    Buying paint for this DIY tip: check the 'returned' house paint. You will probably find a light brown (ivory, tan...). If they have a cheap pre-mixed black get it. If not, have the cheapest brand tinted a dark brown. Then, mix these to form a range of browns. Finally, after the base coat, the dry brushing can do most of the work for you. Use VERY little paint on the tips of the bristles of a cheap (even $ store) paint brush and brush with the intended grain direction AND plan that grain direction to be the same as the direction of the texture in the cardboard.

    I am really impressed that you went back and made a tutorial.. must have been so exhausting ....

      I tried to put it off, but I knew I promised I would do it...so I worked through the "pain" ;)

    I'm really glad you made this, tutorials are a lot of work to put together well! Particularly when it's not 100% the focus of your channel :). I will say a small evil part of me really hopes this video goes viral, purely so that you have to to pivot your RUclips content to primarily Crate tutorials. You would still have your loyal CH fans but they'd now be outnumbered 100 to 1 in the comments of videos by remarks such as "So when ARE you doing the crate from Indiana Jones?!" and "This is a box not a crate!! :C"

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  5 лет назад +1

      The "box not crate" people would be the majority huh? I dunno if I'd like that much ;)

      @@TheClosetHistorianHey, don't be bringing down the entire, admittedly sometimes slightly too passionate, crate tutorial community based on the vocal minority. Also I feel you're missing the positives! From a brand deal point of view it would be amazing! I mean, if LootCrate didn't want to work with you from day one i don't know who they would want to work with?!?!

    That wood grain effect tool is so cool. Makes it really realistic.
    Still looks like a heck of a lot of work. But it was worth it, in your case, I‘d say...they make a great background for your videos 👍

    Such hard work to create your set but it paid off and looks really good. I used to work on after-prom for years and just delighted in taking cardboard and styrofoam and turning it into sets. We worked for a good 2-3 months to get all our props together. We used a lot of house paint from the oops shelf at the home improvement stores. Thanks for sharing, excellent tutorial.

    This whole project reminds me of that work week I spent hot-gluing boxes together for five-hour stretches at a time. It wouldn't have been too bad but it was in a sub-basement with a glue gun that was too powerful for the archival glue. Museum work is ultra glam.

    If you use XPS foam instead of EPS, you’ll be able to use the texture tool on it as well as the box. XPS is also not brittle or crumbly.

    Awesome content. And for the record, I like you having a little informal content thrown in. It feels very "OG RUclips" from before everyone had camera phones... Aaaah the good ol' days lol

    Not going to lie, I watch most of your videos because I love your voice. You sound like one of those witty women from old films. Like Bette Davis or someone like that. You also manage to be really relatable. Anywho, love your videos! Hope you have a fabulous day!

    Thanks for the inspiration.

    Awesome! Omg I thought of you today bc I was at the thrift shop and found an old, red suitcase - very cute, very stylish. I know it’s not Indiana Jones brown but I thought if you do another background setup with a colorful theme you’d like it. It doesn’t matter anyway bc it was really big and I couldn’t send it in the mail!

    Great video Bianca! I love making props! I was wondering how you made this and loved the process. I think Eva foam could have worked for the panels too, much easier to work with and you can spray paint it :)

    Hi, I was wondering if you’d be interested in possibly selling 3 of these crates for a pirate theme? I’m not that good at crafts and can’t seem to find any to buy. The one that says “keep dry” on the crate is exactly the look I’m going for except either with no words printed on them or maybe like a pirate symbol or something on them instead.

    Great video. Just what I'm looking for in setting up my pirate themed porch display. Is there an advantage to painting the whole box before putting on the styrofoam strips? Seems like you could save a bit if time by attaching the strips then painting.

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  3 года назад +1

      It would be hard to use the wood graining tool around the Styrofoam as it's kinda fragile and easily chipped apart, and the tool itself doesn't work on the Styrofoam unfortunately, but if you hand paint the box too then it wouldn't be a problem!

    Me: Wtf is with all that labelling, just glue the whole thing together and paint it in one go!
    Also me: It’s Bianca. This is one human who absolutely understands “lazy for good” and “put your effort where it gets you the desired outcome”You know there’s a good reason…
    Later me: Uh… yup. That wood grain tool looks great at a distance, and that would absolutely not be an option if you did them in the order I was thinking. Cool!

    Almost 2 years too late, but I'm figuring out how to make covers for cheap flower pots... Maybe even a refurbished planter if I can figure out how to weatherproof it... Who am I kidding? I'm a plant murderer - but my imaginary garden is beautiful.
