You’d be surprised just how popular this song is in the UK, England especially. Despite our somewhat turbulent past, there seems to be a real love for Irish music here.
As much as I love the Planxty/Christy Moore versions of this song, it's actually Scottish in origin as far as I know.
This is a brilliant, modern version of an old song. Should be released all over Europe

kieth1871 this is an auld scottish ballad...look up jean redpath on you tube(the gypsy laddie) the whistling gypsy also comes from this sang.

@@Nikeeirelol. it's easy to take somebody else's sang and improve on it. when irish music first started in the late 50's they adopted the fun/raucous/nonsense style o scottish music adopting many sangs from scotland and england( a know because a was around then).bob dylan did the same with seven melodies from scottish sangs. rod stewart took the scottish sang "sailing" and improved on it. nothing to difficult about that.

My music teacher taught us this song in 1980 or so and I never forgot it. This is a cool version!
My music teacher taught us in the 70s. I think it was singalongaschools or something. All UK and Irish folk songs. Oh and one from Chile for some reason 😀
