      The only thing I recommend that I would’ve done differently was use a stainless steel one.

    I used helicoil. Worked great.

    Wait, my knuckle on my JK isn't threaded thar thread starts on the caliper, I stripped the caliper bolt hole threads.

  • @michaeldvorak5556
    @michaeldvorak5556 11 месяцев назад +1

    If you go with the helicoil, use red loctite to seize it to the new threads you cut.

    • @sharpcarco

      Really wasn’t the point of the video but yes you would do that

  • @blackericdenice

    Replacement thread don’t come out if you install them correctly.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Год назад

      OK I have a lot of experience with this particular job on jeeps most people do not know how to do it correctly. This is 100% sure that this will work and it’s probably about 80% cheaper ….. but to each their own

  • @iamgravie2406
    @iamgravie2406 Год назад +1

    Why wouldnt you put it from the back of the knuckle those bends that you flattened are made to stop it from spinning. Great video just an idea though

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Год назад +1

      Those little splines are made of tin, and I did put it behind the knuckle , tin is not going to dig into cast iron . Nice thought though I understood where you were coming from.
      I made this video the summer before last I believe and it is still holding up. This was a close friend of mine‘s jeep and it’s rolling down the road just fine although I wish I would’ve used the stainless steel one.

      @@sharpcarco well I definitely see the reason for ol’ JB to come on board then. Stainless steel ones sound nice though I’ll let you know how it works out. Im in this jam right now with a dodge Dakota and trying to not buy a new bracket. I appreciate the work you do man

  • @johnlane3935
    @johnlane3935 2 года назад +4

    That is a bad idea...by time breaking at high speed would force the thread warm out...the best solution is to drill that hole and then tap it and you will have new threads but with bigger bolt to fit in ...but its safer

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 года назад

      So you’re telling me Heli coils are better than more threads? I don’t really see you how it could be better. But who knows🤷🏻‍♂️ i’ll respectively disagree with you.

    • @paulsmith6670
      @paulsmith6670 2 года назад +1

      Would a bigger bolt fit through the sleeve in the caliper? Not sure thicker would fit.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 года назад

      No because there’s only so big of hole in the caliper. Obviously you might be able to go a step up, I do however recommend using a galvanized piece instead of the regular steel that I used. Just my opinion obviously you can go spend the money and just get a whole new part or you could do with the other guy up there is saying put some Heli coils in there but the problem with the Heli coil solution is that there’s not enough threads to hold the bolt that’s just my opinion know be safe good luck

    I'd do it on my own car, not on a customer car, Ever. It's gotta be better than JB Weld and a stripped threads.

    • @godolforoderous3773
      @godolforoderous3773 Год назад

      I would have welded the surface as well.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Год назад

      Well at that time I did not know how to weld but I did know that it’s not easy to weld cast so I don’t know how well that would’ve held up but it would not hurt to put some JB Weld on it and hindsight be in 2020 I would use the stainless steel one

    We’re calling it urban engineering but a white guy is teaching it? Nevertheless it’s a good idea

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Год назад

      I can’t be from the urban jungle? Because I’m white…….
      I kind of felt like I came from the urban jungle. I grew up in a foster home and lived in motels when I was a kid, so yeah, I feel like I have some urban engineering in my blood. …
      Yes, I was quite proud of this repair. I wish I would not have made the video so damn long but back then I thought I had to drag things out because it was good. I didn’t realize that people wouldn’t watch it that long to find out what I did. …. I’m glad you did. I appreciate it.

      Nothing gets by you😂😂😂😂 …. I’m sure a guy that works on vehicles for the past 30 years would never have made a mistake of calling a 4.0 …. 6.0. 🤔 I wonder why he would do that…
      Thank you for proving my point. I appreciate it very much.
