The only thing I want to know is why so many people don't have comlinks in Star Wars. So many times characters find themselves in situations where they end up walking to someone's place and finding the person isn't there, when they could call ahead of time
Its because when the series was made it wasn't common occurrence and instead of the universe adapting with modern sensibilities/technology it gets stuck with technological limitations of the period the work was written in, or rather the technological limitations the writer did not consider to solve. I think a good example is how in Star Trek Starfleet seems to not use drones or basic robots at all for dangerous tasks, despite being set 300 years in future. On one hand these sorts of quirks add a level of charm to a work, or it can be used to make the setting feel special, on the other you have nerds that stick to the "original vision" so hard that they come up with absurd reasons why, for example, Starfleet is simply too advanced that they have no need to use drones while in the TV show we see characters get injured and die from situations that could have been avoided if they wore a hardhat or High visibility jacket, apparently technology too primitive for Starfleet to issue.
Well to be fair if I was going to deliver the tactical plans of the biggest super weapon ever existed I probably wouldn't do it through a form of communication that people can hack, I would give it to somebody on a hard disk, or even written down on paper, to ensure that it can't be copied or traced
Your videos are by far the best ones when it comes to legends lore, and not only that but Star Wars in general, your casual way of explaining things and humor are more easy to get into that most sw youtubers
Oh man Saintmillion, I remember a few years ago, my Star Wars tabletop group screwed up on their hyperspace jump, ended up flung into otherspace... THAT WAS A GREAT SESSION.
I think ILM just overlaid a print of footage from a black and white CRT that was on the fuzz. Look up some documentaries on the making of the films. There's a few on RUclips. :)
Some people go to extreme lengths just to find excuses to rewatch the entire series again, lol. Like making a new video! And smuggling on the side. Thanks for that, by the way! Hey, you even included the version with Sebastian Shaw instead of Hayden Christensen, that's more respectful than Hollywood was, nice one!
Thanks for your extensive examinations of Legends Lore… this and a handful of your other videos have been absolutely instrumental in fleshing out the logistics and infrastructure of a homebrew tabletop RPG I’m working on.
You should make a video about Star Wars Legends *before* the prequels came out. Its pretty interesting how stuff evolved overtime as the various movies came out
11:03 During the war specialized hyperwave repeaters were probably set up. The CIS Munificents for example doubled as Hyperwave repeaters. The Republic likely did similar. Also Utapau isn't that far from the Sluis Sector Though it's farther from Eraidu than I thought Sluis sector itself is fairly important and likely ended up on the Holonet. He was also on Greivous's ship and possibly using the very CIS network I was thinking about.
Welcome back Saint Milly! Personally I just assume that the relay inconsistencies can be explained away by jedi giving their signals a lil' bit of that ol' "The Force™" boost. Upgrades the signal to like 10G or something, that shit will go anywhere.
It would have been hilarious if Darth Vader was like. "Umm, My Lord Sidious, my Holonet minutes are almost up, can you just give me the highlights of your plan?"
What if, and hear me out on this, there were a few HyperRelays in the Outer Rim or the edge of the Mid Rim, just not many or at least not enough to matter on a practical level. Thus, Obi-Wan was *just* within range of one of the very few further Relays sometimes but other times didn't happen to be?
Well, movie holonet rules are less confusing, wouldn't u make the commen eu = old canon mistake. While eu had to include main canon mostly acurate to b "a canon", that was still one way so the confusion is an eu exlusive thing. The main canon in itself has never established the details of hoolo net communcation, therefore it hasn't to care for them. Perhaps due to the greatness of the eu a canon n that must to include main canon realities in order to get into that tier, is the main reason that many eu fans seem unable to get it through their heads, that there was never a "decanonization" of the eu, only a discontinuation, when disney stopped to distribute 3rd party printworks, to avoid royalty 'obligations to authors n coverartists.
I love how those videos are getting longer and longer. Keep them coming dawg
Yeah if so, they’ll keep me coming
I was not expecting a super-cut of every communication. Bra-freaking-vo dude, that it a crazy amount of polish

Maybe it costs a lot, like an iPhone lol. And not everyone has that kinda cash, but some characters do and don’t have one 🤷🏻♂️

My guess? Banned.
Maybe they had network providers and it was a pain in the ass
I remember having the aotc book which mentioned that they used Gilette razors for the commlinks

Me : Today is kinda sucky :(
Saintmillion : uploads
Me: :)
I always wondered how a mere probe droid on hoth could communicate instantly with the executor

Respect to you for doing 11.30 onwards, so easy to not do, and even more easy to skip.
This channel is such a gem. Love listening to your excerpts from the SW universe.
I came upon your channel and was an instant fan but the lack of uploads disappointed me but these videos are ace keep going this is gold
Great insight on one of the often-overlooked aspects of a sci-fi... comms are power in war
Loving this series. I always keep my eye out for these videos. Thank you for great content!
Don’t think no one was going to notice that use of Katamari Damacy sound effect for the transmitter. God tier shit
Jaysus, The Holonet look so good back in 1977. How the Hell did George made that possible back then? It's impressive. O7

Best most complete explanation of SW communications ever. Loved it
Also shoutouts to those rascally 'Vong. Looking forward to the day that video drops!

Like making a new video!
And smuggling on the side.
Thanks for that, by the way!

Great video! So well edited and an unbelievable amount of research!

Thats communication breakdown was exellent
there was sooo much in this one, now I know why there was such a big delay between episodes xD

Love this guy. Building star wars lego to this.
Good video, keep it up :)
How much is the data plan for The Force? Seems pretty good.
The gadget videos are great!

I can imagine that after the fall of the Jedi, the emperor took all of their advanced technology and destroyed it or co-opted it into his own military
The DOOOOG has returned
"Subspace, and not the BDSM kind"
me: ... "Ooooh, oh wow. Yeah that's an upvote" lol
Are all those different dimensions all part of the same universe? Specifically the old eu universe? Just different sections of the universe?
It would have been hilarious if Darth Vader was like. "Umm, My Lord Sidious, my Holonet minutes are almost up, can you just give me the highlights of your plan?"
wait whats hyperspace again?
What if, and hear me out on this, there were a few HyperRelays in the Outer Rim or the edge of the Mid Rim, just not many or at least not enough to matter on a practical level. Thus, Obi-Wan was *just* within range of one of the very few further Relays sometimes but other times didn't happen to be?
I hope there is no *My Twi'lek Step-Mom* on there.
Thank you for using the Original NyubNub ending.. and not the WTF were they thinking ending of the Special editions :)
i like to believe the vong had their own biological hivemind holonet thingy made from yammosks.
Top tier content, let's all subscribe to the patreon!!!
Hello there.
Some of these sounds very familiar
Do people use the holonet to smuggle on the side?
The Force (tm)
