.
This made the story SO MUCH EASIER to understand than the longer video
