- Ive bought a new summer project! this is my £500 Classic mini Cooper SPI but unfortunately the whole rear end is missing. can I get it running for the first time. lots of work needed to restore this little Mini project, if you want to follow the build please consider subscribing!
Thank you for watching!
Thats some talent you have got there to be able to buy an unfinished “pile of parts” car and to be able to get it running. Most people wouldn’t know where to start. Well done 👌🏾
Thank you I really appreciate that! 🙏
The way you work on these cars reminds me of how we used to keep cars on the road back in the early 80's and 90's. Go down the scrap yard hunt for all your parts then get home and lie on the floor and use any means to put it together, Old school, Nice. Look forward to seeing this little bargain come together.
My first car was a Mini when I passed my test in 1991. That’s exactly how cars were run on a budget.
Such happy memories. Climbing up all the scrap cars, ankle deep in muddy oil.
Health and safety out the window but i got my engine mount.home to fit, all chip in for a fiver petrol and southend/canvey here we come
Man £500 is a steal for that! The SPI minis are great when they run right. Looks like you have a good one 👍
Thank you it was ridiculously cheap but I've definitely found a lot of issues along the way!!
@@cashmachinecars it’s a mini it’s always the way aha
Nice to see one of the old minis being restored - brilliant it started first time
that "Lion Growl" as it started ... Brilliant
Good luck with your restoration 👍
Bought a 1992 Racing Green SPi myself last month to restore so will be following this series closely! good luck with it mate!
Thanks, you too! Same colour?
@@cashmachinecars yes exact same colour!
Great video, love a mini😎
Last Of the true great mini a good restoration project worth it to do a concouse restoration
Good result can't believe it started straight away. Brilliant can't wait for next video thanks
Thank you 🙏
Looks like a great basis for restauration , hopefully it won't need too much welding , looking forward to future videos
Thank you John shouldn't be too hard to restore! See how bad it is once it's stripped down! 👍
Could have done with some rust converter first on the subframe.
Yes, that hammerite is nothing like it used to be.
Great little bargain up to now mate 👍🏻. Nice work on the tank with just a few basic tools. Really looking forward to seeing this coming back to life
Thanks 🙏
Stop waving your hands about in front of the camera!
Looking forward to the restoration.
excellant work, especially on your own. Looking forward to the resto
Thanks a lot! Should be a good one!! 👍
Great video and the engine sounds nice sounds looking forward to seeing the restoration
Thanks billy, should be a good one!
Finally watching all your videos paid off and you got a decent car! Wish I could find Minis for £500 but I did sell my 78 pickup for £50 in a time nobody wanted them anymore :)
Thank you! What a shame the pick ups are worth a fortune now!
Great video:) I buzz when the the cars start up :)
Thank you! 🙏
Result for £500 You take the risk well done. Heads up for Just classic minis. You will do well on this one. Always a little further, and you wont go wrong
Thank you, should be well worth a full restoration I think! 👍
Great deal ……best of luck😎👌🏽
Thanks Colin 👍
Looking forward to seeing this little beauty getting restored
Four wheels 👍🏻💨💨💨
Haha thank you Andy!
Most people seem terrified of welding petrol tanks but if you take precautions it's OK. I run an extra hose from the MIG gas bottle to fill the tank with CO2 before I start.
100% result on this one, so far. Might find the rust needs a little more than the surface suggest but it’s a Mini - comes with the territory. Good thing is they are so easy to dismantle to get at whatever you need to, though. Speedy Spares in Hove used to be my go to place for Mini parts when I was in the UK but that was years ago and probably more specialist places around now. I often wonder about the noise etc around the workshops there - it’s a pretty up-market housing location right behind you. Looking forward to the rest of this series. 👍🏻
Thanks yea I'll strip the rusty areas back and see how bad they really are! I think speedy spares might have gone now, I used to go there all the time to get bits for my allegro! Yea it is I haven't had a noise complaint yet fortunately 🤞 thanks should be a good one!! 👍
"...apart from the massive exhaust leak..." 😂
Very lucky guy you..❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
500 pounds? I'd buy it just to have somewhere to hide after my wife gets mad about me spending another 500 on another project. Cheers, good luck.
Hahaha 🤣🤣 I know the feeling 😬
that's a steal at £500, not many for that price! I've just bought a 1970 classic mini that is way more rotten than this with a 1275cc engine for £1400, given mine is tax and MOT exempt. Enjoy restoring, they are great little cars!
Was very cheap but then again I did have to shell out a few hundred pounds just to get it mobile! Still a bargain tho! Oh wow nice work 👍 are you restoring it!
@@cashmachinecars yeah, when I bought it the motor won't turn fully, got it free and got it running so over the moon with it, currently welding panels in, needs a good few bits doing and definitely a new front end in time, paint on it isn't all that great either but I'm quite liking the tatty look for now 😂
Gota love the old minis all ways wanted one but cant fit in them being super tall 🤣
You can get brackets that move the seat position really far back if you very fancy getting one 👍
@@cashmachinecars I might look into that 👍
@@bazzaboom1616 I'm 6'2" - I fit in them just fine - its getting in/out that is the pain 😆
Hi, great video! Do you have details for "Just Classic Minis"? Looking for a project myself... Cheers.
thank you, look him up on facebook his name is Paul Stuart, he is based in essex and has everything you could need. Thanks
you could try and make the mud guards removable with locating holes and a bit of steel to slot into the hole for the trailer .)
Spot on :)
That's a great idea! Thank you,
Shes not too bad , result 👍
Amazing it started, looking forward to this. Subscribed. Looking for a classic mini myself. Where did you find such a bargain if you don't mind me asking. Thanks
Thank you! I've just got a search alert for 'project mini' on Facebook and every now. And then you see some bargains come up!
Hi mate
Great work any chance of a link to the place in Essex for mini spares been looking for a while for odd bits for my project mini. Cheers and keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next video
Love it, you gonna respray it like the last one you did?
Yea definitely! Gonna keep it British racing green as well 👍
@@cashmachinecars good choice. Great colour for an 90s cooper 👌
Looking forward to this project being a mini owner. Do you have a link/contact you could provide for 'just classic minis'?
Thank you, the guys name is Paul Stuart on Facebook struggling to see if he has a business page at all sorry
Awesome!
What a steal
Dont be fooled by the seemingly 'not too bad' appearance, minis do rot and do rot badly, once you start digging, you are in to new floor plans, sills, steps, a panels, wings, rear quarters etc and not mention 30 years of someone else repairs too, good luck, hope you have deep pockets
Thanks, I've restored a few of them and your right they do love to rot! But the parts are cheap and readily available so should be fairly easy to restore
Are actually going to finish this one? What's happened to the T5 build and XC90?
Don't lower the guards over the wheels, just repurpose them so they are detachable 👍
I wonder how many of the modern Minis would start so readily, at 32 years old.
I wonder if there will even be any around in 32 years haha 😂
Engine sounds healthy, just move it to your work its not far at least you will know if the gear Box works
Thanks I'm going to attach the handbrake cable first maybe just in case 😂
With a complete subframe assembly and fully running most enthusiasts would probably offer you closer to 2grand without doing anything else..
Probably would be but even more maybe with an MOT and a fresh paint job! 😉
That engine sounds really sweet. (I would feel guilty just paying £500 for it).. I’d give them a bit more money buddy…
Haha I gave him his asking price 😬 didn't even make an offer
That’s not actually that bad.
Helps having spares dotted about.
What mini doesn’t have a wet floor?
Ours leaked around the air vents inside the front wheel arches.
Thank you! It definitely does I've got a lot of mini spares luckily 👍 AHH I bet this one probably does too!
Its not a mini if the A panel isn’t rusted, inspiring me to get in the shed and get mine (1.3i Sprite) running again
You should Jeff! Would it take much to get it up and running?
@@cashmachinecars brakes, paintwork and minimal rust issues, biggest unknown is the engine but was working when it went into storage by the original owner that I bought it from, however my VW T25 would get jealous if I sorted the mini first!
Mini metro spares, Northfield, Birmingham. I got a spi fuel tank of him £80 and gave him my old.
Oh really! That's a bargain! Thank for letting me know 👍
Mate I've messaged you on Facebook
Bargain mini for £500 nice one mate
Thank you 👍
Reminds me of a time waaay back in the seventies when a cheap running Mini was only a couple of hundred pounds. I really wish I had kept the five that I owned. I'd be rich, especially as one was a 1275GT. Oh well. . .
I've always wanted a clubman 1275gt! Thanks
Thatll be an SPI not an MPI, the MPI's didnt come out until 1996.
Bit of a shocker, car £500, new fuel tank £300.
500 quid and it's still got a floor in you could spend 10k on getting that mini right and you could double your money ,500 is a steal its been a long while since you get a mini for 500
Thank you I'll start stripping it down in the next one 🤞it isn't too bad!
Dont weld on RUclips, . (Push the weld, so you can see what you're doing, not dragging it.)
Just remember, if you crash, will the car, respond as designed?.
I bought a 3 year old mini in the 1970’s that was falling apart from rust. They were very dangerous as I found out when the bonnet opened up at over 60 mph. Got out to close it again and found the cross bracing and bonnet catch all in p,ace. The bonnet skin had just separated totally. Somewhat dodgy build quality at best.
£500 ? How many days did you have to spend on your knees for thst price 😂
😂
ill buy it off you for 2,500?
Hmm not bad, I'll have a think 😂
@@cashmachinecars I am a serious buyer - i have always wanted this colour with the union jack - please can i be first in line to offer to purchase once work is done. Are you looking for between 3-5k once you have finished your fixes?
I had my fingers crossed 🤞🏻 but I didn't hold up much hope. But wow, that is a result, fell. Such a bargain. I am watching a 198p clubman on ebay. The only thing that puts me off is they want 4 and a half for it. But we will see
Thank you! Nice I've always wanted a clubman! 4 and a half isn't too bad what condition is it in?
@cashmachinecars it does need quite a lot of work to be fair. Both doors need replacing. Both sills, front end, boot lid. Possibly on a few patches in the boot floor and floor pan. The engine apparently did turn by hand but I think a strip down and new gaskets etc wouldn't hurt. Plus then a respray. As it should be yellow and has been painted maroon. Apart from thatnit is golden ✨️ 😆
@ £500 it`s a bargain.
