Nice Mini. It looks like a fun car to work on. A-Series engines are very economical and nippy. Just watch out for oil leaks and keep the SU carb dashpot topped up with 3-in-1 oil.
My god ,you have bought a bit of a money pit there ,getting near to finish mine , but nowhere as bad as yours . Will be watching with interest . Best of luck with this , . What sort of timescale do you envisage with the rebuild ? 👍👍
Yes it’s looking a little bad at the moment lol. I’ll be cracking on with the boot area this weekend I’m hoping to have it on the road by the winter 🤞🏼
It makes a nice change to see a restoration on a Mini that's not a Cooper or a late Rover one. I used to have one! Way back in the golden era known as the '90s! It was a very late-production mk4 Mini. My Mini, A424GHF, was a 'luxury' Mayfair in metallic Opaline Green with the optional Exacton alloys (remember those super-wide 10-inchers?) I was very fond of it and still having fun in it, long after the bodywork and underside started to eat itself. I took it to 14 years old and 94000 miles when its last-ever MOT tester told me it won't be going anywhere.😢 I thought it lasted a very long time for a used-in all-weathers-daily Mini.
The mk4 Minis were the most properly-built out of all the Minis. Black was a very rare colour on Minis in the early '80s so I think your car is well worth restoring and making nice again.
Nice to see an old Mk4, It is a welcome change from all the Rovers on You tube :)
Seen that for sale on facebook marketplace near me
Hope you never paid more than 50 quid 😮
Good luck with that it looks fucked
