Proud to call these guys my favorite band. This song has been the comforting soundtrack of many sleepless nights, lost loves and years of hopelessness... You may feel like you're not going to make it, yet somehow life can always go on. Thank you for reminding me that, Ray. :)
Ray is the most underrated performer/songwriter of all time...I was in awe to see him live last December and he's still just as good...45 years later. How many rockers can you truly say that about?
Life does go on. I am 60 years worth of testament to that because life IS worth living. It ALWAYS gets better no matter what happens to you. You just have to hang in there. Thank you Kinks. For reminding us. And for reminding us to have a sense of humor about life. (Love the guitar strap Ray.)
This performance of Dave had great guitar tones. He loved the creamy sounds he got out of that gold top Les Paul. Stormy Weather in this performance has some beautiful fills and break from Dave. So delicate. Acoustic or electric, Dave gave us such variety. He was always searching for new sounds. His rhythm guitar playing was also wonderful. Ray mentioned their sound was unique because Dave’s harmony singing was an octave above Ray’s. The girl singers did a good job at this show too.
Pretty hard to stay all the way down after listening to this. I've used this song more than once to climb out of very deep holes. So when I say I believe in the healing power of music in general and rock-n-roll music in particular, I've got first hand experience. Just being here this evening to type this is proof. When they put the boot in at 3:59, try to not get goosebumps. I love this song. Thanks fellows
Yes; I hear you brother'! Sometimes life can be a hard road! First saw the KINKS; mid-60s at the Whisky a GoGo on Sunset.. have always been a fan of Ray's lyrics and writing style. Welcome to the KINKDOM !! R.I.P. John Gosling rwp
Love the liberties they take with this performance. The dialogues between R and D's guitar playing; between soft and quiet; between full ensemble and sparse, near-spoken-word narration. It's such a musically rich five minutes and none of it feels forced!
Great Dave solo and one of my all-time favorite Kinks lyrics: And one day when you are gone You know that life will still go on No one will care if you've good, bad, right, or wrong Life will still go on That is so great. Who else would sing that?
Dave has such versatility in his playing. Straight up rock, rockabilly, funk licks, finger pickin, he did it all. The Kinks were a great band. I have always referred to them as the British Grateful Dead.
I do not have the words of appreciation that could convey the happiness Ray and Dave have brought to my life.. We all learned something. It has been one heck of a ride....
The Kinks live was the second greatest rockn'roll show of my youth. (Yes In The Round is sui generis.) Ray Davies has brought more joy into this world than all the saints combined, who probably weren't that saintly to begin with. You gotta live life. Just carry on. Nobody's gonna live your life for you. I keep Misfits inside my head. I listen to it on the subway. Everyone else has headphones. I have the Kinks. I still remember the lyrics, word for word, decades later.
So I am 65 and last week after the loss of my brother I thought I might start making plans for when life doesn't go on. I am writing all my requests, bequests ,etc on my laptop and had chose this as the first song for my funeral, so a week later it pops up as a recommendation on you tube. Thanks goggle for snooping thru my laptop and making me realize I will keep other things off of it.
I honestly believe Google hired all the peeping Toms (voyeurs) like when the FBI hired all the hackers. And you know I barely hear about peeping Toms in the news anymore. But I bet they don't get that adrenaline rush as they did whilst peeping in windows.
Love the beautiful, melodic intro, as well as Dave's impeccable guitar during the bridge! Thanks for another great post (tho I could do without the backup singers always in the foreground)
Only 3 dislikes out of 74,968 views as of 2/5/13. Nothing left to be said. Life goes on. The time when sweat and soul went into the music. Appreciate what you got. Life will hit you when you least expect it.
My favorite part of Dave Davies is he just low key wails in the background of Kinks songs. Pro tip... Always turn up a Kinks song as it fades out and you'll catch some amazing guitar licks
Wow amazing. This transported me back to my junior year in high school. Love the Kinks and love the floosies singing backup. Ray Davies ruled back in these days.
I would think they recall me ... I recall them ... for decades in decaandces in small halls... My most favorites...and the lyrics count... I wish them well and would love to meet again the survivors...
I really like this song, it kinda makes you all warm inside. And I just can't help but falling in love with this Ray Davies. He sure is one of the best songwritters ifn't even the best.
Really a perfect clip.. from taking the silly glasses off to mention of if you don't know it well then learn it… Life will hit you when you least expect it people !!!! In the meantime share some love WTH :))))
Lyrics A friend of mine just had a real bad time. You see, his life was shattered and he lost his mind. It happens every day. So appreciate what you got Before it's taken away. Life will hit you When you're unprepared, So be grateful and take all That you can while you're there. Get that frown off your head, 'Cause you're a long time dead. Life goes on and on and on. Life goes on and on and on. No use runnin' 'round lookin' scared, Life could get you when you're unaware. One day it's gonna come, so you better accept it. Life will hit you when you least expect it. And one day when you are gone, You know that life will still go on. But no one'll care if you've been good, bad, right or wrong. Life will still go on. My bank went broke and my well ran dry. It was almost enough to contemplate suicide. I turned on the gas, but I soon realized I hadn't settled my bill so they cut off my supply. No matter how I try, it seems I'm too young to die. Life goes on and on and on. Somehow the people fight back, even the future looks black. Life goes on and on and on. Life goes on and on and on.
Dave’s been a great guitarist from way back when. Listen to”All the Day and ALL of the Night “ particularly his surgical ly beautiful break near the end!
I feel like from 1977-1984 really was the kinks greatest period, text book rock n roll. That period for them really let Dave show how good of a player is. Been one of my favorite bands since I was little and I’m 16 now I don’t think I’ve met anyone my age who knows the kinks career in depth like I do
"It's how people fight back... when the future is black" I am channeling this and sending it to all people in this bleak time. Wishing for a better tomorrow. (Dec. 1, 2020)

The Kinks even kept the Beatles on their toes. I can't imagine rock & roll without the Kinks!
I was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago. This song not only gave me prospective but also helped me through some rough times.
hope you are doing well now
This is a band that has never been given their due. So many truly amazing songs.
why, they have always been recognized as on of the top four in the UK...
@@gabrielthissen3280 right! They're in rock and roll hall of fame. I have them tied for 3rd with the stones and the who as far as British bands
Yeah Oasis sucks. Meanwhile this band rocks the universal spiritual dimension of interstellar magnitude and nobody notices.
Couldn’t agree more
No issue with Oasis mind Gallagher brothers love the Kinks
The Kinks are the chameleon of music. So many styles, ideas, genres! And all of them have that signature Davies touch.

Me, 💯%🥰👍🙏💟🛐🕉️
One of the best ever. Have always loved the Kinks.
Me too!❤
The Old Grey Whistle test videos are the best...bands in their prime, playing live- it just doesn't get any better.
This song and reading these comments is literally bringing tears to my eyes. Thank you Kinks!
It doesn’t ALWAYS get better...for many it gets a lot worse! Not for me of course....
When you’re going through hell, keep on going!
What an amazing guitar player Dave is.
Exactly.
Incredible tone

serious tone.
Same thing for me, great lifter of the spirits. This and anything off "Low Budget". Damn they are great.

This is just awesome. Thank you Raymond Davies 🙌🏻
Wow, great guitar playing by Dave Davies. Thanks for sharing.
ONE OF THE BEST BANDS EVER!

Bizarre comparison. They are absolutely nothing like the Dead. Which is a good thing.

Definitely. The 'Dead' were a jam band, The Kinks had songs.
I do not have the words of appreciation that could convey the happiness Ray and Dave have brought to my life.. We all learned something. It has been one heck of a ride....
A friend once described the Kinks as the discerning music lover's Beatles. Feels right to me, no disrespect intended towards the Beatles.
Some of Dave's best work was in the 70's...especially in the tone department. This is great proof!

An excellent example of Ray's mastery of songwriting. The Kinks are easily the most underrated band in history.
Not "underrated". One of the most successful and respected of the '60s. Sold millions of singles and albums.
@@stevenospam4216 A massive band. Hard to be MORE rated.
Spectacular! Dave on fire, obviously😊 He seems to re-create the song, live, by his fabulous inspiration.
as someone who appreciates the Kinks, this is my first hearing of this song. Pretty damn good.
Absolutely agree!!
"Sleepwalker" is one of their very best albums... all songs are good. !

What a song!
Dave's playing is perfect here. Fluid, economic, toneful... damn.
So f'ing good. So untouchable. Sleepwalker is such a gem of an LP.
this song kicks ass ! outstanding lyrics

I love, love, love this song, and the KINKS forever!
The Kinks were so great live!
Dave Davies was such a great guitarist. Surprised his name isn't mentioned more often in discussions or ranking of rock guitarists.
he's still alive!
One of my favorite guitar players , never hit a bad note always played for the song not his ego
My favorite part of Dave Davies is he just low key wails in the background of Kinks songs.

I agree! There is some consolation in the fact Rolling Stone put him in their top 100 guitarists of all time list, although he should have been higher

Dave's work at 2:54 might be the greatest, most simple little solo in the history in music. Just fantastic.
Oh Dave Davies can lay some fucking pipe, don't get it twisted.
stosh21 You are spot on DAV's guitar playing is something else 🐒
Those p90 pickups have the sound.
Dave recently condfided to me that this Gibson Les Paul Gold Top was "the nicest guitar" he ever owned.
stosh21 I agree
Just discovered the kinks ... Love it
It will be like an onion with all the layers you will enjoy.

Welcome. Turn it up!
Mussel Hillbillies is a must listen. The whole album.

The Kinks staying relevant in the era of punk and disco, by doing what they always did- play whatever type of music they damn well felt like.
i lived those times back then ,...and the Kinks then were respected as "More" relevant ,..than disco or punk or metal or anything ,..

God Bless the Kinks
Great Band. I always loved their sound. I saw them on February 23, 1979 at Bailey Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.
This show's finally been released on the new cd/dvd combo. 5 cds and a double length dvd full of bbc shows.
God save the Kinks! And I'm an American! Love this song.
wicked dave part!!!!!!!!!
Isn't Ray wonderful...as a songwriter he can address such serious subjects in a sensitive yet humorous manner. Plus he's simply gorgeous
Daves playing here is so nailed to the song and then the lyrics by the wordsmith himself Ray.....mega tune
lovely song
"if you don't know it, learn it!" such a boss :D
2020 ,..sadly ,...too many lives didn't go on ,.... : (
But many many more did .
One of the truly exceptional bands to emerge with the British Invasion...and now they are old men.
they can still rock ,..even at like 89
My bank went broke and my well ran dry.
It was almost enough to contemplate suicide.

I hadn't settled my bill so they cut off my supply.
This is the song I always point people to for the brilliance of Ray Davies' writing
Yea, Life does go on...
Ray and I share a birthday: June 21st✌️
Imagine any of their rock peers singing about hardship of the gas getting shut off because they didn't pay the bill.
A great song from one of the three best British Invasion bands (Beatles, Who, and KINKS!)!
Please reissue the CDs of “Misfits” and “Sleepwalker” as they have become hard to find in Japan.😞
Masterpiece!!
One of many Kinks tune that is vastly underrated. Totally hits home with me.
they do this song relley good live
