Yeah Khabib really gave Connor a proper beat down that fight. I don't like that he finished it with a obvious face/neck crank though... I honestly never liked McGregor before I saw that fight, but I have a new found respect for him after seeing how much damage he withstood and still never backed down. Yeah Khabib smashed him, but Connor took it which was more amazing in my eyes.
Hi guys long time wrestler judoka and BJJ student. 30 years grappling about 400 mid to high level competitive matches.
I have looked a lot of videos like this where individuals from various grappling backgrounds are breaking down khabibs finish of McGregor.
This is the first time that I am responding to any of the videos that I've seen because I think that you guys would actually read it. And I genuinely believe that you guys might take my food for thought as a grain of salt and process the finish the way I see it.
So first let's look at what you are demonstrating in the video.
You are showing the Gable grip, forearm down the back, opponent's chin on the inside of your elbow, with the emphasis and intent to create a tight lock along the jaw and rotate the head to create pressure on the neck creating the tap.
Now let me describe to you what I see with khabibs finish of McGregor.
Khabib establishes the Gable grip, forearm down the back, opponent's chin on the inside of the elbow, (this is where khabib is different) khabibs left arm and Gable grip clamps down as though he has to choke under the chin creating squeeze to the left and khabib's head and body shifts to McGregor's left shoulder, khabibs right arm and right Leticia dorsal muscle flexes as though it could be a squeezing his right arm like a standard rear naked choke. (McGregor's head is turned to the right but not from the control it is because it's chin is on the inside of the right elbow)
To me it looks like khabib squeezed so violently tight. I have rolled with a few guys that have that mythic squeeze. It feels like your heart is going to explode out of your forehead.
Again please take all this as food for thought I hope you guys understand what I wrote and appreciate my ideas.
