If you have an untrained dog, you have no business letting it out from the car unleashed when you're visiting a neighbor's farm with free ranging chickens. How she could have committed that mistake, what with knowing how the dog responded to birds in the wild, and with her supposed experience from growing up on a farm, is beyond my comprehension.
I grew up on a ranch. We never shot an animal for misbehaving or smelling bad. We trained them, sold them, or cleaned them. Dear God what a narcissistic maniac.

Kristi Noem could have easily called dog whisperer, Cesar Milan. He would have jumped at the chance to film an episode or two of training her on how to correctly behave with her dog.
Yep, we got our rescue doggie, Roxanne when she was around 2, and she was not house trained. It literally took 2 weeks with lots of positive affirmation when she would do her business outside, and put outside the minute she messed in the house with the bag or rags used to clean up her mess. Never mean, never scolding. She got it. I adopted another rescue, Junebug who was 8 and never house trained. Oh, man, it took a year. That old adage about not being able to teach an old dog a new trick...it's was rough, but we did it. My point is at 14 months, I could teach that dog to do anything. Noem is stupid and lazy and cruel. She should be banned from ever having a dog again.

The dog was an untrained puppy. Her kids came home that day asking ‘where is cricket’ as he was their family pet. Noem made a kneejerk psycho decision because she according to her own words ‘hated’ the puppy.
Just the fact that she hates puppies and goats means she is a psychopath. The might not behave as you want, but you have to think like them to understand them, and that is a deference she is in capable of affording animals. Her laziness in understanding them fundamentally, is very telling.

Back in the early 1960’s my dad got a couple tree harvesting machines (skidders) so did not need horses to pull logs out of the bush for his sawmill. Still he kept his horses for a long time. They were fed and kept in stables with a small yard in the winter and were in a large grass field for about 8 months of the year. The last 3 horses had to be put down in the mid 1970’s due to their old age and near end of life. My dads eyes were red with emotion when their health no longer made it possible to keep them. I recall my dad saying how the horses like to work when treated well and appreciated. It touches me to think that he would not as significant cost and time abandon his horses when no longer needed. It was a true friendship.

That's the most important point to make - that she and her book writing staff used SUCH POOR judgement as to publish that story about the dog and the goat.
