If you are not a native English speaker but you want to sound like one of them, relax! It takes time and it is a matter of exposure. Travelling, studying in a English facility like high school or college. Working abroad etc. Let it happen slowly and naturally, many times I tried to imitate them, it works but it seems like you're acting. When we are stressed, our accent tends to be thicker because our emotions are "stored" in our native language. It takes time but it is possible. One step at the time people!

There is actually a simple explanation why the "d" at the end of "taped" sounds like a "t". There are 3 different cases:
1. if the last sound of the verb has an unvoiced consonant, the d in "ed" will be pronounced as a "t": tape => p = unvoiced => "tapT"
2. if the last sound of the verb has a voiced consonant, the d in "ed" will be pronounced as a "d": love => v = voiced => "lovD"
3. if the last sound of the verb has a "d" or a "t", the d in "ed" will be pronounced as a "d" and the e in "ed" as an i, like in "sit": land => d => "landid"

As an American, I'm watching this out of curiosity. Since I grew up in this accent and language, I don't think of things that non-Americans struggle to comprehend, and I find that fascinating. Like how she mentioned that the 'd' on the end of the word "taped" sounds like a 't' ... I never thought that, even though I say words like that all the time obviously. It's just really neat to see things from a totally different perspective. One that's not my own.
As an American watching this it's really interesting analyzing my own accent. I didn't realize a lot of these things. Hm.

Finally I have seen a practical help to pronunciations; less of the theories that leaves one with only little progress. I haven't seen any difference between the way you pronounce and the Canadian accent. So, I have found what I have been looking for. I will also try not to be distracted by your beautiful looks. i always thought us americans had a boring accent with nothing special about it but this makes me realize all the weird stuff we do when we speak, and i love how the answer to a lot of "why" type questions is "just because american" haha

Thank you! I find the standard American accent one of the hardest to pick up as a Westcountry English speaker. It really helped when you explained that the rhotic 'r' tongue placement is cupped and further forward towards the teeth. My biggest trouble was always overpronouncing it, and I never realised that it's because they're different in my accent and yours. (The Cornish 'r' puts your tongue way back in your mouth.) That was really helpful and made my American accent sound much more natural!

I'm from Singapore. I'm actually mixed so I speak quite a lot of languages. Sometimes how I pronounce an English word is quite hard for me. I have a singapore accent which many people called them singlish and I really don't wanna speak in that accent any more and Idc what people in Singapore gonna say about my accent after I learn all this. I really hope I could achieve that " American accent".

It's my personal hell😅 struggling with it for a month now, my brain doesn't understand the process!(( Thank you for an explanation of the sounds that it contains. the "brushing behind the teeth" thing is the "alveolar ridge" LOL! I learned that from watching videos on the Sounds American Channel here on RUclips, something for you to check out! You're rockstar already, but I've seen a few folks doing pronunciation drills on here and no one seems to know what to call the "roof of your mouth, behind the teeth" area...! Just thought I'd share useful info!
