      That's not just anybody...that's Rener Gracie, son of Rorion Gracie, who is the brother of GOAT RIckson Gracie, who's father and uncle engineered, created and are responsible, and who invented BJJ formerly called Gracie Jiu-Jistsu and mostly responsible for bringing UFC to America. But, yeah...Rener is enthusiastic for sure. All legends.

      @ I hear ya but that is Bens style of fighting, the only thing he's good at is wrestling. That Masvidal Maia fight, with the scoring nowadays Masvidal woulda took that W defo cause Maia just had his back doing nothing.

      @@brere45678 nope. Masvidal chose to strike. Ben actually grappled voluntarily. Much more vulnerable.
      But yes, Masvidal's RNC defense was superior.

      rener is the man. he used to do gracie breakdowns after most ufc events but theyve died down a little.... but when rener does a video its the best resource to understand interesting mma grappling exchanges.

    Awesome energy! Thank you for such a great breakdown of the fight. I wrestled in both high school and college and haven't been exposed to other styles of fighting. You're explanation relay made it clear of what both men were thinking for stratagy.

      Seriously, I wonder how each of these outstanding grapplers felt like to each other. Askren was fuckin skilled in that fight, takedowns at will, escaping each sub and ending up in superior position. Wonder if Damien was shocked

      There were about 5-6 attempts from Ben where Maia just pushed him away. I was more impressed by Maia being able to reverse every takedown of Bens and get in mount.

      @@MichaelP-ke1tm man you guys just hate on ben, it's like you dont respect him and wrestling as a martial art. He won several scramble with maia, and yes took him down at will. Watch the gracie breakdown. Gameplan was to wear on him for 4 minutes, make him defend takedowns, clinch and pressure. Last minute, take him down. He did this to perfection first two rounds, but took him down too early in 3rd, and maia made him pay

    Thanks for the Renergy so soon after the match. A fantastic breakdown! Askren fan since 2005, but a bjj devotee since 2018 because of your videos. Wrestling and bjj are siblings and should be taught in the same schools as a single art.

    I dont know much about ground fighting and this is a great explenations of all the transitions and attempts that were in that fight. In the fight it went so quick and I was really forward looking forward to this fight. Maia is a legend.

    Really good breakdown. Also no disrespect, but thats why I changed from gi to no gi grappling. I love the techniques used and if someone has a jacket or thick collar shirt many techniques still transfer, but mostly where I live its too hot and its regular shirts 9 months. So we changed our class uniforms and began focusing on submissions not needing a gi. Good to see yall promoting a seminar focusing on this. Hope it went well!

    That "leg entanglement" in 3:30 is called Single Leg X-guard sweep.

      Moves are named to be able to reference them without having to show it. So calling it in a really specific name when you're actually showing it is unnecessary for both parties to be able to understand each other

    Great breakdown. Looks like Rener missed the use of the armpit to secure the choking arm. With the glove on, it gives as much leverage as the crook of the elbow usually does. Also vital was Maia's head locking Ben's head into place.

      Yea jujistu is good for body awareness and to keep you sharp for when the season starts up again. Make sure the school you go to does stand up tho, alot schools dont work on takedowns
